The 2013/14 Season Kick Off For Leeds

Well it seems like the season has only just ended and more so as we face Brighton tomorrow at Ellland Road having played them our last home game of the season on 27th April which unfortunately ended in a 1-2 defeat. With 31,000 tickets already sold there should be a super atmosphere for Brian McDermott boys and new signings Noel Hunt,Luke Murphy and Matt Smith sure to start.

Unfortunately El-Hadji Diouf and Rudy Austin are both ruled out with suspension while Sam Byram is out with a hip injury. It is vital we get off to a good start and facing a play off team from last season is a tough asked first day out but there are no easy games in The Championship as us long suffering Whites know too well. 13th Place Not Good Enough

Watford 1 Leeds United 2

New Leeds manager Brian McDermott who was winning promotion with Reading this time last year will be pleased his mid-table Leeds side arrived with the commitment and desire to play their part in the final day permutations. They showed a desire that we haven't seen in quite a while to eek out a unlikely victory at high flying Watford's Vicarage Road and end they table in 13th position while denying The Hornets automatic promotion.

Dominic Poleon put Leeds in front on 42mins but Almen Abdi levelled on the stroke of half time with a brilliant shot from 20 yards. The game then took a dramatic turn when Watford's Troy Deeney t saw red for two bookable offences before news of a late Cardiff equaliser at Hull left the Hornets needing a goal to go up.Leeds finished off their promotion dreams when Aiden White broke clear and fed Ross McCormack… Read more

Sad End Of Season For Home Fans

Leeds United 1 Brighton 2

On a day when three Ennislusc members (Marty Brennan, Bryan Woods and Kevin Greene) were in attendance at Elland Road indiscipline cost the home side dearly. After only 8 mins Randolph Austin was sent off for a foul on Ashley Barnes and two minutes later a weak back pass from Tom Lees allowed Will Buckley the simplest of chances to score.Ross McCormack had Leeds two best chances of the first half with a half volley and a shot just over the crossbar.

On 74 mins Leeds got back in the game from the penalty spot when El-Hadji Diouf was chopped down in the area by Inigo Calderon. He was shown the red card and Diouf dusted himself off to score the resultant penalty. However a red mist descended on him as he ran fifty yards to make a gesture to the Brighton fans and was shown a straight red… Read more

Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 0

Hayden Mullins scored on his 550th league appearance and hand Leeds boss Brian McDermott his first loss in three games. Mullins scored on 71st minute after Paddy Kenny could only parry Nathan Redmond's effort. Up to then Leeds looked the better team but lacked a cutting edge up front and have done so since the departure of Becchio to Norwich in January.

Ross McCormack did hit the woodwork for United with a free kick and Jack Butland brilliantly tipped over Michael Tonge's 20-yard strike. Leeds are mathematically safe and can now plan ahead for the new season.

Moving On Up

Leeds United 1 Burnley 0

Austin ran on to El-Hadji Diouf's through ball on 62 mins to shoot home past Burnley keeper Lee Grant.Ross McCormack saw a volley saved on a day where Burnley manager Sean Dyche said "Leeds showed their experience and that's interesting because the same group of players weren't playing like that two weeks ago because I saw them.

A second straight Championship win lifts Leeds up tp 11th in the table with three games to play. Now it's all about finishing with a flourish and kicking on for next season. MOT

We're Safe

Leeds United 2 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Luke Varney scored twice in the second half as United came from behind to beat Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday in Brian McDermott's first game in charge and safe guard our Championship survival. The Owels dominated the first half and deservedly led through Jermaine Johnson's lofted finish.

Leeds were much improved in the second period and equalised on 63 mins when Varney's header hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced over the line. Varney then headed in Ross McCormack's cross on 69 mins to complete the turnaround.

After a run of four successive defeats ( our longest losing league run in four years ) the win all but secures Leeds's Championship status for next season as they move on to 55 points.

All In Readiness For 3rd Mike Mac Golf Classic

Well we are a day away from the 3rd Mike Mac Classic and all is in readiness for another great day While the number of teams are down on last year which is to be expected in the present climate the committee is more than happy with our present number of 26 teams.Hopefully the man above will smile on us with a fine day though I'm sure Mac will have a quite word in his ear for us. This year all the proceeds from the Golf Classic are going to Cahercalla Hospice which is a fantastic facility and one that is dear to all our hearts.

