Finally A Rub Of The Green For Leeds

Leeds United 2 Preston North End 1

Having been beaten at Deepdale earlier in the season Leeds were on a mission to down The Lilywhites but after only 65 seconds found themselves a goal down. Once again it was shocking defending that put Preston ahead. Liam Lindsay's headed back across the 18-yard box following a corner with his effort falling to Liam Millar. He actually scuffed his low cross into the six-yard area but fortunately for him their top scorer Will Keane was on hand to rifle home his fifth goal in six games. Talk about silencing the Elland Road crowd but five minutes later their agony changed to joyous celebrations.

Crysencio Summerville who is having a monumental season played in Junior Firpo (who is also having a new lease of life following injury) and his cross to the back post was headed in by Dan James. A whirlwind start… Read more

Bluebirds Have No Answer To Rampant Whites

Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 3

Leeds travelled to Ninian Park or the Cardiff City Stadium as it's now called to a ground that has always been a banana skin for The Whites but on this occasion they came up trumps. The visitors came out of the traps flying and took a deserved if somewhat lucky lead on thirteen minutes. Crysencio Summerville fired in a low cross which hit the sliding Patrick Bamford, bounced off Junior Firpo and back to Bamford who toe poked home while still on the ground. A scruffy goal like this was what Bamford needed for his confidence.

Jak Alnwick in the Cardiff goal was keeping the home side in it but was beaten again on thirty one minutes.Cardiff's Manolis Siopis lost possession to Glen Kamara who set up Summerville whos's shot was saved by Alnwick but thankfully Dan James was in the right place to… Read more

Great Start To The New Year

Leeds United 3 Birmingham City 0

Leeds boss Daniel Farke finally changed his starting X1 by making five changes with Kristoffer Klaesson handed his first start in goal after Karl Darlow who was deputising for the suspended Meslier dislocated a thumb. He was playing his first Leeds game at any level since an under-21s appearance last February so this was a huge day for the Norwegian. However he came through the game without much fuss as a clinical home side put The Blues to the sword and following the game their manager Wayne Rooney the ex Man United great got the sack.

Patrick Bamford was recalled in place of Joel Piroe while James, Glen Kamara and Archie Gray were also brought into the starting team. On 34 minutes Bamford proved his worth when heading home a brilliant cross from Dan James and a minute into added first half injury time… Read more

Happy New Year To All Ennislusc Members

With the passing of another year I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Ennislusc members, their families and friends sincere Good Wishes, Health and Happiness for 2024.

On the football front the last year for Leeds saw what we have become accustomed to at Elland Road, turbulent times. Managers changes, relegation from The Premiership, players leaving on loan following same as written into their contracts and of course The 49ers NFL franchise has taken control of the club. A poor start to the 23/24 season changed in late October but once again at Christmas we lost two games in a row ( both away) to drop down the table.

Despite all the doom and gloom we are now 4th in The Championship and one would hope that at the end of the season we will at least be in the play off places as the promotion spots… Read more

Dire Away Form Continues

West Bromwich Albion 1 Leeds United 0

It has been a disastrous December for Leeds as they have now won only one of their last five league games and in truth didn't deserve much from today's game. Once again the defence didn't cover themselves in glory and Darlow startred in goal for the suspended Meslier. Leeds have now dropped to 4th in the table with Southampton now five points ahead in 3rd place.

The Baggies who beat Norwich on St Stephen's Day were well up for the game with their biggest crowd of the season at the game. WBA had the best player on the field in Jed Wallace and he was causing all sorts of problems for the visitors. The home side could have opened the scoring when a corner from ex Leeds player Alex Mowatt was missed completely by Darlow and Spence on the line cleared a volley… Read more

Shocking Meslier Sees Red

Preston North End 2 Leeds United 1

Following on from their best performance of the season at home to Ipswich, Leeds poor away form came back to haunt them as The Lilywhites won a feisty affair at Deepdale. In a dour first half Liam Millar who caused Leeds bother on the left wing all day came closest to opening the scoring.

The game changed dramatically eight minutes into the second half when Meslier was red-carded. After catch a cross Meslier squared up to Ben Whiteman as they went head to head in much ado about nothing. Meslier was then shoved by Milutin Osmajic and he retaliated by shoving the forward in the face. Inevitably he fell to the ground as if getting a righ hook fro Tyson Fury and proceeded to roll around the ground in supposed agony. The referee was left with no option but to send Meslier off… Read more

Leeds Blow A Huge Opportunity

Leeds United 1 Coventry City 1

With Ipswich dropping points earlier in the day this was a massive opportunity for Leeds to close the gap on them. However despite numerous chances and huge possession stats unfortunately our old failing of not putting the ball in the net came back to haunt us once again. The Whites dominated the early stages with Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe both testing Brad Collins in the Coventry goal. Welsh International Dan James's cross on twenty minutes was begging to be toe poked home but Rutter's sliding in couldn't make contact.

