Moving On Up

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 Leeds United 3

Leeds extend their lead at the top of League One to six points including a game in hand with a fifth straight win as Brighton suffered a first loss under Gus Poyet. With their nearest rivals Charlton dropping points a Yeovil this was a five point swing for Graysons boys.

Scotland\'s Robert Snodgrass opened the scoring on 27 mins when his 20-yard shot crept past stand-in keeper Graeme Smith. Top score Jermaine Beckford then made it two with his 13th of the season just on the stroke of half time when he ran onto Neil Kilkenny\'s pass to score and Kilkenny himself lashed in the third in the 90 minute. Glenn Murray headed Brighton\'s best chance wide, but it was Leeds\'s day.

The international break seems to have benefited Leeds as the were fitter and fresher in their approach to the game and deserved… Read more

Leeds Progress In Johnston's Paints

Leeds United 3 Grimsby Town 1

Leeds advanced to the Northern Section semi-finals of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and are now two games away from a Wembley Final appearance. The home side took the lead after 40 minutes when Olly Lancashire turned on loan Leicester player Max Gradel's cross into his own net for a deserved lead.

Just on the stroke of half time Neil Kilkenny made it 2-0 firing home from the edge of the box to round off a neat move.

Top scorer Jermaine Beckford slotted home Leeds's third after Bradley Johnson's fine run before ex Leeds player Peter Sweeney hit a consolation for Grimsby with a well-taken volley after Casper had punched the corner clear. However he landed on the penalty spot in clearing the ball and Sweeney cleverly volleyed into the top corner for the goal of the game. Another good home win and Grayson can feel happy… Read more

Up And Running In FA Cup

Oldham Athletic 0 Leeds United 2

Jonathan Howson and Mike Grella grabbed the goals to send Leeds into the second round of the FA Cup against fellow League 1 side Oldham. Midfielder Johnny Howson set the League One leaders on their way with a powerful first-half strike which took a slight deflection before flying in from 20 yards.

That came moments after Oldham's best chance of the match when winger Joe Colbeck failed to control the ball with the goal at his mercy.
And Leeds controlled matters before Grella wrapped it up in injury time, turning in teenage left backs Aidan White's cross.Midfielder Michael Doyle received his fifth booking and so missed the Johnstons Paint game live on Sky Tuesday night vs Grimsby Town.

Wecome Baby David

Today was indeed a very special day for our great secretary Paul "Nuggy" Nihill and his wife Geraldine with the birth of their son David at 1.57pm. Baby David weighed in at 8lbs 11oz and both mother and son are doing well. Many of you would have seen Nugs pushing his daughter Ruth in her buggy along the new Ennis bypass recently as part of his exercise routine so now one expects he'll have to get a double buggy!

Sincere best wishes to the Nihill family on their great news from all their friends in Ennislusc. See you Nugs on Tuesady night for the Leeds vs Oldham game and a celebratory pint or two :-)

Seventh Heaven

Leeds United 4 Yeovil Town 0

Despite a slow start Leeds continued their fantastic form from Tuesday night to inflict a second successive 4-0 defeat on Yeovil and move seven points clear at the top. Yeovil had come to Elland Road high on confidence following a run of six unbeaten games but that run came to an abrupt end. Grayson fielded an unchanged team from Tuesday night as one would expect but the early exchanges were forgetful.

However that all changed on 42 mins when Bradley Johnson gave Leeds a deserved lead after his cross avoided everyone to beat Yeovil goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. Substitute Max Gradel doubled the advantage on 69 mins after after taking a pass from Leigh Bromby and scoring from a narrow angle. On 78 mins Becks pounced on a mistake by Terrell Forbes to make it three and goal No 11 for the season for the Leeds centre… Read more

Oh What A Night

Bristol Rovers 0 Leeds United 4

Jermaine Beckford was the toast of Leeds fans as he scored two goals to condemn Bristol Rovers to a fourth consecutive defeat and give Grayson's boys a four point gap at the top of table. Becks latched on to Michael Doyle's pass to fire in the first, then on-loan Welsh international Sam Vokes added a second from close range in his third start for Leeds.

Beckford wrong-footed Byron Anthony to make it 3-0 with a drive on 64 minutes and substitute Tresor Kandol completed the rout with a tap-in late on. Rovers best chance came when Stuart Campbell hit the bar early on, but they were second-best to the very impressive Whites.

Unbeaten Run Comes To End

Charlton 2 Leeds United 1

Leeds saw their lead at the top of League One reduced to one point after losing a tight game at The New Den to arch rivals Millwall. Simon Grayson's side were the only unbeaten team in England going into the match but fell behind when Neil Harris (who also scored against us in last summers Play Off Semi Final) headed home Chris Hackett's cross after only three minutes.

