Meslier Drops A Clanger

Leeds United 2 Swansea City 2

Leeds automatic promotion hopes suffered another blow as Swansea City's 96th-minute goal earned them a point in a drama filled afternoon at Elland Road. There to witness the drama were Ennislusc members Kieran Ryan, Steve Underwood, Brendan and Paul Shanahan, Finbar Power, Lisa Fitzgerald, Frankie Cahill, Peter Webb, Kevin Barry, Gary Collins and his partner April and their son Harvey Collins. The Whites went ahead after just 35 seconds when Brenden Aaronson finished off a goalmouth scramble by poking home from point-blank range. It was what every Leeds supporter needed to calm the nerves and hopefully drive on from here to secure the valueable three points but as we all know that's not LEEDS !

Against the run of play in the first half The Swans were awarded a penalty when Joe Rodon was adjudged to have fouled Lewis O Brien as both raced… Read more

A Point Gained Given The Start

Queens Park Rangers 2 Leeds United 2

Trips to London especially early morning kick offs are not a Leeds specialty and so it proved again today. Leeds started brightly with Joel Piroe volleying over but on seventeen minutes disaster struck. Japanese winger Saito took advantage of a ridiculous loose pass from Brenden Aaronson in his own box and hit a superb effort beyond Illan Meslier. It was a give away goal from the American who the fans are losing patience with quickly. On the half hour The R's made it 2-0. Paul Smyth combined down the right wing with Lucas Andersen and his cross into the box was headed home by QPR captain Steve Cooke who had a free header. Shocking defending once more from Leeds.

With five minutes remaining in the first half Leeds got a lifeline. Junior Firpo's effort deflecting off Hoops defender Fox into the net after Aaronson,… Read more

Leeds Tame The Lions

Leeds United 2 Millwall 0

Leeds got off to a brilliant if somewhat lucky start when in the third minute Manor Solomon's cut-back was deflected off the knee of Millwall defender Jake Cooper and past goalkeeper Lukas Jensen for an own goal. Joel Piroe thought he had added a second goal shortly after but his excellent finish was ruled out for an offside call as Aaronson who played the assist was in an offside position. Jake Cooper had The Lions best first half chance to headed over from a corner.

The second half was a very cagey affair but Solomon hit the crossbar with an effort before on 85 minutes Leeds sealed the points. Tanaka hit a screamer which nestled in the top corner and settled the home crowd. Leeds are now back on top after Sheffield United dropped points at home to Bristol City on Tuesday evening.

Missed Chances End Leeds Unbeaten League Run

Portsmouth 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds United's 17-game unbeaten league run came to an ended at Fratton Park where a more determined Pompey deserved their win. Leeds huffed and puffed while Piroe missed two gilt edged chances to score. Referee Robert Jones who had a mare denied the away side a stonewall penalty when Matt Richie kicked through Dan James in the penalty area. Sky Sports pundit and ex Leeds manager Neil Warnock described it as a disgrace that a penalty was not awarded and all the panel agreed it was a penalty but not in such forthright terms. Last August both sides played out a 3-3 draw at Elland Road and with Pompey in great form recently this was always going to be a tough game and so it proved. As Daniel Farke said in his post match interview "They are in red hot form at home and we… Read more

Take The Point And Move On

Leeds United 1 West Bromwich Albion 1

Leeds five game winning run came to an end when The Baggies came from behind to earn a deserved point. The home side looked a pale shadow of their previous two games which on reflection took it's toll on their energy reserves given those high intensity games. Leeds had an early scare when from Isaac Price's pass John Swift scuffed his low right-foot shot just past the post when it looked a certain score. Then on nine minutes Dan James who is having a tremendous season whipped in a cross and Junior Firpo who is on fire since Christmas powered home a header.

Six minutes before half time John Swift made amends for his missed chance when from his free kick Albion full back Darnell Furlong looped an angled header back over the head of stranded keeper Illan Meslier and inside the right… Read more

Leeds Lower The Blade

Sheffield United 1 Leeds United 3

Billed as the game of The Championship it certainly lived up to it's billing with Leeds coming out on top in what many called a six pointer game in the race for promotion. The Blades got off to the perfect start on fourteen minutes when once again Meslier was at fault. He palmed the ball into his own net after tipping Callum O'Hare's header on to the bar with Tyrese Campbell's follow-up hitting the post but somehow in his efforts to clear his lines he did the unthinkable. In fairness Leeds settled well after this setback but didn't create a whole lot in the scoring zone.

Leeds started the second half well and deservedly equalised on seventy one minutes. The much maligned Junior Firpo headed home following a Dan James cross which flew past Michael Cooper in the home goal. Leeds continued to attack… Read more

What A Substitution By Farke To Change The Game

Leeds United 2 Sunderland 1

With nineteen minutes remaining Pascal Struijk came on as a substitute for Tanaka and what an impact he had to rescue the game for Leeds. He headed a dramatic 95th-minute winner having earlier scored seven minutes after his introduction and sending Leeds back to the top of the Championship.

