Kewell Joins Galatasaray

HARRY Kewell has written an open letter to furious Leeds United fans in a desperate attempt to quell their anger over his move to Turkish club Galatasaray. The Socceroos star, who spent nine years at Leeds, revealed late last week he had signed with Istanbul-based Galatasaray fortwo years after his contract at Liverpool expired in May.

And although he explained over the weekend why he had made the move, many Leeds supporters still remember that two fans, Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, were stabbed to death by Turkishhooligans on the eve of the UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray in 2000.Kewell played in that match which went ahead despite the tragedy, Leeds losing 2-0. Deaths among fighting fans are not uncommon and banners proclaiming "Welcome To Hell" add to the intimidating atmosphere at Galatasaray's Al Sami Yen Stadium.

Today, Kewell insisted he maintained strong feelings towards Leeds and said he had… Read more

No Happy Ending To Season

Play Off Final Wmbley Sun 25th May

Leeds United 0 Doncaster Rovers 1

Five years ago Doncaster Rovers were in the Conference. Next season they will start the campaign in the Championship after James Hayter's second half diving header saw off Leeds United in the League One play-off final. This was Doncaster third promotion in five years and bring Championship football back to the club for the first time since 1957.

Sean O'Driscoll's side have played some entertaining and incisive football all season and again at Wembley their style of play was easy on the eye as Leeds struggled to conjure chances of their own and in the end fully deserved their victory. McAllister men had few chances on goal over the ninety minutes and even when they created chances they found their ex keeper Neil Sullivan in top form for Doncaster. Indeed it looks like Dennis Wise made a bad mistake in… Read more

Welcome Finbarr

Even in defeat on Sunday last we welcome a new member to the club, Finbarr Power from Shannon. Finbarr watched the game in Moroneys with his friend Ger O Brien and was amazed to see so many Leeds supporters gathered to shout on McAllister boys. Indeed highlight of the evening for Finbarr and Ger was seeing Basil do his own version of Sweet Home Alabama standing on the seat and belting out the song. Some sight guys! Welcome to the club Finbarr and hope to see you on one of our trips next season.

Marching On Wembley

Well our season has come down to just one game to win promotion back to the Championship after a roller coaster season in League 1. Doncaster Rover will be opposition on Sunday when Gary McAllister boys take to the famous pitch that is Wembley Stadium. Leeds have sold their full allocation of tickets so one can expect to hear Marching On Together blasting out on Sunday come the 3pm kick off.

Unfortunately we have'nt won a Wembley on our last three appearances except for a penalty shot out win vs Liverpool in the Charity Shield in the season 92/93. Since then Aston Villa beat us 3-0 in the League Final and two seasons ago we were beaten in the Championship play off final in Cardiff ( Wembley was closed while building the new stadium) when Watford beat us on a 3-0 scoreline also. The tide has to turn so hopefully… Read more

Congratulations to Gearoid (Mannix) Mannion our esteem PRO and his wife Michelle on the birth of the lovely new son Conor Tomas Mannion. Little Conor entered the world at 00.06am on May 14th last and weighed in at 8 lbs 8 oz so he's well on the way passing out his Dad in the height stakes. It's obvious he's going to be a Leeds supporter so lets hope he'll see the good times return to Elland Road.

All of Gearoid's friends at Ennislusc wish the happy couple and baby Conor long life, health and happiness in the years to come. Mannix you can sing him Marching On Together as his lullaby at night !

We Are Off To Wembley

Carlisle 0 Leeds United 2

A last-gasp Jonny Howson goal saw Leeds advance into the League One play-off final following a 2-0 victory over Carlisle at Brunton Park in front of a crowd of 12,872. Gary McAllister's side were 2-1 down from Monday's first leg at Elland Road, but Howson opened the scoring in the 10th minute with an effort into the left corner from a Dougie Freedman cross.

Leeds then had numerous efforts to win the game, including a Bradley Johnson header against the post late on, while Carlisle also had their chances. Howson's double completed a surprise turnaround for McAllister's men, who had been outplayed in the first leg. Leeds now head back for their second play-off final in two years and a chance to erase the memory of their defeat to Watford at the Millennium Stadium in 2006.

96 minute Goal Gives Us A Chance

Leeds United 1 Carlisle 2

An injury-time strike from Dougie Freedman rescued hope for Leeds in a 2-1 League One play-off semi-final first leg defeat to Carlisle at Elland Road. Goals either side of half-time from Danny Graham and Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and a string of fine saves from Carlisle goalkeeper Kieran Westwood ( who derervedly got the Man of the Match award) appeared to be sending John Ward's side home with a comfortable victory.
But veteran Freedman pounced in the 96th minute to set up a tense second leg at Brunton Park on Thursday.

The goal so late in the game will have given Leeds tremendous confidence for the second leg because at 2-0 down one would have a mountain to climb against a well organised Carlisle side. Now lets get in and at them from the start and get that place at Wembley.

