What A Finish

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Leeds United 2

In a thrilling FA Cup tie at White Hart Lane Leeds came from behind twice to secure a draw with one of the cup favourites. However it took a penalty in the 95th minute by Jermaine Beckford to keep us in the cup. Referee Alan Wiley judged that Matt Dawson had taken Becks down and after missing a penalty in the semi final play off last season vs Millwall many of us watching the game were not very confident he would score.

However Becks proved us wrong and he seems to hold his best for the big games. Five minutes into the second half he was on the end of a Snodgrass corner to get us back on terms after Peter Crouch had scored for Spurs following a great save from Casper Ankergren in the Leeds goal. As early as the 8th minute he dived to… Read more

What's Gone Wrong

Swindon Town 3 Leeds United 0

Yes I hear you say is that the correct score or am I having a bad dream.Unfortunately the scoreline does'nt lie and this was the worst display from a Leeds team since Simon Grayson took over twelve months ago. Indeed the scoreline does'nt do justice to a Swindon team which completerly dominated the proceedings and could have won by a bigger scoreline. questions have to be asked and our game on Saturday which Ennislusc are going over for is now a must win game even this early in the season.

Billy Paynter scored twice as in-form Swindon romped to a comfortable victory that leaves promotion hopefuls Leeds without a league win in three matches. Leeds failed to replicate their fine cup form in the league recently, fell behind when Charlie Austin scored from Simon Ferry's pass. Lescinel Jean-Francois swinging cross was then finished in style… Read more

Biggest Trip Yet

On Friday morning next at 7.45am Ennislusc will set out from the West County to Shannon Airport on their 20th trip since being formed in 1999. As always great credit must go to our outstanding secretary Paul Nuggy Nihill who has put together a great package of flights, bus transfers, match ticket and 2 nights bed and breakfast in the four star Marriott and all for €260.This is an uureal price and nearly €125 cheaper than our first trip all those years ago.

I suppose as such it's not surprising that we have 54 going on the trip ( incl 9 making the trip over on Saturday morning) and with Ryanair downgrading their flights from Shannon in April many see it as last chance to get over to Elland Road for a while without departing from Dublin Airport. Let's hope their recent form is only a blip and we can get… Read more

Bad Day At Office

Exeter 2 Leeds United 0

Exeter produced a brilliant showing to inflict only the second defeat of the season on League One leaders Leeds. Ryan Harley opened the scoring after just four minutes heading powerfully home from Steve Tully's fine cross. A very off-colour Leeds improved after the break, with Jermaine Beckford forcing ex Southampton keeper Paul Jones into a excellent save. But as Leeds chaced an equalizer they were undone on the counter-attack as Harley beat Casper Ankergren with a stunning 25-yard shot into the top corner.

This was Leeds fifth point dropped in their last two games when one would have expected them to collect all six. Since the high of Old Trafford and Beckfords transfer request performances have dropped substantially and it's up to Grayson to earn his corn now and get us back on track. With Norwich and Charlton closing fast the gap at the top is down… Read more

Back To Earth

Leeds United 1 Wycombe 1

Garry Waddock's Wycombe came to Elland Road second from the bottom of League 1 and despite conceding a goal after four minutes they can consider themselves very unlucky not to gain all three points. Johnny Howson's shot from 22 yards crept under keeper Scott Shearer and it looked like Leeds were well on their way to a easy victory but Wycombe twice hit the upright before half time through Jon Paul Pittman and Scott Davis.

Bradley Johnson did have a header cleared off the line but Leeds struggled to repeat the fluency they showed at Old Trafford and Wycombe equalised in the 63rd minute when Davies long pass to Pittman allowed the striker to cut in from the left leaving Richard Naylor in his wake and fire past Casper Ankergren. Beckford had a chance in injury time but the transfer requested striker was off the… Read more

Mama Always Told Me They'd Be Days Like This

FA Cup 3rd Round
Manchester United 0 Leeds United 1

Wake me up in case I'm still in dreamland, we did beat Man U at Old Trafford :-) It was Jermaine Beckford's strike on 19 minutes which gave Leeds a famous FA Cup victory over their fierce rivals Manchester United in a thrilling tie at Old Trafford. Forty-two league places separate the two clubs following our dramatic fall from grace during the last decade but Simon Grayson's boys showed the rate of their recent revival with a memorable triumph. United had never before lost in the third round of the Cup - or been knocked out of it by a lower-division side - during Sir Alex Ferguson's 23-year reign as manager, but they began 2010 on the wrong end of their biggest upset in this competition since they were dumped out by Bournemouth in 1984. It was Leeds first victory… Read more

Off To Tulla For Man Utd Game

Just as Leeds United are off to Old Trafford on Sunday for the 3rd FA Cup game vs Manchester United, Ennislusc are off to Tulla and more precisely Teach Ol to watch the game live on TV. Our ex President Kevin Barry has invited us on numerous occassions to go to Tulla for a live game and indeed this is our second venture to the famous hill of Tulla for a game. Some years ago we went out to watch Leeds play Plymouth in a televised League 1 at the Powerhouse Bar and on that occassion we won 3-0.

