Seven In A Row At Home

Leeds United 1 Swindon Town 0

Leeds left it late to equal a club record of seven home wins in a row ( last achieved by Dave O Leary's team in the 1999/2000 season) when Beckford scored with a header in the 87th minute.
This was Beckford's 29th goal of the season but in the 94th minute he was sent off for dissent which will see him suspended for the game away to Crewe.

While it was great to get the three points this was far from a vintage display by Grayson's men.
Swindon keeper Phil Smith saved well from Robert Snodgrass, while Beckford also saw a header cleared off the line. Beckford finally made the breakthrough when he headed in at the far post and it was enough for the win, though he was later sent off for two bookings.

Away Day Blues Again

Bristol Rovers 2 Leeds United 2

Bristol Rovers striker Jo Kuffour's last-minute goal earned his side a draw and ensured Leeds' two-month wait without an away win continues.
Rovers' Jeff Hughes smashed in a David Pipe cross on 14 minutes to open the scoring before Luciano Becchio headed his second goal in a week to level for Leeds just before the half hour .

The provider of Becchio's goal, Robert Snodgrass, curled in a sublime finish from 25 yards to put United ahead. With injury time nearly up it looked like Leeds would hold out for the three points but Kuffour had the last laugh in the final minute when he latched onto a ball over the top and hammered in the equaliser.

Bristol Rovers: Phillips, Ryan Green, Anthony, Elliott, Lescott (Jacobson 65), Pipe, Lines (Disley 73), Campbell, Hughes (Kuffour 63), Lambert, Duffy.
Subs Not Used: St Louis-Hamilton, Hinton.

Becks Hatrick Seals Impressive Win

Leeds United 4 Yeovil Town 0

Jermaine Beckford scored his third hat-trick of the season as Leeds romped to victory against a lacklustre Yeovil and are now bak in the play offs spots once again.

Beckford stuck out a boot to divert a Ben Parker cross in for his first before Neil Kilkenny lobbed Yeovil keeper Josh Wagenaar from 30 yards.
Kilkenny set up Beckford for his second and then Jonny Howson released the striker to complete his hat-trick.

Leeds Luciano Becchio was brought down for a penalty but the striker who was seeking to score in his third consecutive game fired the resulting spot-kick over the bar. It is Leeds home form that is keeping them in with a chance of a play off spot and if they can rectify their away form they will be a side to be reckoned with come play off time.

Leeds Coaches In Ennis Thanks To Avenue

On Friday 27th of March at 9pm in Moroney's Avenue United will hold their 200 Club Draw. There to make the draw on the night will be Leeds United football coaches ( Terence Potter Chief Academy Scout, Christopher Coates Under 12 Academy Coach, Philip Wilson Under 16 Academy Coach and Denis Oates Under 14 Academy Coach) who are in town for the weekend as guest of Avenue and will be holding coaching sessions in Lees Road on Saturday and Sunday.

Given that Moroney's is home to the Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club it's ironic that over twenty five club members will be in Elland Road on that weekend for the clash of Leeds and the MKDons. However Ennislusc will be well represented on the night and it's hoped to make a presentation to the coaches on behalf of the supporters club. Ennislusc and Moroney's are also sponsoring the Avenue Utd… Read more

Good Away Point

Oldham Athletic 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds ended their run of three straight away defeats when Luciano Becchio brilliant header salvaged a point at Boundary Park. Oldham took the lead on 51 minutes when Lee Hughes seized on a loose ball and volleyed home through the legs of Casper Ankergren from a tight angle.

But the visitors were level two minutes later when Becchio was left unmarked at a corner and headed in from six yards. Leeds had a chance to win it near the end but goalkeeper Greg Fleming did well to keep out Fabian Delph's shot after a flowing move.

For those watching the match on Sky Sports it came as a surprise to see the Oldham kit but in reality they wore a special pink strip to raise awareness for the Victoria Breast Unit at Royal Oldham Hospital.

Back In Top Six

Leeds United 3 Scunthorpe United 2

The presence of Leeds United's top score this season Jermaine Beckford was a major factor in The Whites securing all three points against fellow top six contenders Scunthorpe at Elland Road.

