Back To Earth With A Bang

Coventry City 2 Leeds United 1

With Ipswich losing in the early kick off Leeds could have gone top but The Skyblues had different ideas at the CBS Arena as they ran out deserved winners against a lack luster Leeds side. On nine minutes Coventry took the lead when Wright broke forward down the left before having a shot excellently saved by Illan Meslier. Unfortunately Leeds failed to clear from the resulting corner and Simms nodded home from close range. Three minutes later the home side could have doubled their lead when Callum O'Hare shot was brilliantly saved by Meslier.

Leeds managed to gain a grip on proceedings as the first half went on but once again Patrick Bamford was unable to find the net after excellent build up play from Junior Firpo and Georginio Rutter on the left. Four minutes into the second half the home side doubled their… Read more

Leeds Silence The Tigers

Leeds United 3 Hull City 1

Leeds got off to a wonderful start against The Tigers when Sam Byram got on the score sheet in the ninth minute. He headed home at the back post after Summerville's effort had been save by Hull keeper Allsop and fell kindly for him to score. However Patrick Bamford should have doubled the lead midway through the first half but somehow managed to put James's low left-wing cross over from six yards with the goal at his mercy. It was a shocking miss and Farke seems to be too loyal to the striker.

Hull were level on 34 minutes when Tyler Morton cross was flicked on for Carvalho to score his fifth Hull goal as he ghosted in behind Ethan Ampadu at the near post. This certainly silenced the crowd and one hoped that the half time pep talk would drive on the home… Read more

What A Precious Point

Watford 2 Leeds United 2

Talk about getting out of jail for Leeds but in the end a wonderful point which felt like a win.The Hornets started brightly but it was against the run of play that Leeds should have taken the lead when Daniel Bachmann made a brilliant reaction save to keep out Summerville's strike from the edge of the box. The home side took the lead on 31 mins when Dennis's powerful drive was excellently parried by Leeds keeper Illan Meslier but unfortunately the ball fell to Bayo who lashed home the rebound on the volley.

With eight minutes remaining to the break Leeds got back on level terms despite playing second fiddle to a very determined and well drilled Watford side. Summerville scored his 16th goal of the season when he bent a superb right-footed effort past Bachmann and just inside the far post. One would have thought… Read more

Top Of The Table

Leeds United 2 Millwall 0

This was always going to be a tough game for Leeds as The Lions have always proved a tough nut to crack for the home side. Early doors it was all Leeds but it took until the 33rd minute for the home crowd to relax when they took a deserved lead. Italy International forward Wilfried Gnonto firing home left-footed from 20 yards past a stranded Sarkic to send the home crowd into full voice. Sarkic pulled off a fabulous diving save to deny Crysencio Summerville but Leeds without doubt should have been awarded a penalty just before half time.

Millwall defender Jake Cooper was already on a booking when he went in high with his knee and appeared to catch Joe Rodon in his face but the referee did not point to the spot. It took until 11 minutes from the end for Leeds to make… Read more

Leeds Silence The Owls

Sheffield Wednesday 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds travelled to Hillsborough Stadium for their second Yorkshire derby in six days , their fourth game in ten days and thankfully came away with the points. The Owls who had won their previous four games in The Championship were always a potential banana skin for The Whites but on this occasion Leeds dominated proceeding from the off. However against the run of play the home side nearly took the lead on 16 minutes but for a marvelous save from Illan Meslier. Marvin Johnson's corner fell to Djeidi Gassama and his close-range effort was kept out by the leg of Meslier when he looked certain to score.

Georginio Rutter twice came close for the visitors before they took the lead in the fifth minute of first half injury time. Firpo cross was met by Patrick Bamford at the back post to score his seventh goal… Read more

Leeds Break The Potters Hearts

Leeds United 1 Stoke City 0

Ennislusc were represented at Elland Road this evening when Kieran Ryan, Seamus O Doherty , Kevin and Noelette Barry were in attendance to lend their support to Farke's boys. While it may not have been the most entertaining game in the world for them the result is all that mattered in the race for automatic promotion back to The Premiership.

Leeds dominated the early exchanges and were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Stoke keeper Daniel Iversen looked to have clip Dan James as he raced onto a weak back pass but the referee wasn't interested. However on 33 minutes James got his just rewards with an excellently taken goal. James evaded tackles from Lynden Gooch and Wouter Burger after been played in by Rutter and firing into the bottom corner. It looked like it took a slight deflection off one of… Read more

Poor Showing But We'll Take The Point

Huddersfield Town 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds magnificent winning league run came to and end at The John Smith Stadium when The Terriers earned a deserved point despite being down to ten men for the entire second half. This Yorkshire derby was always going to be a banana skin for The Whites considering they were also after playing an extremely tough FA Cup game vs Chelsea on Wednesday night in London. For all their 79 per cent possession Leeds managed just two shots on target in the entire game which is a shocking stat given their numerical advantage for half the game.

