Successful 24th Trip For Ennislusc

Last Friday 23 members of Ennislusc flew from Shannon to Liverpool on their way to Leeds for their annual winter trip. It's strange how times fly as this is now the club's 24th trip since our first trip on 17th March 2002 when we faced Blackburn Rovers in The Premiership.Incidentally on this trip two sons of members (Eoin O Loughlin and James Barry) were making the trip up from London to add to the occasion.

On the plane over to Liverpool our ex President Cyril (Slim) Corry gave all on sundry a tip for the 3.40 at Haydock with a horse named Desoto County. There were six Everton supporters on the plane who also heard the tip and said they would back it.True to form from our tipster Slim, Desota skated home at odds of 10/3 and those that backed him got their weekend off on a high. Unlike previous years… Read more

Magical Day For Ross As He Hits Four

Charlton Athletic 2 Leeds United 4

Without doubt the best piece of business Brian McDermott did at the start of the season was holding on to Ross McCormack. Six goals in his last two league games shows just how important a player he is for United. The game was put back for thirty minutes as grounds men cleared the pitch of water after a constant downpour all morning and it was Leeds who started brightly.

Charlton had not conceded in more than seven hours going into the game but on 17th mins Ross changed that stat when scoring from inside the area. However on the stroke of half time Cameron Stewart equalised with a cracker from 25 yards. Leeds were back in front three minutes after the break when Danny Pugh was fouled inside the area and up stepped Ross to blast high to the roof of the net.On 70 mins Simon Church got… Read more

Ross On The Double

Leeds United 2 Yeovil Town 0

Scottish International Ross McCormack continued his rich vein of form with two second half goals to send Leeds back up to 8th in the Championship. He has now scored eight goals in 18 appearances for club and country this season which is one short of his tally for the whole of last season.Where would we be without him this season ?

After a scoreless first half which Leeds dominated Ross struck on 48 mins with a superb shot from 18 yards after being set up by Randolph Austin. His second came on 67 mins and was nearly a carbon copy of the first being set up once again by Austin and scoring from the same distance as his first strike. New signing Marius Zaliukas came on for Stephen Warnock on 41 mins and certainly looks to be a player who'll make a big difference to our… Read more

Back To Square One

Huddersfield Town 3 Leeds United 2

Just when you think we have turned a corner Leeds go along and let us down with a bang. Considering we took the lead in the second minute through a Matt Smith header away from home the omens looked good but that was a false dawn for the travelling Leeds supporters.Victory for The Terriers was their fifth in eight league matches against Leeds. It was also their second in a row and first at home in four years.

Huddersfield equalised on 10 mins through a Danny Ward strike from the edge of the area and this was the way it stayed until half time. The home side took the lead on 62 mins when Tom Leees headed int his own net but n loan Nottingham Forest striker Dexter Backstock headed United level on 73mins with his first touch of the ball.
One would have expected Leeds to push… Read more

Are We Dreaming

Leeds United 4 Birmingham City 0

What a turnaround for Brian McDermotts boys who turned in a great performance to beat our bogey team after a run of five defeats to them.
United took a deserved lead on 18 mins when Blues goalkeeper Darren Randolph's poor clearance allowed Ross McCormack to guide a shot into an empty net for.

Man of The Match Rodolph Austin headed in a McCormack cross on 34 mins and on the stroke of half time giant centre forward Matt Smith slotted home after Randolph's parried save. This was a surreal feeling for Leeds fans who hadn't looked forward to such a pleasurable pint and pie at half time in a very long time. David Murphy's free-kick hit the Leeds post before Smith headed in a fourth and his second on 74mins to give United a convincing victory.

Manager Brian McDermott's first defeat as Leeds boss was a… Read more

The Rams Run Riot

Derby County 3 Leeds United 1

It's April 2002 since United last beat Derby who have now won 10 successive matched against Leeds so no wonder new Rams manager Steve McClaren welcomed Brian McDermott's men to Pride Park on Saturday. However Leeds should have gone ahead on 10 mins but Rodolph Austin blazed a shot over from eight yards and they were made to pay as the Rams scored twice in three minutes.

Chris Martin's strike on 20 mins and Johnny Russell's cool finish on 23 mins put the hosts in control early on. Leeds were give a lifeline on the stroke of half time when Jason Pearce's headed home. Despite sustained pressure from United it was Derby's teenager sensation Will Hughes who sealed a deserved victory on 78 mins. It looks like another season of doom and gloom for United fans on the evidence of recent showings. Tough times ahead for… Read more

Badlly Needed Win For United

Leeds United 2 Bournmouth 1

Leeds ended a run of four defeats with a morale-boosting win over Eddie Howe's Bournemouth. The turning point came on 31 mins when Cherries keeper Ryan Allsop was sent off for bringing down Noel Hunt. However his replacement Darryl Flahavan dived low to save the resulting penalty from Ross McCormack. But not to be undaunted Ross met Stephen Warnock's cross from the left on 52 mins to put Leeds ahead.