Rutter had a great opportunity to put Leeds ahead just before the break but he dragged his effort wide. On 58 minutes Rutter made amends with a beautiful through ball which Summerville chipped over the advancing Sky Blues keeper Brad Collins. One would have thought Leeds would drive on from here but eight minutes… Read more

The Cats Get The Cream

Sunderland 1 Leeds United 0

The wheels came off the wagon at The Stadium Of Light tonight as a deserved home side took the three points on off. Tactically their interim manager Mike Dodds game plan worked to perfection as they kept the Leeds forwards very quite. Both goalkeepers made some huge save with Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson tipping over Crysencio Summerville's brilliant free-kick. At the other end while Meslier clawed away a goal-bound Jenson Seelt header with a full-stretch save.

The deadlock was broken on 78 minutes when Jobe Bellingham headed past Meslier after Archie Gray had played him on side. Joel Piroe nearly grabbed Leeds a point but Trai Hume's goal line clearance saved the day for The Black Cats. Leeds can have few complaints as it was a below par performance from them against a very determined home side who deserved the win.

Six Out Of Seven For Leeds

Blackburn Rovers 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds travelled to Ewood Park full of confidence and secured their six win in seven in The Championship to keep the pressure on the top two. It was in form Welsh International Dan James who put Leeds ahead on 27 minutes with his third goal in his last three games. It was a forgettable first 45 minutes but that didn't concern the Leeds faithful with there team ahead.

On 75 minutes Leeds made sure of the three points when Crysencio Summerville finished brilliantly by chipping the keeper. This was his 9th goal of the season and he certainly will unfortunately be in demand when the transfer period opens shortly. Meslier make a stunning save from substitute Arnor Sigurdsson andJake Garrett went down in the box looking for a penalty as he tussled with Ethan Ampadu but his pleas were ignored by the referee. Leeds Don't Do Easy

Leeds United 3 Middlesbrough 2

Well it goes without saying that the Ennislusc crew at Elland Road on Saturday witnessed a whirlwind start to the game and were certainly entertained along with being nervous for the full ninety plus minutes. After just three minutes Latte Lath scored when he cut inside Archie Gray and shot into the roof of the net past a very surprised Illan Meslier. However two minutes later Leeds were level when Dan James rose above Paddy McNair to head in Sam Byram's cross. Then in a crazy first seven minutes Leeds took the lead when
Summerville beat Dijksteel to head home Archie Gray's cross.

Latte Lath wasted chances to bring Boro level when firing over from eight yards while Rutter wasted an equally great chance when one on one with Boro keeper Dieng. On 38 minutes Leeds were awarded a penalty when Rutter was tripped in the… Read more

Ennislusc Off To Elland Road For Boro Game

Once again Ennislusc will be well represented at Elland Road today when Leeds take on Middlesbrough in our annual December trip. In times past it was a lot easier purchase tickets for games but since our time in The Premiership things have tightened up and Leeds Membership is now a priority to secure tickets. Despite these hurdles our members continue to secure tickets and since our formation in 2001 Ennislusc had been represented each year at Elland Road be it in groups or members travelling on their own or with family members.

Back On Track

Leeds United 3 Swansea City 1

Interestingly Daniel Farke selected three ex-Swansea players in his starting XI in Joe Rodon, James and Piroe so it was guaranteed that they would get a hostile reception from the away fans and so it proved. However after one minute The Swans silenced the home crowd when Jamie Paterson chipped over Meslier to give the visitors a shock lead. Three minutes later the home side were level when Piroe slotted home against his former club and this certainly lifted the home supporters in the 34,905 crowd.

In the third minute of injury time Georginio Rutter put Leeds back in front with a brilliant finish following Ethan Ampadu's long through ball and this certainly eased the tension around Elland Road. On the hour mark Welsh International Dan James made amends after missing an easier chance minutes earlier when finishing with power from close range to… Read more

The Millers Put A Stop To Our Gallop

Rotherham United O Leeds United

Leeds missed a glorious chance to win their seventh Championship game in eight and close the gap at the top to Ipswich and Leicester when they were held to a draw by The Millers. This was a game the visitors should have won and they have only themselves to blame for the defeat. And what a start they got off to after just six minutes. Crysencio Summerville cut in from the left to curl a brilliant shot into the bottom corner and despite dominating matters couldn't add a second.

And sure enough in first half stoppage time the inevitable happened. Miller's midfielder Hakeem Odoffin found the bottom corner from 12 yards after the ball fell to him in the penalty area from a deflection off Joe Rodon. Leeds thought they had won it in the 90th minute but Jaidon Anthony's close-range finish was ruled out for… Read more

Leeds Make Things Difficult For Themselves

Leeds United 2 Plymouth Argyle 1

Leeds started off brightly and had a penalty shout turned down while top scorer Crysencio Summerville
shot just wide when shooting from 15 yards. The home side took the lead on 21 minutes when Welsh international forward Dan James scored after a poor attempted clearance from Plymouth defender Kaine Kesler-Hayden. Ten minutes later the home supporters were in high spirits when Dutch striker Joel Piroe slotted home his sixth league goal of the season following another defensive error.

