Top Of The Championship For The New Year

Derby County 0 Leeds United 1

This was always going to be a stick game for Leeds who once again dominated possession but were up against a real dogged Rams defence. It took a brilliant team goal to break the deadlock on 79 minutes when it looked like the game would end in a scoreless draw. Leeds did have a chance to go in ahead on the stroke of half time but Mateo Joseph, effort forced Derby keeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom into a good save.

The winner was a superbly orchestrated goal where Leeds were very patient in their build up holding the ball for nearly three minutes before Aaronson scored. He was involved more than once in a passage of play that ended with Manor Solomon playing a ball for Joel Piroe to tee up the American who side footed home. Two tough away wins for Leeds on the… Read more

Back To The Summit

Leeds United 3 Middlesbrough 1

Leeds high on confidence knew a win would take them back on top as Sheffield United were not playing until Wednesday and on 14 minutes they took the lead. Dan James's cross was touched by Matt Clarke and was saved by keeper Seny Dieng. However unfortunately for Boro the keeper only succeeded in knocking the ball against the Italy International winger and watched it roll past him into the net. Leeds piled on the pressure for the remainder of the half with Aaronson wasting a good chance blazing over when well placed and Dieng made a superb diving save from Willie Gnonto.

Boro got back on level terms on 54 minutes in unfortunate circumstances. Illan Meslier made an excellent save from Riley McGree at the expense of a corner and from Dan Barlaser's resulting corner Austria defender Wober headed into his own net at the… Read more

Rams No Answer To Dominant Leeds

Leeds United 2 Derby County 0

Ennislusc was well represented at Elland Road today when a party of ten were in attendance and thankfully saw a dominant Leeds display but most importantly a win. In attendance were Mike Jones, Dom O Rourke, Stevie Jones, Marty Brennan, Kevin Barry, Kieran Ryan, Steve Underwood , Paudie Carmoday along with his two kids Katie and Cathal.

Despite having 86 per cent of possession for much of the first half it took the home side until six minutes before the half time whistle to break down The Rams defence. Brendan Aaronson effort forced Derby keeper Zetterstrom into an excellent save at the expense of a corner. Joe Rothwell floated in the corner and centre-back Joe Rodon powered home his header from six yards. Five minutes later Leeds made it two and once again Aaronson was involved. His cross took a deflection of Jerry Yates as… Read more

Toothless Leeds Get What They Deserved

Blackburn Rovers 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds winning streak came to and end when a stubborn Rovers held on to record their third win on the trot. Farkes men had the lion's share of possession but once again lacked the sharpness and precision in attack to trouble the home side. Against the run of play Rovers took the lead on 22 minutes when Todd Cantwell scored from the spot. There was absolutely no doubt about the penalty that decided the game as Dolan cut inside Pascal Struijk from the right wing and then was barged into by Tanaka. It was a ridiculous penalty to give away but isn't that just typical Leeds !

Leeds best chances came from Brenden Aaronson, Willie Gnonto and Struijk but we serious lack an out and out striker. Same old story for the past three seasons and nothing being done about it ! Substitute Patrick Bamford… Read more

Hats Off To The Whites

Leeds United 3 Luton Town 0

The home side started in a whirlwind and had The Hatters on the back foot from the off. On 10 minutes Sam Byram sent a scissor-kick volley into the far corner after the defender's blocked shot rebounded back into his path. The much maligned Joel Piroe added a deserved second on the stroke of half-time shooting in a close-range rebound after Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski had kept out Pascal Struijk's header.

The home side dominated all the stats having 76 percent possession over the 90 minutes and 20 shots on goal. The game was wrapped up on 81 minutes when full back Jayden Bogle lifted a brilliant ball over Luton's defence for Dan James to lob the advancing Kaminski. It was a superb goal and a brilliant performance from the home team to stay top of the table.

Top Of The Table

Swansea City 3 Leeds United 4

What an unbelievable game and certainly one that had the stress levels going through the roof. Thankfully we got the three points and back on top of the table. Leeds had not won any of their previous four away games and after eight minutes it looked like that would continue when Harry Darling put The Swans ahead. On 20 minutes Leeds were back on level terms when Dan James set up Manor Solomon to score his first goal since joining on a season long loan from Tottenham Hotspur .However in the third minute of first half injury time Wales striker Liam Cullen put Swansea back in front.

Leeds started the second half revved up and determined to take the game to The Swans. Ten minutes into the half Dan James had his second assist as his cross was turned into his own net by… Read more

Not Good For The Stress Level

Leeds United 2 Queens Park Rangers 0

Once again Leeds had an unbelievable 69 per cent possession but as is our achilles heal the score board didn't reflect our total dominance. Indeed our second goal didn't arrive until the fifth minute of injury time so our supporters were on tenterhooks right to the end. Leeds boss Daniel Farke made three changes to the side which lost to Millwall two through choice and the other after Junior Firpo was retrospectively suspended for three matches for violent conduct in the closing stages.

