Stalemate At The KC Stadium

Hull City 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds have still to register a first win or goal under new manager Neil Warnock after they were held to a goalless draw at Yorkshire rivals Hull.
This was Warnock's third game in charge of the Whites and it provided further evidence that a late play-off charge may be beyond them. Hull found Leeds goalkeeper Andy Lonergan in fine form and he kept United in the game with four first half saves.

United who came into this contest more in the second half and are now three points worse off and have played two games more than many of the teams directly above them. A top six place looks a remote possibility at this stage but stranger things have happened. The Tigers dominated the first half with winger Cameron Stewart firing an angled drive over before he and Corry Evans drew good saves from Lonergan… Read more

Saints Keeper Denies Unlucky United

Leeds United 0 Southampton 1

Saints keeper Kelvin Davis produced a string of fine saves which duly won him the Man of The Match Award and denied United at least five goal scoring opportunities. Davis was mobbed by his teammates after the final whistle, a testament to his inspired display, and the endeavour of the hosts who created numerous opportunities and will wonder how they ended up with nothing from the game.

Rickie Lambert's first-half strike extended Southampton's lead at the top of the table to four points and dealt a blow to Leeds's play-off hopes. Centre forward Lambert who joined the Saints two seasons ago from Bristol City put the visitors in front after quarter of an hour, smashing in a volley after Jack Cork's cross was nodded down by Tadanari Lee.

Leeds dominated for large parts of the game but failed to find an equaliser despite having 12 shots… Read more

Dour Start For Warnock

Portsmouth 0 Leeds United 0

Neil Warnock's first game in charge of Leeds ended in frustration as Portsmouth produced a battling display at Fratton Park. After being deducted 10 points for the second time in the last number of years for once again going into administration it was expected that Pompey would be on a downer. However they played with a great enthusiasm that belies their position in the Championship table and deserves a share of the spoils.

Leeds striker Ross McCormack came closest to breaking the deadlock when his shot hit the crossbar and bounced down on to the goal-line.
Robert Snodgrass headed home the rebound, but his follow-up effort was ruled out for offside. Leeds remain four points adrift of the play-offs while Portsmouth fell behind Coventry to 23rd in the table.

Great Start For Caretaker

Bristol City 0 Leeds United 3

Managerless Leeds claimed a first away win in five matches with a comfortable victory over nine-man Bristol City at Ashton Gate. Robert Snodgrass gave Leeds the lead with a low shot on 40 mins before City's James Wilson was shown red for bringing down Scottish striker Ross McCormack.

City were down to nine men when Yannick Bolasie was shown a second yellow on 57 mins for two reckless challenges on Spurs loan signing Adam Smith .McCormack added a second for Leeds when he struck home an angled shot before Luciano Becchio completed the scoring by converting Aidan White's cross in the 92 minute.

Stand in manager Neil Redfern will be delighted with the winning start but he will be well aware that they played second fiddle to City unitl Snoddy scored on their first attack of the first half.Still a winning start and more… Read more

Scandalous Defending Once Again

Leeds United 1 Birmingham City 4

Nikola Zigic scored four goals, including a seven-minute hat-trick, as Birmingham thrashed Leeds at Elland Road to maintain their promotion push. This game signaled the end of Simon Grayson's reign and naive defending has been his downfall in his three seasons with United. And we used give out about George Graham !

Ross McCormack put Leeds ahead with a low effort before Zigic headed home Wade Elliot's cross to equalise. The striker fired his side into the lead after 61 minutes and added to it with headers in the 64th and 68th to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games. Leeds now sit 10th in the table and face a major challenge to end the season in the top six.

Lucky Win But We'll Take It

Leeds United 3 Ipswich Town 1

Fabian Delph was handed his second debut for Leeds just 24 hours after completing his loan move from Aston Villa. There was also a place for Mikael Forssell in the starting line-up in place of Luciano Becchio who has been off form of late and only a pale shadow of the player he was last season. Once again United were slow to start with Ipswich opened the scoring when Andy Drury found the bottom corner of the net from 20 yards on 35 minutes.

The defining moment in the game came on 70 minutes when keeper Alex McCarthy was red carded for handling outside his area before Snodgrass levelled from close range four minutes later. United took the lead on 82 mins when McCormack tapped into an empty net before Becchio's third from a tight angle in injury time

While this is a welcome victory it… Read more

More Agony On The Road

Crystal Palace 1 Leeds United 1

Scottish International Robert Snodgrass ( who had his appendix removed two weeks ago ) came off the bench fto rescued a point for Leeds vs ten man Palace. Chris Martin who is on loan from Norwich gave the Eagles an early lead on six minutes when firing into the bottom corner of Andy Lonergan's goal.

