Ride Our Luck

Leeds United 1 Leyton Orient 1

An action-packed game at Elland Road saw Leyton Orient claim a deserved 1-1 draw against Leeds and indeed only for a terrible error by the linesman Orient would and should have claimed full points. Orient went ahead after nine minutes when Sean Thornton's free-kick alluded everyone and went in. However that proved to be Thornton's only real contribution as he was sent off for an off-the-ball incident on 32 mins.

With a crowd of 29,177 at Elland Road ,Leeds levelled just before the hour when Seb Carole fired home and then on 80 mins they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Carole but Tresor Kandol fired a penalty over the bar. Unfortunatelt foe Wise ,Alan Thompson limped off with a suspected hamstring problem and looks to be out for a few weeks.

The dram was not however over and 10 man Orient were… Read more

Finally Beat Our Bogey Team

Brighton 0 Leeds United 1

Leeds stretched their unbeaten start to the League One season to 12 games with a battling win at Withdean Stadium .This was Leeds first victory at the Stadium since Brighton moved there from the Goldstone Ground and it pushes Leeds up to 9th in the table now. Tresor Kandol's sixth goal of the campaign with just 11 minutes remaining proved the difference in a week where he signed an extension to his contract.

Rui Marques was Leeds Man of The Match and Irish International Jonathan Douglas came in for the injured Alan Thompson at midfiels after missing last weeks game while on International duty.

All Set For Swindon Game

The club has penciled in the Swindon game for our first venture over to Elland Road on Saturday 17th November. Presently there are 22 booked for the trip and with flights costing €75, match ticket €45, coach from Liverpool to Leeds return €40 and 2 nights Bed and Breakfast in Bewleys from €100 the trip is good value in this day and age. Once again we are flying from Shannon and although the Shannon to Leeds Bradford route is starting up in November the days Ryanair fly do not lend themselves for going over for weekend fixtures.

If you are interesting in going on the trip don't hesitate to contact Paul Nihill at 086-8346091 to book your place.

New Gear A Success

Darlington 0 Leeds United 1

While this first round game in the Johnstone's Paint trophy was nothing to write home about at least it gave us Leeds fans the opportunity to see them on Sky. New signing Paul Huntington from Newcastle United scored on his debut with a header on 48 minutes and most pleasing was that Leeds kept another clean sheet.

Hoever the highlight of the night was the launch of the clubs new jackets, rugby style tops and golf tops. Here the club must give great credit to Kevin Greene who did trogan work in insuring that the gear was there on the night for the first televised game this season involving our beloved Leeds. On the night the jackets sold out and a repeat order has already been put in with Low Cost Leisure in Limerick. All were of the opinion that the gear was exceptional and with the… Read more

Wecome To The Club

Also last night long time Leeds United fans Kieran and Shane Moroney joined Ennislusc as did Josie Nestor who many would fondly remember from their years in St Flannans. On the night Shane also purchased a jacket and top so there is no doubting his loyaltys to The Whites. Great to have you all on board and Marching on Together.

Last Gasp Winner Once Again

Leeds United 1 Yeovil 0

Leeds are making a habit of scoring late winners when Mark de Vries headed in a Jonathan Douglas cross in the 89 minute much to the delight of the home supporters. United are now just three points behind fifth-placed Nottingham Forest following a last-gasp win over Yeovil. The Glovers gave as good as they got at Elland Road before being undone by de Vries last-gasp winner.

Wise Manager Of The Month

Dennis Wise has been crowned League One Manager of the Month. His Leeds United side were again unbeaten through September, as they were in August. Leeds won every game, barring one - which was a 1-1 draw at Gillingham, and they were only pegged back in the final minute when down to just nine men.

On receiving his award Wise tols reporters,
"We knew we had a lot of quality in our dressing room. We've got a lot younger squad this year and I think that was important, we've got a lot of pace and power that we didn't have last year and I think that is the difference. We've got two men up front, Kandol and Beckford, who have been absolutely fantastic so far. But I can't count out a few of the players at the back, Rui Marques has been outstanding as well. We've had some good performances… Read more

94th Minute Winner

Oldham Athletic 0 Leeds United 1

Leeds recorded their eight win in nine league games courtesy of an Ian Westlake volley in the 94 minute. Westlake had only been on the field four minutes as a substitute for Alan Thompson when he hit a brilliant winner. After the game he took no credit for his strike but instead praised the spirit that is in the team at present and the fantastic supporters who sang all during the game and made the players feel like they were playing at Elland Road.

Leeds were without suspended in-form strike duo Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol but were able to call on a pair of quality replacements, courtesy of loan acquisitions Mark De Vries from Leicester City and former Oldham favourite Wayne Andrews. Both played the full 90 minutes and although only on loan for a month look a bargain pair for Wise. There were… Read more

Ref Bursts Leeds Bubble

Gillingham 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds appeared set for an eighth consecutive win as they opened the scoring through Seb Carole in the 28th minute. However match referee Danny McDermid then took over and the game decended into a siege for Wises men as they battled valiantly to keep out the Gills. First to go was Tresor Kandol for a second bookable offence as he clapped the referee for awarding a free five minutes before half time. Then Beckford was sent off in the 56min for a clumsey tackle which earned him a second yellow card. The Yorkshire club came close to holding on but Ian Cox equalised in the first minute of stoppage time for The Gills, something they scarcely deserved.

