Best Start To Season Since 1972

Leeds United 2 Hartlepool 0

Leeds maintained their 100 per cent start to the season and have moved out of a negative points difference courtesy of a 2-0 win over Hartlepool.
Five successive victories has seen Dennis Wise's side erase the 15-point penalty they were handed by the Football League and they are now on zero. This is Leeds best start to a season since the season 72/73 when the great Don Revie was in charge.

Hartlepool who are going well themslves made life very difficult for a confident Leeds and included exLeeds striker Ian Moore in their line up. However goals from the head of Tresor Kandol ( his fourth of the season) on 20mins following a Frazier Richardson cross and on 50 mins from Jermaine Beckford who chipped the keeper after being put in the clear by Carole. Once again Leeds had the biggest crowd of the season at a… Read more

New Gear Ordered

The club has just put in a large order for rugby style shirts in the Leeds colours along with the Ennislusc crest on the front and LUFC on the sleeve. Also ordered are club jackets and I expect these will sell like hot cakes as they are of very good quality and look stylish.

It is expect that it will take 3/4 weeks for the order to be completed and it is proposed to have a night in Moroneys to sell the tops and jackets. They will be sold to members only who have their membership paid as the club is subsidizing them to a hefty tune. Don't be disappointed and get your order in now.

Leeds Continue Great Start To Season

Leeds United 1 Luton Town 0

Kevin Blackwell made a rerurn visit to Elland Road with his Luton team but went away disappointed as Wises men made it four in a row. Tresor Kandol's third goal of the season on 42mins following a cross from Jermaine Beckford was the difference at the end.

Wise will be very happy with the way his charges played particularly in the first half and the attendance of 26,856 was a tribute to those loyal Leeds supporters who sense that things are on the up at the club following five turbulent years.

However we are still on minus three points thanks to the League deducting 15 points from us at the start of the season but no team has made a runaway start so we are very much in the mix for promotion this season if we can keep this great run going.

Excellent Turnout for AGM

It was great to see a big turnout for our AGM last night and it proved to any doubters out there that Leeds fans are a hardy lot and true to their team. We also welcomed two new members to the club Craig Ryan and Anthony O Halloran. It was one of our best AGM's since the club was formed and many issues were debated not least wheather we would fly out of Shannon or go via Galway for our club trip in November.

It was decided on a show of hands that we would go to the Swindon game on 17th November and that it would be a two day trip. Thoughts of going via Shannon on a Saturday morning and flying into Galway on Sunday afternoon were tossed aside in favour of flying on Friday thus giving us a two nights stay in the Queens Hotel Leeds. Kevin Green… Read more

Congratulations It's a Boy

Congratulations to John and Aine Galvin, staunch Leeds United fans and members of Ennislusc on the birth of their son Killian yesterday. No doubt he will be making the trek to Elland Road in the future and hopefully we'll be back in the Premiership then. Best wishes from all at Ennislusc.

Three Out Of Three For Wises Boys

Nottingham Forest 1 Leeds United 2

In one of the biggest clashes ever to take place in the third tier of English football (att 25,876), Leeds took the lead through Congolese striker Tresor Kandol, who drilled the ball home after 17 minutes.

Just after half time Forest found their way back into the game and got their reward when Kris Commons 49th-minute free-kick swung into the goal from the right to level the scores and give the home side their first goal of the season.
However once again United left it late when a 89th-minute strike from close range from Jermaine Beckford was enough to secure all three points for Dennis Wise's side.

Leeds now sit on minus six points and Wise and the fans must be thrilled with the start to life in League 1. I know I am!

Three Wins In A Row

Leeds United 4 Southend 1

Late goals from Jermaine Beckford, Rui Marques and Tore Andre Flo helped Leeds claw back another three points against their 15-point penalty at Elland Road. Earlier it had looked like Adam Barrett had secured Southend a share of the points with a 69th minute equaliser following Alan Thompson's third minute goal for the home team.

A crowd of over 24,000 were at Elland Road for the first home game of the season,1,500 more than for the opening fixture last season. Once again Wise praised the fans for their contribution while also saying that he was especially happy with the second half performance from his players who played to the very end and got their just rewards.

Carling Cup Draw

Following Leeds victory vs Macclesfield ( 1-0) in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night their reward is an away fixture with Portsmouth at Fratton Park on August 27th. These two teams last met in in October 2004 in the Carling Cup also when Portsmouth were victorious by the odd goal in three once again at Fratton Park.

It will be interesting to see how this new look Leeds team copes with a top Premiership side who have invested heavely this season in their quest for a European place next season.

Great Start To Life In League 1

Tranmere Rovers 0 Leeds United 1

Leeds United began life in League One with a 2-1 win at Tranmere a result that will give Dennis Wise and his boys a lot of confidence for the long season ahead. Thw Whites fell behind to a Chris Greenacre goal but hit back through a Matt Heath header following a Alan Thompson free kick before Tresor Kandol bagged a late winner.

It was the fighting spirit especially in the second half which was very pleasing to see considering how poor the team were for all the first half.It looked like they had just met that morning for the game such was their dire showing but following some stern words from Wise at half time the got their act together and got their just reward.Great stat but long way to go yet.

