Well Done John And Mannix

Last Saturday in the Fairgreen a Chelsea Supporters X1 took on a Leeds United Supporters X1 in a charity match to raise funds for the Ennis Voices of Autism and the Ennis Youth Centre. The game was the brainchild of Ennislusc members John Brooks and Gearoid (Mannix)Mannion ably assisted by Jim McMahon, Chairman of the Ennis Chelseas Supporters Club.

The game ended in a victory for the Blues but more importantly over €1,100 to date has been collected for these worthy causes. It was great to see Paul (Nuggy) Nihill, Richie Lynch, Slim Corry, the ageless Steve Underwood and John Brooks to name but a few roll back the years and see them togged out in the Leeds colours.

That evening a great night was had in Mickey Kerin's pub where aching limbs were soothed with copious pints of porter. Already plans are being made for next years event with Ennislusc… Read more

Six Goal Thriller At Elland Road

Leeds United 3 Blackburn Rovers 3

A late strike from substitute Ruben Rochina strike ensured Blackburn left Elland Road with a point as an entertaining encounter with Leeds ended in a draw. At the game were Ennislusc members and great friends John Galvin and Kevin Greene who was celebrating his 50th birthday and had received a trip to Elland Road from his wife Mary as his birthday gift. Great thinking there Mary.

Rovers handed a start to new £8m striker Jordan Rhodes, were 2-0 up after 30 minutes with goals from Marcus Olsson and Nuno Gomes. Former Rovers striker El Hadji Diouf pulled one back before Ross McCormack equalised in the 56th minute.
Luciano Becchio then gave Leeds the lead before Rochina struck for a point.

John Galvin has a good account of his experience of the game on the guestbook.

Becchio Sinks The Posh

Peterborough United 1 Leeds United 2

Luciano Becchio took his tally for the season to four goals as he scored twice to help Leeds win at London Road. Becchio's first came in the seventh minute as Luke Varney crossed from the left for the simplest of close-range finishes. It was 2-0 shortly after the break when Ross McCormack picked out his Argentine strike partner to head home.
However Leeds seem to sit back and when Posh scored with 18 mins remaining it was squeaky bum time for the United fans.Posh's goal came from Michael Bostwick who seized on a poor clearance from David Norris and lashed home. Thankfully United remained strong at the back and held on for a great three points and 7th place in the Championship.Early days but things are looking good. Mot

Tuesday Night Blues Once Again

Blackpool 2 Leeds United 1

Boyd by their impressive victory on Saturday over Wolves Leeds were looking forward to going to Bloomfield Road. United with 8 changes in their line up from the team that played at Blackpool last season took the lead when Tom Lees met a Ross McCormack corner at the back post to head home.

However Blackpool were full of running and Man of the match Thomas Ince(son of Man U legend Paul) who scored twice in Saturday's opening-day win over Millwall wasted a good chance to equalise when he fired over from a Gary Taylor-Fletcher cross. Midfielder Isaiah Osbourne hit the post before ex Leeds defender Stephen Crainey crossed on 75 mins for Nouha Dicko to equalise from close range. Matters got worse five minutes later when Tom Ince set up Matt Phillips to score the winner and in fairness on their second half performance it was… Read more

Super Start To Our Season

Leeds United 1 Wolves 0

Luciano Becchio ensured Neil Warnock's Leeds ( who had 8 players making their debut fot the club) started the season with a win as Wolves suffered a deflating return to the Championship at Elland Road. Argentine Becchio settled the game when he headed the only goal in the 17th minute following an inch-perfect cross by birthday boy Ross McCormack.

New signing Jamaican International Rodolph Austin had an effort cleared off the line while McCormack also went close to scoring in a frantic first half. Having won on the opening day for the past two seasons, this was Wolves' first away defeat on the first day since they lost 2-1 at Stoke on 8 August 2004. Wolves were relegated from the Premier League after winning just five games last season, and only one of their last 24.

Austin had already seen an effort hacked off the line… Read more

Palace Decided As Club Trip For New Season

Well it has been decided that Crystal Palace at Elland Road on 23rd Nov will be the club's first trip of the 2012/13 season. There were not many options available and after consultation with club members it was decided to attend The Eagles game. We will be flying from Shannon on 22nd Nov at 7am to Manchester and getting a train down to Leeds and hopefully arriving at The Marriott around 11am.

Our trip home will involve us departing from Birmingham at 5pm on Sunday evening arriving back in Shannon at 18.40. Presently we have 12 booked on the trip and anyone in interested in travelling can contact Paul (Nuggy) Nihill. Incidentally this will be the 22nd club trip since our formation. Marching On Together

Wolves First Up For United At Home on 18th August

What a great start to the new season for Neil Warnocks boys with Wolves at Elland Road on 18th August which is a stern test following their relegation from The Premiership. And it doesn't get any easier with Blackpool away on Tuesday 21st August at Bloomfield Road. Now lets hope Warnock can get in some new faces and we can make a fresh run for promotion. Unfortunately it all depends on if Mr Bates loosens the purse strings to buy in some quality players which I fear will not be the case. Here's hoping I'm wrong. Take a look at the fixture list for the new season and whit your appetite and see which games we may target for our annual trips. Marching On Together

Dire Footie But Mighty Weekend

Our 22nd club trip certainly won't be remembered for the football but then again that's only a small part of our trips to Leeds. It's the friendships, fun and crack that makes these trips so memorable. We had 35 on the trip with some driving up to Dublin on Friday afternoon ( special thanks to drivers Kieran Ryan, Nuggy and Howardy), some going on Friday morning from Shannon, others meeting us in Dublin, members making their way from Manchester and London and Damian Morris coming over on Saturday morning.

