Home Winning Run Ends

Leeds United 1 Carlisle 1

A Scott Dobie goal from a corner on 75 minutes ended Leeds great home run but with Charlton losing on the night United extended their lead at the top to five points. With Charlton coming to Elland Road on Saturday Grayson's boys will be very keen to get back to winning ways.

In the Carlisle line up were ex Leeds players Ian Harte and Tom Taiwo along with veteran Irish International Graham Kavanagh. Leeds took the Leeds on 30 minutes from a Jermaine Beckford penalty that was saved but he knocked the follow up to the net. Thirty seconds later Robert Snodgrass hit the post but this was as close as Leeds got to scoring for the remainder of the game. One must look at this as a point gained and look ahead to the top of the table clash on Saturday next.

Unlucky United

Leeds United 0 Liverpool 1

Liverpool striker David Ngog produced a clinical finish to help the Reds come through a testing Carling Cup third-round tie at Leeds. Ngog controlled a mishit shot by Javier Mascherano before spinning and sidefooting past keeper Shane Higgs.

It was the kind of finish Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford lacked as he mishit an earlier shot when through on goal. Beckford was also harshly deemed offside when Leeds had an early Lubomir Michalik headed effort disallowed. It was a very contentious call by the assistant referee as Beckford looked onside, while also not appearing to get a touch as Michalik's low header found its way past flailing keeper Diego Cavalieri.

The decision may leave Leeds with a rueful feeling of an opportunity lost, especially against a lacklustre Liverpool side, but Grayson can take encouragement from a determined performance. It's now back to the bread and butter of the… Read more

Win At The Death

MKDons 0 Leeds United 1

Fresh from their great mid week performance vs Liverpool, Leeds put in a workman like show to steal all three points at the death against the unlucky Dons. Robert Snodgrass headed a winner in the second minute of injury-time against the 10-man Dons to keep Leeds top. Dons threatened Leed's unbeaten record early on and Aaron Wilbraham was twice denied by Leeds keeper Shane Higgs.

But the game turned when Dons winger Jason Puncheon was dismissed for a two footed challenge on Michael Doyle. It took Leeds just over 45 minutes to make their numerical advantage count before Snodgrass headed home Bradley Johnson's left-wing cross. With Charlton winning at home to Exeter it was imperative that Leeds kept up the pressure as The Addicks visit Elland Road next Saturday for the top of table clash.

Better Believe Top Of The Table

Leeds United 4 Gillingham 1

Leeds extended their home record to 15 league wins in a row with a great display over a gallant Gillingham side. Two goals from Bradley Johnson who is playing out of his skin this season in midfield and a goal each from Johnny Howson and a header from Jermaine Beckford put Leeds on top of the table. This was courtesy of Norwich's Grant Holt who scored in the 93rd minute to deprive Charlton of all three points and their place on top of the pile on goal difference.

This win set up Grayson's boys well for their televised League Cup tie on Tuesday evening with Liverpool. However at the end of the day this is a not a pressure match for Leeds as our priorities this season at all cost is promotion to The Championship. That said wouldn't it be nice to put one over on The… Read more

Leeds vs Liverpool Live On Sky

Tuesday evening next the 22nd September at 7.45pm there should be some atmosphere in Moroney's when Leeds host Liverpool in the live League Cup game. While we have no aspirations of winning this competition it will be a good barometer as to how much progress we have made in footballing terms this season. With a crowd of 30,000 plus expected at Elland Road it promises to be a good game and will no doubt bring back many memories of our days in the Premiership.

That's where we want to be so as I've said all along promotion is our only goal this season and we must not lose sight of this goals. So get on down to Moroney's on Tuesday evening where the crack and slagging will be mighty.

Winning Streak Is Over

Southend United 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds dropped their first points of the season after a stalemate at Roots Hall. However the League One leaders, who had begun the season with an eight-game winning streak, had goalkeeper Shane Higgs to thank for earning them a point.

The keeper saved Lee Barnard's 66th-minute penalty after the Southend striker was fouled by new signing Leigh Bromby. Leeds enjoyed the better chances early on but Jermaine Beckford, Robert Snodgrass and Patrick Kisnorbo were all off target with their efforts. Ex Leeds player Dougie Freedman came on as a substitute for Southend and nearly stole it at the death with a stunning strike that just went wide.

