Missed Penalty Proves Very Costly

Queens Park Rangers 1 Leeds United 1

QPR came from behind to claim a point against Yorkshire rivals Leeds who will regret a first half missed penalty for top scorer Ross McCormack. He was felled in the penalty area on 9 mins by Richard Dunne but Rob Green dived to his left to easily save McCormack's poorly hit spot kick. However Ross McCormack gave Leeds the lead with a deflected free-kick on 14th mins from the edge of the area.

United were playing their best football of the season but received a sucker punch on 44mins. QPR midfielder Jermaine Jenas capitalized on a bad mistake by Leeds full back Stephen Warnock to slot past Jack Butland from the edge of the area.
Armand Traore fired straight at Butland and Leeds debutant Connor Wickham twice went close, but it ended all-square. Brian McDermott classes it as a positive point but after all… Read more

New Signing Butland Hero For Leeds

Middlesborough 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds play-off hopes continue to fade after they were held to a goalless draw at The Riverside thanks to a Man Of The Match performance from on loan golkeeper Jack Butland (Stoke). Midfielder Luke Murphy sent a rasping drive just wide for the United but that was as good as it got for Brian McDermott's boys in a dour encounter.

Danny Graham twice went close after the break for Boro who have now gone 10 hours without a goal but was denied by Butland. He also denied Albert Adomah after the forward found himself one-on-one with 86 mins on the clock but failed to find the target. The result means Leeds are now seven points off the play-offs and while Brian Mac reckons it's a positive point it's hard to see the Leeds fans agreeing with that assessment.

Downed By The Seagulls

Brighton & Hove Albion 1 Leeds United 0

Leonardo Ulloa's second-half strike helped Brighton edge past United in a game of few chances that was dominated by the home side. The Argentine forward won the game for The Gulls when he was left unmarked to shoot past Paddy Kenny on 64 mins and propel Brighton up to 7th at the expense of Leeds.

United midfielder Alex Mowatt twice shot weakly at Brighton goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak either side of the break and these two tame efforts were the best that McDermott's men could offer in another lack luster display. Perhaps these take over talks have an unsettling effect on the squad but what is sure our play off prospects are fading faster with each passing game.

Freak Goals Seals it For Leeds

Yeovil Town 1 Leeds United 2

A game of two halves is the only way to describe this encounter at a windy Huish Park. Back in charge after last weeks shenanigans Brian McDermott saw his Leeds side recover from a goal down and secure only their second win in 10 games.
Ex QPR striker Ishmael Miller headed Yeovil ahead on 32 mins following a corner but failed to extend his side's advantage when he missed a penalty on the stroke of half time. Sam Byram fouled Kevin Dawson in the penalty and there were no ifs or butts as it was a stonewall penalty.

Leeds got back on level terms straight from the kick off following a disastrous mistake by the Yeovil keeper Stech. Now kicking with the wind against him he struggled to get any distance on his clearance and the ball fell for McCormack, who curled in a brilliant shot into… Read more

Congratulations James And Shaunagh

Last weekend our good friend and staunch Ennislusc member James Barry announced his engagement to the beautiful Shaunagh Walshe from Waterford. Well we can't say this came as a surprise as James and Shaunagh have been on numerous trips to Elland Road with us and indeed joined us in November for the Middlesborough. They are also heading up from London on 23rd March for the Millwall game when we will get to congratulate them in person over a few drinks. All their friends at Ennislusc wish them sincere congratulations and also to James's parents Kevin and Noelette who are also members of Ennislusc since it's beginning. Never was Marching on Together so apt !

Brilliant Captain Ross Inspires The Whites

Leeds United 5 Huddersfield Town 1

Ross McCormack scored a hat-trick as United thrashed Huddersfield after going a goal down and without manager Brian McDermott who was reportedly sacked late on Friday night. Ross scored twice from close range (on 45mins and 62 mins) and then converted Cameron Stewart's cross to complete his hat trick on 73mins.

New signing Jimmy Kebe finished from McCormack's pass on 50 mins for his first Leeds goal and youngster Alex Mowatt chipped in a fifth goal on 82 mins. Daniel Ward had given the visitors the lead with a low strike on 25 mins and it looked like more doom and gloom was on the way for the long suffering Leeds fans. However credit to the players for raising their game to another level and giving a great lift to the fans and in particular Brian McDermott who was reinstated on Sunday evening to end… Read more

Turbulent Times at Elland Road

At 8.10pm on Friday night on Sky Sports (last day of January Transfer Window) all Leeds fans were left devestated with the news that Brian McDermott had been sacked but there was no official statement coming from the Leeds hierarchy. The story was that Massimo Cellino owner to Italian side Cagliari had bough a 75% stake in the club from GFH Sports Capital and wanted to put compatriot Gianluca Festa in charge.

