No Posh Performance From Leeds

Leeds United 1 Peterborough United 1

Nineteen year old Sam Byram rescued a point for Leeds but our play-off hopes were severly dented as Darren Ferguson's Peterborough secured a well derserved draw at Elland Road. Posh striker Dwight Gayle gave the visitors the lead with a superb left-foot effort on 15 mins which stunned the home crowd. This was United's game in hand on those ahead of us and a big chance to close the gap given Posh's form of late. However Posh were in no form to lie down as they scrap for survival in The Championship.

Leeds leveled when defender Byram guided Stephen Warnock's corner home at the far post on 57 mins. This was United's chance to push on for the three points but alas that wasn't to be. Jason Pearce headed agonizingly as the clocked ticked into injury time and so did Leeds play off chances.

Leeds Caught Napping By The Eagles

Crystal Palace 2 Leeds United 2

Glenn Murray's late equaliser (and his second goal) for Crystal Palace denied Leeds United a rare away win in the Championship. United have now gone nine away games without a win since their victory away to Huddersfield on 1st December so one does not have to be Einstein to figure out that our away form will cost us a top six finish. This is unlike the last two seasons where our home form was dire compared to our away results.

Murray the country's leading scorer, headed the Eagles into the lead 27th mins but Steve Morison's close-range effort on 56 mins got United back into the game. Then the ex Canary striker put Leeds into a surprise lead on 69 mins after running on to keeper Paddy Kenny's long punt. However just as in the mid week game away to Leicester we couldn't hold onto our lead and… Read more

93rd Minute Heartbreak For United

Leicester City 1 Leeds United 1

Foxws defender Michael Keane headed equaliser in the third minute of injury time rescued a point for Leicester and dealt a blow to Leeds' Championship play-off hopes. Keane on loan from Manchester United nodded in a Martyn Waghorn corner to deny Leeds a first win on the road since 1 December. It's our dire away form that's our achilles heal this season and with six of the remaining eleven league games at home we need maximum points from these to gives us a glimmer of the play offs.

Leeds looked dangerous on the counter-attack throughout and ex United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel stretched to palm away Byram's header.
Sam Byram was Leeds most dangerous threat going forward and he finally put United in front from six yards on 52 mins when the ball fell to him following Ross McCormack's corner. Unfortunately that late late goal from Keane… Read more

Still In The Mix

Leeds United 1 Millwall 0

In the early kick off game Leeds did their Championship play-off a huge boost as a Stephen Warnock 72nd minute penalty gave them victory over Millwall and their third clean sheet in a row. Kenny Jackett's men had gone close early on when James Henry's shot hit the post before Leeds striker Ross McCormack had a penalty saved on 27 mins by David Forde following a foul on Sam Byram. This was a big set back for United but in fairness they didn't let it effect them. Paddy Kenny did make one great save just before half time and it was all to play for in the second half.

From villain to here for Ross McCormack as he was fouled by Alan Dunne for a penalty and up stepped loan signing Warnock to blast to the net.Millwall thought they should also have had a penalty for… Read more

I Didn't See This Coming

Leeds United 2 Blackpool 0

As our esteemed Secretary Paul Nuggy Nihill text after the game that we should play Wednesday nights instead of Tuesdays as it seems to be a lucky omen for us. It certainly wasn't for new Blackpool boss Paul Ince who only took up the role two days ago.The result in front of 25,000+ was a welcome pick me up for everyone associated with Leeds after our FA Cup drubbing to Man City on Sunday.

David Norris who started in place of Michael Brown opened the scoring on 57 mins when he scored with a superb volley from 15 yards. Then on 63 mins new signing from Norwich Steve Morison scored his first goal for United with a lovely chip over the keeper.Leeds also went close through Luke Varney and Ross McCormack while Paddy Kenny made two excellent saves from Sylvestre and Taylor- Fletcher. This is United's first win in… Read more

Promotion Hopes Gone For Another Season

Middlesbrough 1 Leeds United 0

Middlesbrough's victory was their first over Leeds on home turf in 11 attempts since they beat the then league champions 4-1 at Ayresome Park in August 1992. And so another stat is resigned to the scrap heap. Curtis Main's late header helped Middlesbrough pick up their first points and victory of 2013 against Leeds United at the Riverside. Curtis Main looped a header past Paddy Kenny from Ishmael Miller's curling cross with eight minutes remaining and was then sent off shortly after for a second bookable offence.