Friday night was taken up with some pints in the newly refurbished Marriott Hotel bar and then on to Revivals ( formerly Flares ) nightclub to relive our youth to music of the 70's, 80's and 90's. The less said about the game vs Leicester City the better. Suffice to say we don't expect to see many of the first eleven take to… Read more

Off On Our 22nd Trip To Elland Road

Tomorrow at 12 noon from the West County four cars will set off for Dublin Airport on our first leg of the journey to the holy grail for all Leeds fans, Elland Road. Unlike previous years we are not traveling from Shannon as unfortunately we couldn't find a flight to suit so our next best option is to fly direct from the capital. However we won't be the first to arrive in Leeds as Marian Moroney will travel over on Friday morning to Manchester and will be in Leeds for 9am !

We have also other members such as Noel and Gary Collins, George and Gary Browne, Damian Morris and Ollie and Eoin O Loughlin making their own way to Leeds so come kick off at 12.30pm on Saturday we will have 35 members at the game which is a fantastic number in this day and age. Despite our disappointing… Read more

McCormack And Paynter Sink Posh

Leeds United 4 Peterborough United 1

Billy Paynter scored twice for Leeds as they came from behind to beat Peterborough and earn Neil Warnock his first home victory since taking over.
Ross McCormack took his tally for the season to 19 as he also grabbed two following Joe Newell's opener for Posh. Former Swindon striker Paynter has only scored once since signing for Leeds two years ago however after being handed a rare start ahead of Luciano Becchio, in one of five changes made by Warnock after defeat by Derby on Monday, he took his opportunity with flying colours.

The 27-year-old had a first-minute one-on-one saved and then had a second-minute header cleared off the line, before Newell took advantage of a Charlie Taylor error to score from an acute angle. Prolific Posh forward George Boyd should have made it two just seconds later and was made to pay when… Read more

Classic Day For The Mike Mac At Ennis Golf Club

The only worry the committee had facing into Saturday morning was how would the weather fare but obviously Mac had a word with The Boss and we were provided with a beautiful day for the 2nd Mike Mac Golf Classic at the Ennis Golf Club. While the number of teams competing was down on last year which is understandable give the economic climate none the less the event was once again a outstanding success. We are indebted to our main sponsors PJ Kelly's Bar, Carmody St., Considine's Bar, Parnell St., Moroney's Bar Market St., Doohan Financial Planning, Dundalk and P&M Golf Superstore, Ennis and all our tee box sponsors who once again were not found wanting, Mile Buiochas to one and all. Also many thanks to Eddie Hayes (Painting Contractor)and TJ Scanlon (Ventilation & Stainless Steel Specialist) for sponsoring nearest the pin in two at the 2nd and at the… Read more

Roll On The Mac Classic

Well we are a day away from the 2nd Mike Mac Classic and all is in readiness for another great day While the number of teams are down on last year which is to be expected in the present climate the committee is more than happy with our present number of 34 teams. Tee box sponsorship is well on target and hopefully the man above will smile on us with a fine day. I'm sure Mac will have a quite word in his ear for us.

The course is in pristine condition thanks to the efforts of green keepers Kevin Brown and David Hoey so scoring should be above average. Guest of honour John Giles will be arriving at the course at 10.30am and he tees off at 2.00pm with Slim Corry, Eoin Doohan and Pail Nuggy Nihill. Looking forward to seeing all our members and friends at the Ennis Golf… Read more

10 United Fail To Hold Out

Reading 2 Leeds United 0

Reading moved top of the Championship after Adam Le Fondre's late double broke the resistance of 10-man Leeds. In a feisty first half, Leeds had Zac Thompson sent off after 13 minutes for a rash tackle on Jobi McAnuff. And in truth Danny Pugh and Michael Browne could have followed him for a early shower as their two footed tackles were far worse and this was proved by TV replays.

Leeds frustrated Reading and went close when Ross McCormack's shot hit the outside of the post and Robert Snodgrass wasted a gilt-edged chance.
However with time running out Le Fondre chested in Hal Robson-Kanu's nod across goal after 84 minutes and sidefooted a second on 89 mins in for Reading's win. It was a hard-fought success for Brian McDermott's side against a Leeds team who resisted resolutely for the most part and whose play-off hopes are… Read more

This Is Unacceptable

Leeds United 0 Derby County 2

Derby punished Michael Brown's red card to record a seventh successive win against Leeds thanks to goals from Craig Bryson and Steven Davies. This was the third consecutive game that Leeds ended the game without the full compliment of players and the eight time (we have had 9 players dismissed, two in one game) in all this season.

Minutes after Brown's first-half dismissal for a stomach-high challenge on Theo Robinson, Bryson curled a 25-yard effort past keeper Andy Lonergan. In the second half Derby continued to exploit their one-man advantage and Davies had time to slot home a rebound from his own shot.
The result extends manager Neil Warnock's wait for a first Elland Road win to five games since he took control of the team in February.

Let's hope we see changes for next season with many of these players exiting Elland Road and discipline becoming… Read more
