LEEDS ENTER ADMINISTRATION

At 3.15pm today our faith was finally sealed and our worst fears were realised when our beloved Leeds United went into administration. Football League rules state any club entering administration is to be docked 10 points.
As we had 10 points immediately deducted it means that any slim chance of staying up were finally gone up in smoke. Some consolation is that there will be no further points deduction when we play in League 1 next season so Leeds will start off with a clean slate.

Shortly after the appointment of Administrators the business and assets of the club were sold to another company called Leeds United Football Club Limited ( Leeds)whose investors have been introduced by Ken Bates. Complicated I hear you say.Richard Fleming, joint administrator and KPMG restructuring partner, revealed Leeds' debt totalled £35million.

Fleming told KPMG's website: "We were asked by the board of directors to advise Leeds United… Read more

10 Man United Crash

Southampton 1 Leeds United 0

Despite playing with 10 men from over an hour of the game when Alan Thompson was sent off for violent conduct Leeds nearly snatched a valueable point but were hit by a sucker punch in the 86 minute by Bradley Wright Phillips. With Hull scoring in injury time vs Stoke City courtesy of ex Leeds player Nick Barmby it was a bad day for the boys from Elland Road. Leeds had chances during the game via Healy ,Cresswell and Richardson but in the end the sending off combined with tired legs sunk Wises Boys.

All But RELEGATED

Leeds United 1 Ipswich Town 1

Yet another cruel late goal had dire consequences for Leeds with Alan Lee's 88 minute goal from a corner all but sending Leeds down to Division 1 for the first time in their history. With Hull winning away to Peter Ridsdale's Cardiff courtesy of a Dean Windess strike Leeds are now three points behind Hull but more importantly 9 goals worse off.Sunday next sees Leeds away to Championship play off chasers Derby County with Hull home to Plymouth so barring a miracle Leeds are dead and relegated.

Things started well for Leeds when Creswell headed home on 12 minutes following a Healy cross but there after they seemed to be nervous. With the Ipswich supporters chanting "Going Down" when news of Hull scoring came through it only led to more nerves on behalf of the players and supporters. And sure enough on 88 minutes our worst fears… Read more

Disaster At Layer Road

Colchester 2 Leeds United 1

Two goals in the last eight minutes, one in injury time by Colchester's top scorer Jamie Cureton in the 91st minute dented Leeds homes of Championship survival. Having gone ahead in the 54min with a wonder goal from Eddie Lewis who picked up the ball in his own half and left three Colchester players in his wake before hitting a powerful shot past keeper Gerken, Leeds where eyeing up three points when disaster struck.

After the goal it was all Colchester but Leeds seemed to have weathered the storm until a free kick from Karl Duguid was headed home by Chis Iwelumo thanks to artocious defending by an absent Leeds back four. Dennis Wise would have been delighted with a point but when substitute Hogan Ephraim whipped in a cross in injury time there was Cureton to squeeze it home beyond a stranded Ankergren. With Barnsley shocking Birmingham… Read more

All To Play For Again

Leeds United 1 Burnley 0

With David Healy wearing the captain's arm band after Jonathan Douglas was give a five match ban for reaching 15 yellow cards and also being sent off after the Colchester game for foul and abusive language it was a fired up United who took the field at Elland Road. In came Frazier Richardson, Robbie Blake and Richard Cresswell for Rui Marques ,Douglas and Tresor Kandol with Wise wanting his players to attack from the first whistle.

This they did and on 21 minutes the got their due reward when Alan Thompson crossed from the left and Matt Heath got on the end of it to head home passed Jensen. Three minutes later Richardson struck the bar with a fierce drive and on 35 min Thompson once again crossed and Heath was there again but Jensen made a great save to deny him his second of the afternoon.… Read more

Out Of Bottom Three

Leeds United 2 Plymouth 1

In what was a remarkable day in the Championship Leeds have finally climbed out of the bottom three for the first time since November 25th last thanks to an 87 min winner from on loan centre back Lubomir Michalik. With Southend losing on Friday night and Barnsley losing at Ipswich a win would lift Leeds out of the relegation mire but they left it very very late once again. Leeds named an unchanged side from the Preston game and started brightly with Healy testing Luke McCormack in the Plymouth goal on several occassions.