14 Home Wins In A Row

Leeds United 2 Stockport County 0

Simon Grayson's men completed 14 home league victorys on the trot, something the great Don Revie side of the late 60's and early 70's failed to achieve. However it must be stressed that we are talking about League 1 games here as opposed to the top division Revie's side competed iin. They also completed a second record of eight successive victorys in a row, another outstanding achievement that must be acknowledged.

Two first-half strikes sunk Stockport, Mike Grella accepting a short pass from Bradley Johnson inside the box before curling an effort into the corner. Lubomir Michalik stabbed home from six yards amid protests after Leigh Bromby appeared to impede Owain Fon Williams. Leeds could have added to the tally but Williams saved Robert Snodgrass weak penalty with an outstretched leg although he was going the wrong way.Keep it going must be the motto as automatic… Read more

This is the challenge all Leeds fans were waiting for and as Sky will televise two games on these dates this clash seems certain to be screened. Now that's a game not to be missed and with Liverpool fans heading to Moroney's to slag us Leeds boys the crack should ne mighty. Bring on The Pool.

Make That Five

Colchester United 1 Leeds United 2

Jermaine Beckford netted the winner as Leeds maintained their 100% record with victory at Colchester. Leeds took the lead two minutes after the break when Bradley Johnson headed in Robert Snodgrass's free-kick. Johnson has got a new lease of life this season and with Grayson playing him on the left side of midfield he seems to be thriving in this new role. Obviously playing left back as was previously was the case limited his goalscoring chances but he's been a revelation in his new position.

Ex Charlton forward Kevin Lisbie equalised from the penalty spot after he had won the kick himself when he was tugged by Rui Marques. However Becks struck the decisive goal for Leeds when he converted from six yards after Alan Maybury's ( an ex Leeds player himself) defensive header had fallen short. Hopefully with the transfer window closing on… Read more

Complete Performance By U21's And Leeds

Great Weekend For All Leeds Banner Supporters

By John Galvin

A great trip was had by all at the recent home game v Tranmere with a whopping 3-0 win, which in all honesty could have been 10-0. Leeds were sublime at times, all six Ennis Supporter LUSC members certainly enjoyed the game. Present at the game were Craig and Nicola, Marty and Melissa, Kevin and John. In all my years travelling to Ellen Rd, since ,my first trip in 85 with Mr Greene this was certainly the most complete performance.

A most enjoyable weekend when Nuggy finally informed us that Clare had qualified for their first ever under 21 All Ireland final. With the sun shining coming away from Ellen Rd, maybe the portents are good that the sun might shine on us this season. After a few nice pints in the marriot knowing we had the three points
got, the words of… Read more

Top Of The Table

Leeds United 3 Tranmere Rovers 0

It was a great day at Elland Road for Ennislusc supporters Marty Brennan, Melissa O Connell,Craig Ryan and girlfriend Nicola, Kevin Greene and John Galvin who saw Simon Grayson's boys go joint top of League 1 with Charlton. Leeds eased to victory over Tranmere as they maintained their 100% start to the season and in his post match comments ex Liverpool star and now Rovers manager John Barnes said they were lucky as it could have been seven or eight nil.

Jermaine Beckford hit the post for the home side before Bradley Johnson scored after Luciano Becchio's header had been parried by keeper Luke Daniels. Then on 35 minutes Beckford nipped in and sent a shot in off the foot of the far post to add a second for Leeds. The work-rate of the team throughout the whole match and passing was excellent.

The second half was… Read more

Great Comeback

Walsall 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds came from behind to secure a dramatic late win over Walsall to make it three wins out of three. The Saddlers went ahead in the 79th minute when Sam Parkin hammered home a penalty after Rui Marques had brought down Steve Jones. However the 4,000 Leeds fans saw Bradley Johnson grab an equaliser with a diving header at the far post following an Andy Robinson corner.

Then up came that man again, our saviour on so many occassions Jermaine Beckford. He turned central defender Manny Smith before smashing in a low left-footed shot from outside the box for the winner in the 86 minute to grab a superb three points for Grayson's boys.

Leeds lined out as follows :

Colchester Game Looks On

Thanks to the great endevours of our secretary Paul Nihill and the canceling of many Ryanair routes into and out of Manchester it is now possible for us to fly in and out of Shannon for the Colchester game at the end of January 2010. Presently we could fly to Liverpool on the 29th Jan at 08.45 from Shannon and depart on Sunday evening the 31st from Birmingham on the 18.25 arriving in Shannon at approximately 19.30.