However Leeds were back level on eleven minutes when Australian international Patrick Kisnorbo equalised when he headed home a Robert Snodgrass corner. Harris and Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford missed easy chancesin the second half before Gary Alexander met a Danny Schofield cross on 83 minutes to head the winner. On a positive note Leeds are still top of the table and go to Bristal Rovers on Tuesday night to play their game in hand where a win would… Read more

Whining Gooners

Below is a letter from a Leeds fan on Football 365 after a few day's of Arsenal fans complaining about winning nothing for a few years... The ps is especially apt!

Dearest Whining Gooners...

While you have spent the last few years moaning about your living legend manager Arsene Wenger, our beloved Leeds United (who are also 'not Barnet') have....

(2004) Been relegated from the Premiership.

(2005) Had to watch a team that included Jermaine Wright and Julian Joachim.

(2005) Had Ken fecking Bates take over our club - and have THAT as an actual improvement..!

(2006) Suffered a crushing defeat on the verge of a Premiership return to Watford in the Play-Off final - Watford, I ask you!

(2007) Been relegated from the Championship into Division Three (let's not dress it up here)...continued our financial meltdown (I'm not sure you'll have heard about it - it's been kept pretty much under wraps).

(2007) Been deducted… Read more

Kelly's Visit Elland Road

Here Tommy Kelly and his daughter Suzanne give an account of the top of the table clash they attended recently.
Saturday, October 3rd, 2009. Elland Road.

Leeds United 0, Charlton Ath 0.

Attendance: 31,838

This top of the league clash never lived up to its expectations primarily I would think because of prevailing weather conditions - near gale force
swirling wind which made ball control a lottery and thus mistakes were plenty. Leeds lined out without regulars, Higgs, Crowe, Parker, Snodgrass
and Marques - the latter being replaced by returning captain Naylor. The others were replaced by Ankergen, who made a couple of fine stops, but some of his clearances were erratic, Bromby who had several attempted clearances
blocked down: Hughes and Kilkenny. Included in the Charlton line up were former Leeds players Spring, Sodje and Frazer Richardson.

Frazer got an appreciative round of applause from the home supporters in the East Stand when he took up… Read more

Oh What A Night

Leeds United 2 Norwich City 1

It is safe to assume that Norwich manager Paul Lambert was upset after seeing his side robbed of at least a point with a 92 minute goal from Jermaine Beckford. To compound matters it came as a result of a dreadful goal kick from the otherwise reliable goalkeeper Frazer Forester who presented Becks with a one on one that he duly converted. In all truth Leeds could and should have been two down after 15 minutes but for two excellent saves from Shane Higgs who went off shortly afterwards with a leg injury. As happens against the run of play Leeds took the lead when from a Snodgrass corner Bradley Johnson rode highest at the back post to power home a superb header.

Norwich came storming back and on 38 minutes Grant Holt rose above goalscorer Johnston to head home the equalizer. For over half an… Read more

Anyone For The Tops and Mugs

On Tuesday night after the televised game our new rugby style tops in the Leeds away colours were launched and were a roaring success with the members. Indeed 46 tops were sold on the night and everyone was loud in their praise for their quality and style. Once again Kevin Greene must take a bow as he put tremendous work into this project.

Also on the night a mug with the Ennislusc crest was launched and at a super price of €3 one is not surprised that they sold out. This morning it was on to the supplier Tulla woman Mags Lysagh for a repeat order. A big thank you must go here to Noelette Barry for her suggestion re mugs and speaking to Mags on our behalf. Now as they say the tea and coffee will taste sweeter or at least it will to us Leeds fans. Marching On Together

All Square

Leeds United 0 Charlton 0

Leeds remain the only unbeaten team in the league after their game against in-form Charlton finished goalless at Elland Road. Striker Jermaine Beckford had the best chance in the early exchanges, firing wide from 15-yards after being put through by Neil Kilkenny.

Charlton keeper Rob Elliot pulled off a flying save to deny Bradley Johnson, while Charlton's Jonjo Shelvey headed ex Leeds player Frazer Richardson's cross off target.

In the ten minutes the only chance of note fell to Enoch Showunmi who's lob just flew over the angle of Charlton's post and bar. At the end of day we'll take the point and a clean sheet. Marching On Together

New Ennislusc Tops

The new rugby style Ennislusc tops in away colours have arrived and will be given out on Monday week the 19th Oct when Leeds play host to Norwich City live on Sky Sports. At €20 these are a steal considering the quality and it's no wonder that there are orders for fifty already. We may be a League 1 club on the playing field but in terms of supporters clubs we are a Premiership one.