With the fans totally in the dark and nothing coming from the directors it was obvious that the fans were going to protest at the home game vs Yorkshire rivals Huddersfield Town and that exactly what happened. Over 31,000 fans turned up at Elland Road and voiced their disgust with the board over their treatment of McDermott. They continually sang his name throughout the game and held posters over their heads reading 'Bring Brian Back and GFH You Disgrace Us… Read more

Six Defeats in a Row For The Whites

Leeds United 0 Leicester City 1

On a day when there was a minutes silence for the late great Bobby Collins (Footballer of the Year 1965) his beloved Leeds gave a heart warming display only to be caught with a later sucker punch from The Foxes. David Nugent grabbed a 87 minute winner as Championship leaders Leicester City stretched their advantage to seven points and doomed United to their sixth straight defeat, their fourth in a row in the league.

Leeds created a host of chances before the break as they restored pride with a fine display following their trashing against Sheffield Wednesday. Ross McCormack who was made club captain during the week hit the post with a header and could have had a hat-trick in the first 15 mins. He missed a glorious chance when one on one with Casper Schmichel but his chip was anticipated by the… Read more

Worst League Defeat In 54 years Tells It All

Sheffield Wednesday 6 Leeds United 0

This defeat will sicken every Leeds supporter to the core as the players were bereft of pride, determination or respect for the jersey and manager Brian McDermott looked in a daze on the sidelines. Playing our two new signings Cameron Stewart and Jimmy Kebe for the lunchtime kick off seemed a poor decision by McDermott as neither player has played with their respective clubs and only joined Leeds in the last 48 hrs. And so it proved as neither were in the game and looked short of match fitness.

The last time Leeds concede six league goals was on 9th Sept 1959 away to Man United but The Owels were 20th in The Championship this morning and absolutely destroyed Leeds despite Matt Smith receiving a red card after only coming on as a substitute 45 seconds earlier. This cannot in any way be used as an… Read more

Dismal Festival Period For The Whites

Leeds United 1 Blackburn Rovers 2

Once again Leeds can a cropper to Rovers and have now lost the last five meetings between the teams. One point from the three festive fixtures sends out a dire warning that the squad need new blood if we are to seriously consider a top six finish at seasons end.To compound matters for United former Leeds academy midfielder Tom Cairney inspired Blackburn to victory against his old club at Elland Road.

Cairney (22) on loan from Hull laid on first-half goals for Jordan Rhodes with a super through ball and Rudy Gestede headed a second on 36 mins to give The Riversiders a deserved half time lead. Matt Smith fired home for Leeds after 52 minutes following a defensive error to give us some hope but that was as good as it got for The Whites. Now all depends on the January transfer window to strengthen… Read more

Seamus is a life long White and is a legend in Clare football following his exploits with his beloved Kilrush Shamrocks and The Banner senior footballers. Great to have ye on board boys and look forward to seeing ye on many more trips to Elland Road.

Lost In The Forest

Nottingham Forest 2 Leeds United 1

Matt Derbyshire scored a superb winner (84 mins) one minute after Leeds had equalised to push Forest back into a top six place and knocked Brian McDermott's boys back to 7th place. In truth it was a game Billy Davies team deserved to win as the dominated all the stats against a lack luster Leeds.

United looked to have secured a point when Ross McCormack fired home in the 83rd-minute to cancel out Greg Halford's first-half header but then
Derbyshire came up with a 25-yard stunner just a minute later. It is patiently obvious that we have to add to our squad in the January transfer window but talk of Max Gradel coming back to Elland Road after two years in France with St Etienne doesn't inspire confidence.

Gradel scored 25 goals in 77 league appearances for the Whites before moving to France in August 2011 but don't… Read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL YOU WHITES

Another year dawns and our aspirations are still the same, when will we get back to the holy grail of The Premiership. Since Brian McDermott took charge last April we have seen some positive performances but unfortunately to date the new owners haven't been to kind in loosing the purse strings for the purchase of new players.