However Dougie Freedmen boys were dealt a blow just before half time when Sean Scannell got a second yellow card for a clumsy challenge on Danny Pugh. Leeds had responded well to the early setback with Pugh blasting Adam Clayton's corner over the bar from six yards, before Speroni was called upon to save well from Clayton and Tom Lees to preserve Palace's lead.

United pressed forward after the break and McCormack and Lees both went close before Snodgrass levelled on 63 minutes. United could have departed Selhurst Park with all three… Read more

2nd Mike Mac Golf Classic

Plans are already afoot for the second Mike Mac Golf Classic at the Ennis Golf Club with Saturday 14th April been penciled in for the tournament. Following last years outstanding success the committee is confident that the classic will be well supported once again this year.

Last year nearly €7,000 was distributed to Cahercalla Hospice, The John Giles Foundation, Ennis Old Folk, The McMahon Fund,The Clare Crusaders and Clarecastle Day Care Centre. While that figure was beyond our wildest dreams we hope once again this year to help out many local charities in the area. Of course the star of the show last year was the appearance of John Giles at the classic and once again contact had been made with John and the committee are hopeful he will once ahain grace us with his presence.

The committee is arranging a meeting in Moroneys on Thursday 26th January to kick start the… Read more

Seventh Heaven

Leeds United 2 Burnley 1

A goal seven minutes into injury time from Ross McCormack earned Leeds a dramatic win against 10-man Burnley in front of a crowd of 27,295, many of whom had left Elland Road before this unlikely victory. With United a goal down and 88 minutes on the clock Leeds were dropping down the table and the bookies had Grayson on his way out the door. However in a frantic seven minutes Leeds season was resurrected.

Grayson made five changes to his starting line-up after the 4-1 hammering at Barnsley and among those were debutant Andros Townsend, who has joined on loan from Tottenham, youngster Zac Thompson, and defender Alex Bruce, who was recalled from a loan spell at Huddersfield.
Simon Grayson's Leeds side were without a win in four going into the match and the manager must have been fearing the worst.

Eddie Howe's side went ahead despite full… Read more

DISGRACEFUL PERFORMANCE

Barnsley 4 Leeds United 1

There was no Christmas cheer for Leeds today at Oakwell as The Tykes completed the double over United having beaten us in November when we were at Elland Road on our club trip. This was a inept performance and indeed we only scored in injury time when Barnsley in truth should have been at least 6-0 such was their total dominance. As I 've said before I think Grayson must go now, three years on and we are progressing downwards and confidence among the supporters is at a low ebb.

Substitute Vaz Te ( he also scored at Elland Road) struck a hat-trick as Barnsley ended a run of three consecutive defeats. The Portuguese fired past Andy Lonergan on 16 mins to open the scoring after referee Neil Swarbrick had played a good advantage. His ninth and 10th of the season, separated by Craig Davies long-range effort,… Read more

Six In A Row Defeats To The Rams

Derby County 1 Leeds United 0

The Rams recent dominance over Leeds continued as Jamie Ward's second-half strike earned the Rams a sixth straight win over the Whites and in truth one that was fully deserved. Over the 90 mins Nigel Clough mens created the more clear cut chances and continued their indian sisn over The Whites with thier six straight win in a row over Graysons boys.

Ward, who hit the post in the first half, fired in from close range after United keeper Andy Lonergan parried his initial effort. Snoddy went closest for Leeds but his free-kick was was tipped over by Rams keeper Frank Fielding. The result leaves Leeds without a win in three games and hopefully Grayson (who celebrated 3 years in charge at Leeds this week) will be busy in the January transfer window as new recruits are badly needed to inject some confidence into our promotion… Read more

Happy Christmas To All Our Members and Friends

It's that time of the year when Santa brings some cheers to young and old alike and boy was it a fast year. El Presidente summarized the year excellently in the guest book and as I've already stated here before I don't think Grayson is the man to bring us back to The Premiership but hopefully he'll make me eat my words next May !

On behalf of the committee of Ennislusc I would like to wish each and every one of our members, their families and friends a happy and peaceful Christmas. Here's to more thrills and spills following The Whites in 2012. Marching On Together

Dire Home Form Continues

Leeds United 0 Reading 1

Reading striker Simon Church scored the game's only goal in the second minute as the Royals beat play-off rivals Leeds United at Elland Road.
The Wales international controlled Jobi McAnuff's pass and put an angled finish past Andy Lonergan from 12 yards after less than two minutes on the clock.