However it was Leeds who were caught on the break when Hamosi outsprinted Frazier Richardson to a through ball from Ebanks-Blake and the midfielder gave Ankergren no chance with a low drive. Immediately Richardson was replaced by Alan Thompson as he seemed to be carrying a leg injury. Kishishev went to right back and it… Read more

Healy Comes Up Trumps

Leeds United 2 Preston North End 1

DAVID HEALY finally transferred his magic touch from the international stage to club football last night to grab a dramatic last-minute winner for Leeds. The striker had been criticised for delivering when wearing a Northern Ireland shirt but going missing on his return to the domestic scene. But five goals in two games for his country this week convinced Dennis Wise to recall him.He repaid Wises faith in him 100% with an 89minute winner for the Elland Road boys.

It had all started badly for Leeds when after 5mins Callum Davidson won a loose ball in midfield and found ex Leeds player Danny Pugh out wide. He laid a clever pass into the path of Ormerod (another ex Leeds player), who was played onside by the lumbering Lubomir Michalik, and the striker drilled an angled finish past Casper Ankergren. It was sweet revenge for Ormerod, who broke a… Read more

Suzanne Kelly Report On Luton Game

Suzanne’s review of trip to Leeds 9 March, 2007

We began our journey on 9 March from Shannon to Liverpool. From there we took an hour long coach journey to our 4 hotel, the Queen’s in Leeds city centre where we stayed for two nights.

The next day we went to the match at Elland Road between Leeds and Luton Town. After many near goal chances, Leeds opened the scoring with a well-executed goal from Richard Crewell. The stadium erupted with cheers as the Luton players stared on in disbelief. Going in at half-time Leeds should’ve been well up but they ended the first half 1-0. in favour of the home team.

In the second half a Luton player went down in the box and was awarded a penalty. As he struck the ball everyone held their breath, luckily Casper saved it with his legs and held on tightly.

Jonathan Douglas and… Read more

Games Are Running Out

Southend 1 Leeds United 1

In what was billed as a six point game Leeds were lucky to escape with a point thanks to a 88min equalizer from substitute David Healy. United should have gone ahead on 7 mins when Richard Cresswell fed Frazier Richardson down the right wing and his cross was met by Tresor Kandol, seven yards out but he failed to hit the net. This was to prove costly when in the 23rd min Michalik failed to clear and Lee Bradbury raced on to the through ball and squared for Mark Gower who gave Ankergren no chance from 10 yards. It could and should have been 2-0 to Southend three minutes later when Freddie Eastwood hit the post with Ankergren beaten all ends up. The half ended with Darryl Flahavan being called into action to deny Cresswell from 15 yards.

The second half was not without incident with both… Read more

Stalemate at Walkers Stadium

Leicester City 1 Leeds United 1

Fresh aftertheir victory over Luton on Saturday Dennis Wise and his men were in confident mood for their trip to Leicester.Out through injury was Eddie Lewis and he was replaced by Armando Sa.In a dour first half all the action was confined to the last minute of normal time.

Leeds were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Leicester area for a foul on Jemal Johnston which keeper Henderson was booked for. Up stepped Robbie Blake but his first effort was blocked by the wall but he hit the rebound with his left foot right in the bottom corner for a well taken goal. Now all United had to do was survive until half time.

No such luck however and straight from the kick off a cross from Jarrett was met by Iain Hume and his effort went in off the crossbar after Casper Ankergren seemed… Read more

Great Result, Great Trip

Leeds United 1 Luton Town 0

Special Report from Peter Guckian who made the trip along with his Dad Peter and 20 other Ennis Lusc Supporters.

Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club Trip to Leeds vs. Luton Town

Back when this trip was being planned, things were different. Hopes of us surviving in the Championship were very low and none of us even thought how big this game would be. Little did we know it would make or break our worst season in decades, never mind a six pointer this one was going to be a nine pointer!
We set off from the West County Hotel to Shannon Airport at around ten o clock Friday morning, most of us thinking we were already relegated, although looking towards a gloomy weekend spirits were high as we boarded and travelled on the plane to the famous John Lennon Airport in Liverpool. From there we got our… Read more

We're off to Leeds

On Friday next the 9th March 23 members of Ennislusc Branch will leave Shannon en route to Leeds for the Championship match vs Luton Town on Saturday. First timers in the group this time include Kieran & Kaki Ryan and Tadgh Murphy son of fanatical Alan who himself will be making his second trip to Elland Road. Hopefully we can get the three points in our efforts to avoid relegation and no need to ask but we'll have a great weekend. Look out for the trip report next week.

John Galvin Live From Elland Road

Report from the recent QPR home game.

On Feb 20th John Galvin and Kevin Greene travelled over for as the Yorkshire Post put it “ Tonight it a true 6 pointer”. The game being on over the Feb Mid Term Break suited Kevin and myself. We arrived in Leeds early on the Tuesday morning getting the early flight to Leeds Bradford from Dublin. The atmosphere around the city and out at Elllen Rd, was palpable. We headed out to Ellen Rd, for a few pint at Biddys Bar and some shopping at the Leeds shop. Then back to Bewleys Hotel for a mini rest before the game.

Denis Wise after the Cardiff game urged the Leeds fans to come out in force for this crunch game. Ken Bates, the chairman followed suit and slashed prices for this epic struggle. The fans on the night were not found wanting as over… Read more

23rd Defeat of Season for Leeds

Leeds United 2 Sheffield Wednesday 3

On loan signing Radostin Kishishev from Charlton made his debut in midfield in place of want away captain Kevin Nicholls and Ian Moore started up front in place of Robbie Blake. The visitors were quick out of the blocks and on six minutes Deon Burton headed against the bar and when the ball was crossed in again Marcus Tudgay made no mistake with a good header from eight yards. Leeds however started to dominate proceedings and Healy ,Cresswell and Rui Marques had good efforts on goal.

However as so often has been the case Leeds fell to a sucker punch. A poor clearance by Stack was not controlled by Frazier Richardson and from fully 45 yards Northern Ireland International Chris Brunt left Stack stranded in the Leeds goal with a super chip. Just on the stroke of half time Ian Moore went close with a header.… Read more

When will we score again?

Wolves 1 Leeds United 0

Another disaster for the Whites when Mick McCarthy's men brushed aside a poor Leeds side to secure three points in their quest for promotion while leaving Wises men routed to the bottom of the table. Once more Leeds were forced to make changes to their starting line up when Alan Thompson and Armado Sa were ruled out through injury with Frazier Richardson and Seb Carole recalled. In the Wolves line up was ex-United youngster Andy Keogh who went on to have a fine game in midfield.

Over the 90 minutes it was all Wolves with Rob Edwards hitting the woodwork twice before the all important winner coming in the 76th minute. Michael Kightly started a run from midfield and skipped past two tackles, one from skipper Kevin Nicholls who made a clumse effort to stop the winger. From 16 yards Kightly hit an unstoppable shot which gave… Read more

Going Down!

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 0

We should be getting used to this scoreline by now as Leeds draw another blank in front of goal. In what was always going to be a tough fixture Leeds when down to a Nicklas Bendtner headed goal on 15 mins following a Gary McSheffrey corner. However Wises boys were unlucky as they had a goal chalked off by a linesmans flag on 30 mins and Richard Cresswell hit a post after being put through by David Healy.

Try as they may Leeds failed to penetrate a stubborn Birmingham back four and indeed only for a great save by Graham Stack and a post Bendtner would have had his hat trick.

Stalemate at Elland Road

Leeds United 0 Queens Park Rangers 0

Before their biggest crowd of the season Leeds failed to collect a valueable three points and indeed were playing second fiddle to a determined QPR side for most of the second half. Thanks to Casper Ankergren in the Leeds goal it was the home side who will be delighted to gain a point.

Two of our members Kevin Green and John Galvin (who was making a return trip to Leeds after a 20 year absence) were in attendance tonight and hopefully enjoyed the game despite the lack of goals. On their return they will give an update of their trip for EnnisLUSC and it should make interesting reading.
