Chopped Down By Forest

Nottingham Forest 4 Leeds United 2

Leeds conceded three kamikaze goals in seven second-half minutes at the City Grounds and giving Forest their first win over United since 1996. Despite this victory for Forest who had won only won of their previous five games they sacked manager Sean O Driscoll hours after the game. No sentiment in sport !

United went ahead on 12 mins when Jerome Thomas crossed for Irish Inyernational Paul Green to tap in from a yard.

However disaster struck on 44 mins when Tom Lees felled Billy Sharp in the area and he then sent Paddy Kenny the wrong way from the spot to give Forest a huge boast just before half time. Then some comical defending put pay to Leeds hope of moving into the top six when Billy Sharpe scored his second on 54 mins and Leeds midfielder Randolph Austin sliced into his own net. Lucciano On The Double

Leeds United 2 Middlesbrough 1

Neil Warnock made three changes from the side that was defeated by Arsenal in the Capital Cup with Paddy Kenny, Alan Tate, and David Norris coming back into the first eleven for the tough fixture with Tony Mowbery's Boro side. It also marked the return of former Leeds great Jonathan Woodgate to Elland Road as part of the Boro back four.

Boro started brightly and took the lead on 30 mins through Lukas Jutkiewicz whose shot was initially saved by Paddy Kenny before he scored with a follow-up via a deflection. Then on the stroke of half time Lucciano Becchio equalised with a half-volley for his 16th goal of the season after a mix up in the Boro defence.

Then on 73 mins Becchio headed in a Diouf corner which proved to be the winner and sent the 25,000 crowd into a frenzy. The victory came a… Read more

Bring On Chelsea

On Wednesday evening Leeds play Chelsea in the Qr-Final of the Capital Cup at Elland Road and it's live on Sky Sports with KO at 19.45. What makes this tie most interesting for Ennislusc fans is that the Chelsea supporters also meet in Moroneys so one can only imagine the banter on the night.

Ennis Chelsea Supporters Chairman Jim McMahon has been rallying his troops and while they will be firm favourites on the night they will earn it to out shout Ennislusc who have over 60 members in the club. At the end of the night win lose or draw it will be handshakes all round and the obligatory sing song. We'll definately win that hands down :-) Marching On Together

Moving On Up

Leeds United 2 Ipswich Town 0

Leeds moved to within four points of the Championship play-off places as they defeated Mike McCarthy's Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys had won their previous three league games so came to Elland Road on a high but it was United who prevailed to win their 1,500 game since joining the football league in 1919. On-loan Jerome Thomas from WBA scored the first goal on 19 mins when he flicked the ball past Stephen Henderson following Tom Lees flick-on from El-Hadji Diouf's corner. Dioufy had signed a 18 month contract on Friday and got a great reception from the home fans as he's becoming a firm favourite after many doubted the wisdom of signing him last July.

On 68 mins Paul Green who has really come into his own in the last 5 games doubled Leeds's lead, firing in from a Thomas pass after he had been… Read more

Back To Reality For Warnock and Leeds

Derby County 3 Leeds United 1

Derby gained their second victory in six games as they ended Leeds three-match winning run. Ex Irish U 21 International Conor Sammon put The Rams ahead on 16 mins when he shot past United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny following an excellent run from 17-year-old midfielder and Man Of Match Will Hughes. Ex Derby player and captain for the day, Paul Green equalised on the stroke of half time flicking into the net after Luciano Becchio's knock-down.

But Derby scored their second on 66mins when Becchio's weak header fell to Keogh and his shot was steered in by team-mate Buxton. Leeds nearly grabbed a second equaliser but Lees hit the inside of the post from a excellent cross from substitute El-Hadji Diouf. Substitute Davies sealed the victory for the Rams in the 4th min of injury time shooting home from the edge of the penalty area and… Read more

Three In A Row For The Whites

Huddersfield City 2 Leeds United 4

Following two great wins in the last seven days Neil Warnock made one change from the starting eleven with Ross McCormack starting in place of Diouf. This was the first West Yorkshire derby between the two sides in the second tier for 25 years and it was a all ticket game.It took a double salvo from Luciano Becchio gave Leeds a deserved victory in an action-packed Yorkshire derby at Huddersfield.

The Terriers went ahead on 12 mins from Chris Atkinson but Leeds hit back with two goals in two minutes from Michael Tonge and Becchio. United were gifted an equaliser on 35 mins when Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies somehow let Tonges 18-yard effort squirm under his body. Then Ross McCormack set up Becchio who hit a super shot from just inside the area up into the top left hand corner of Smithies net. Town equalised on… Read more

Fitting Tribute To Gary Speed

Leeds United 1 Leicester City 0

Luciano Becchio's third-minute penalty was enough to earn a second successive home victory for United.Teenager sensation Sam Byram was fouled inside the box by Jeff Schlupp after a neat bit of skill and Becchio sent ex United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way from the spot.
Schmeichel denied United a second when he made a spectacular save from Paul Green.