Now with home and away tops plus club hats we'll be well seen at our next club trip to Elland Road. A special thanks to Kevin Greene who put in some much work in securing this order for the club. a true Leeds fan. Marching On Together

Home Winning Run Ends

Leeds United 1 Carlisle 1

A Scott Dobie goal from a corner on 75 minutes ended Leeds great home run but with Charlton losing on the night United extended their lead at the top to five points. With Charlton coming to Elland Road on Saturday Grayson's boys will be very keen to get back to winning ways.

In the Carlisle line up were ex Leeds players Ian Harte and Tom Taiwo along with veteran Irish International Graham Kavanagh. Leeds took the Leeds on 30 minutes from a Jermaine Beckford penalty that was saved but he knocked the follow up to the net. Thirty seconds later Robert Snodgrass hit the post but this was as close as Leeds got to scoring for the remainder of the game. One must look at this as a point gained and look ahead to the top of the table clash on Saturday next.

Unlucky United

Leeds United 0 Liverpool 1

Liverpool striker David Ngog produced a clinical finish to help the Reds come through a testing Carling Cup third-round tie at Leeds. Ngog controlled a mishit shot by Javier Mascherano before spinning and sidefooting past keeper Shane Higgs.

It was the kind of finish Leeds striker Jermaine Beckford lacked as he mishit an earlier shot when through on goal. Beckford was also harshly deemed offside when Leeds had an early Lubomir Michalik headed effort disallowed. It was a very contentious call by the assistant referee as Beckford looked onside, while also not appearing to get a touch as Michalik's low header found its way past flailing keeper Diego Cavalieri.

The decision may leave Leeds with a rueful feeling of an opportunity lost, especially against a lacklustre Liverpool side, but Grayson can take encouragement from a determined performance. It's now back to the bread and butter of the… Read more

Win At The Death

MKDons 0 Leeds United 1

Fresh from their great mid week performance vs Liverpool, Leeds put in a workman like show to steal all three points at the death against the unlucky Dons. Robert Snodgrass headed a winner in the second minute of injury-time against the 10-man Dons to keep Leeds top. Dons threatened Leed's unbeaten record early on and Aaron Wilbraham was twice denied by Leeds keeper Shane Higgs.

But the game turned when Dons winger Jason Puncheon was dismissed for a two footed challenge on Michael Doyle. It took Leeds just over 45 minutes to make their numerical advantage count before Snodgrass headed home Bradley Johnson's left-wing cross. With Charlton winning at home to Exeter it was imperative that Leeds kept up the pressure as The Addicks visit Elland Road next Saturday for the top of table clash.

Better Believe Top Of The Table

Leeds United 4 Gillingham 1

Leeds extended their home record to 15 league wins in a row with a great display over a gallant Gillingham side. Two goals from Bradley Johnson who is playing out of his skin this season in midfield and a goal each from Johnny Howson and a header from Jermaine Beckford put Leeds on top of the table. This was courtesy of Norwich's Grant Holt who scored in the 93rd minute to deprive Charlton of all three points and their place on top of the pile on goal difference.

This win set up Grayson's boys well for their televised League Cup tie on Tuesday evening with Liverpool. However at the end of the day this is a not a pressure match for Leeds as our priorities this season at all cost is promotion to The Championship. That said wouldn't it be nice to put one over on The… Read more

Leeds vs Liverpool Live On Sky

Tuesday evening next the 22nd September at 7.45pm there should be some atmosphere in Moroney's when Leeds host Liverpool in the live League Cup game. While we have no aspirations of winning this competition it will be a good barometer as to how much progress we have made in footballing terms this season. With a crowd of 30,000 plus expected at Elland Road it promises to be a good game and will no doubt bring back many memories of our days in the Premiership.

That's where we want to be so as I've said all along promotion is our only goal this season and we must not lose sight of this goals. So get on down to Moroney's on Tuesday evening where the crack and slagging will be mighty.

Winning Streak Is Over

Southend United 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds dropped their first points of the season after a stalemate at Roots Hall. However the League One leaders, who had begun the season with an eight-game winning streak, had goalkeeper Shane Higgs to thank for earning them a point.

The keeper saved Lee Barnard's 66th-minute penalty after the Southend striker was fouled by new signing Leigh Bromby. Leeds enjoyed the better chances early on but Jermaine Beckford, Robert Snodgrass and Patrick Kisnorbo were all off target with their efforts. Ex Leeds player Dougie Freedman came on as a substitute for Southend and nearly stole it at the death with a stunning strike that just went wide.