Sunderland took the lead on thirty two minutes against the run of play. French striker Wilson Isidor did excellently to spin past Leeds skipper Ethan Ampadu following Dan Ballard's cross and firing a low shot in off the far post. Ampadu certainly should have done much better but there again he's first and foremost a midfielder and not a central defender. This certainly woke up the home side and coming out for the second half they pinned Sunderland back but didn't threaten much until Struick headed Leeds level.

It looked as if the Black Cats had done enough… Read more

Leeds Sting The Hornets

Watford 0 Leeds United 4

Ennislusc member Mike Gibson had a great evening out at Vicarage Road as Leeds extend their lead at the top of the Championship table to five points all be Sheffield United have a game in hand. Tom Cleverley's Hornets was seen as a tough game for high flying Leeds so it was imperative that Farkes side got off to a quick start and so they did.Two goals inside nine first half minutes from Welsh International Dan James who's been on fire recently (20th and 29th min) was a fantastic start for The Whites. They added a third on 35 minutes from Manor Solomon and from there on Leeds were in the driving seat.

The game was put to bed on 62 minutes when brilliant close control from Joel Piroe saw him rattle the net. Ironically Watford had 69 per cent possession but only 6 shots to… Read more

Leeds Flying High

Coventry City 0 Leeds United 2

The Skyblues under new manager Frank Lampard had won their previous four games and this was seen as a big test for Farke's boys. However they were no match for a Leeds side who would have won by more but for wasteful finishing as they stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 14 games. The opening goal came on 17th minutes when Solomon played in Piroe down the left wing and and Leeds top scorer drilled into the bottom right corner. Nine minutes later Leeds added a second. Full-back Bogle weave his way into the Coventry area with only keeper Dovin to beat. However the home keeper came up with a howler playing the ball back to Bogle who gratefully tucked it away for his fourth goal of the season.

James then shot wide at the start of the second half and Meslier then… Read more

The Bluebirds No Answer To Rampant Leeds

Leeds United 7 Cardiff City 0

The Bluebirds arrived at Elland Road unbeaten in nine games having lost just one of their previous 13 away league games at Leeds (winning seven times) but on this occasion they were never in the game from the off. Leeds made a dream start with Dan James providing two assists inside the first 13 minutes as Brenden Aaronson and Manor Solomon both finished from close-range. Despite the home side dominating the possession stakes there were no more goals before the half time whistle.

Five minutes into the second half Dan James got his just rewards for his two first half assists. He scored following a great cross from Junior Firpo and the Wales winger then won a penalty on 65 minutes which Joel Piroe coolly slotted home. Leeds scored a fifth when sub Wilfried Gnonto slalomed through the Cardiff defence and slotted home from… Read more

What A Bore But A Valueable Point For Leeds

Burnley 0 Leeds United 0

In what must be the most boring game in The Championship for many a year a draw was always the likeliest outcome as neither team looked capable of scoring. The Clarets registered their 20th clean sheet of the season and the have the meanest defence in The Championship. I'm sure Daniel Farke would have taken a point before kick off but for the neutral watching on TV I fairly sure many tuned out after watching it for five to ten minutes.

Burnley never threatened and seemed intent on gaining a point while Leeds didn't create anything of note in the scoring stakes. The draw extended Leeds advantage at the top over second-placed Sheffield United to two points and they are now unbeaten in 11.

Canaries No Match For The Whites

Leeds United 2 Norwich City 0

The home side got off to a super start netting the fastest goal of the Championship season after just 31 seconds.Welsh International Dan James's cross found Manor Solomon and he fired home from six yards. This certainly settled everyone's nerves and had the home crowd in fine singing voice. Leeds dominated the game but had to wait until the 65 minute for their second goal. This time Solomon's returned the favour when his cross picked out James at the back post to tap home.

This season Leeds have 34 points from a possible 36 since their only home defeat of the season on the 14th September last to their next opponents Burnley. Bigger tests lie ahead for Leeds but this consistency and confidence can only drive on the team and supporters to the promise of life in The Premiership.

Welcome Ross And Mike

Ennislusc continues to attract new members and today we welcome Ross Molony and Mike Gibson to the fold. I am sure their great friend Eoin Doohan has given the lads the low down on our club where we discuss everything Leeds and literally anything else that happens to take their fancy on any given day.

As has already been pointed out to the lads on our What App group by Alan Murphy which sums up or club brilliantly "A dysfunctional one :-)... but a very close and loyal one. MOT "

Great to have you on board lads and enjoy the roller coaster as Leeds fans. MARCHING ON TOGETHER

Ennislusc 24th Anniversary

Today marks the founding of Ennislusc ( 2001) that started over a few pints in Fafa Considines Bar in Parnell Street which at the time was run by Paul " Nuggy " Nihill. The late great Mike McNamara, Shaun " Bombs" McCarthy, Cyril " Slim" Corry and Nuggy hatched an idea to form a club given the interest in Leeds United with the idea of hopefully in the future organising trips to Elland Road. And boy has their dream of a supporters club grown beyond theirs and ours wildest dreams.