The Foxes dominated the possession stats with 55 percent and went close when Martyn Waghorn hit the bar with a brilliant first-half strike but that was as close as they came to denying Leeds a deserved three points. It was great to get the win against one of our bogey team with Neil Warnock sticking with the same starting X1 as played Palace.

A minute's applause was held before kick-off to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former midfielder great Gary Speed. He would… Read more

Super Start To A New Era

Leeds United 2 Crystal Palace 1

Leeds marked their first game since being bought by GFH Capital by ending Ian Holloway's Eagles unbeaten 14-game league run at Elland Road in what was Ennislusc first club trip of the season. It also turned out to be a super day for our own Leon Quirke who had backed Leeds to win 2-1 with Becchio scoring at odds of 45-1.Good on you Leon and thanks for the drinks. Neil Warnock included new loan signings Alan Tate from Swansea and Jerome Thomas from WBA and they certainly added the missing ingredient to ignite United as both had storming games.

Wilfried Zaha the hottest property in The Championship was well shackled by 19 yr old Sam Byram who had a super game. United had Paddy Kenny to thank for a brilliant double save in the first half to keep Leeds from going in behind at half… Read more

23rd Club Trip To Elland Road

Tomorrow morning at 7am 13 members from Ennislusc will board the EIN 3600 to Manchester on the first leg of their journey on their way to Elland Road for Saturday's fixture vs table toppers Crystal Palace. When this fixtures was chosen back in August it was never envisaged that The Eagles would be top of the table with Leeds down in lowly 18th position but unfortunately that's the scenario. There are also three members flying over from Dublin on Saturday morning for the game so we'll be well represented at Elland Road on our 23rd trip. Marching On Together

Ambushed At The Den

Millwall 1 Leeds United 0

The rot continues for Leeds with now only one win in the last nine league games and now we are being dragged into a relegation fight.Chris Wood scored the only goal of the game on 85 mins for Millwall as they beat 10-man Leeds in a tense encounter at The Den. After a goalless and poor opening half Leeds Luke Varney was dismissed on 48mins for an elbow on Adam Smith. While Neil Warnock was very upset over the dismissal in his post match conference I suggest he reviews the video as in my opinion it was a straight red and cannot see it being reduced to a yellow card status as he wishes.

Millwall dominated thereafter with Wood going close with a long drive and James Henry also spurning a fine chance. Leeds created few chances throughout and on this form with games coming up vs… Read more

Disaster And Embarrassment At Elland Road

Leeds United 1 Watford 6

United slumped to an embarrassing home defeat and are now without a win in six league games after Watford scored six goals at Elland Road. Neil Warnock's side finished with nine men after Jason Pearce was dismissed in first half injury time and Rodolph Austin broke his leg in two places on 50mins after Leeds had used three substitutes.

Watford's goals came form Matej Vydra (2), Almen Abdi, Mark Yeates, Sean Murray and Troy Deeney.
Leeds salvaged a small consolation through Michael Tonge's penalty. The takeover by a Middle East-based private equity group is expected to be completed imminently with the deal with GFH Capital believed to be worth in the region of £44M.

The sooner this goes through the better although our season looks over now as barring a miracle we won't make the top six. And as if to compound matters Michael Browne and Jason… Read more

What's Gone Wrong

Burnley 1 Leeds United 0

Burnley striker Charlie Austin scored his 20th goal of the season to seal a win over a disappointing Leeds. Austin has scored 16 times in his last 11 matches headed a late winner at Turf Moor to seal a second straight win for new manager Sean Dyche. Leeds are now without a win in their last five league matches and drop into the bottom half of the Championship.

Paddy Kenny made a superb early double save, first keeping out Ross Wallace's 20-yard shot at full stretch and then blocking Dean Marney's follow-up.Leeds best chance fell to El-Hadji Diouf who spurned a gilt-edged chance when he dragged wide from 12 yards after 30 minutes. And Aidy White should have done better on the hour when he missed a easier chance.

Then United paid for their spurned chances when former Swindon striker Austin broke the deadlock on minutes… Read more

Oh So Lucky To Get A Point

Brighton and Hove Albion 2 Leeds United 2

Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny saved a 74th-minute penalty to deny Craig Mackail-Smith a hat-trick and give Neil Warnock side a point the hardly desreved. Mackail-Smith the scourge of United (prior to this evenings game he'd scored against us 6 times in five appearances) opened the scoring from the penalty spot on 16 mins after Leeds captain Lee Peltier brought down Will Buckley. No question it was a penalty and shortly after the striker hit the post with Kenny beaten all ends up.

