The Blues Once Again For The Whites

Leeds United 0 Birmingham City 1

Leroy Lita's brilliant 30-yard drive clinched a late victory for struggling Birmingham at Leeds.
Neither side impressed in a dour game before Lita's strike handed the perfect 40th birthday present to Blues boss Lee Clark. It was Birmingham's third consecutive league victory over United only on this occasion Nikola Zigic didn't score for the Blues as he wasn't in the match day squad.

Leeds best chance fell to El-Hadji Diouf whose point-blank header was saved by England keeper Jack Butland. For long periods it had looked as though a goalless draw would be the outcome of this Championship clash with opportunities scarce and only Birmingham's Ravel Morrison and Leeds Diouf looking dangerous. However a moment of brilliance on 76mins from Leroy Lita settled this disappointing clash and United ended the week with only one point from their two home games which doesn't inspire confidence as… Read more

Poor Display But We'll Take The Point

Leeds United 1 Charlton Athletic 1

Leeds extended their unbeaten Championship run to six matches with a dour 1-1 draw against Chris Powell's Charlton. David Norris fired in Luke Varney's knockdown to put United on course to climb into the play-off positions on 37th mins

However Charlton hit back on 50th mins through debutant Dorian Dervite as the Addicks extended their unbeaten run at Leeds to a fifth match.
Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, playing his 500th career game, twice denied Bradley Wright-Phillips in the dying stages to secure the points.

Another poor home display by United which was acknowledged by Neil Warnock in his after match press conference.Still for us Leeds fans it's not a Tuesday night defeat and we are one point off the play off places which we would gladly have taken before the season kicked off.

Congratulations Leon

Last Sunday in Sixmilebridge Ruan won the Clare Intermediate Hurling Title at the expense of Crusheen after contesting their third final in a row. Unfortunately defeat was their lot in 2010 and 2011 but now they will play in the Clare Senior Championship next year.

Every present at left corner back for Ruan was Ennislusc member Leon Quirke. All his friends in the club would like to extend their good wishes and look forward to seeing him togging against Eire Og next year.

Night Of Humiliation For Leeds

Sheffield Wednesday 1 Leeds United 1

Michael Tonge's stunning equaliser gave Leeds a point at Hillsborough but the game was marred during the celebrations of Tonge's goal as a Leeds fan struck Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in the face. In what was one of the darkest hours in Leeds United history this will have serious repercussions for the club with fines and a ban on away supporters sure to follow. What this mindless moron did could even jeopardise the proposed takeover that all us Leeds fan crave but only time will tell on that front.

It must be said that over the course of the game Leeds can consider themselves extremely lucky to have come away with a point that they hardly deserved. For all of the first half Wednesday were by far the better team and Paddy Kenny was luck to get away when he fumbled a Jay Bothroyd… Read more

Leeds vs Sheffield Wed Live On Sky

Tomorrow evening Leeds play Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough with the game live on Sky Sports 1 and kick off 7.45pm. This is a big ask for United but a win here would put us up to second place in the Championship even if it was only for a short time before Saturday's games. As usual Ennislusc will be gathering in Moroney's for the game so come on down and enjoy the banter. Marching On Together

Spot On Luciano

Leeds United 1 Barnsley 0

Luciano Becchio's first-half penalty was enough to give Leeds a narrow win over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. Referee Darren Deadman gave the spot-kick despite Stephen Foster appearing to foul Lee Peltier outside the area. This decision certainly didn't go down well with Tykes manager Keith Hill who made his feelings know in the post match interview. Argentine striker Becchio has now netted in each of Leeds five league games at Elland Road this season and has nine goals in all competitions.

The goal on 42 mins came against the run of play with Barnsley dominating the opening exchanges, as they looked to continue a six-match unbeaten run against United. Ex Nottingham Forest striker Marlon Harewood came closest to equalising with a bullet like header forcing a unbelievable save from Paddy Kenny. It was not one of United's better performances but with 5 games in 14 days one has… Read more

Kevin Davies Two Headed Corners Deny United

Bolton Wanderers 2 Leeds United 2

Two goals from veteran Kevin Davies earned Bolton a draw against in-form Leeds. Bolton old-boy Diouf named captain for the night on his return to the Reebok Stadium was once again the top man for Leeds. However it was Bolton who were rewarded for their early dominance when Davies powerfully headed in a corner from Chris Eagles on 14 mins. Five minutes later Eagles nearly made it two nil when his twenty yard effort hit the butt of the Leeds post with Paddy Kenny well beaten.