Trips to Elland Road became an annual event and on many occasions we had the pleasure of meeting footballing legends of our youth who previously we only saw on TV. The likes of Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer, Mike Jones, Paul Madeley,Johnny Giles etc who always had time for a chat and a photo on days we'll never forget. The friendships… Read more

Back On Top

Leeds United 3 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Leeds got off to a dream start in this Yorkshire Derby when scoring after just three minutes with their first attack. Joe Rothwell's brilliant pass caught the Owls defence off guard but keeper Beadle looked to have it under control. However he failed to hold the ball and Manor Solomon coolly slotted home with two defenders stranded on the line. This set back seemed to wake Wednesday up and Leeds were not dominating proceedings at home as has been their style all season. Indeed it took a brilliant tackle from Ethan Ampadu to stop Josh Windass getting a shot off after being played in on goal while Yan Valery had an effort into the side netting.

The second half was much of the same but the home crowd were baying for that second goal to easy the nerves. However they had to wait until the… Read more

What A Howler Once Again From Meslier

Hull City 3 Leeds United 3

Words fail me to explain the horrendous mistakes than Illan Meslier made and caused Leeds to drop two precious points when they were cruising to victory. Not for the first time has he been at fault and we all remember the 97th minute blooper he made at The Stadium of Light to deny Leeds a deserved win last October. Indeed if we fail to get promotion this year many fingers will be pointed in his direction as to date I reckon he's cost us 8-10 points due to his goalkeeping errors. Why has Karl Darlow not been given a chance in goal I ask you ? Time for Farke to stop being too faithful to Meslier and make that change as it's obvious his confidence is shattered.

The Tigers took the lead on six minutes when Abu Kamara beat Wober before lobbing a stranded Meslier.… Read more

Two Points Thrown Away

Leeds United 1 Blackburn Rovers 1

A goal on the stroke of ninety minutes for Rovers denied Leeds a 10th successive home league win in a game they have only themselves to blame for not seeing out. Two minutes prior to this Leeds were awarded a controversial penalty when Dominic Hyam was adjudged to have felled substitute Mateo Joseph in the area. Up stepped centre half Pascal Struijk and he coolly dispatched the spot kick to the onion net. However Leeds achilles heal came back to haunt them when the once again they conceded from a corner. The far post corner was headed back by Hyman and a miss kick by Danny Batth from five yards out somehow found its way to the net.

It was a hammer blow for the home side but they can have no complaints as Rovers defended brilliantly throughout the game and their game plan… Read more

Late Late Point But Oh So Precious

Preston North End 1 Leeds United 1

The 5,656 Leeds supporters in the away end at Deepdale must have thought this was going to be a shocking defeat as the clock ticked into the 93rd minute but thankfully we got out of jail thanks to an own goal. Dominating everywhere but on the scoreboard the visitors got caught on a counter attack in the 23rd minute. The counter attack started in the Preston area following a stay pass from Rothwell. Milutin Osmajic spun around Byram and hared down the right flank before playing a brilliant cross in behind the Leeds defence for left back Brad Potts to blaze home despite Bogles best efforts. Meslier got a hand to it but failed to keep it out and considering it came off Potts's shin one would have been very disappointed that Meslier hadn't done better.

Leeds best chance of the first… Read more

Dominant Performance Against The U's

Leeds United 4 Oxford United 0

In a game that the home side completely dominated with 70 per cent possession and 12 attempts on goal one could say the result wasn't in doubt in what was a relaxing evening for the home supporters. On nine minutes Welsh International Dan James slid in the opening goal from close range following a mazey run and cross from Manor Solomon. Despite their dominance Leeds had to wait until the 57th minute for their second when defender Jayden Bogle combining with Brenden Aaronson to slot into the bottom corner of the net.

It was only a matter of if and when Leeds scored again such was their dominance and the third came on 67 minutes when Solomon set up Brendan Aaronson to fire home. The scoring was completed on 73 minutes when Man Of The Match Manor Solomon crashing the ball home from a tight… Read more

Boxing Day Blues For The Potters

Stoke City 0 Leeds United 2

In the first of two away Christmas games Leeds knew that if they won they would close the gap on Sheffield United who slipped up earlier in the day so the motivation was certainly there for a win. On a night where it was next to impossible to see the game on Sky Sports given the freezing fog Leeds put in a dogged performance to down The Potters. The much maligned Joel Piroe scored twice for Leeds the first coming on three minutes before half time when Ethan Ampadu played him through.

The clinching goal came on 63 minutes when Dan James found Piroe with an exquisite cross and he headed home with aplomb. A super away win and a great start to the hectic Christmas period for Farke's boys.