We now lie 7th in the table, something we would have taken at the start of the season. However we need to kick on and hopefully in this January transfer window we'll see some new arrivals at Elland Road to push for a play off place next May.The manager has identified four targets he'd love to add to the squad so it's now up to the board to stand by their word and dig deep in the club coffers. If these players came in it would give everyone a lift from the die hard supporters… Read more

Point For United At Bloomfield Road

Blackpool 1 Leeds United 1

While Brendan Rodgers was happy with a point in this away fixture I think the majority of Leeds fans will be disappointed as this was a game we should have won.Tom Ince's (son of manager Paul Ince of Man Utd fame) second-half equaliser on 65 mins earned Blackpool a point against a stubborn Leeds at Bloomfield Road.

Leeds right back Lee Peltier headed the visitors in front on 23 mins from Danny Pugh's cross and they were well on top when HT was blown. Against the run of play Thomas Ince's shot on 65 mins deflected off Marius Zaliukas to bring the Seasiders level with his seventh goal of the season.

Ex Glasgow Rangers defender Kirk Broadfoot was sent off for a lunge at Zaliukas on 87 mins (Blackpool's ninth red card of the season) but it made little difference to United. Lee Peltier opened the… Read more

Dour Derby Draw

Leeds United 0 Barnsley 0

Leeds remain in 5th place in the Championship while Barnsley remain bottom after a hard-fought draw at Elland Road. New Barnsley manager Danny Wilson returned to Oakwell earlier this week and watched his team earn only their fifth away point of the season. His last match in charge of The Tykes was a 2-0 home defeat by Manchester United in May 1998, their last match of their only season in the top flight.

Incidentally Leeds had won only one of their last six matches against Barnsley and ex-Oldham striker Matt Smith should have scored twice in the opening 12 minutes. When Marcus Tudgay was sent off on 83 mins for an over the ball tackle on Marius Zaliukas (who's now doubtful for the St Stephen's Day clash away to Blackpool) it looked like Leeds would finally break the deadlock but alas they never threatened a stubborn Barnsley… Read more

Up To 6th For The Whites

Doncaster Rovers 0 Leeds United 3

This was a rare away win for Brian McDermott's boys and after losing six of the last seven games away from home in all competitions it was a vital win for Leeds's promotion ambitions. We rode our luck a little especially in the second half when Rovers were unlucky not to equalise when Theo Robinson had a goal controversially ruled out for offside.Leeds were the better side in the first half and went ahead on 17th mins when Matt Smith headed in Alex Mowatt's free-kick and this is the way it stayed until half time.

It was all Donny in the 2nd half and against the run of play on 76 mins Leeds hit their second goal.It was that man Ross again who was scoring his 11th goal in his last 7 games which is a fantastic strike rate in any division.Ross scored in opportunist style… Read more

Run Comes To An End

Blackburn Rovers 1 Leeds United 0 30th Nov

It's over a decade since Blackburn last beat Leeds at home in the league when Garry Flitcroft scored in the 1-0 Premier League victory in September 2002 but they changed that stat with a first half injury time goal from defender Tommy Spurr. This was a game in which the first goal was always going to matter and this proved to be the case as Rovers clung on too their slender lead despite the best efforts of Rudolph Austin and Ross McCormack.

Ross On The Double

Leeds United 2 Wigan Athletic 0 4th Dec

Ross McCormack scored twice as United got back to winning ways beating the managerless Latica and move up to seventh in the Championship table. This was United's first ever win over Wigan in five previous meetings.Ross has now scored 9 goals in six matches and hopefully we can hold on to him in the January transfer window. The visitors were able to call upon England goalkeeper and ex Leeds keeper Scott Carson for the first time since October after he recovered from an ankle injury and he endured a busy night of action.

McCormack bundled home his eighth goal in six matches on 15 mins to ease the nerves before adding a second on 77 mins with a brilliant curling free-kick. If one was to go on the stats they would see that Wigan had 66 per cent possession which is an enormous amount… Read more

Just Short Of Super Comeback

Watford 3 Leeds United 3 7th Dec

Troy Deeney's (who was sent off at the last fixture at Vicarage Road)late strike rescuing a point foir The Hornets in a superb game at Elland Road. Having raced int a 0-2 lead at half time thanks to goals by Deeney and Christian Battocchio.

However it was a different United that appeared for the second haf and Danny Pugh put the home side back in the game with a tidy finish from a tight angle on 50 mins. Then rangy centre forward Matt Smith nodded in the equaliser on 56 mins from close range and the pendulum had swung in favour of The Whites. On 78 mins Ross McCormack ran through to slip in Leeds third until the gloss was taken from the result with that late Deeney goal which cost us 5th spot in the table so slender are the margins in The… Read more