If we book now the cost of the flights would be 100 Euro and even allowing for the government taxes this is good value. As we discussed at the AGM it hadn't looked possible that we would ever be flying into or out of Shannon in the forseeable future but today this opportunity arose thanks to Michael O Leary problems with airport charges in Manchester.

If we get sufficient interest we will look to the… Read more

Two Out Of Two

Wycombe Wanderers 0 Leeds United 1

A spectacular 30 yard effort from Luciano Becchio on 61 minutes sealed a great away victory for Simon Grayson's boys and continues their good start to the season. Included in the Wycombe team were ex Leeds players Ian Westlake and Mike Duberry but on the day they played second fiddle to a Bradley Johnson inspired Leeds.

While by any stretch of the imagination this was a poor game with very few shots on target and a Jermaine Beckford who seemed to have other things on his mind. All the speculation with a possible transfer to Newcastle seems to have unsettled the player. On the day keeper Shane Higgs who seems to have made the position his own, Michael Doyle and Luciano Becchio were Leeds best players. Next up at Elland Road are Tranmere Rovers with their new manager ex Liverpool star John Barnes in charge today… Read more

New Ennislusc Tops On The Way

Thanks to the efforts of Kevin Greene members of Ennislusc will be resplendent in new rugby style tops shortly. As our last tops were so successful we thought that an away version of the top would go down well with blue as the main color, yellow on the sleeves and a white trim. The idea came about in a discussion following Monday night's AGM and up to yesterday evening orders for 48 had been put in by members following texts to their mobiles.

It is hoped that the launch of the away top will be on Monday 19th October when Leeds play Norwich which is live on Sky Sports. This will be the fourth shirt launched by Ennislusc since it's inception and very few clubs if any can compete with the quality and value available to it's members. Marching On In Style Together

Becks To The Rescue

Leeds United 2 Exeter City 1.

Becks started where he left off last season ( 34 goals to his credit) and saved Leeds blushes on a day that saw Elland Road's highest opening day attendance since 2004. Beckford had missed two good chances before he coolly opened the scoring when left-back Ben Parker set him up for a low shot into the bottom corner.

Beckford headed against the bar, before former Leeds trainee Barry Corr saw red for elbowing new signing Michael Doyle the ex Coventry City Irish International. But Alex Russell fired Exeter level following a free kick , only for Robert Snodgrass and another debutant Jason Crowe to set up Beckford's late winner.

Excellent AGM

Last night Ennislusc had one of their most successful AGM since their inception. As always a great turnout of members showed up and a lively discussion took place after the Carling Cup game involving Darlington and Leeds. In what was a very poor game Leeds booked their passage to round two courtesy of a toe poke from Showumni on 54 minutes.

One of the items up for discussion was the proposal that the club consider joining the Leeds United Members Club and a strong case for this was put forward by Kevin Greene, Tommy Kelly and Kieran Ryan. It was agreed to find out the cost and benefits etc and report back on the 19th October when Leeds would be on Sky vs Norwich City.

Also on the agenda was the club trips and after much discussion it was agreed to go early in the New Year leaving us with the possibility… Read more

Congratulations to our good friend and Ennislusc member Enda Howard and his lovely wife Mags on the birth of their son at 6.30am today. It looks like the names Luke and Tom are top of the list and all at Ennilusc send the Howard family their good wishes. Oh and yes Enda has said he's a Leeds supporter !

Fixtures Out

It's Exeter City first up for Leeds at Elland Road on the 8th August as the League 1 fixtures were published today followed by an away fixture to Wycombe on the 15th. However the stand out fixture for our first trip of the season looks to be Norwich City on October 17th.

We can fly to Birmingham on Friday at lunchtime from Shannon but it's the return journey that will pose a problem. Presently the only flight that's available to us on Sunday is from Stansted and this is 175 mls from Leeds. This leaves us with the only option of flying into Dublin as the Cork's and Galway's are too expensive. This was never our preferred choice but with the Ryanair schedule in place and flights cut into Shannon we seem to have no other alternative.

Obviously we will discuss this further at our AGM in August and if anyone… Read more