Jamie McAnuff caused all sorts of problems to the home defence all through the game and was rightly voted Man Of The Match. Leeds remain sixth despite the defeat, struggled in front of goal, but Danny Pugh's shot from inside the area was well saved by Adam Federici. The Royals, who beat another promotion rival in West Ham a week ago, are now just one place behind

This was another dire home performance akin to our visit to Elland Road for the Barnsley game. Why can we not get it together at home ? It looks like we lack… Read more

The Late Late Show

Watford 1 Leeds United 1

Robert Snodgrass scored an injury-time penalty(95th min) as Leeds salvaged a draw against Watford in the Championship. To say we got out of jail was a understatement as Watford missed a penalty of their own with just two minutes of normal time remaining. Marvin Sordell had his penalty chance after being fouled by Patrick Kisnorbo but Alex McCarthy saved and Snoddy made Watford pay by equalizing after Nyron Nosworthy fouled Finnish International Mika Vayrynen. United were dealt a blow before kick off when captain Johnny Howson was ruled out with Danny Pugh taking over his position in the middle of the park.

Watford started the game much better than Leeds and were rewarded when Kightly ( on loan from Wolves) got the better of Kisnorbo and unleashed a superb, angled effort from the edge of the area past McCarthy, who was playing his final game of… Read more

Gary Speed RIP Is Our Inspiration

Leeds United 2 Millwall 0

Scottish International Robert Snodgrass scored both Leeds goals against Millwall as Elland Road paid a moving tribute to former player Gary Speed who died on Sunday last.Gary played in United's title-winning side in 1992 and team-mates Gary McAllister, Gordon Strachan and David Batty laid a wreath before kick-off. All three were very emotional with tears flowing in honour of their former team mate.

The big screen showed a video of Gary Speed's goals before the game and Leeds fans chanted his name for 11 minutes, from the 11th minute, in recognition of his shirt number as they had done during their midweek 4-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
In a poor first half United had their keeper Alex McCarthy to thank for keeping the scores level when he dived to his right to push Darius Henderson's downward header round his post.

Millwall started the second half brightly, with Scott Barron's… Read more

Didn't See That Coming

Nottingham Forest 0 Leeds United 4

Leeds paid the best possible tribute to former number 11 Gary Speed with an emphatic win over Nottingham Forest on an emotional night at the City Ground. To say we expected such a performance is beyond our wildest dreams considering the drivel we watch on Saturday.
Applause before the match for Speed, who died at the weekend, was followed by 11 minutes of chants from the 11th minute by Leeds fans.

Simon Grayson, who was a great friend of Gary after they signed schoolboy forms with Leeds on the same day when they were 14 had asked his players to win the game in Speed's memory and they did not disappoint. How appropriate it was that Leeds's first goal came almost exactly at the end of the United fans 11 minutes of concentrated chants for Speed, with Snodgrass picking up the ball midway into the Forest… Read more

Grayson Must Go

Leeds United 1 Barnsley 2

Barnsley won at Elland Road for the first time since 1990 with one of their best performances of the season to add to Leeds troubles at home. The visitors went ahead when Jim O'Brien squared for Ricardo Vaz Te, whose scuffed shot looped in over Alex McCarthy.

It was 2-0 when Man Of Match Jacob Butterfield's strike was pushed by Alex McCarthy into the path of Craig Davies, who finished with easy and not a Leeds defender in sight. On 55 minutes Ross McCormack fired in a 25-yard free-kick to give Leeds some hope but Barnsley hung on despite David Perkins second booking.

This was a deplorable match, two poor teams and daylight robbery to have to pay £36 to watch. After two superb away victories we were expecting a lively contest and predictions such as 3-1 were banded about before kick off. How wrong we were. Bar… Read more

20th Ennislusc Trip Looming

Tomorrow week Friday 25th November our first club trip of the year will take place. Unfortunately due to the economic situation, the closeness to Christmas and the difficulty in getting to Leeds this will be our smallest group to visit the hallowed ground since our formation over 10 years ago. Indeed on this occasion we have a group heading over on Friday morning ( Slim,Marty B, Bryan Woods, Leon Quirke, Kevin Barry along with Johnny & Marian Moroney) while the remainder including Nuggy, Tommy Kelly and Josie Hestor will head over on Saturday morning.

While it may be our smallest squad yet I'm sure we'll hit the usual spots like The Ship, Flares's etc and hopefully we'll collect the three points on offer on Saturday afternoon. Oh and I forgot the traditional sing song in The Marriott on Saturday / Sunday morning. Bring it on. MOT