Jermaine Beckford opened the scoring against his old club from Jonny Howson's cross, before Bradley Johnson saw his deflected shot make it 2-0. However Gary Hooper capitalised on some poor defending to pull one back, before he ran through unchallenged to level.

Beckford hammered in from 12 yards to win it before Leeds had Howson sent off for two bookable offences in the 80 minute ans so misses the televised game on Monday night away to Oldham.

Leeds: Ankergren, Douglas, Marques, Naylor, Parker, Kilkenny (Trundle 56), Howson, Delph, Snodgrass, Beckford, Robinson (Johnson 15), Trundle (Michalik 88).
Subs Not Used: Lucas, Grella.

Sent Off: Howson (80).

Live On Sky Monday Night

On Monday night next Leeds are away to fourth in the table Oldham Athletic in what is being billed as one of the most important games of the season. Currently Oldham are three points ahead of Leeds but importantly have one more game played.

Hopefully on Monday night Simon Grayson's boys can put their poor away form behind them and tighten their grip on a top six finish. As always we'll be meeting in Moroney's where we will discuss details of our trip for the MKDons game at the end of March. See you there.

Humbled By Hereford

Hereford United 2 Leeds United 0

It's getting to the stage that this Leeds team can only play at home as on theit travels they do not seem to be able to gain points. On this occassion Lee Trundle's poor penalty kick was easily save by Man of the Match, Hungarian keeper Peter Gulasci who dived to his right and palmed it out for a corner.

Hereford boosted their survival hopes with a deserved victory against play-off hunting Leeds.
Bulls winger Jennison Myrie-Williams raced into the area before beating goalkeeper Casper Ankergren with a low shot for the first goal.
The hosts doubled their lead when Febian Brandy flicked the ball into the net from a header by Godwin Antwi.

Yet another disappointing night for Simon Grayson's boys and if things don't change quickly it looks like League 1 football will be our lot once again next season.

Hereford: Gulacsi, Jackson, Rose, Antwi… Read more

Another Away Day Blues

Huddersfield Town 1 Leeds United 0

A first-half goal from Nathan Clarke was enough to help Huddersfield see off local rivals Leeds for the second time this season. Indeed on the last occassion it was on Ennislusc first trip of the season that we went down to an injury time winner. Town scored when Clarke rose unmarked to nod home Gary Roberts' corner after 16 minutes to grab his third of the season.

Leeds battled back immediately with lively winger Andy Robinson forcing Alex Smithies into a fingertip save. Leeds dominated the second half as Robert Snodgrass' drive was well-saved and skipper Richard Naylor headed against the post in the final minutes. As has been a common feature of Leeds away games this season we had all the possession, the keeper gets the Man Of The Match Award and we go home pointless ! It need to stop and quickly.

Beckford's Super Strikes

Leeds United 2 Millwall 0

Jermaine Beckford scored a goal in each half as Leeds defeated Millwall to boost their League One promotion hopes. One very happy man on the night was our secretary Paul Nihill who had Leeds backed to win 2-0 and Beckford to score first in the live televised game. Once again we had a great turnout fot the game and it was great for morale to eke out a merited win.

Millwall had the best chance early on when Gary Alexander's header was saved on the goal-line by a out stretched Casper Ankergren. But Beckford opened the scoring when he cut into the penalty box and curled a sublime left-footed shot into the top corner to cap a fine Leeds move.

Becks wrapped up the win in injury time shooting past David Forde after a great flick-on from Luciano Becchio.

New Trip Date

The second trip of the season for Ennislusc will now be to the MKDons game on Saturday 28th March and not the Tranmere game on 18th April as our Ryanair route to Newcastle will cease on the 31st March. Also with the new goverment taxi of €10 per departure due to come into operation on 1st April it will turn out as a small saveing for members.

