Welsh Disaster

Swansea City 3 Leeds United 2

This was the first meeting between the sides since 1984 and Leeds marked to occassion by making a presentation to Mrs Glenda Charles wife of the late great John Charles before the game. Oh how Leeds wished they had a man of his stature and class in their ranks at this present time. It was yet another full house at the Liberty Stadium for the visit of Leeds and Swansea showed on 9 mins why they are top of the league when Andy Robinson converted a free from the edge of the box.

The lead lasted all of 3 mins when Beckford latched onto a long ball out of defence and gave De Vries no chance from the tightest of angles. However on 23 mins Swansea regained the lead when captain Garry Monks headed home a Paul Anderson corner. The game turned on it's head in… Read more

Another Late Goal

Hartlepool United 1 Leeds United 1

Jermaine Beckford struck an injury-time equaliser as Leeds claimed a late 1-1 draw at Hartlepool. The home side dominated the opening exchanges at Victoria Park and took a deserved lead in the 21st minute. Former Whites full-back Robbie Elliott's free-kick was planted home at the far post by defender Michael Nelson.

The home side could have put the game beyond doubt early in the second half when Ian Moore another ex Leeds player was clean through but Kasper Ankergren made a fine save. The late-goal specialists then lived up to their name when Beckford tucked home past Jan Budtz for a share of the spoils and put Leeds top of the table even if for only a few hours.

Third For Christmas

Leeds United 1 Bristol Rovers 0

Leeds completed the double over Rovers this season courtesy of a 84 min og from Steve Elliott and moved to third in the table despite not being at their best. Wise made three changes from the Walsall game with Alan Thompson, Tresor Kandol and Jonny Hewson coming in for the injured Jonathan Douglas with Leon Constantine and Radostin Kishishev dropping to the bench.

In a game of few chances the goal came as so often is the case this season with Leeds in the closing minutes. A cross from Alan Thompson was flicked on by Seb Carole and with Jonny Hewson ready to pounce the ball took a deflection off defender Elliott and end up in the net much to the relief of the home crowd in an attendance of 27,863.

This was the ideal start to the festive campaign for Wise and he'll be hoping to… Read more

Out Of Jail Once Again

Walsall 1 Leeds United 1

For the fifth time this season Leeds left it until injury time to conjure up a goal. On this occassion it came in the 92 minute from a Alan Thompson free kick although Ian Westlake is claiming that he got the final touch. Not that this will worry Denis Wise as his side battled all day against a resolute Walsall team who indeed will consider themselves unlucky not to come away with all three points. Indeed Tommy Mooney the ex Birmingham City striker had an effort ruled out for offside in the first half but he made amends in the 75 min following a goal mouth scramble after Walsall had been awarded a corner.

This sparked Wise into making a double substitution with Thompson and Hewson coming on for Kishishev and Prutton. And it was this change that led to Leeds getting a grip in midfield and… Read more

Derby Delight

Leeds United 4 Huddesfield Town 0

In front of their biggest crowd of the season and the biggest in the Division 1 since 1979, Leeds recorded an emphatic victory over local rivals The Trotters from Huddesfield. Two wins in five days and no goals conceded is a great start to the December programme of games for Dennis Wises and the boys.

Jonathon Douglas opened the scoring for Leeds in the 24th minute and Jermaine Beckford then celebrated his birthday in style with two goals, netting after 49 and 69 minutes. Tore Andre Flo who came off the bench on 83 mins for Jermaine Beckford completed the rout with a fourth goal three minutes from time.

Leeds are now up to fourth in the table and are keeping the pressure up on Forest and Swansea City. Our very own Kevin Green and Bob Vincent were over for todays game ( flew from Shannon… Read more

Back On Track

Leeds United 3 Port Vale 0

After losing three of their last five games all be it only one was in the League vs Cheltenham ,Leeds got back to winning ways with a comprehensive win over lowely Port Vale. Midfielder Dave Prutton opened the scoring on 18 mins with Jermaine Beckford adding a second on 55 mins. However Beckford was to limp off on 67 mins with a shin injury which hopefully will not keep him out of the big derby game vs Huddesfield Town on Saturday.