Leeds levelled on the stroke of half time through Sam Byram's glancing header following a cross from Dioufy. Then on 50 mins Byram was felled in the area by Stephen Warnock and Luciano Becchio converted the spot kick to give United a unlikely lead. Then cometh the hour cometh the man and another Davies header from a Martin… Read more

Dioufy's Winning Matches, Dioufy's Winning Games

Bristol City 2 Leeds United 3

It was the El-Hadji Diouf show at Ashton Gate as he scored twice to help Leeds beat a stubborn Bristol City. Jamaican International Rodolph Austin headed against the home side's woodwork before Diouf steered in a low Sam Byram cross for the opener on 63 mins. Midfielder Albert Adomah's header from a Richard Foster super cross levelled matters for Derek McInnes side on 70 mins.

Then on 80 mins Lucianno Becchio's beat two defenders before laying the ball off to Diouf to put United back in front. Leeds maintained their pressure and gave themselves a two-goal cushion when on loan Stoke midfielder Michael Tonge gave keeper Tom Heaton no chance with his superb 25-yard strike. Austin's own goal in injury time gave Leeds a minor cause for concern before the final whistle confirmed a fourth league win of the season.

It ended a super week… Read more

Following on from our recent AGM we would like to welcome our new Club President Dom O Rourke to the office and thank Slim Corry for his two years in the role in which he oversaw the inaugural running of the Mike Mac Golf Classic. The rest of the committee has stayed as is and we would like to take this opportunity to thank Mike Jones for his efforts promoting the club's Facebook page.

Our website has now topped 1.65m hits since it's inception which is a phenomenal amount for a any site. The club is also looking at sourcing new gear for members and Kevin Greene is looking after this on our behalf. Our new year trip proposal is the Brighton game on April 27th which considering how well The Seagulls are going at present should be a cracking game.

Last night the club presented €2,000 to Mary Maloney from… Read more

Revenge Is Sweet

Leeds United 2 Nottingham Forest 1

Victory for Leeds came on the same day owner Ken Bates announced that he is in advanced talks with a banking institution over a proposed investment in the club. This will come as music to all Leeds supporters but after so many false dawns we won't get our hopes up until Mr Bates is walking out the gates of Elland Road after signing on the dotted line.

Leeds short term loan signing El Hadji Diouf frequently caused problems for The Foresters and his cross on 14th mins fell for Luciano Becchio to score his seventh goal of the campaign. Considering Forest beat United 7-3 in the corresponding fixture last season this was a super start for Warnocks boys. It got even better for United on 25mins when Man Of Match
Diouf threaded a pass through for Dominic Poleon to swept in his first senior goal.… Read more

Farewell To Our Dear Colleague Jimmy Allard

It was with deep sadness that we heard yesterday morning of the passing of our dear friend and Ennislusc member Jimmy Allard. A native of Mullingar, Jimmy grew up on the banks of the Royal Canal where he swam and fished as a young boy. Here he learnt how to set night lines to catch the pike which were decimating the trout stock and so his love of fly fishing began. Jimmy moved to Newmarket on Fergus in the 60's living in Ballycar with his wife Cait and indeed winning a Junior County Football Championship with Maughaun. The family then moved to the Turnpike in Ennis and later on to Beechpark where Jimmy resided until his untimely death.

Jimmy was well known around the town and county in his business life as a chimney sweep. However Jimmy was far ahead of his time in this respect having machines when the old brushes… Read more

Midweek Misery Continues For Leeds

Leeds United 2 Hull City 3

Steve Bruce's Hull City produced an impressive comeback to beat Leeds United at Elland Road for the first time since 1987. Leeds went ahead after seven minutes when Luciano Becchio scored from the penalty spot after Joe Dudgeon fouled Leeds midfielder El-Hadji Diouf.

However goals from Ahmed Elmohamady (23mins), Abdoulaye Faye (29mins) and Robert Koren on 76 mins secured a thrilling win for The Tigers.
Andy Gray headed in an injury-time consolation for Leeds but the damage was done. Leeds are now in 13th place and it was another night of midweek disappointment for The Whites who have now won just three of their past 22 midweek matches. Now we know why we dread Tuesday nights !

Heartbreak In Wales Once Again

Cardiff City 2 Leeds United 1

While Neil Warnock thought United deserved a point he must conceded that the stats don't lie and 61% possession for The Bluebirds and 17 shots to 5 speakes volume for the domination of Malkey Mackay. Cardiff are now unbeaten in 14 league and cup matches against Leeds, having won nine and drawn five since a 1-0 away defeat in February 1984.

