No Sting From Leeds Nor Goals

Leeds United 0 Brentford 0

Ennislusc members traveled over in the hope of seeing a Leeds win and breathing space in our quest to stay in The Premiership but in a game to forget they had to settle for a point. The club were represented at the game by Mike Jones, Brian Woods, Marty Brennan, Dom O Rourke, Richie Lynch, David O Grady, Paul Harte, Tadgh Murphy, Declan Meaney and Sean Naughton. This game can only be described as an atrocious advertisement for Premiership football as The Bees came to defend stoutly and unfortunately Leeds never troubled Irish International goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher except for an effort from a Lukas Nmecha strike.

Long-range strikes were the ordee of the night with Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu and Ao Tanaka both trying their luck after the break only to be denied by Kelleher. It was only in the last ten minutes that there was… Read more

Ten Men Leeds Silence The Eagles

Crystal Palace 0 Leeds United 0

This was an extremely dour first half with neither side creating much but it ignited into life in the 45th minute and the following minutes of injury time. Following a Leeds corner Palace captain Will Hughes was penalised for a hand ball and referee Thomas Bramall pointed to the spot. Up stepped Calvert-Lewin but he dragged his spot-kick wide of the left post but unfortunately worse was to follow for Farke's men. In the fifth minute of injury time left back Gabriel Gudmundsson was given a second booking for a foul on Ismaila Sarr in the centre circle and got his marching orders.

It was a tall order for Leeds to get something out of the game but to their credit the defended brilliantly in the second half limiting Palace to few chances. Palace did have the ball in the net with 12 minutes… Read more

Daylight Robbery By The Black Cats

Leeds United 0 Sunderland 1

This was a game that Daniel Farke had targeted but for the second successive home game Leeds failed to hit the onion sack. The Black Cats despite having only thirty per cent possession and one shot on target all evening, that being a dubious penalty came away with all three points. Let there be no doubt this was a damaging defeat in Leeds bid to remain in the Premiership. In a game that lacked any quality or intensity from the home side their best efforts in the first half came from Anton Stach's free-kick which was pushed behind by keeper Melker Ellborg who was making his debut in goal. The Swedish keeper also saved excellently from Jaka Bijol's close-range header in 12 minutes of added time.

Leeds continued to dictate the second half and on 66 minutes looked to have taken the lead but Joe Rodon's… Read more

Sixth Premiership Defeat In A Row To The Citizens For Leeds

Leeds United 0 Manchester City 1

With City coming to Elland Road the home side needed to start well and that they did to their credit. Leeds will be wondering how they did not score after making a excellent start and giving City real cause for concern as they try to close the gap at the top on Arsenal. However not converting chances has been a huge issue for Daniel Farke's side and that you can't do against the top teams or you will be punished . In form Dominic Calvert-Lewin had a golden opportunity inside the opening four minutes to hit the net but shot wide from eight yards after an excellent Brenden Aaronson's cross from the right. In a superb first half from Leeds American International Aaronson who is having an excellent season shot wide from close range and James Justin had an effort saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma… Read more

Just Rewards With Superb Point On The Road for Leeds

Aston Villa 1 Leeds United 1

This was another huge game for Leeds going to Villa Park with the home side sitting 3rd in The Premiership but they put in a superb performance and can consider themselves unlucky not to come away with all three points. As in the Chelsea game we lived on scraps and had only 33 per cent possession but created four shots on target just like Unai Emery's Villa. Leeds hit the front on 31 minutes and what a goal it was from Anton Stach. The visitors were awarded a free 30 yards out to the left of the penalty area and he shaped up as if he would play the ball to the far post but caught Emiliano Martinez out of position and fired the ball into the top corner. It was a stunning goal and certainly silenced the big home support. Villa had a… Read more

Leeds Ride Their Luck To Sing The Blues

Chelsea 2 Leeds United 2

Despite having only 34 per cent possession Leeds hung in their and were rewarded with two goals in six minutes to earn a superb point a Stamford Bridge. The Blues under new manager Liam Rosenior had won all four of their Premiership games under his watch and the early signs were he was going to extend that to five given their dominance. However this Leeds team don't lie down and while one might say the rode their luck they deserved a point for their perseverance.

Joao Pedro opened the scoring for The Blues on 24 minutes when he chipped the on-rushing Karl Darlow following a brilliant Cole Palmer's through ball. The home side while dominating all over the field didn't add to their tally before the half time whistle and Leeds breathed a sigh of relief that they were still in the game. However on… Read more

Leeds Set The Forest On Fire

Leeds United 3 Nottingham Forest 1

With both sides level on points going into this game it was a must win game for Farke's boys and in truth they delivered when it mattered with a dominant display at a rocking Elland Road. This was only the 4th victory for Leeds in 16 Premiership games but how important could this victory be at seasons end one wonders. Leeds started brightly with Dominic Calvert Lewin heading against the crossbar before Bogle's scored on 26 minutes following Ilia Gruev assist. Then four minutes later Noah Okafor scored a second with an assist from James Justin for the hosts and Leeds were flying high. Sean Dyche's men were rocking at this stage and one expected a big back lash after half time from Forest.