In the second half Leeds seemed to take their foot off the gas and The Pilgrims nearly took full advantage. On 84 minutes substitute Ben Waine volleyed in to get one back for Plymouth and then it was squeaky bum time for all Leeds supporters. Thankfully the home side held out and occupy third place in the table eight points off pace setters Leicester City and Ipswich Town… Read more

Leeds Outfox The Foxe's

Leicester City 0 Leeds United 1

Most fans of The Championship will agree that The Foxes look destined for a quick return to The Premiership so this was certainly going to be a great barometer as to what the season hols for Leeds. And in fairness to Farke and his team they gave their fans a brilliant answer with a composed performance and a fantastic three points to booth.
In doing so Leeds ended City's nine-game winning run in the Championship with a superb victory at the King Power Stadium.

Leeds could have taken an early lead when Joel Piroe went close while Leicester's Abdul Fatawu hit the bar 11 minutes before half-time with a lovely left footed curling shot that had Meslier stranded. Going in scoreless at half time seemed to give Leeds confidence and they were by far the better side in an exciting second forty five. The… Read more

Back With A Bang

Leeds United 4 Huddersfield Town 1

Following the midweek loss to Stoke Daniel Farke made four changes to the Leeds side with Dan James and Crysencio Summerville recalled along with Jamie Shackleton and Glen Kamara. This certainly seemed to lift the team as they came out of the blocks flying and deservedly took the lead on twenty minutes. Georginio Rutter's who certainly seems to be coming into the form we expected from our record signing played a brilliant pass to Summerville who bombed forward from midfield. He found Dan James who curled a superb low shot into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area.

On the half hour mark the home side doubled their lead when Piroe found Summerville who weaved his way in from the left wing before firing in a low shot which left The Terriers keeper Lee Nicholls stranded. Three minutes… Read more

Another Costly Bamford Penalty Miss

Stoke City 1 Leeds United 0

A disastrous night at the bet365 Stadium for Leeds where a Pascal Struijk own goal and Patrick Bamford's missed penalty condemned Farke's side to defeat. It was Bamford's third penalty miss in a row as he blazed this effort over the bar on 75 minutes. He was only on the field five minutes when he won the penalty himself and despite Summerville wanting to take it Bamford took responsibility. To compound matters five minutes later Struijk put through his own net following a corner and The Potter's held on for a vital win.

To say the travelling fans were not happy with Banmford is an understatement. Unfortunately the designated penalty taker Piroe was substituted ironically for Bamford as Farke said in his after match interview. Leeds were very poor in the first half and in truth could have been two down as they totally… Read more

Hats Off To Farke And Summerville

Norwich City 2 Leeds United 3

Leeds came back from a 2-0 deficit at half time to put in a storming second half and complete three straight league wins for the first time since May 2021. In fairness to Danial Farke bring on forward substitutes Gnonto and Bamford with twenty minutes remaining turned the game and he must be complimented for his brave decision. With only four minutes on the clock Irish International Shane Duffy powered home a header from Gomes Sara corner to give The Canaries a super start. Two minutes before HT Sara dribbled his way through a static Whites defence to smash a fine second into the top corner.

While Leeds had played reasonably well in the opening 45 minutes they found themselves with a mountain to climb and not many would have given them a prayer of getting a result at Carrow Road but us skeptics… Read more

Finally Back To Back Home League Wins

Leeds United 2 Bristol City 1

The Robins came to Elland Road having not won there since 1979 but given the home sides stop start season the fans were hoping for rather than expecting a win. Thankfully after a hard fought game Danial Farke's side got the victory and back to back league wins for the first time since November 2022.

Leeds took the lead on 37 minutes when Georginio Rutter passed the ball across the six-yard box while off balance to Dan James who slotted home. It was no more than the dominant home team deserved but once again couldn't hold on till half time. In the fourth minute of first half injury time Bristol's Kal Naismith headed in Taylor Gardner-Hickman's corner to silence the home crowd.

The home sided started the second half brightly and regained the lead on 53 minutes. New signing Glen Kamara played a pass… Read more

Saints Go Marching On

Southampton 3 Leeds United 1

Leeds went to St Mary's full of confidence on the back of a six game unbeaten run while The Saints had lost their previous four games. However after just two minutes they stormed into the lead when Adam Armstrong chipped over Meslier after a superb pass from Walker-Peters had split the Leeds rearguard. Things got a whole lot worse for Leeds on 31 minutes when Kamaldeen Sulemana cut in for the right touch line and passed to Will Smallbone who side footed home off the post.

Five minutes later the home crowd were ecstatic as The Saints made it 3-0. Adam Armstrong got his second goal as he twisted and turned to leave left back Sam Byram on his rear end and calmly shot into the far corner. With the game live on Sky Sports I'm sure every Leeds fan was wondering what on earth… Read more
