It's Now Or Never

On Saturday next Leeds travel to The New Den to play Millwall in the 1st leg of the League 1 play off semi final. This is Leed's third play off semi final in three seasons but as you all know we have failed at the final hurdle to Watford and Doncaster again last season. Will this season be our time to go up I hear you say ?

Well we are playing very well for the last eight weeks and we have great depth in the squad now. For me it has to be this season otherwise we will lose the likes of Delph, Beckford and possibly Becchio and with the likes of Southampton, Charlton and Norwich comeing down promotion will be very difficult.

It will be an early start for Leeds fans on Saturday as the game is on Sky at 12.45 with the 2nd leg at Elland Road on Thursady… Read more

Now Let's Go For Promotion

Leeds United 3 Northampton 0

While Leeds fans celebrated with the play offs looming the travelling Northampton fans in the biggest home crowd of the season were devestated as their favourites were relegated from League 1.
Luciano Becchio nodded Leeds in front from Ben Parker's cross before Luke Guttridge and ex Leeds player Leon Constantine went close for The Cobblers. But Jermaine Beckford netted his 34th goal of the season in the bottom left-hand corner on the hour.

And substitute Robert Snodgrass who has been absent for the last three games added the third with an injury-time volley.
Leeds will visit Millwall in the play-off semi-final first leg on Saturday 9 May with KO at 12.45pm, with the home leg on Thursday 14 May with KO 19.45.

Leeds: Ankergren, Douglas, Naylor, Marques, Parker (Richardson 67), Robinson, Howson, Kilkenny (Snodgrass 57), Delph, Beckford (Grella 77), Becchio.

Play Off Dates

Next Sat 9th May Leeds will visit The New Den for the 1st leg of the play offs and hopefully can bring an advantage back to Elland Road. The 2nd leg is down for Thursday 14th May with KO at 19.45 and it is expected there will be a full house for this fixture.

All Leeds fans hope it will be third time lucky for The Whites in the play offs with the MKDons and Scunthorpe fighting out the other semi final. The final is down for Sunday 24th May with KO at 13.00 at Wembley but first we must earn the right to be there. Marching On Together

Welcome Shane

Yes we have another new member from the famed parish of county football champions Kilmurray Ibrickane. Our youngest member is Shane Cahill ( another generation of the famed footballing Cahill's) and he is a nephew of Ennislusc stalwart Pat Basil Whelan. As you will see in the picture gallery (under Youngest Member) he is togged out in the Leeds United kit but one suspect's there is a Kilmurry strip in the closet also. Welcome aboard Shane.

33rd Goal For Beckford Not Out

Hartlepool United 0 Leeds United 1

Leeds were without the suspended Fabian Delph and the injured Robert Snodgrass (ankle)but did enought to earn a merited three points and continue their recent good run with the play offs in sight. Jermaine Beckford scored his 33nd goal of the season after an hour, turning well on Ben Parker's cross before slotting home into the bottom corner.

The goal was deserved after Bradley Johnson hit the bar with a powerful free-kick and Sam Sodje found the angle of the bar and post with a header. Pools had limited chances, Joel Porter forcing a save from Casper Ankergren. Now with one home game to go lets hope we go out with a bang next weekend at home to Northampton which will give us confidence for the dreaded plays offs for the third season running.

Hartlepool: Budtz, Liddle, Nelson (Robson 90), Collins, Skarz, Jones (Humphreys 72), Clark,… Read more

Play Offs Here We Come

Leeds United 3 Tranmere Rovers 1

Leeds all but secured their play off play with a well merited win over a dogged Tranmere who in the past have been a bogey team to The Whites. Tranmere are still in 6th position with Scunthorpe who have two games in hand hot on their tails in 7th and they meet on the last day of the season. But back to Leeds and that man of the season Becks. He swapped passes with Robert Snodgrass before finishing coolly for his 32nd goal of the season.

Neil Kilkenny, looking suspiciously offside, latched on to a long pass from Jonathan Douglas to fire home the second on 26 minutes but then disaster struck. A minute later Leeds defender Sam Sodje headed into his own net following a mix up with Casper over who was claiming the cross. However early in the second half Leeds nerves were… Read more

Rough Justice

Leicester City 1 Leeds United 0

Steve Howard's 92nd minute injury-time header sunk play-off chasing Leeds United and took Leicester to the brink of automatic promotion from League One. The Whites deserved a least a point from the game and they can feel agrieved that the corner from which the goal was scored was allowed. They felt that Sam Snodje was pushed by Howard before the corner was allowed and action reply showed this to be the case but as they say that's football for you.

Howard powered in Max-Alain Gradel's corner, and two points from their final three matches will ensure promotion. Andy King and Howard went close early on while Leeds almost led when a poor punch by David Stockdale hit the bar.