Ex United star Ian Harte's free-kick was headed on for Lewis Grabban to fire in an equaliser on 73 mins and it was squeaky bum time at Elland Road once again. Then up steps Dominic Poleon on 80 mins to easy the nerves of the home crowd and give a badly needed boast to his manager Brian McDermott.

The Lions Devour United

Millwall 2 Leeds United 0

As Brian McDermott put it in his after match interview "If the fans see another second-half performance like we did then we're going to have a problem. We need to keep the fans with us." To say this was a dire display is a understatement and certainly has knocked the true Leeds fans for six. Many have already given up on a top six place and we are only seven weeks into the season but it's not hard to see there despair

Leeds should have gone ahead through Ross McCormack but he failed to connect with a left-wing Mowatt cross. United were punished on 65mins when Woolford's smart finish giving Leeds keeper Paddy Kenny no chance. Leeds brought on Sam Byram and Matt Smith as they searched for an equaliser, but the game was all over on 76 mins when Malone exchanged passes with Trotter to seal… Read more

From Bad To Worse

Leeds United 1 Burnley 2

Another defeat for United their third in four games and second consecutive loss in five days which drops us to 9th in the table. Not the form one expect so early in the season for a team with aspirations of having a top six finish.

Sean Dyche's Clarets took a two-goal advantage into the break after Scott Arfield beat Paddy Kenny on 18 mins at his near post and ex Wolves player Sam Vokes followed up his own header to score a second on 42 mins. This gave United a uphill struggle and it was only when Matt Smith came on that we looked dangerous in attack He headed in an El-Hadji Diouf free-kick on 79 mins to give Leeds hope but the visitors held out for a deserved victory and moved to 2nd in the Championship.

Goals have been our problem and since Luciano Becchio left for… Read more

96th Minute Agony

Reading 1 Leeds United 0

It was a unhappy return for Brian McDermott to the Madejski Stadium as Adam Le Fondre scored a 96th-minute winner for the Royals and leap frog Leeds in the Championship table.Le Fondre scored from Royston Drenthe's free-kick to give Nigel Adkins a win with Leeds still having never won at the home of Reading.

The chance came after United's left back Stephen Warnock received his second yellow card of the game for a trip on Le Fondre. Luke Varney wasted the best chance for United who now drop to 11th.

Moving On Up,Let's Keep It Going

Bolton Wanderers 0 Leeds United 1

Striker Luke Varney headed the only goal of the game after six minutes and consigned Dougie Freedman's Bolton to their fourth successive league defeat. This was the first time Leeds had opened the scoring in a league match this season
and in a week when manager Brian McDermott ruled himself out of the Republic Of Ireland's manager job it was a super three points for the visitors.

Ex Liverpool star David Ngog went close for Bolton but found Paddy Kenny in excellent form between the sticks for Leeds. We are now in sixth place, playing some decent football and getting our back four playing as a unit who knows what this season will bring. Marching On Together

At Least Marian Was Happy

Leeds United 0 Queens Park Rangers 1

Queens Park Rangers excellent start to life back in the Championship continued with a scrappy win at Leeds. In a poor game at Elland Road Clint Hill scored his first goal in two-and-a-half years, tucking in from two yards following Joey Barton's free-kick. Barton had an early finish ruled out for offside, despite television replays appearing to show him level. Rodolph Austin nearly rescued a point for previously unbeaten Leeds in injury time, but his dipping shot hit the bar.

Happy 50th Frankie

Last Tuesday one of our staunchest members Frankie Woods celebrated hid 50th birthday on the island of Maderia. Well if he couldn't celebrated it at home what better place for our sun worshipping Frankie to enjoy this auspicious occasion than with a beer and the rays beating down.

Frankie is on a three year assignment in The Hague and has already a year completed. Next week will see some of Frankie's friends head over for a few days and no doubt reminisce and celebrate the big 50 in style. Congratulations and Best Wishes Frankie from all your friends at ENNISLUSC. MARCHING ON TOGETHER

Portman Road Hoodoo Broken At Last

Ipswich Town 1 Leeds United 2

When The Tractor Boys went ahead on 12 mins through David McGoldrick things didn't look good for United at Portman Road considering their dismal record there over the last twelve seasons. Leeds have only picked up one point from their previous six visits, scoring just four goals with our last victory being a 2-1 success in the Premier League in September 2001.Ipswich went ahead when Daryl Murphy flicked on Loach's clearance and McGoldrick beat Tom Lees to fire the ball home off the inside of the post. This was no more than Mick McCarthy's boys deserved having earlier having a goal ruled out for offside.