Leeds deservedly went ahead on 19 minutes when Jayden Bogle shot home at the back post with the ball going in off the underside of the crossbar.
Brenden Aaronson, Ao Tanaka were guilty of missing good opportunities but Solomon had the ball in the net after converting Byram's cross only for the linesmans flag to rule the latter offside in… Read more

The Lions Roar To Victory

Millwall 1 Leeds United 0

Once again Leeds dominated on the possession stakes with 76 per cent of the play as the away team but ended up pointless. We just can't put the ball in the net in the final third or break down ten man defences. The Den has always been a tough ground for Leeds to gain points and with the home side on a three game winning streak coming into the fixture they were full of confidence. Leeds dominated from the off but fell behind to a set piece routine. On 40 minutes without having threatened the Leeds goal Neil Harris's men took the lead. George Saville picking out Jake Cooper who headed across the box for centre half Japhet Tanganga to volley beyond the diving Illan Meslier.

Leeds started the second half in attacking form and Gnonto's near-post header flashed over before Dan James cut inside to… Read more

The Pilgrims Blown Away

Leeds United 3 Plymouth Argyle 0

Wayne Rooney's Pilgrims got a rood awakening at Elland Road where they were routed by the home side and indeed had not one shot on goal in the entire game which is a Championship record. The game was over at half time after Leeds hit three first half goals so it was a stress free day for the home supporters. Leeds opened the scoring on the half hour having had 80% possession thanks to Dan James excellent strike. Three minutes later Joel Piroe was on hand to tap home Ao Tanaka's cross. On 38 minutes the game was put to bed when American International Brenden Aaronson side footed home from close range.

The second half was much the same as the first with Leeds in total control but never added to their score. Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier had possibly his easiest game in a white… Read more

Whites Fail To Ruffle The Robins

Bristol City 0 Leeds United 0

For the early kick off on Saturday morning Ennislusc welcomed Mark O Connell, Michael O Malley, Joe O Malley and Frank O Malley from Wesport to Moroney's as they dropped in to watch the match while on their way to Killarney. Now unfortunately for the lads they saw a Leeds side unable to break down The Robins but they enjoyed the hospitality of Maurice Walsh and Ger "Hanna" Hanrahan. It was great to see fellow Leeds fan visit our home turf and hopefully we'll see them back in the future.

Bristol who were on an unbeaten five game streak going into the game started brightly without ever threatening Illian Meslier. It took until the 34th minute for Leeds to create a meaningful chance when Jayden Bogle headed into the side netting .
Gnonto and James then tested keeper Max O Leary but at the break… Read more

Leeds Sting The Hornets

Leeds United 2 Watford 1

Hornets goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann gifted Leeds two goals in the opening seven minutes and at that stage it looked like the home side would stroll to victory but that certainly wasn't the case. In the end it was all about the three points and Ennislusc members Paul Nihill and James Barry who were in attendance got to see an eventful if somewhat stressful game. After four minutes Bachmann fumbled Largie Ramazani's shot from the edge of the area over the line and to compound matters things got worse for the keeper just two minutes later. He parried a Willy Gnonto cross straight to Brenden Aaronson who sweep home from 12 yards out.

It was a brilliant start for Farke's men but despite dominating the opening half they couldn't add that third goal to kill the game. Watford came out all guns blazing in the second… Read more

Brilliant Leeds Slay The Blades

Leeds United 2 Sheffield United 0

Leeds produced a brilliant performance to beat The Blades who have up to now being undefeated in the league. Both sides paid poignant tribute to former Blades defender George Baldock before the match after his sudden death at the age of 31 last week. The home side started the game well with Ramazani hitting the outside of the post from a tight angle after a good run from midfield by Joe Rothwell. Aaronson twice went close in the final five minutes of the half but it remained level at half time.

The deadlock was broken on 69 minutes when Struijk got across his marker and blasted in Rothwell's corner as Wilder's side conceded for the first time after six successive clean sheets. This lifted the roof at Elland Road with the home crowd in full voice. Incidentally it was also a first set-piece goal… Read more

Shocking Meslier Mistake Costs Leeds Dearly

Sunderland 2 Leeds United 2

An unbelievable error in the 96 minute by Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier handed Championship leaders Sunderland a last-gasp draw at the Stadium of Light. With the final phase of play in injury time Meslier somehow allowed a harmless punt from Republic Of Ireland international substitute Alan Browne to slip through his grasp and roll into the net. Browne was outside the box and from a knock on just lobbed the ball into the area which Meslier let bounce and only he knows what happened next. To say it was a shocking error is an understatement which cost Leeds top spot in The Championship going into the international break.

The Black Cats got off to a terrific start on nine minutes in front of a a bumper home support of 41,769. Full back Trai Hume got to the end line and his excellent cross was… Read more

Good Performance And Good Point

Norwich City 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds started the game in a very determined fashion considering The Canaries had been unbeaten at Carrow Road in their previous 18 league games. However on 15 minutes the visitors were undone when Ante Crnac found American International Josh Sargent and he was brought down by Rodon's trailing leg with the referee pointing to the spot.Sargent tucked home past Illan Meslier's despairing dive to net the first league goal Leeds have conceded on the road this season. This setback seemed to drive Leeds on and a superb effort from Wilfried Gnonto hit the base of the post with goalkeeper Angus Gunn rooted to the spot. Leeds injury woes suffered another setback on 20 minutes when Bulgarian international Ilia Gruev limped off and was replaced by Bournemouth loanee Joe Rothwell.