The home sides who dominated the first half took the lead in the first minute of injury time when substitute defender Helik scored after Meslier's super save from Danny Ward's header from Sorba Thomas free-kick looked destined for the net. In an action packed first half injury Huddersfield were… Read more

What A Sweet Win Over The Foxes

Leeds United 3 Leicester City 1

Sometimes one need a rub of the green and certainly today Daniel Farke's side got it with three goals in the last ten minutes to stun The Foxes who in truth deserved to be out of sight at that stage. It certainly wasn't a vintage performance by any standards from the home side but in recording their ninth successive league victory and gaining a superb three points it could mean the difference between going up automatically or entering the mine field of the play offs.

The visitors who started superbly took a deserved lead on 15 minutes when the visitors took a deserved lead when Wout Faes headed in unmarked from a corner. Try as the might Leeds looked very legged and were not in the game at all in the first half. Midway through the second half The Foxes had a goal ruled… Read more

Brilliant Defence Sees Leeds Marching On

Plymouth Argyle 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds were back at Home Park once again after facing The Pilgrims for the third time since the New Year after meeting them twice in the FA Cup. The visitors were out of the blocks straight away with their high pressing game and took the lead on ten minutes with a brilliant piece of play from Gnonto. Rutter kicked a hopeful high pass into space behind the defence and Italy international Gnonto's superb first touch knocked the ball beyond Lewis Gibson and he shoot low into the bottom corner off the post. This was just the start Leeds needed as Plymouth hadn't been beaten at home since October in the league so the early goal settled the nerves.

There was no further scoring to the half time whistle and on the resumption we saw a different Argyle. The drove at Leeds and a Miller… Read more

Majestic Performance From Leeds

Swansea City 0 Leeds United 4

Leeds maintained their brilliant start to 2024 in the league with a seventh straight win at the Swansea.com Stadium. Ironically this has coincided with a return to form of the much maligned Patrick Bamford who I must confess that I have been one of those critics. When Patrick is fully fit and in form he's a superb target man but over the last two seasons due to injury and loss of form we haven't seen him at his best. However just before kick off he was injured in the warm up and suddenly we were without our striker who has scored four goals and an assist in his last six league games.

However ex Swansea city strike Joel Piroe replaced him and went on to have an excellent game. Leeds took the lead on eight minutes when Summerville scored his 16th goal of the… Read more

Five In A Row For Leeds

Leeds United 3 Rotherham United 0

Leeds welcomed The Millers to Elland Road , a team that has always given us problems but thankfully The Whites recorded their fifth successive league win as they chase an automatic spot. Farke's boys were dominant throughout and could have scored even more as they maintained their 100% league record in 2024. In attendance at Elland Road for a first ever visit were the Reynolds family from Clarecastle dad Martin , his wife Veronica and daughters Lorraine and Emma. They certainly got a great game to attend and sample the super atmosphere at ER.

Leeds opened the scoring in controversial circumstances in the 10th minute when Patrick Bamford turned in a Firpo cross which in truth looked to be done with his arm. Despite the protestations from the away side the goal stood. The Millers keeper Viktor Johansson kept them in the game as… Read more

The Singing Canaries Were Silenced This Evening

Leeds United 1 Norwich City 0

Leeds welcomed The Canaries to Elland Road with both teams in good form and striving for promotion places. Norwich had been unbeaten in their previous five games while following this victory Leeds created some club history in winning their first five games in a calendar year. They are also unbeaten in their last 15 homes games which is a fantastic achievement given they are well below par on their travels on the road. While not being a spectacular game Leeds dug out the win and that's all that counts.

What turned out to be the winner came on 16 minutes when Patrick Bamford headed home Dan James cross for his fourth goal in five matches. It must be the new blond hairstyle that has given Bamford confidence as he's back to the form of three seasons ago when he terrorized The Championship defences. In… Read more

Finally A Rub Of The Green For Leeds

Leeds United 2 Preston North End 1

Having been beaten at Deepdale earlier in the season Leeds were on a mission to down The Lilywhites but after only 65 seconds found themselves a goal down. Once again it was shocking defending that put Preston ahead. Liam Lindsay's headed back across the 18-yard box following a corner with his effort falling to Liam Millar. He actually scuffed his low cross into the six-yard area but fortunately for him their top scorer Will Keane was on hand to rifle home his fifth goal in six games. Talk about silencing the Elland Road crowd but five minutes later their agony changed to joyous celebrations.