Tragic Loss

It was with deep sadness that news came through today that Ger Mullane who was know throughout Ireland for his athletic prowess ( ex Irish International) had passed away in hospital in Dublin. Ger had collapsed during the Kildysart 10k on Sunday week last and never recovered. An avid Leeds United fan, he worked in the Revenue Offices in Limerick and was great friends with our colleague Frankie Woods.

Indeed Ger used to keep Frank abrest of things at Elland Road through his constant emails and was always asking how things were going with the Ennis Branch. Frank did his best to get Ger on one of our many trips but his weekends were taken up with travelling around the country for road races.

Our sincere sympathy goes out to his family and colleagues on their tragic loss.

Appeal Fails

Leeds have lost their appeal against the Football League's decision to dock them 15 points. Chairman Ken Bates had been hoping the Football League would agree to a compromise and cut the deficit, but the board has stood its ground.

"Leeds United presented their appeal and why they thought the board was wrong,"said Football League chairman Lord Mawhinney. "We then had a vote, in which the league overwhelmingly endorsed the decision that there should be a sanction. "In a second vote, the league then overwhelmingly endorsed the decision that the sanction should be 15 points. "If you want to know what overwhelmingly means, it means in both cases the vote was over 75 per cent."

Leeds must therefore start the season 15 points in arrears and facing a huge challenge to earn promotion back to the Championship. Manager Dennis Wise forever the optimist has said his side will need to… Read more

Leeds Deducted 15 pts

Leeds must start the League One season with a 15-point deduction after receiving their Football League share. Our beloved Whites have been trying to secure the share in time to begin the new campaign next weekend against Tranmere Rovers.
But in order to take up their spot in League One for the coming season, Dennis Wise's Leeds must accept a 15-point penalty.

An appeal has been lodged with the Football League but it remains to be seen if this will be successful. With the Inland Revenue looking for £7m in outstanding taxes also it's being a trying time being a Leeds supporter. One piece of sunshine on the horizon is that Dennis Wise can now get in some new players even though with only a week to the season kick off it's not ideal time to bed in new players. Now we'll see the true Leeds supporters in the coming months.

Things Looking Up At Last

The future of Leeds United looks a little brighter after the Football League agreed to meet club officials next week. Serious doubts linger whether the club will start the new League One season as they are still awaiting their 'golden share'. However, after receiving all the necessaryinformation from Leeds' administrators KPMG, the League have agreed to meet club officials in a bid to resolve the club's precarious position.

This is great news for all Leeds fans and hopefully will allow the club to make some new signings before the start of the new season.Although it does not give players much time to bed in it would be great to finally see some new blood join the club in our quest to get back to the Championship.

Players Ask Where's Our Wages

With the Leeds players on their pre season tour in Germany it has come to light that the players are still awaiting payment of wages for over six weeks while the administration side of things are being sorted out.

The Professional Footballers' Association has called on Leeds United to pay their players their outstanding wages. The summer saga regarding the club's ownership has meant Dennis Wise's squad have gone six weeks without pay. With Ken Bates winning the second round of bidding for the club, PFA representative Mick McGuire has urged Leeds to stump up the cash.

"It's an absolute mess and it needs to be resolved urgently because the players are reaching the end of their tethers," stated McGuire. There are funds around so there needs to be some common sense to make sure the players get their wages. It's getting on for six weeks now and you cannot expect… Read more

Bates Our New Owner-Again!

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates is buoyant on the club's future now that they have been given a 'clean start'. Bates is back in control of the club after administrators KPMG accepted his consortium's offer in the second round of bidding.

Former Chelsea supremo Bates has hit out at those who have delayed him gaining control, stating the club have missed out on a number of targets as a result. However, Bates remains hopeful and believes there are plenty more fish in the sea for manager Dennis Wise to sign as Leeds begin life in League One.

"Leeds were in a mess when we took over - the Peter Ridsdale era and the last board were incompetent but now we've got a clean start and a clean sheet of paper. It's a big club - it's not at the moment but it will be - and we can take it… Read more

Leeds Up For Sale

Leeds United's administrators, KPMG, have put the Elland Road club up for sale. The decision from KPMG comes after HM Revenue and Customs revealed it is owed £7.7million by Leeds and would contest chairman Ken Bates' takeover of the club. Club creditors had accepted an offer of 1p-in-the-pound from Bates which would see him buy back the club and pull The Whites out of administration.

But HM Revenue and Customs are unhappy with the deal proposed by Leeds United Football Club Ltd. Leeds may be barred from starting the League One season as the situation was not set to be resolved until the start of September. However as a result KPMG have now acted by welcoming new offers for Leeds, and have set a deadline of 5pm on Monday for bids to be received.

"We are putting the club up for sale and offers must be in by 5pm on… Read more

Leeds Win In Dublin

A total of 21 players were used by Leeds including 7 trialists with one of theses David Prutton ex Southampton scoring the second in the 76 minute. In the first half Robbie Blake had opened the scoring with a trademark free kick from the edge of the area.