The Foxes were on top after the break and Matt Fryatt and Howard could have won it before Howard's superb header. Both sides threatened from set-pieces in… Read more

Delph and Beckford Win Awards

What a night it was for Fabian Delph on Tuesday evening when he scooped three awards at the Leeds United Players Awards night. Fabian won Goal of the Season for his strike in the 3-0 home win vs Brighton, Young Player Of The Year Award and Players Player of the Year Award to complete a famous hat trick for the 19 year old starlet.

However it was that man Jermaine Beckford who with three league games to go has bagged 31 league goals in 31 appearances that won him the Player of The Year Award. He has been out injured for the last three league games but hopefully will make an appearance vs Tranmere in a must not lose game at Elland Road on Saturday. Congratulations to both players on their well deserved awards.

Nine In A Row

Leeds United 1 Stockport County 0

Leeds equalled Howard Wilkinson's record of nine home wins in a row which his famous side achieved in the 1989/90 season. Jonny Howson ninth minute strike gave Leeds a deserved victory despite the absence of top scorer Jermaine Beckford. Following Friday night's results Leeds have closed the gap on both Millwall and the MKDons.

Stockport goalkeeper Conrad Logan, on loan from Leicester, stayed on his line as Jonathan Douglas's cross was stabbed home by Howson. On loan striker Liam Dickinson then had a chance to increase the lead but shot against the bar.

Substitute Andy Robinson hit the bar for Leeds late on as they consigned County to a fifth game without a goal. Man of the match once again for Leeds was Ian Snodgrass who worked tirelessly up and down the wing. Let's hope we can keep this run going.Marching On Together

Two Points Dropped

Leyton Orient 2 Leeds United 2

Leeds extended their unbeaten run to nine games at Brisbane Road although they will be very disappointed that they dropped two points to a never say die Orient who were down to ten men for the last half hour. Leeds started brightly and Neil Kilkenny had a shot saved before Robert Snodgrass fired home their opener.

They went 2-0 up when Orient's Jason Demetriou handled a goal bound shot from Becchio and was sent off. Ian Snodgrass converting the penalty sending the keeper Jones the wrong way. However the hosts hit back brilliantly and Sean Thornton curled in a free-kick ( as he did at Elland Road earlier in the season) before Casper Ankergren failed to hold a shot and Church scrambled it home.

Casper Ankergren made two impressive saves to deny Colchester's Karl Hawley and Mark Yeates during the match. Jermaine Beckford could have added a second for Leeds late on but was denied by U's goalkeeper Mark Cousins.

Becks On The Double

Leeds United 2 Milton Keynes Dons 0

On a day when 19 members of Ennislusc were at Elland Road Jermaine Beckford marked his return after a ban with two goals to settle this top-of-the-table contest. What was most pleasing to see was the manner of the victory which was done playing some of the most attractive football witnessed at Elland Road for quite a while.

Beckford broke the deadlock with a rasping volley after Luciano Becchio headed down Ben Parker's free-kick. And Beckford added his second after the break, shooting home after swapping passes with the hard worjing Robert Snodgrass.

The Leeds striker then squandered a great chance for his treble while Sam Baldock wasted MK Dons' best opening, screwing the ball wide from six yards. For us Ennislusc supporters in the crowd it was the beginning of a great day which finished in the small hours of Sunday morning. How… Read more

19th Ennislusc Trip A Huge Success

While it may have been one of our smallest travelling party's yet all nineteen enjoyed themselves no end and of course the result helped. On this trip we flew to Birmingham with the bonus being that we flew back from Newcastle on Sunday evening at 6.40pm which gave some tired body's time to relax in the morning. As we normally have to get a bus at 9.00am and with the clocks going forward an hour you can well imagine how beneficial this was to all concerned.

Obviously the result made for the weekend but it was the quality of the football that gave everyone a lift. It was the best we've seen this Leeds team play in the last three years and hopefully it augers well for the final push for promotion. As usual we stayed in the Marriott which is a beautiful hotel and in the opinion of many of… Read more

At Last Away Win

Crewe 2 Leeds United 3

Leeds scored three first half goals and survived a second half fight-back to secure their first away win since January 17th against ten-man Crewe. With Jermaine Beckford suspended Simon Grayson gave a debut to Liam Dickinson up front and he put in a great 70 minutes before being replaced by USA's Mark Grella. The game changed on 17 minutes when Crewe's Billy Jones saw red for dissent after just being booked before Neil Kilkenny drilled in Leeds opener from 25 yards.

Luciano Becchio headed in from a Snodgrass cross on 30 mins and Robert Snodgrass himself ran clear to add a third as Leeds capitalised on their numerical advantage. Julian Baudet headed in from a corner and Tom Pope stooped to nod for Crewe but Leeds held on for the win and an invalueable three points.