Ross McCormack should have opened the scoring for Leeds in the first half when he rounded keeper Steele only for ex Leeds favourite Jonathan Woodgatet to clear it off the line. Then in injury time new signing Habib Habibou had Leeds's best chances with a header from six yards but Steele made a super save to deny United a… Read more

Injury Time Woe For Leeds

Wolves 2 Leeds United 2

Full back Danny Batth's first league goal saw Wolves snatch a dramatic late point at Molineux with a 93rd minute equalizer and keep the club just above the Championship's relegation zone.
The defender's later header was a huge setback for Leeds boss Neil Warnock in his late bid for a play-off place. And it didn't start very well for United with a own goal by Lee Peltier on 57mins putting Wolves in front, only for Leeds to go ahead thanks to goals by Luke Varney on 64mins and a penalty from Ross McCormack on 78 mins.

However Wolves late late show was a kick in the teeth for Leeds and now leaves them in 11th position and 5 points off the play offs with games running out.The galling thing for United fans is that we should have beaten both Cardiff and Wolves in our last two… Read more

Our Bogey Team Does It Again

New signing Fraizer Campbell scored the winner for Cardiff following a mistake by Sam Byram, described by manager Neil Warnock as a schoolboy error. David Marshall made two good saves in either half to deny Ross Barkley and Tom Lees a share of the spoils for Leeds.

Dire Game But Three Points

Leeds United 1 Bristol City 0

The only positives out of today's game were the three points, Ross McCormack scoring and United making it six wins in a row at home. So why all the doom and gloom I hear you say. Well this was a game to forget football wise and certainly doesn't inspire confidence as the fans showed once again by booing as the team trudged off the field at half time.

Bristol who are routed to the bottom of the table and had a new manager of three days ( ex Forest boss Sean O Driscoll) and certainly deserved a share of the spoils. Today there were only 18,000 at Elland Road and if they continue to see this type of drivel they will stay away in their thousands. And if Lucciano Becchio joins Wigan in the January transfer window as the rumour mill has it then this… Read more

Diabolical Performance At Oakwell

Barnsley 2 Leeds United 0

Two second half goals from striker Chris Dagnall saw manager-less Barnsley shock Yorkshire rivals Leeds at Oakwell. As Eddie Gray said in his after match comments this was one of the worst displays he ever witnessed from a Leeds X1. Couple that with the 5,000 Leeds fans chanting "Time to go!"at Neil Warnock and that about sums up the frustration of all White supporters at present.

A dominant performance from bottom of the table Barnsley was rewarded when Chris Dagnall scored a penalty after he was fouled by full back Sam Byram on on 63 mins. Byram who up to now was having a super season for Leeds was once again at fault three minutes later as Dagnall tormented the young full back. He cut in from the wing left Byram for dead and beat Paddy Kenny with a tremendous shot from twelve yards. Everton's Ross Barkley… Read more

Spot On Becchio

Leeds United 1 Bolton Wanderers 0

The less said about this first fixture of the New Year the better other than Warnock's boys came away with a valuable three points thanks to a Lucciano Becchio spot kick on 66 mins. Ex Man United midfielder Chris Eagles hit the outside of the post early on for Bolton and the winger then forced Leeds goalkeeper Paddy Kenny into a good save from distance on the half hour.

Ross McCormack who had a quite game overall was brought down in the box by Bolton full back Tyrone Mears and the referee immediately signaled a penalty. Who better to take the kick than leading scorer Becchio and he sent Bolton goalkeeper Adam Bogdan the wrong way from the spot. While this won't have Leeds fans dreaming of a top six spot at least it arrested our losing streak and now we have another home game vs… Read more

Tigers Slay United

Hull City 2 Leeds United 0

Hull moved within two points of Championship leaders Cardiff with a comfortable victory over Yorkshire rivals Leeds United. The Tigers dominated from start to finish against a lackluster Leeds side who barely managed an effort on goal over the entire 90 mins.Neil Warnock made five changes from the team defeated by Forest on St Stephen's Day,giving David Somma his first start 1n 19 months. However the changes failed to have the desired effect and Leeds gave one of their poorest performance of the season with Somma being replaced at half time by Luke Varney.

Despite all their dominance The Tigers had to wait until the 52nd min to take a deserved lead when Corry Evans drilled a low angled shot from 15 yards into the corner of the net with Paddy Kenny well beaten. On loan Sunderland and ex Irish U21 International David Meyler headed… Read more

Chopped Down By Forest

Nottingham Forest 4 Leeds United 2

Leeds conceded three kamikaze goals in seven second-half minutes at the City Grounds and giving Forest their first win over United since 1996. Despite this victory for Forest who had won only won of their previous five games they sacked manager Sean O Driscoll hours after the game. No sentiment in sport !