On 28 mins Luke Varney made it 1-1 after Ross McCormack's 25-yard shot rebounded into his path and he finished with aplomb. It stayed like this until HT but three minutes later that man Ross McCormack struck his third goal of the season.… Read more

Status Quo After ENNISLUSC AGM

Following the televised game vs Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday the club held their Annual AGM. Secretary Paul Nihill outlined some of the highlights of the year and the success of the 3rd running of The Mike Mac Golf Classic. This was followed by Treasurer Johnny Moroney who said the finances were in a very healthy state and that €2,000 would be going to Cahercalla Hospice following the golf classic. All outgoing officers were elected en block and then it was open to the floor for questions.

The question of new club gear was raised and it was proposed that we check out the cost of polo tops and rain gear with a view to the club subsidizing them. It was proposed that the club's first trip would be to the Middlesboro game on Saturday 23rd Nov as the new Ryanair route from Liverpool would be running on Sunday evenings for the… Read more

Kenny To The Rescue

Leeds United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 1

Scottish International Ross McCormack once again came to the rescue of United with a stunning individual goal on 58 mins. Ross has scored 31 goals in 112 games for Leeds since joining from Cardiff in August 2010 and has been the subject of three failed bids from Middlesboro in the last three weeks. On this showing it's imperative that we keep him and Brian McDermott is adamant he wants him to stay, let's hope the board feel likewise.

The Owels collected their first point of the season and could have taken all three against Leeds but for two superb saves by Paddy Kenny.
They went ahead on 37 mins when defender Kamil Zayatte's headed home following a corner but then came Ross's moment of magic. Three games down and still undefeated but Brian McDermott will be concerned that we went behind for the third time… Read more

Ennislusc AGM On Saturday 17th Aug

Once again Leeds are live on Sky Sports 1 tomorrow for the local derby vs Sheffield Wednesday KO 12.15pm. After the game the AGM on Ennislusc will take place with the usual election of officers, discussion on the previous years events and of course the proposed trips for this season.

Our esteemed secretary Paul Nihill has indicated that the Yeovil (Nov 2nd) and the Middlesboro (Nov 23rd) games seem to be our best options so we will go with the general conscious of the meeting. Looking forward to seeing all our existing members and intended members tomorrow for what should be a fiery derby game.

Dour Affair At The King Power Stadium

Leicester City 0 Leeds United 0

With both teams having won their opening fixtures this game could see the winners going top of the table but alas it was a dour stalemate with Brian McDermott being the happier manager. The 2-1 victory over Watford on the final day of last season is Leeds's only away league win in 2013 and if they are to challenge for promotion this statistic has to improve drastically.

The Foxes finished stronger and striker Chris Wood's shot on 82 mins came back off the Leeds post.Leeds substitute Matt Smith did give the home side a late scare when his far post header was tipped against the side-netting by ex United keeper Kasper Schmeichel. However the stat of only two shots being on target in the whole game ( both to Leicester) tells it's own story of this fixture. Never the less two games down ,undefeated and four… Read more

Luke To The Rescue

Leeds United 2 Brighton 1

Leeds £1m summer signing from Crew Alexandra,Luke Murphy grabbed a 93rd minute winner on his debut as United came from behind to beat Brighton & Hove Albion in the opening fixture of 120th season of the Football League. The Whites have won their first league game in all-but two of the last 10 seasons now and have scored on the opening day in the last 13 campaigns. Leo Ulloa put the Seagulls ahead on 13 mins when Tom Lees failed to cut out Andrew Crofts's and he made no mistake from eight yards.

Last season's top scorer Ross McCormack pulled the sides level on 19th mins when he finished neatly after Michael Tonge and Luke Varney combined to set him up.Paddy Kenny was forced into a stunning double save to deny Crofts and Inigo Calderon in the second half before Poleon and Paul Green wasted… Read more

Tan Greene Leads Out United

Last Monday evening Ennislusc member Tan Greene from Sixmilebridge had the honour of leading out Leeds United in their friendly with Shelbourne at Tolka Park. His dad Kevin a staunch Leeds fan and Ennislusc member was there also and they met all the players with Irish International Noel Hunt giving Tan his jersey after the game.

This all came about through the links Kevin forged with the Leeds United Academy who held a two day coaching course in Sixmilebridge in July. As a result of Kevin's determination a number of young players will be going to Torp Arch for a coaching course and Colm O Loughlin from Avenue Utd is already at the Academy.

With connections now set in stone with Terry Potter and his coaching team it's hoped in the future that many more young players from Clare and beyond will be give a opportunity to shoe case their skills… Read more