Good End To Season For The Boys

Leeds United 2 Gillingham 1

Two second half goals coupled with Southend\'s draw at home to Port Vale gave Gary McAllister boys fifth spot and a play off tie with Carlisle.
Gillingham fot their part endured a heartbreaking afternoon at Elland Road after relinquishing a 1-0 lead to lose 2-1 in West Yorkshire. Even a win would not have been enough for Mark Stimson\'s men who now prepare for a return to League Two. Simeon Jackson gave the Gills a dream start in the 20th minute after seizing on an error from Whites defender Paul Huntingdon to put the visitors 1-0 ahead.

Substitute Seb Carroll made an immediate impact as he set up Bradley Johnson who spectacularly volleyed the ball past Derek Stillie to level the scores. The final nail in the coffin came in the 88th minute when Tresor Kandol notched his 11th goal of the season to seal Gillingham\'s… Read more

It's Carlise in Play Offs

It's now down to the lottery of the play offs for Leeds but after starting the season on minus fifteen points who would'nt be delighted to be in this position. By finishing fifth in the table we have been drawn against Carlisle United at home first on Monday 12th May with a kick off time of 7.45pm. On Thursday 15th May all roads will lead to Brunton Park for the second leg where Leeds will hope to progress to a Wembley play off final appearance.

Both games are live on Sky Sports so it's hope that all our members will be in Moroneys to shout the boys on on both nights.Look forward to seeing you there. Marching On Together.

Leeds Appeal On Points Deduction Fails

Leeds United will have to win promotion via the League One play-offs after losing an appeal against their 15 points deduction. The decision iwill be welcomed by the likes of Doncaster Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Carlisle United who now all remain in with a chance of gaining the second automatic promotion place. Had Leeds won back the 15 points they were deducted at the start of the campaign for breaking insolvency rules then Gary McAllister's side would have guaranteed promotion back to the Championship.

Leeds have now confirmed the matter is now closed allowing everyone at the club to look forward with the hope of gaining promotion via Wembley way. "The three man arbitration panel appointed by The Football Association in respect of the above mentioned appeal has rejected Leeds United's arguments that the 15 point deduction was unlawful," read a statement on the club's official website.

Well now it's… Read more

Play Off Place Secured

Yeovil Town 0 Leeds United 1

Gar McAllister boys confirmed their spot in the League One play-offs after holding on for a 1-0 win at Huish Park. On-loan Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman scored the game's only goal after just four minutes but Leeds played the final 25 minutes with 10 men after Alan Sheehan was sent off.

Leeds started brightly and were quickly in front when Freedman steered the ball home from close range after Bradley Johnson had kept alive Frazer Richardson's cross. Freedman, who was taking his tally to five goals in 11 games since joining from Crystal Palace, almost added another, but he was unable to get on the end of Anthony Elding's cross from the right.

Yeovil gradually grew into the contest and came close to equalising when Marvin Williams turned the ball wide after his initial attempt had been saved by Casper Ankergren. The Leeds keeper… Read more

Get Well Frankie

Great Ennislusc supporter and good friend Frankie Woods has been in the Limerick Regional Hospital for the past week undergoing tests and unfortunately due to the winter flu bug visitors are not allowed enter the hospital. Hopefully the fact that Leeds are in the play off places with three games to go will help Frankie in his recover to full health. Frank's dad Jamesie is also in hospital in the Ennis and all at Ennislusc wish them both a speedy recovery.

Douglas Off As Leeds Falter

Huddesfield Town 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds missed the chance to all-but seal their place in the League One play-offs after they lost their West Yorkshire derby clash with Huddersfield Town at Galpharm Stadium. Both sides were reduced to 10 men before Town grabbed a late winner through Andy Holsworth.

The first red came on 35 minutes when Jonathan Douglas was red carded for his second bookable offence as he brought down Jonathon Worthington less than five minutes after his first booking. One may put this down to rustyness after being out through injury for three months but one would expect the Irish International to know better expecially being on a yellow. Just before the break and the numbers were evened up when Worthington saw red for his challenge on Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren and the ensuing melee. This was also his second bookable offence.

In a game of few clear chances… Read more

Great Comeback

Leeds United 3 Carlisle 2

Leeds on-loan striker Dougie Freedman struck twice to dent Carlisle United's hopes of automatic promotion and put Garry McAllisters boys on course for a play off place. The veteran scored a 69th-minute winner after earlier hauling Leeds back into the game following Scott Dobie's first-half opener.

The day had started well for the visitors who dersevedly went in front when Dobie scored from close range following good work on the left by Simon Hackney. Freedman put the home side back on level terms five minutes after the break before Jonathan Howson fired them into the lead. Danny Graham levelled just a minute later, on the hour mark, before Freedman became the toast of the Elland Road faithful as he struck a winner. Leeds are now four points ahead of Walsall and a better goal difference so barring any mishaps in the remaining games 6th place looks… Read more