Seven In A Row At Home

Leeds United 1 Swindon Town 0

Leeds left it late to equal a club record of seven home wins in a row ( last achieved by Dave O Leary's team in the 1999/2000 season) when Beckford scored with a header in the 87th minute.
This was Beckford's 29th goal of the season but in the 94th minute he was sent off for dissent which will see him suspended for the game away to Crewe.

While it was great to get the three points this was far from a vintage display by Grayson's men.
Swindon keeper Phil Smith saved well from Robert Snodgrass, while Beckford also saw a header cleared off the line. Beckford finally made the breakthrough when he headed in at the far post and it was enough for the win, though he was later sent off for two bookings.

Away Day Blues Again

Bristol Rovers 2 Leeds United 2

Bristol Rovers striker Jo Kuffour's last-minute goal earned his side a draw and ensured Leeds' two-month wait without an away win continues.
Rovers' Jeff Hughes smashed in a David Pipe cross on 14 minutes to open the scoring before Luciano Becchio headed his second goal in a week to level for Leeds just before the half hour .

The provider of Becchio's goal, Robert Snodgrass, curled in a sublime finish from 25 yards to put United ahead. With injury time nearly up it looked like Leeds would hold out for the three points but Kuffour had the last laugh in the final minute when he latched onto a ball over the top and hammered in the equaliser.

Bristol Rovers: Phillips, Ryan Green, Anthony, Elliott, Lescott (Jacobson 65), Pipe, Lines (Disley 73), Campbell, Hughes (Kuffour 63), Lambert, Duffy.

Becks Hatrick Seals Impressive Win

Leeds United 4 Yeovil Town 0

Jermaine Beckford scored his third hat-trick of the season as Leeds romped to victory against a lacklustre Yeovil and are now bak in the play offs spots once again.

Beckford stuck out a boot to divert a Ben Parker cross in for his first before Neil Kilkenny lobbed Yeovil keeper Josh Wagenaar from 30 yards.
Kilkenny set up Beckford for his second and then Jonny Howson released the striker to complete his hat-trick.

Leeds Luciano Becchio was brought down for a penalty but the striker who was seeking to score in his third consecutive game fired the resulting spot-kick over the bar. It is Leeds home form that is keeping them in with a chance of a play off spot and if they can rectify their away form they will be a side to be reckoned with come play off time.

Leeds Coaches In Ennis Thanks To Avenue

On Friday 27th of March at 9pm in Moroney's Avenue United will hold their 200 Club Draw. There to make the draw on the night will be Leeds United football coaches ( Terence Potter Chief Academy Scout, Christopher Coates Under 12 Academy Coach, Philip Wilson Under 16 Academy Coach and Denis Oates Under 14 Academy Coach) who are in town for the weekend as guest of Avenue and will be holding coaching sessions in Lees Road on Saturday and Sunday.

Given that Moroney's is home to the Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club it's ironic that over twenty five club members will be in Elland Road on that weekend for the clash of Leeds and the MKDons. However Ennislusc will be well represented on the night and it's hoped to make a presentation to the coaches on behalf of the supporters club. Ennislusc and Moroney's are also sponsoring the Avenue Utd… Read more

Good Away Point

Oldham Athletic 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds ended their run of three straight away defeats when Luciano Becchio brilliant header salvaged a point at Boundary Park. Oldham took the lead on 51 minutes when Lee Hughes seized on a loose ball and volleyed home through the legs of Casper Ankergren from a tight angle.

But the visitors were level two minutes later when Becchio was left unmarked at a corner and headed in from six yards. Leeds had a chance to win it near the end but goalkeeper Greg Fleming did well to keep out Fabian Delph's shot after a flowing move.

For those watching the match on Sky Sports it came as a surprise to see the Oldham kit but in reality they wore a special pink strip to raise awareness for the Victoria Breast Unit at Royal Oldham Hospital.

Oldham: Fleming, Eardley, Hazell, Gregan, Jones, Smalley (Liddell 79), Allott,… Read more

Back In Top Six

Leeds United 3 Scunthorpe United 2

The presence of Leeds United's top score this season Jermaine Beckford was a major factor in The Whites securing all three points against fellow top six contenders Scunthorpe at Elland Road.

Jermaine Beckford opened the scoring against his old club from Jonny Howson's cross, before Bradley Johnson saw his deflected shot make it 2-0. However Gary Hooper capitalised on some poor defending to pull one back, before he ran through unchallenged to level.

Beckford hammered in from 12 yards to win it before Leeds had Howson sent off for two bookable offences in the 80 minute ans so misses the televised game on Monday night away to Oldham.

Leeds: Ankergren, Douglas, Marques, Naylor, Parker, Kilkenny (Trundle 56), Howson, Delph, Snodgrass, Beckford, Robinson (Johnson 15), Trundle (Michalik 88).