The course is in pristine condition thanks to the efforts of green keepers Kevin Brown and David Hoey so scoring should be above average. Guest of honour John Giles will be arriving at the course at 12.30pm and he tees off at 2.10pm with… Read more

Injury Time Shock At The Valley For Leeds

Charlton Athletic 2 Leeds United 1

Substitute Jonathan Obika 93rd min injury time goal earned The Addicks all three points against manager less Leeds at The Valley.Charlton have now extended their unbeaten run against Leeds to five games. After a goal less first half Johnnie Jackson put Charlton in front with a powerful strike two minutes into the second half.Steve Morison hit the post for Leeds and ex Charlton striker Luke Varney looked to have earned a point for the visitors with his 82nd-minute strike until Obika headed in a late winner.

We are now five points off the relegation places with five games remaining and need at least one victory to insure Championship survival. Let's hope we can get those points next Saturday away to our Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednesday and put all our minds at easy !

Nine In A Row For The Rams and Warnocks Leaves

Leeds United 1 Derby County 2

Jake Buxton's 88 min header earned Derby's ninth successive win against Leeds and sent manager Nigel Clough home harboring slim hopes of a play off spot.Following the game Neil Warnock called time on his time at Elland Road with Reserve Team Manager Neil Redfearn taking over for the final six games. Warnocks record at Elland Road reads Played 63, Won 23, Drew 15, Lost 25. When the Dubai-based private equity group GFH Capital took over Leeds in November he expected funding in the January transfer window but instead we lost our best player Lucciano Becchio to Norwich and no quality was added for a promotion push.

Many names have been banded around for the vacent post including former Reading boss Brian McDermott, Brighton manager and former Leeds assistant Gus Poyet and ex-Bolton boss Owen Coyle. At least with a intern manager it will give the club… Read more

Disgraceful Tackle By Lees Ends Leeds Top Six Hope

Ipswich Town 3 Leeds United 0

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock has criticised defender Tom Lees for his "stupid" dismissal in the 3-0 defeat at Portman Road. In his after match press conference he said "We've got one lad who's let everyone down. He's let me down, the team down and the fans who travelled here," said Warnock. "It was one stupid moment. I don't know what else I can say, other than it was a ridiculous tackle." This all but means that the remaining seven fixtures are all but academic in our efforts for a play off spot bar a miracle.

David McGoldrick scored goals either side of half-time to help Ipswich boost their survival prospects with a comfortable victory over 10-man Leeds. United started well but when Tom Lees was sent off for a high tackle on Jay Tabb the pendulum swung in favour of The Tractor Boys and they… Read more

Play Offs Hopes Gone Up In Smoke

Leeds United 1 Huddersfield Town 2

Our goose is cooked after this terrible home defeat and Neil Warnock will be on his way out of Elland Road on his own admission when it mathematically impossible to get a top six finish. Warnock estimated that we needed at least six wins from our remaining nine fixtures before today's game so the hunt will be on for his successor sooner rather than later.Unfortunately we'll be left with some of his poor signings and who ever succeeds him will have some job on their hands to revive our fortunes.

Ex Everton striker James Vaughan grabbed a valuable late winner on 86 mins for Huddersfield in their race for Championship survival in a no holds barred Yorkshire derby. Neil Danns put The Terriers ahead on 54 mins when he volleyed home Vaughan's flick-on but six minutes later substitute Aidy White equalised with a header when… Read more

No Posh Performance From Leeds

Leeds United 1 Peterborough United 1

Nineteen year old Sam Byram rescued a point for Leeds but our play-off hopes were severly dented as Darren Ferguson's Peterborough secured a well derserved draw at Elland Road. Posh striker Dwight Gayle gave the visitors the lead with a superb left-foot effort on 15 mins which stunned the home crowd. This was United's game in hand on those ahead of us and a big chance to close the gap given Posh's form of late. However Posh were in no form to lie down as they scrap for survival in The Championship.