Just before half-time Leeds had a lucky escape when Callum Doyle cross forced a miss kick… Read more

Sky Blue Day For Leeds

Leeds United 3 Coventry City 0

Leeds who had only won one of their three previous home league games this season completely dominated The Sky Blues from the the first whistle but as is our big problem we had only one first half goal to show for this dominance. This goal came on 16 minutes when Junior Firpo played in Gnonto who finished brilliantly. City failed to register a single goal attempt in the first half and had it not been for a man-of-the-match display by keeper Ben Wilson Leeds would have been out of sight at half time.

Thankfully four minutes into the second half Leeds fans nerves were eased when Jayden Bogle finishing impeccably after playing a one-two with Ramazani. The points were secured on 79 minutes when Piroe who has only started one league game this term but has now scored in three of his last four appearances… Read more

Lovely Tribute To Sol

Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 2

There were very moving scenes before and during the game as both teams and their supporters paid tribute to Sol Bamba the former Cardiff and Leeds captain who died last month aged just 39. On 23 minutes the Bluebirds were dealt a huge blow when Joel Bagan was sent off for a foul on Wilfried Gnonto which the referee deemed to have denied a goalscoring opportunity. Seven minutes later Leeds opened the scoring when Largie Ramazani beat Cardiff goalkeeper Jak Alnwick with an excellent finish. Were it not for Alnwicks heroics in goal Leeds would have been out of sight.

He saved a poorly taken penalty in the second half from Pascal Struijk and our scoring record from the spot over the last 18 months is abysmal. Three minutes from time Joel Piroe put the game to bed with an excellent left footed finish.… Read more

If Only We Had A Striker !

Leeds United 0 Burnley 1

Ennislusc took a road trip to Clare hurling legend Anthony Daly's Murty Brownes pub in West Clare to watch the game live on Sky Sports while also celebrating the clubs ex President Liam Jones 70th birthday. Unfortunately the result didn't go our way but the travelling crew had a very enjoyable day and evening ! Leeds bossed possession and territory throughout a fiery match and should have led inside a minute when Mateo Joseph shot wide when clean through. It was a frustrating afternoon for Farke's men who dominated possession in the first half and had 72 per cent overall but were frustrated by a resolute Burnley defence.

Leeds did have claims for a penalty in the first half when Joe Worrall's tackle from behind won the ball but could easily have resulted in a spot-kick.On 18 minutes Burnley took the lead completely against the… Read more

Leeds Tame The Tigers

Leeds United 2 Hull City 0

Two wins in a row in two Yorkshire fixtures certainly had the Elland Road crowd singing at the end but it was not all plain sailing against a determined Hull side. The home side dominated in a dour first half with their only attempt on target being a 20-yard Ilia Gruev effort that was well saved. It took until 63rd minute to settle the nerves of the sell out home crowd. Manor Solomon who's on loan from Spurs and was very effective on the wing played a ball to the near post for Mateo Joseph to slot home.

On 81 minutes the points were secured and the crowd could enjoy the remaining minutes when Joseph and Junior Firpo combined brilliantly to tee up Joel Piroe to slot home. While not as impressive as the Wednesday game the points were all that mattered and Leeds… Read more

Farke's Men Back On Track

Sheffield Wednesday 0 Leeds United 2

In a hotly anticipated Yorkshire derby goals from US International Brenden Aaronson and Dan James gave Leeds a deserved victory over The Owels at Hillsborough. It was a much needed win for Daniel Farke after a stuttering start to the season. Leeds took the lead on 24 minutes when Aaronson, w slotted past keeper James Beadle after great work by Firpo and Joseph. On the stroke of half time Leeds nearly doubled their lead when James was just unable to get to Firpo's low cross from the left with a goal at his mercy.

Leeds got off to a superb start to the second half scoring after just three minutes. Once again Joseph who had a superb game played a brilliant ball to Dan James who flew past the full back and slotted home impressively. In truth Wednesday struggled to create clear-cut chances and never… Read more

Dire Football At The Hawthorns

West Bromwich Albion 0 Leeds United 0

This game is best forgotten with only two efforts on goal from both sides in the entire ninety minutes of what was a forgettable game. I'm sure many Sky viewers switched channels and certainly didn't show the Championship in a good light. Dutch striker Joel Piroe came in for Brighton bound Georginio Rutter but he was totally ineffective. The nearest Leeds got to score in a dour first half was when defender Pascal Struijk had a header from Ilia Gruev's cross deflected just wide.

It took until the 50th minute to see the first shot on target when The Baggies Jayson Molumby fired a right-foot shot from the edge of the box straight at Leeds keeper Illan Meslier. Late in the game Leeds captain Ethan Ampadu's header from Gruev's free-kick was saved with easy by keeper Alex Palmer. One can say the fans didn't… Read more