Dennis Wise will report Danny McDermid to the Football Association after claiming the referee swore it at him at the end of Leeds United's draw with Gillingham. Wise was… Read more

7 in a Row

Leeds United 2 Swansea City 0

Leeds stretched their magnificent winning run with a 2-0 victory over Swansea at Elland Road. Wises boys equalled the club record of the great Don Revie team of 72/73 when winning for the seventh consecutive game.

While Leeds had the better of things in the first half it took Jermaine Beckford to set them on their way, scoring his sixth goal of the season after 62 minutes. Five minutes later, David Prutton doubled the home side's advantage with a fine strike from distance.

Having eradicated their 15-point penalty, Leeds are now up to six points( 18th in League table)and out of the relegation places. A crowd of 29,467 was at Elland Road on Saturday the biggest crowd outside the Premier Division on Saturday and in fact bigger than two of the 5 Premiership games played. Looks like Wises boys are also putting bums on seats… Read more

Out of Relegation Zone

Bristol Rovers 0 Leeds United

Leeds reached positive points for the season after maintaining their 100 per cent record with a 3-0 victory at Bristol Rovers in front of the biggest ever crowd ( 11,883 ) at the Memorial Stadium. Indeed Rovers had'nt been beaten in their last 16 League 2 or 1 games streatching back to mid March so one can see that this was a fantastic performance by Wise's boys.

Jermaine Beckford gave Leeds the perfect start at Bristol when he thrust out a leg at the near post to divert a cross into the net after just nine minutes. Tresor Kandol then doubled the lead with his fifth goal of the season after 77 minutes before Beckford joined his strike partner on five goals by scoring a late third with a stunning overhead kick.

As Gus Poyet said after the match this win will give the boys… Read more

Goodbye Mr Finn

The club sends it's best wishes to John Finn who retired from his teaching position in St Flannans College after over 35 years service. Indeed John taught many of the club members during their years in Flannans and was highly respected as an Irish teacher by the thousands of pupils he met over the years.

Now that he has retired he'll be able to devote more time to his passions golf, drama and Leeds United. As a past captain of Ennis Golf Club John can spend more time getting his handicap down and enjoying the crack in the Seniors competations ranks. Also he'll be able to come on more trips with us to Elland Road and provide us with some of his famous party pieces. Best wishes for the future from all your friends at Ennislusc.

Best Start To Season Since 1972

Leeds United 2 Hartlepool 0

Leeds maintained their 100 per cent start to the season and have moved out of a negative points difference courtesy of a 2-0 win over Hartlepool.
Five successive victories has seen Dennis Wise's side erase the 15-point penalty they were handed by the Football League and they are now on zero. This is Leeds best start to a season since the season 72/73 when the great Don Revie was in charge.

Hartlepool who are going well themslves made life very difficult for a confident Leeds and included exLeeds striker Ian Moore in their line up. However goals from the head of Tresor Kandol ( his fourth of the season) on 20mins following a Frazier Richardson cross and on 50 mins from Jermaine Beckford who chipped the keeper after being put in the clear by Carole. Once again Leeds had the biggest crowd of the season at a… Read more

New Gear Ordered

The club has just put in a large order for rugby style shirts in the Leeds colours along with the Ennislusc crest on the front and LUFC on the sleeve. Also ordered are club jackets and I expect these will sell like hot cakes as they are of very good quality and look stylish.

It is expect that it will take 3/4 weeks for the order to be completed and it is proposed to have a night in Moroneys to sell the tops and jackets. They will be sold to members only who have their membership paid as the club is subsidizing them to a hefty tune. Don't be disappointed and get your order in now.

Leeds Continue Great Start To Season

Leeds United 1 Luton Town 0

Kevin Blackwell made a rerurn visit to Elland Road with his Luton team but went away disappointed as Wises men made it four in a row. Tresor Kandol's third goal of the season on 42mins following a cross from Jermaine Beckford was the difference at the end.

Wise will be very happy with the way his charges played particularly in the first half and the attendance of 26,856 was a tribute to those loyal Leeds supporters who sense that things are on the up at the club following five turbulent years.

However we are still on minus three points thanks to the League deducting 15 points from us at the start of the season but no team has made a runaway start so we are very much in the mix for promotion this season if we can keep this great run going.

Excellent Turnout for AGM

It was great to see a big turnout for our AGM last night and it proved to any doubters out there that Leeds fans are a hardy lot and true to their team. We also welcomed two new members to the club Craig Ryan and Anthony O Halloran. It was one of our best AGM's since the club was formed and many issues were debated not least wheather we would fly out of Shannon or go via Galway for our club trip in November.

It was decided on a show of hands that we would go to the Swindon game on 17th November and that it would be a two day trip. Thoughts of going via Shannon on a Saturday morning and flying into Galway on Sunday afternoon were tossed aside in favour of flying on Friday thus giving us a two nights stay in the Queens Hotel Leeds. Kevin Green… Read more

Three Out Of Three For Wises Boys

Nottingham Forest 1 Leeds United 2

In one of the biggest clashes ever to take place in the third tier of English football (att 25,876), Leeds took the lead through Congolese striker Tresor Kandol, who drilled the ball home after 17 minutes.

Just after half time Forest found their way back into the game and got their reward when Kris Commons 49th-minute free-kick swung into the goal from the right to level the scores and give the home side their first goal of the season.
However once again United left it late when a 89th-minute strike from close range from Jermaine Beckford was enough to secure all three points for Dennis Wise's side.

Leeds now sit on minus six points and Wise and the fans must be thrilled with the start to life in League 1. I know I am!