We'd happily settle for a 1-0 victory on Sunday but with the bookies offering 10/1 on Leeds to win our chances seem slight. Yet it will be a test of how far the team has progressed this season under Simon Grayson and we expect a good show from our boys at the… Read more

Sometimes You Have To Be Patient

Stockport County 2 Leeds United 4

Leeds extended their lead at the top of League One to nine points by coming from behind to beat a very determined Stockport. Despite being bottom of the table they came back from a disasterous start after two minutes to lead 2-1 early in the second half and Leeds ended the game with six players booked.

Robert Snodgrass fired United into a second-minute lead hitting a smashing shot from outside the area into the top corner. However Carl Baker's low free-kick levelled matters on 11 minutes following a foul on the same player by Leigh Bromby. Johnny Mullins headed County ahead on the hour but Jermaine Beckford equalised for Leeds six minutes later following a cross by Patrick Kisnorbo.

With three minutes left Leigh Bromby's drive from outside the area gave United the lead and in the 93rd minutes Beckford's second sealed the win before David… Read more

Becks Back On Song

Leeds United 3 Hartlepool United 1

Two goals from Jermaine Beckford helped Leeds to extend their lead at the top of League One to six points. Hartlepool went ahead on 25 minutes when a Ritchie Humphreys corner was not cleared and Armann Bjornsson lashed into the net. If one was watching Sky Sports updates at the time Jeff Stelling could'nt believe his eyes when the score from Elland Road came through. Thankfully for us Leeds supporters things were to change before half time in our favour.

Becks levelled 13 minutes later by flicking in Neil Kilkenny's shot and in injury time in the first half Luciano Becchio's header went in off Gary Liddle ( rear end , they all count ) to put Leeds in front. That man Beckford hit the bar before claiming his seventh goal in five matches on 69 minutes following a flick-on from Becchio.

It was a timely… Read more

Please Santa All I Want For Christmas Is Promotion

Well are nearly half way through the season and we sit top of the league with a game in hand, how bad ! It's a superb start to season by Simon Grayson and all the squad and hopefully at the start of May we'll be going up to the Championship as Champions.

On behalf of all involved at Ennislusc I would like to thank each and everyone of our supporters for their tremendous support particularly at each televised game and their signing up for the Colchester trip at the end of January. We have a very unique club which despite the depression has succeeded in increasing it's membership. To one and all I hope you have a lovely Christmas and New Year and that this time next year we will be fighting for promotion to the Premiership. Marching On Together

Snoddy To The Rescue

Leeds United 1 Southampton 0

Scottish international Robert Snodgrass was the toast of Elland Road today when his superb strike on 77 minutes gave Leeds all three points. What made the victory all the more special was that United extended their lead at the top to four points as nearest rivals Charlton drew at home to Millwall in a eight goal thriller.

Prior to Snoddys strike Luciano Becchio had earlier headed and Jermaine Beckford was guilty of missed a host of chances. Rickie Lambert fired narrowly wide for Saints in injury time as they suffered their first defeat in eight games. Boss Simon Grayson said afterwards that it was their best performance of the season and he praised the defence in particular for closing down the opposition at every opportunity. It's great that we have now hit 50 points for the season so let keep our finger crossed that the run continues.

Two Games From Wembley

Leeds United 2 Accrington Stanley 0

Winger Hogan Ephraim played a starring role as Leeds booked a Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area final against Carlisle. Ephraim, on loan from QPR, fired much-changed Leeds ahead in the ninth minute with a 20-yard shot from the left which deflected off defender Phil Edwards.

And Ephraim's 50th-minute run and cross from the right enabled Neil Kilkenny to head Leeds' second goal. In fairness Accrington outplayed Leeds in the second half as they seem to sit back and their best chance came when John Miles's deflected shot hit the post. The final is over two leg and Leeds are at home first on 18th Jan with the second leg down for the 15th February. It would be mighty nice if we could win the Northern Section as the overall final is down to be played at Wembley Stadium on 28th March.

Another Two Points Dropped

Brentford 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds saw their lead at the top of League One cut to two points after being held to a goalless draw at struggling Brentford. On a heavy pitch which did'nt suit Leeds passing football and without the suspended Robert Snodgrass it ended a bad week for Graysons men as they finished the week dropping four points.

Top-scorer Jermaine Beckford spurned the Whites best chances, twice seeing side-foot finishes saved by home keeper Wojciech Szczesny.

Luciano Becchio almost gave Leeds the lead shortly after the break when his dipping volley skimmed off the bar but that was as near as we came to breaking the deadlock. Brentford's Sam Saunders saw a late free-kick deflected just wide and John Bostock volleyed inches past the post.