Ex Liverpool star Craig Bellamy scored a spectacular free-kick on his return from injury to set Cardiff City on their way to a third successive home victory. Bellamy found the top corner of Paddy Kenny's net with a 20-yard pile driver on 67 mins, three minutes after coming on as a second-half substitute. Worse was to follow six minutes later when Peter Whittingham's penalty doubled the lead after Nicky Maynard was bundled over by Leeds defender Tom Lees.

Leeds got a life line on… Read more

Well Done John And Mannix

Last Saturday in the Fairgreen a Chelsea Supporters X1 took on a Leeds United Supporters X1 in a charity match to raise funds for the Ennis Voices of Autism and the Ennis Youth Centre. The game was the brainchild of Ennislusc members John Brooks and Gearoid (Mannix)Mannion ably assisted by Jim McMahon, Chairman of the Ennis Chelseas Supporters Club.

The game ended in a victory for the Blues but more importantly over €1,100 to date has been collected for these worthy causes. It was great to see Paul (Nuggy) Nihill, Richie Lynch, Slim Corry, the ageless Steve Underwood and John Brooks to name but a few roll back the years and see them togged out in the Leeds colours.

That evening a great night was had in Mickey Kerin's pub where aching limbs were soothed with copious pints of porter. Already plans are being made for next years event with Ennislusc… Read more

Six Goal Thriller At Elland Road

Leeds United 3 Blackburn Rovers 3

A late strike from substitute Ruben Rochina strike ensured Blackburn left Elland Road with a point as an entertaining encounter with Leeds ended in a draw. At the game were Ennislusc members and great friends John Galvin and Kevin Greene who was celebrating his 50th birthday and had received a trip to Elland Road from his wife Mary as his birthday gift. Great thinking there Mary.

Rovers handed a start to new £8m striker Jordan Rhodes, were 2-0 up after 30 minutes with goals from Marcus Olsson and Nuno Gomes. Former Rovers striker El Hadji Diouf pulled one back before Ross McCormack equalised in the 56th minute.
Luciano Becchio then gave Leeds the lead before Rochina struck for a point.

John Galvin has a good account of his experience of the game on the guestbook.

Becchio Sinks The Posh

Peterborough United 1 Leeds United 2

Luciano Becchio took his tally for the season to four goals as he scored twice to help Leeds win at London Road. Becchio's first came in the seventh minute as Luke Varney crossed from the left for the simplest of close-range finishes. It was 2-0 shortly after the break when Ross McCormack picked out his Argentine strike partner to head home.
However Leeds seem to sit back and when Posh scored with 18 mins remaining it was squeaky bum time for the United fans.Posh's goal came from Michael Bostwick who seized on a poor clearance from David Norris and lashed home. Thankfully United remained strong at the back and held on for a great three points and 7th place in the Championship.Early days but things are looking good. Mot

Tuesday Night Blues Once Again

Blackpool 2 Leeds United 1

Boyd by their impressive victory on Saturday over Wolves Leeds were looking forward to going to Bloomfield Road. United with 8 changes in their line up from the team that played at Blackpool last season took the lead when Tom Lees met a Ross McCormack corner at the back post to head home.

However Blackpool were full of running and Man of the match Thomas Ince(son of Man U legend Paul) who scored twice in Saturday's opening-day win over Millwall wasted a good chance to equalise when he fired over from a Gary Taylor-Fletcher cross. Midfielder Isaiah Osbourne hit the post before ex Leeds defender Stephen Crainey crossed on 75 mins for Nouha Dicko to equalise from close range. Matters got worse five minutes later when Tom Ince set up Matt Phillips to score the winner and in fairness on their second half performance it was… Read more

Super Start To Our Season

Leeds United 1 Wolves 0

Luciano Becchio ensured Neil Warnock's Leeds ( who had 8 players making their debut fot the club) started the season with a win as Wolves suffered a deflating return to the Championship at Elland Road. Argentine Becchio settled the game when he headed the only goal in the 17th minute following an inch-perfect cross by birthday boy Ross McCormack.

New signing Jamaican International Rodolph Austin had an effort cleared off the line while McCormack also went close to scoring in a frantic first half. Having won on the opening day for the past two seasons, this was Wolves' first away defeat on the first day since they lost 2-1 at Stoke on 8 August 2004. Wolves were relegated from the Premier League after winning just five games last season, and only one of their last 24.

Austin had already seen an effort hacked off the line… Read more