His replacement Tore Andre Flo scored the third on 83 mins and was given a standing ovation by the crowd. Indeed Flo has a remarkable record for Leeds as he's played only 260 mins of football for the club due to injury and this was his third goal and all were scored at Elland Road. Hopefully he can remain injury free for the rest of… Read more

Happy Days James

Our fellow member James O Neill is basking in glory today as his other favourite team just captured the FAI Cup. James who is a season ticket holder with Cork City was at the RDS in Dublin yesterday to see Denis Behan score with a diving header to deny Longford Town a third cup victory in five seasons. Well I suppose James it could be another lifetime before Leeds contest a Cup Final so congratulations from all your friends at Ennislusc and saviour the victory.

Welcome Lads

It's not every supporters club that can say they are growing in numbers after being relegated twice in three seasons but that is what's happening at Ennislusc. Today we welcome on board John Mulcahy from Portdrine in Cratloe and Gerard O Brien from Shannon. Both are avid Leeds fans and it's thanks to our Basil that they signed up as he had told them how the club operates and the friiendship of all involved.

Indeed on signing up the lads purchased polo tops and jackets so they mean business. Hopefully we'll see on some trips in the furure.Great to have ye in the club lads. Marching On Together to The Championship.

Rock Bottom Team K.O. Leeds

Cheltenham Town 1 Leeds United 0

Playing a team for the first time ever in league football, one which presently lies at the bottom of the table and having 21 shots on goal over the 90 minutes one would expect an easy victory for Leeds but alas that was not the case. In fact Cheltenham to their credit hit Leeds a sucker punch on 85 mins when a headed clearance by stand in keeper David Lucas fell to the feet of Steven Gillespie who promptly lobbed the keeper from 25 yards.

Indeed Leeds had a goal disallowed on 64 mins when a Jonathan Douglas free kick was parried by keeper Higgs and Kandol headed the rebound home but was harshly flagged for offside. So Leeds suffered their third defeat in their five games since Gus Poyet left the club for Spurs and one wonders the effect this has had on the… Read more

Another Mighty Trip

Leeds United 2 Swindon Town 1

We keep saying how can these trips get any better but each one take a life of it's own and not for the first time we had a mega weekend in Yorkshire. Once again we were blessed with fantastic weather in Leeds while here at home there was torrential rain and of course we got a win to cap a great weekend.

Having landed in Liverpool after an event free not to mention stress free journey from Shannon we were met by our bus driver Rob who turned out to be the salt of the earth type. As our squad find it hard to endure a two hour coach trip we broke the trip in a town called Midelton ( no, not the one in Cork) for a few refreshments. The proprietors of the Gardners Arms made us feel at home and indeed shook our hand… Read more

We're Off

Tomorrow morning at 8am we'll leave the West County in Ennis for the first leg of our journey to Elland Road for the Swindon game. At the last count we have 25 on board for the trip and unlike other years we are staying in Bewleys on this occassion. Naturally we'll call to Paul and Angie in the newley refurbished Prince Of Wales and for the first time in quite a while Mike MacNamara will make the trip.

As it was Mike and Slim Corry who introduced the club to the Prince of Wales bar where we have since forged great friendships with all the staff there I'm sure the crack will be as good as always. Marching on Together.

Welcome To The Club Shane

It's great to welcome new member Shane Hayes from Loughville in Ennis to the club. A lifelong Leeds supporter it was Shane's good friend and present member Paul Phelan who introduced him to Ennislusc.

Unfortunately Shane does'nt move out that often due to an accident some years ago in America but he follows Leeds with the same passion as his fellow colleagues in the club. He is now the proud owner of one of the new Leeds jackets so all on sundry will know where his loyalties lie now. Great to have another loyal White on board Shane.