Crysencio Summerville who is having a monumental season played in Junior Firpo (who is also having a new lease of life following injury) and his cross to the back post was headed in by Dan James. A whirlwind start… Read more

Bluebirds Have No Answer To Rampant Whites

Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 3

Leeds travelled to Ninian Park or the Cardiff City Stadium as it's now called to a ground that has always been a banana skin for The Whites but on this occasion they came up trumps. The visitors came out of the traps flying and took a deserved if somewhat lucky lead on thirteen minutes. Crysencio Summerville fired in a low cross which hit the sliding Patrick Bamford, bounced off Junior Firpo and back to Bamford who toe poked home while still on the ground. A scruffy goal like this was what Bamford needed for his confidence.

Jak Alnwick in the Cardiff goal was keeping the home side in it but was beaten again on thirty one minutes.Cardiff's Manolis Siopis lost possession to Glen Kamara who set up Summerville whos's shot was saved by Alnwick but thankfully Dan James was in the right place to… Read more

Great Start To The New Year

Leeds United 3 Birmingham City 0

Leeds boss Daniel Farke finally changed his starting X1 by making five changes with Kristoffer Klaesson handed his first start in goal after Karl Darlow who was deputising for the suspended Meslier dislocated a thumb. He was playing his first Leeds game at any level since an under-21s appearance last February so this was a huge day for the Norwegian. However he came through the game without much fuss as a clinical home side put The Blues to the sword and following the game their manager Wayne Rooney the ex Man United great got the sack.

Patrick Bamford was recalled in place of Joel Piroe while James, Glen Kamara and Archie Gray were also brought into the starting team. On 34 minutes Bamford proved his worth when heading home a brilliant cross from Dan James and a minute into added first half injury time… Read more

Happy New Year To All Ennislusc Members

With the passing of another year I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Ennislusc members, their families and friends sincere Good Wishes, Health and Happiness for 2024.

On the football front the last year for Leeds saw what we have become accustomed to at Elland Road, turbulent times. Managers changes, relegation from The Premiership, players leaving on loan following same as written into their contracts and of course The 49ers NFL franchise has taken control of the club. A poor start to the 23/24 season changed in late October but once again at Christmas we lost two games in a row ( both away) to drop down the table.

Despite all the doom and gloom we are now 4th in The Championship and one would hope that at the end of the season we will at least be in the play off places as the promotion spots… Read more

Dire Away Form Continues

West Bromwich Albion 1 Leeds United 0

It has been a disastrous December for Leeds as they have now won only one of their last five league games and in truth didn't deserve much from today's game. Once again the defence didn't cover themselves in glory and Darlow startred in goal for the suspended Meslier. Leeds have now dropped to 4th in the table with Southampton now five points ahead in 3rd place.

The Baggies who beat Norwich on St Stephen's Day were well up for the game with their biggest crowd of the season at the game. WBA had the best player on the field in Jed Wallace and he was causing all sorts of problems for the visitors. The home side could have opened the scoring when a corner from ex Leeds player Alex Mowatt was missed completely by Darlow and Spence on the line cleared a volley… Read more

Shocking Meslier Sees Red

Preston North End 2 Leeds United 1

Following on from their best performance of the season at home to Ipswich, Leeds poor away form came back to haunt them as The Lilywhites won a feisty affair at Deepdale. In a dour first half Liam Millar who caused Leeds bother on the left wing all day came closest to opening the scoring.

The game changed dramatically eight minutes into the second half when Meslier was red-carded. After catch a cross Meslier squared up to Ben Whiteman as they went head to head in much ado about nothing. Meslier was then shoved by Milutin Osmajic and he retaliated by shoving the forward in the face. Inevitably he fell to the ground as if getting a righ hook fro Tyson Fury and proceeded to roll around the ground in supposed agony. The referee was left with no option but to send Meslier off… Read more

Leeds Blow A Huge Opportunity

Leeds United 1 Coventry City 1

With Ipswich dropping points earlier in the day this was a massive opportunity for Leeds to close the gap on them. However despite numerous chances and huge possession stats unfortunately our old failing of not putting the ball in the net came back to haunt us once again. The Whites dominated the early stages with Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe both testing Brad Collins in the Coventry goal. Welsh International Dan James's cross on twenty minutes was begging to be toe poked home but Rutter's sliding in couldn't make contact.

Rutter had a great opportunity to put Leeds ahead just before the break but he dragged his effort wide. On 58 minutes Rutter made amends with a beautiful through ball which Summerville chipped over the advancing Sky Blues keeper Brad Collins. One would have thought Leeds would drive on from here but eight minutes… Read more