Leeds leveled when defender Byram guided Stephen Warnock's corner home at the far post on 57 mins. This was United's chance to push on for the three points but alas that wasn't to be. Jason Pearce headed agonizingly as the clocked ticked into injury time and so did Leeds play off chances.

Leeds Caught Napping By The Eagles

Crystal Palace 2 Leeds United 2

Glenn Murray's late equaliser (and his second goal) for Crystal Palace denied Leeds United a rare away win in the Championship. United have now gone nine away games without a win since their victory away to Huddersfield on 1st December so one does not have to be Einstein to figure out that our away form will cost us a top six finish. This is unlike the last two seasons where our home form was dire compared to our away results.

Murray the country's leading scorer, headed the Eagles into the lead 27th mins but Steve Morison's close-range effort on 56 mins got United back into the game. Then the ex Canary striker put Leeds into a surprise lead on 69 mins after running on to keeper Paddy Kenny's long punt. However just as in the mid week game away to Leicester we couldn't hold onto our lead and… Read more

93rd Minute Heartbreak For United

Leicester City 1 Leeds United 1

Foxws defender Michael Keane headed equaliser in the third minute of injury time rescued a point for Leicester and dealt a blow to Leeds' Championship play-off hopes. Keane on loan from Manchester United nodded in a Martyn Waghorn corner to deny Leeds a first win on the road since 1 December. It's our dire away form that's our achilles heal this season and with six of the remaining eleven league games at home we need maximum points from these to gives us a glimmer of the play offs.

Leeds looked dangerous on the counter-attack throughout and ex United goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel stretched to palm away Byram's header.
Sam Byram was Leeds most dangerous threat going forward and he finally put United in front from six yards on 52 mins when the ball fell to him following Ross McCormack's corner. Unfortunately that late late goal from Keane… Read more

Still In The Mix

Leeds United 1 Millwall 0

In the early kick off game Leeds did their Championship play-off a huge boost as a Stephen Warnock 72nd minute penalty gave them victory over Millwall and their third clean sheet in a row. Kenny Jackett's men had gone close early on when James Henry's shot hit the post before Leeds striker Ross McCormack had a penalty saved on 27 mins by David Forde following a foul on Sam Byram. This was a big set back for United but in fairness they didn't let it effect them. Paddy Kenny did make one great save just before half time and it was all to play for in the second half.

From villain to here for Ross McCormack as he was fouled by Alan Dunne for a penalty and up stepped loan signing Warnock to blast to the net.Millwall thought they should also have had a penalty for… Read more

I Didn't See This Coming

Leeds United 2 Blackpool 0

As our esteemed Secretary Paul Nuggy Nihill text after the game that we should play Wednesday nights instead of Tuesdays as it seems to be a lucky omen for us. It certainly wasn't for new Blackpool boss Paul Ince who only took up the role two days ago.The result in front of 25,000+ was a welcome pick me up for everyone associated with Leeds after our FA Cup drubbing to Man City on Sunday.

David Norris who started in place of Michael Brown opened the scoring on 57 mins when he scored with a superb volley from 15 yards. Then on 63 mins new signing from Norwich Steve Morison scored his first goal for United with a lovely chip over the keeper.Leeds also went close through Luke Varney and Ross McCormack while Paddy Kenny made two excellent saves from Sylvestre and Taylor- Fletcher. This is United's first win in… Read more

Promotion Hopes Gone For Another Season

Middlesbrough 1 Leeds United 0

Middlesbrough's victory was their first over Leeds on home turf in 11 attempts since they beat the then league champions 4-1 at Ayresome Park in August 1992. And so another stat is resigned to the scrap heap. Curtis Main's late header helped Middlesbrough pick up their first points and victory of 2013 against Leeds United at the Riverside. Curtis Main looped a header past Paddy Kenny from Ishmael Miller's curling cross with eight minutes remaining and was then sent off shortly after for a second bookable offence.

Ross McCormack should have opened the scoring for Leeds in the first half when he rounded keeper Steele only for ex Leeds favourite Jonathan Woodgatet to clear it off the line. Then in injury time new signing Habib Habibou had Leeds's best chances with a header from six yards but Steele made a super save to deny United a… Read more