Brighton's centre half Bruno fouled Luke Varney on 37 mins and the ref pointed to the spot which was harsh to say the least.Up stepped El-Hadji Diouf and he made no mistake with his effort to put Leeds back on level terms. Then on 48mins that man again Mackail-Smith scored his second with a effort from 12 yds that took a… Read more

The Blues Once Again For The Whites

Leeds United 0 Birmingham City 1

Leroy Lita's brilliant 30-yard drive clinched a late victory for struggling Birmingham at Leeds.
Neither side impressed in a dour game before Lita's strike handed the perfect 40th birthday present to Blues boss Lee Clark. It was Birmingham's third consecutive league victory over United only on this occasion Nikola Zigic didn't score for the Blues as he wasn't in the match day squad.

Leeds best chance fell to El-Hadji Diouf whose point-blank header was saved by England keeper Jack Butland. For long periods it had looked as though a goalless draw would be the outcome of this Championship clash with opportunities scarce and only Birmingham's Ravel Morrison and Leeds Diouf looking dangerous. However a moment of brilliance on 76mins from Leroy Lita settled this disappointing clash and United ended the week with only one point from their two home games which doesn't inspire confidence as… Read more

Poor Display But We'll Take The Point

Leeds United 1 Charlton Athletic 1

Leeds extended their unbeaten Championship run to six matches with a dour 1-1 draw against Chris Powell's Charlton. David Norris fired in Luke Varney's knockdown to put United on course to climb into the play-off positions on 37th mins

However Charlton hit back on 50th mins through debutant Dorian Dervite as the Addicks extended their unbeaten run at Leeds to a fifth match.
Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, playing his 500th career game, twice denied Bradley Wright-Phillips in the dying stages to secure the points.

Another poor home display by United which was acknowledged by Neil Warnock in his after match press conference.Still for us Leeds fans it's not a Tuesday night defeat and we are one point off the play off places which we would gladly have taken before the season kicked off.

Congratulations Leon

Last Sunday in Sixmilebridge Ruan won the Clare Intermediate Hurling Title at the expense of Crusheen after contesting their third final in a row. Unfortunately defeat was their lot in 2010 and 2011 but now they will play in the Clare Senior Championship next year.

Every present at left corner back for Ruan was Ennislusc member Leon Quirke. All his friends in the club would like to extend their good wishes and look forward to seeing him togging against Eire Og next year.

Night Of Humiliation For Leeds

Sheffield Wednesday 1 Leeds United 1

Michael Tonge's stunning equaliser gave Leeds a point at Hillsborough but the game was marred during the celebrations of Tonge's goal as a Leeds fan struck Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland in the face. In what was one of the darkest hours in Leeds United history this will have serious repercussions for the club with fines and a ban on away supporters sure to follow. What this mindless moron did could even jeopardise the proposed takeover that all us Leeds fan crave but only time will tell on that front.

It must be said that over the course of the game Leeds can consider themselves extremely lucky to have come away with a point that they hardly deserved. For all of the first half Wednesday were by far the better team and Paddy Kenny was luck to get away when he fumbled a Jay Bothroyd… Read more

Leeds vs Sheffield Wed Live On Sky

Tomorrow evening Leeds play Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough with the game live on Sky Sports 1 and kick off 7.45pm. This is a big ask for United but a win here would put us up to second place in the Championship even if it was only for a short time before Saturday's games. As usual Ennislusc will be gathering in Moroney's for the game so come on down and enjoy the banter. Marching On Together

Spot On Luciano

Leeds United 1 Barnsley 0

Luciano Becchio's first-half penalty was enough to give Leeds a narrow win over Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. Referee Darren Deadman gave the spot-kick despite Stephen Foster appearing to foul Lee Peltier outside the area. This decision certainly didn't go down well with Tykes manager Keith Hill who made his feelings know in the post match interview. Argentine striker Becchio has now netted in each of Leeds five league games at Elland Road this season and has nine goals in all competitions.

The goal on 42 mins came against the run of play with Barnsley dominating the opening exchanges, as they looked to continue a six-match unbeaten run against United. Ex Nottingham Forest striker Marlon Harewood came closest to equalising with a bullet like header forcing a unbelievable save from Paddy Kenny. It was not one of United's better performances but with 5 games in 14 days one has… Read more

Kevin Davies Two Headed Corners Deny United

Bolton Wanderers 2 Leeds United 2

Two goals from veteran Kevin Davies earned Bolton a draw against in-form Leeds. Bolton old-boy Diouf named captain for the night on his return to the Reebok Stadium was once again the top man for Leeds. However it was Bolton who were rewarded for their early dominance when Davies powerfully headed in a corner from Chris Eagles on 14 mins. Five minutes later Eagles nearly made it two nil when his twenty yard effort hit the butt of the Leeds post with Paddy Kenny well beaten.

Leeds levelled on the stroke of half time through Sam Byram's glancing header following a cross from Dioufy. Then on 50 mins Byram was felled in the area by Stephen Warnock and Luciano Becchio converted the spot kick to give United a unlikely lead. Then cometh the hour cometh the man and another Davies header from a Martin… Read more