However the opposite happened and Leeds hit a third four minutes after the interval. And it was that man Dominic… Read more

Gunned Down

Leeds United 0 Arsenal 4

This was clearly a game where the gulf in class was startlingly apparent as The Gunners steam rolled Leeds into submission and certainly on this showing will take some stopping in their quest to win The Premiership. When Arsenal's England International Bukayo Saka got injured in the warm up with a hip injury one thought it was a positive for Leeds but his replacement Noni Madueke tormented the home side such is the quality of their squad. Leeds started the game well but on twenty seven minutes the flood gates creaked open. Madueke curled in an excellent cross for Martin Zubimendi to head Arsenal in front and one feared for the home side with over an hour to play. Seven minutes before the half time whistle Arsenal doubled their lead and this was a shocking error from goalkeeper Karl Darlow who recently took over in… Read more

A Game Of Two Halves

Everton 1 Leeds United 1

This was a game of two halves where Leeds dominated the first and should have gone in more than one up. The Toffees came roaring back in the second half and in the end a draw was a fair outcome for both sides. Leeds were in complete control in the first half taking a deserved lead on 28 minutes with Justin scoring after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had failed to get a touch on Anton Stach's excellent cross. Five minutes later Calvert-Lewin should have marked the return to his former club by doubling Leeds advantage only to strike the near post from six yards when he got on the end of Jayden Bogle's cross. Had this gone it was hard to see Everton coming back given their first half performance and at half time David Moyes rang the changes which changed the game.

He brought on Jarrad… Read more

Nmecha To The Rescue

Leeds United 1 Fulham 0

Lukas Nmecha came off the bench to score a 91st-minute winner as a dominant Leeds ended The Cottagers six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League. It was no more than Leeds deserved as they took the game to Fulham from the off. This was a wonderful three points for Farke's boys after the injury time winner they conceded against Newcastle United this was a sweet win. Leeds remain eight points clear of the relegation zone with 18th-placed West Ham earning a shock win at Spurs.

Leeds dropped goalkeeper Perri in favour of Darlow and this was a decision that had been long on the cards. After an unexciting first half Leeds were on top of Fulham after the break restricting the visitors to only three shots while attempting nine. The all important goal came in the first minute of injury time when Nmecha turned home… Read more

12th Minute Injury Time Agony For Leeds

Newcastle United 4 Leeds United 3

What can only be classed as the match of the season to date ended in agony for Leeds as Newcastle United forward Harvey Barnes scored an incredible 102nd-minute winner. This was harsh on Leeds who had performed brilliantly all through and also conceded a 91st minute penalty to The Magpies. Leeds went ahead on 32 minutes as Dominic Calvert-Lewin threaded the ball through to Brenden Aaronson who finished superbly into the bottom corner of Pope's net. However four minutes later Newcastle were back on level thanks to a sidefooted finish from Barnes after Nick Woltemade laid the ball off to his team-mate inside the box.
Leeds were then awarded a penalty in first half injury time following a hand ball by Thiaw. Up stepped Calvert-Lewin to coolly sent goalkeeper Nick Pope the wrong way and end a superb first half for the visitors.

Newcastle came… Read more

Moving On Up From The Dreaded Bottom Three

Leeds United 1 Manchester United 1

Another titanic game for Leeds within four days saw then deservedly gain a point and with another storming performance. The end result saw United's manager Ruben Amorim get the sack after a run of poor results and his comments after the game in a TV interview certainly didn't help his cause. Injuries to United's skipper Bruno Fernandes and England international Mason Mount along with Bryan Mbuemo and Amad Diallo involved in the African Nations Cup certainly didn't help Amorim's team selection either.

Late in the first half Calvert-Lewin header clipped off the post following Anton Stach's excellent cross. On 62 minutes Elland Road lit up when Brendan Aaronson finished brilliantly after a superb through ball from Leeds captain Struijk. Unfortunately the delirium didn't last long for Leeds fans as three minutes later United were back on level terms. Dutch International substitute Joshua Zirkzee played… Read more

Just What We Wanted For Christmas

Leeds United 4 Crystal Palace 1

What an evening at Elland Road for the capacity attendance as one and all saw a superb performance for the home side. Our summer signing from Everton Dominic Calvert-Lewin extended his scoring streak to five Premier League games with a superb double and put his name in the frame for an England call up. Leeds dominated the game from the start but had to wait until the 38th minute to hit the front. Ampadu's long throw-in was flicked on by Palace defender Chris Richards towards the back post and although England striker Calvert-Lewin's first shot was saved by Dean Henderson he was on hand to tap home the rebound.

Four minutes into first half injury time an Ampadu throw in lead to Leeds second goal. His long throw from the right wing was headed on by Jaka Bijol for Calvert-Lewin to finish with aplomb. What… Read more

What A Team Goal To Earn A Vital Point On The Road

Sunderland 1 Leeds United 1

Despite a lively start where Daniel Farke's men enjoyed plenty of possession at The Stadium of Light it was the hosts who struck first on 28 minutes. Leeds could only clear a long throw-in from Nordi Mukiele as far as Swiss International Granit Xhaka who played a brilliant pass from the edge of the box for Adingra to curl past goalkeeper Lucas Perri. It was against the run of play but it was Sunderland's player of the season's pass which made the goal. On 39 minutes Leeds nearly equalised when Brenden Aaronson beat Sunderland keeper Robin Roefs with a low shot only for Trai Hume to clear off the line.