United went ahead on 12 mins when Jerome Thomas crossed for Irish Inyernational Paul Green to tap in from a yard.

However disaster struck on 44 mins when Tom Lees felled Billy Sharp in the area and he then sent Paddy Kenny the wrong way from the spot to give Forest a huge boast just before half time. Then some comical defending put pay to Leeds hope of moving into the top six when Billy Sharpe scored his second on 54 mins and Leeds midfielder Randolph Austin sliced into his own net. Lucciano On The Double

Leeds United 2 Middlesbrough 1

Neil Warnock made three changes from the side that was defeated by Arsenal in the Capital Cup with Paddy Kenny, Alan Tate, and David Norris coming back into the first eleven for the tough fixture with Tony Mowbery's Boro side. It also marked the return of former Leeds great Jonathan Woodgate to Elland Road as part of the Boro back four.

Boro started brightly and took the lead on 30 mins through Lukas Jutkiewicz whose shot was initially saved by Paddy Kenny before he scored with a follow-up via a deflection. Then on the stroke of half time Lucciano Becchio equalised with a half-volley for his 16th goal of the season after a mix up in the Boro defence.

Then on 73 mins Becchio headed in a Diouf corner which proved to be the winner and sent the 25,000 crowd into a frenzy. The victory came a… Read more

Moving On Up

Leeds United 2 Ipswich Town 0

Leeds moved to within four points of the Championship play-off places as they defeated Mike McCarthy's Ipswich Town. The Tractor Boys had won their previous three league games so came to Elland Road on a high but it was United who prevailed to win their 1,500 game since joining the football league in 1919. On-loan Jerome Thomas from WBA scored the first goal on 19 mins when he flicked the ball past Stephen Henderson following Tom Lees flick-on from El-Hadji Diouf's corner. Dioufy had signed a 18 month contract on Friday and got a great reception from the home fans as he's becoming a firm favourite after many doubted the wisdom of signing him last July.

On 68 mins Paul Green who has really come into his own in the last 5 games doubled Leeds's lead, firing in from a Thomas pass after he had been… Read more

Back To Reality For Warnock and Leeds

Derby County 3 Leeds United 1

Derby gained their second victory in six games as they ended Leeds three-match winning run. Ex Irish U 21 International Conor Sammon put The Rams ahead on 16 mins when he shot past United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny following an excellent run from 17-year-old midfielder and Man Of Match Will Hughes. Ex Derby player and captain for the day, Paul Green equalised on the stroke of half time flicking into the net after Luciano Becchio's knock-down.

But Derby scored their second on 66mins when Becchio's weak header fell to Keogh and his shot was steered in by team-mate Buxton. Leeds nearly grabbed a second equaliser but Lees hit the inside of the post from a excellent cross from substitute El-Hadji Diouf. Substitute Davies sealed the victory for the Rams in the 4th min of injury time shooting home from the edge of the penalty area and… Read more

Three In A Row For The Whites

Huddersfield City 2 Leeds United 4

Following two great wins in the last seven days Neil Warnock made one change from the starting eleven with Ross McCormack starting in place of Diouf. This was the first West Yorkshire derby between the two sides in the second tier for 25 years and it was a all ticket game.It took a double salvo from Luciano Becchio gave Leeds a deserved victory in an action-packed Yorkshire derby at Huddersfield.

The Terriers went ahead on 12 mins from Chris Atkinson but Leeds hit back with two goals in two minutes from Michael Tonge and Becchio. United were gifted an equaliser on 35 mins when Huddersfield keeper Alex Smithies somehow let Tonges 18-yard effort squirm under his body. Then Ross McCormack set up Becchio who hit a super shot from just inside the area up into the top left hand corner of Smithies net. Town equalised on… Read more

Fitting Tribute To Gary Speed

Leeds United 1 Leicester City 0

Luciano Becchio's third-minute penalty was enough to earn a second successive home victory for United.Teenager sensation Sam Byram was fouled inside the box by Jeff Schlupp after a neat bit of skill and Becchio sent ex United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel the wrong way from the spot.
Schmeichel denied United a second when he made a spectacular save from Paul Green.

The Foxes dominated the possession stats with 55 percent and went close when Martyn Waghorn hit the bar with a brilliant first-half strike but that was as close as they came to denying Leeds a deserved three points. It was great to get the win against one of our bogey team with Neil Warnock sticking with the same starting X1 as played Palace.

A minute's applause was held before kick-off to commemorate the first anniversary of the death of former midfielder great Gary Speed. He would… Read more