And so ended a bad week for Leeds with Charlton closing the gap at the top to two points although Leeds do have a… Read more

We're Off To Old Trafford

Leeds United 5 Kettering Town 1 2nd Rd FA Cup

After Extra Time

Leeds were taken to extra-time against non league Kettering before sealing a third-round FA Cup tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the first week of January. Argentinian Luciano Becchio headed the home team in front on 20 minutes as Leeds dominated the first hour, with the scorer hitting the post and player manager Lee Harper making several saves. Leeds were undone just after the hour mark when former player Anthony Elding headed Kettering level from a right wing cross from Richie Partridge against the run of play.

There was little to choose between the two sides in the first half of extra-time but after the restart Leeds took control with four goals in 11 minutes to ensure the tie would not go to a penalty shoot-out. Leeds took control in the second half of extra-time when… Read more

United Survive Late Scare To Local Rivals

Leeds United 2 Huddersfield Utd 2

The following report was sent by text from Jim Ryan who was at today's game along with Ger Kenneally.Doyle, Snodgrass and Beckford return to the Leeds team today. A perfect start for United as Snodgrass pushed home on two minutes when Smithies the Town keeper spilled the ball. Huddersfield hit the post a couple of minutes later and Snodgrass almost got a second from an overhead kick. Leeds survived some late pressure to go in 1 up at half time.

United fell asleep on 47 minutes when Town equalized as Novack headed home from six yards. Leeds introduced Gradel and Becchio and the moved paid off on 66 minutes when Gradel scored. United however conceded a second equalizer on 78 minutes when again from a cross Rhodes soared above Ankergren to score. United survived a late scare in injury time when Pilkington hit the bar from… Read more

Jim and Ger Marching On Together

On Saturday next Ennislusc club members Jim Ryan and his good friend Ger Kenneally will be in Elland Road for the local derby vs Huddersfield Town which kicks off at 12.15pm. As of this evening there are only 2,500 tickets remaining for the fixture so it looks like there will be some atmosphere in the ground come kick off.

Last season this game (which was played on the 15th November) was Ennislusc first trip of the season and on the day we were beaten by an injury time strike from Huddersfields Michael Collins. Having lost three of our last four fixtures to The Town lets's hope the boys see a reversal in our fortunes this time round. Best wishes for a great weekend lads from all your friends at Ennislusc. Still In The Cup

Kettering Town 1 Leeds United 1

Jermaine Beckford's late goal spared Leeds United from going out of the FA Cup to non-league opposition for the second successive season.

Becks diverted Robert Snodgrass's low cross past Kettering keeper Lee Harper to earn a second-round replay at Elland Road on Tuesday 8th December. Incidentally this game is also being shown live on ITV 4 with KO 8pm..

Kettering took the lead through Man Of March Ian Roper, who headed ex Liverpool and Dundalk player Richie Partridge's free-kick into the net via the bar. Earlier, Harper tipped Jason Crowe's header over the bar while Simon Heslop had his shot saved by Casper Ankergren.

Both teams will have a strong incentive in the replay after the third round draw set up a trip to Old Trafford and Manchester United for the winners.

Great Away Win

Oldham Athletic 0 Leeds United 2

Neil Kilkenny and Luciano Becchio were on target as Leeds notched their fifth straight league win. Simon Grayson handed a league debut to Hogan Ephraim ( on loan from QPR) and Tony Capaldi (on loan from Cardiff City)with David Prutton making his first league start since in Boxing Day and Max Gradel started alongside Sam Vokes up front. On the bench were Jermaine Beckford, Robert Snogdrass, Luciano Becchio with Michael Doyle , Tresor Kandol, Patrick Kisnorbo not even togging and this shows the strength in depth that we now possess and need to gain promotion.

Ex-Oldham favourite Kilkenny opened the scoring on 37 minutes when he burst into the six-yard box to bundle in Max Gradel's cross. Leeds had several chances to increase their lead but Oldham keeper Darryl Flahavan kept his side in the game with a string of fine saves. Becchio sealed the… Read more

Late Late Show From Max

Leeds United 1 Leyton Orient 0

One could call it an inspired substitution by Simon Grayson when he sent on Max Gradel with nine minutes to go in the hope that Leeds would sneak a goal against a very stubborn Orient side. Like a good fairytail Max climbed off the bench to snatch an 89th-minute winner that sees Leeds retain a six point lead at the top of the League One table and keep their 20 game unbeaten home league record intact.

It was not a convincing victory, but on-loan Gradel ( from Leicester City) settled the match when he turned inside the box leaving two defenders in his wake and fired home from 12 yards. Orient thought they had got the opener before that through Sean Thornton, but the referee ruled Andros Townsend had taken his free-kick set-up too quickly.

It's these type of games that will get us promoted when… Read more

FA Cup Clash Live On Sunday

Leeds second round clash to non league Kettering Town will be shown live on ITV on Sunday next the 29th Nov with KO 1.30pm. As all Leeds fans will remember last season we were shocked by non league Histon in the Cup on a dreadful day for football. Hopefully we won't make the same mistake this time as a win would put us into the 3rd round and a chance to be paired against one of the big guns.

As usual we'll be meeting in Moroney's for the game and as Everton vs Liverpool kicks off at the same time the atmosphere should be good. Hope to see you there.Marching On Together