Centre Back Joe Rodon had gone off with an ankle injury and was replaced by Tanaka which necessitated a reshuffle at the back. Two minutes after the restart Leeds were back level and what a… Read more

Leeds Frustrate The Champions

Liverpool 0 Leeds United 0

This was a game that many Leeds supporters were dreading meeting the Premier League Champions on their home patch and even the bookies odds of 7/2 for a win at Anfield didn't breath confidence. However on the first day of the New Year Leeds put in a brilliant 90+ minutes of defending and even had a goal ruled marginally offside on 81 minutes.
Liverpool dominated possession but hardly tested Lucas Perri in the Leeds goal. This indeed was the first time in 84 games since Arne Slot took over The Reds that they failed to score in a game which is a huge tribute to Farke's tactics.

Jeremie Frimpong's left-footed strike in the first half was met by Ekitike but unbelievably ended up heading the ball in the opposite direction when all he had to do was guide it into an open goal. This was… Read more

Leeds Sting The Bees

Brentford 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds record in London has been atrocious , losing their last nine games in the city but thankfully that changed at The Getch Community Stadium home of The Bees. In a very poor first half the only thing of note was Brentford were awarded a penalty when Dango Ouattara felt contact from Gabriel Gudmundsson. It looked a dubious penalty at best but the decision was thankfully overturned for offside after a lengthy check by the video assistant referee.

The second half was uneventful until the 70th minute when ex Liverpool star Jordan Henderson scored his first Brentford goal with a deflected effort. It was somewhat harsh on Leeds but it seemed to sting them into action. On 82 minutes Leeds were back level when Calvert-Lewin rose to head in a superb cross from Wilfried Gnonto. The striker netted for the fourth straight game and if Leeds… Read more

What A Turnaround

Leeds United 3 Liverpool 3

The first 45 minutes of the game was forgetful but the second will go down as a thrill a minute game.
Liverpool had the best chances of the first half with Cody Gakpo, Florian Wirtz and Ekitike having efforts that didn't trouble Perri though Curtis Jones did strike the woodwork with a curling effort from outside the box. It was a poor half from Leeds who looked very tentative and somewhat in awe of the opposition.

The game burst into life in the first five minutes of the second half when Hugo Ekitike scored two goals in three minutes to put Liverpool in control. Liverpool looked in total control but the home side got a life line on 73 minutes when Ibrahima Konate fouled Wilfried Gnonto in the box.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin struck from the penalty spot for Daniel Farke's side and the Leeds fans were in… Read more

Leeds Are Singing The Blues

Leeds United 3 Chelsea 1

This was just the way to end a four game losing run for Daniel Farke's men at a packed Elland Road. Leeds dominated the first half and took the lead on six minutes with a stunning header from Slovenian centre-back Bijol following a corner from Anton Stach. The home side doubled their lead on 43 minutes and what a goal it was. Enzo Fernandez was dispossessed near his own box and Jayden Bogle found Tanaka to fire home from 22 yards into the top corner. Chelseas's only effort of the first half was a weak effort from Liam Delap.

At half time Maresca sent on Neto and Malo Gusto for Benoit Badiashile and Estevao Willian who was fortunate to only get a yellow card not red for kicking out at Gabriel Gudmundsson. Leeds started the second half well and had chances from Lukas Nmecha and… Read more

Heartbreak For Leeds At The Death

Manchester City 3 Leeds United 2

It's hard enough going to The Etihad Stadium against one of the top team in Europe not to mind The Premiership but to conceded after 59 seconds one expects a drubbing but thankfully that didn't happen to Leeds. England International Phil Foden scored the goal and while it was a wonderful the defending was once again shocking. Things got worse for Leeds on 25 minutes when Perri came to punch a corner and got no where near the ball which dropped to Josko Gvardiol to tap home. It was all City now to the half time whistle which was a relief to all Leeds supporters.

One was asking what Daniel Farke would do and he make two quick changes a minute into the second half bring on Calvert-Lewin and Bijol for Dan James and Gnonto. There was a buzz about Leeds who now went… Read more

Dire Straits For Farke And Leeds !

Leeds United 1 Aston Villa 2

Leeds were looking to bounce back after two successive defeats and got off to the perfect start after just eight minutes. Sean Longstaff free-kick was played back across goal by Gabriel Gudmundsson and Villa keeper Emi Martinez was outjumped by Anton Stach. His header was cleared off the line but deflected in off Leeds striker Lukas Nmecha. Villa protested that the keeper was impeded but after a long check by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) the goal was given. Leeds held their own until half time and must have gone in with great confidence.

However three minutes into the second half Villa were level. Ex Dortmund player Donyell Malen a half time substitution by manager Unai Emery provided a superb low cross which Morgan Rogers flicked home. Villa were now buoyed up and looking for their sixth league victory out of the last seven… Read more