Lucky Escape in FA Cup

Hereford United 0 Leeds United 0

With the game live on Sky Sports nearly 30 members turned up at Moroneys Bar to see Leeds hold out for a goalless draw with a spirited Hereford side in the first round of the FA Cup.Indeed if the truth be told Wise and his boys can consier themselves very luck to still be in the Cup as on chances Hereford should have one this game against a very disappointing Leeds side.

Hereford, currently second in League Two, made life difficult for Leeds from the start and were perhaps unlucky to see a penalty appeal waved away in only the second minute when Matt Heath barged into Trevor Benjamin. There were few other chances in a tight first half as Leeds began to enjoy the majority of possession, although Ben Smith struck a shot just wide from distance for Hereford.

The Bulls continued to carve… Read more

Unbeaten Run Ends

Carlisle 3 Leeds United 1

With new assistant manager Dave Bassett joining Dennis Wise on the sidelines at Brunton Park in front of Carlisle's biggest home crowd since 1976 (16,668) Leeds were hoping to extend their unbeaten run but alas it came crashing down in the second half. It was Leeds who started much the better side with Seb Carole heading over and Jonathan Douglas bringing a terrific save from Westwood on 11 minutes. On 28 mins Leeds took a deserved lead when a Douglas shot was only half cleared and Beckford tapped home for his eight goal of the season. In stoppage time both Beckford and David Prutton went close for Leeds who ended the half well in command.

Leeds also started the second half brightly when Carole shot straight at Westwood after being set up by Beckford. However on 61 mins disaster struck when Simon Hackney hit a screamer from… Read more

Moving On Up

Leeds United 4 Millwall 2

As the song by M People goes Moving On Up and that's just what Wises Boys did today after their victory over Millwall at Elland Road in front of their biggest crowd of the season 30,319. Leeds are now up to 6th in the table an amazing feat and unbeaten in 13 league games which is a credit to all concerned.

After a quiet opening 37 minutes during which Millwall had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside it was Leeds who broke the deadlock when David Prutton struck a precise half-volley past Lenny Pidgeley in the Millwall goal. Pidgeley was then responsible for Leeds second goal when he made a hash of a clearance on 53 minutes and the ball eventually fell to Jermaine Beckford to finish with ease.

Jonathan Douglas scored his first goals of the season on 57 and… Read more

One ForThe Future

When Margaret Murphy from Parnell Street Ennis walked in one day to Murphys Shoe Repair Shop in Cronins Yard Upper Market Street Ennis little did Johnny Murphy an avid Leeds fan and member of Ennislusc know what was to come next. During the conversation about what repairs were to be carried out on her shoes Margaret noticed a pennant of Leeds United hanging in the background. She then asked Johnny if he was a fan and on finding out that he was she told him that her grandson Finn Coughlan who hails from York and is eight years of age goes to the Leeds Academy for training twice a week.

Stunned by this Johnny told her about our club, how we travel over twice a year for games, the website address and the gear that we recently purchased. Straight away Margaret asked about the possibility of purchasing a top for Finn… Read more

Is Poyet On Way Out ?

When Martin Joel walked away from his job as manager of Spurs yesterday evening little did we know the effect this could have on our beloved Leeds. Hardly was Jol gone when news filtered through the Spurs were looking for Poyet as assistant manager to their yet to be announced new manager.

Although Leeds released a statement straight away, Gus has been advised not to attend tomorrows home game vs Millwall to allow the players focus on the game and Alan Thompson who is presently injured will take his place on the bench alongside Dennis Wise. This seems to be a clear statement that there is no smoke without fire and give that Spurs are a big Premiership team it's only natural that Poyet would want to join them given the opportunity.

Gus would be a tremendous loss to the club as tomorrow Wise and himself celebrate a year with the club… Read more