However the main reason for change is that our route options going forward are limited as Liverpool and Manchester are our only viable options but the times at present make it difficult to plan large trips such as ours. Also if United or The Pool are at home these flights are usually booked out or otherwise too expensive. Going forward this will be a major stumbleing block for the club unless we go back to flying out of Dublin something which we are not… Read more

Bubble Burst

Walsall 1 Leeds United 0

After three successive league wins the streak came to an abrupt halt with yet another very poor away performance. Lucky for Leeds two late goals from Crewe to beat Tranmere means that The Whites still stay in 7th position. Troy Deeney got the game's only goal as Walsall stunned promotion-chasers Leeds with a deserved victory.

The Saddlers had gone four games without a win, but they set about the visitors right from the start and took the lead in just the seventh minute. Sofiene Zaaboub delivered a great cross into the goalmouth where Troy Deeney headed his third goal in as many games. Leeds's Jonathan Douglas and Luciano Becchio had decent efforts, but Walsall dug in to delight the home fans.

Walsall: Ince, Palmer, Weston, Gerrard, Boertien, Nicholls (Williams 79), Mattis, Taundry, Zaaboub, Ibehre (Sansara 90), Deeney.

Three In A row

Leeds United 2 Southend Utd 0

It's three league wins in a row for new boss Simon Grayson and never were they so needed as all our nearest rivals failed to drop points and we are 7th in the table, three points off a play off place. Rui Marques and Richard Naylor headers were enough to give Leeds victory over Southend and extend their winning run to three games.

Angola international Marques climbed to nod home Bradley Johnson's sixth minute corner for his first of the season. Shortly afterwards, Johnson took a short corner to Andy Robinson and his cross was headed in by Naylor. Theo Robinson came closest for the visitors with a powerful drive that flashed inches wide.

Leeds: Ankergren, Hughes, Marques, Naylor, Dickinson, Robinson (Snodgrass 69), Delph, Douglas, Johnson, Trundle (Howson 73), Beckford (Becchio 84).
Subs Not Used: Lucas, Michalik.

Leeds Gain Revenge

Leeds United 3 Peterborough Utd 1

Haveing failed to beat The Posh earlier in the season Leeds gained sweet revenge at Ellan Road thanjs to two goals from a fit again Jermaine Beckford. Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren twice denied George Boyd and Posh stopper Joe Lewis twice thwarted Andy Robinson.

Substitute Beckford struck with a rebound after Lewis parried Bradley Johnson's free-kick and then deceived Craig Morgan before shooting home.
Craig Mackail-Smith pulled a goal back after Boyd hit the post before Jonny Howson scored in injury time.

New Signings Shine

Brighton 0 Leeds United 2

The three new loan signings by Simon Grayson of Lee Trundle, Carl Robinson and Richard Naylor contributed to a great away day for Leeds at the Withdean Stadium against The Seagulls. At last Leeds have kept a clean sheet at the back and fans are already calling Naylor the next Vinny Jones.

Pity is he's on loan from Ipsich until the 19th of Februrary so it's imperative that we sign him on until the end of the season if he produces performances like last Saturday. He's already played 25 games for Ipswich this season so the surprise is that they let him out on loan at all.
Trundle was as busy as a bee on the wing and Robinson looked a cool customer when he replaced Richardson eith just over 2o minutes remaining.

Second-half goals from Lee Trundle and Fabian Delph ensured victory for Leeds at Brighton.

Another Horror Show

Leeds United 0 Carlisle 2

New boss Simon Grayson ( ex Blackpool manager) has his work cut out if Leeds are to qualify for a top six play off place. Then now find themselves six points off 6th place and currently lie 10th in the table. Former Leeds players Danny Graham and Michael Bridges scored as Carlisle secured a deserved win at Elland Road. Graham, who was on loan at Leeds in 2006, swept in Cleveland Taylor's cross from close range to put Carlisle ahead.

Then, a mix-up between Leeds keeper Casper Ankergren and defender Lubo Michalik (once again ) allowed Graham to play Bridges through to score from a narrow angle. Fabian Delph had a penalty shout waved away while Luciano Becchio hit a post after the break as Leeds toiled.

Leeds: Ankergren, Richardson, Marques, Michalik, Sheehan (Johnson 56), Hughes (Robinson 62), Douglas, Delph, Snodgrass, Christie (Trundle 56), Becchio.
