Three Massive Points

Leeds United 1 Middlesbrough 0

Ennislusc were well represented at Elland Road for the first home game of The Championship with Paul ( Nuggy) Nihill, Bryan Woods, Dom O Rourke, Richie Lynch, Marty Brennan, James and Kevin Barry and John Galvin all in attendance and seeing a hard earned if fortunate victory. It was welcome relief for new Leeds manager Dave Hockaday after Billy Sharp's winner on 88 minutes following Boro keeper Mejias Osorio fumbling a Michael Tonge shot from outside the box.

Sharp was making his debut for United and had missed a promising chance minutes earlier when he headed wide from eight yards. Just before half time Boro thought they had scored through winger Albert Adomah's bicycle kick only to have the effort disallowed. Leeds full back Stephen Warnock was stooping to head the ball and Premiership referee Stuart Attwell adjudged that it was dangerous play and awarded Leeds a… Read more

Opening Day Disaster No Surprise

Millwall 2 Leeds United 0

Leeds had won 11 of their previous 14 opening-day fixtures but they made a poor start to the 2014-15 campaign at The New Den who finished 19th last season took the lead in the eighth minute following terrible defending. A short corner was worked back to Lee Martin who crossed from the right to find full back Beevers sliding in to hammer home.

Leeds looked poor but came close to levelling within seconds of the restart when Republic Of Ireland goalkeeper David Forde's fumble gave the ball to Ajose who played the ball to Noel Hunt but Alan Dunne cleared the ball away from the empty net. The nail in the Leeds coffin came with two minutes remaining when The Lions were awarded a spot-kick and Williams to fire an accurate shot beyond Silvestri from 12 yards.

So bad day at the office for Dave Hockaday and not… Read more

Let The Season Begin

Another season is about to kick off and one think for sure is that us Leeds fans are in for another roller coaster year. With our new owner Massimo Cellino appointing a new manager in David Hockaday ex Forest Green ( who I hear you say), demanding that all the players live in Leeds, sells our top scorer Ross McCormack (whether we like it or not one couldn't turn down £11M, record for a Championship player) and wants to buy back Elland Road we are entitled to be somewhat skeptical. Our summer singings including two goalkeepers do not inspire confidence and are as follows:Nicky Ajose (Peterborough United),Gaetano Berardi (Sampdoria),Tommaso Bianch (Sassuolo),Souleymane Doukar,(Catania),Marco Silvestr (Chievo)and Stuart Taylor (Reading).

While it is noble of Massimo to try and buy back the ground results on the field are what counts and we will have some idea by the end of August were this ship is… Read more

Good Wishes Alan

It was with shock we learned on Saturday 26th July that our colleague and staunch Leeds supporter Alan Murphy had suffer a torn achilles tendon in a charity game. In actual fact Alan only got the call on Friday night as numbers were short and true to form he was not found wanting when the call came.

Alan is now over his operation but faces a long rehabilitation and all his friends at Ennislusc wish him a speedy recovery.

Smith To The Rescue After Dismal Season

Leeds United 1 Derby County 1

On a day when 54 children and adults from Sixmilebridge made the journey to Elland Road they were rewarded with a draw and a near 30,000 attendance (29,724). The Rams had already qualified for the play offs and have set a Championship record with 83 goals before Saturday and a club records points score of 85 so they were a formidable outfit to end United's season on.

Simon Dawkins gave the visitors a sixth-minute lead finishing left-footed past England goalkeeper Jack Butland. However five minutes after half-time Leeds equalised when Matt Smith lobbed Lee Grant following good work from Danny Pugh and Ross McCormack. There after Ross who who the Players Player and Fans Player of the Year had two chances to win it but his efforts went narrowly wide.

So a season that started with so much promise end with us having a new owner, sacking… Read more

Successful 4th Mike Mac Golf Classic

The weather may not have being kind on Saturday last for the 4th Annual Mike Mac Golf Classic run by the Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club but it did not deter 18 teams from taking part and raising much needed funds for The Clare Crusaders and Cahercalla Hospice. Unfortunately this year the legendary John Giles couldn't join us as he had a prior engagement in Leeds but will join us in late July for a social round of golf in Ennis GC. He did however send his good wishes on the day via satellite link to Ennislusc member Alan Murphy who was celebrating his 50th birthday as in previous years Alan and his son Tadgh had caddied for John.

Considering the recent storms last February the course was in immaculate condition and our heartfelt thanks goes to green keepers Kevin Browne, David Hoey and their team. We cannot forget all our… Read more

4th Mike Mac Golf Classic

Well it's here once again and hard to believe that a year has passed since the last Mike Mac Classic. We are two weeks later than usual and as of writing we have 18 teams declared which is fantastic. It is proposed to give the monies collected this year to The Clare Crusaders and Cahercalla Hospice both worthy causes and dear to our hearts. This year unfortunately John Giles can't make it as he has a prior engagement in Leeds but the good news is he will coming down in the summer for a days golf in Ennis and a night on the town with Ennislusc members.

Looking forward to seeing the Leeds flags flying high in Ennis Golf Club tomorrow and here's hoping the sun shines for all the golfers.

Happy 50th Alan

Saturday 26th is a very special day for our club member and true White Alan Murphy who celebrates his 50th birthday in the Ennis Golf Club. It is also the day of the Mike Mac Classic which is run by Ennislusc so there will be a huge turnout of Leeds supporters and no better man than Alan to sing the Leeds anthem Marching On Together.

Alan is having a 60's,70's and 80's disco on the night and there is a slide show being done by his family which should bring some laughs. There is also a birthday message from a very special man but all will be revealed on the night. All Alan's friends at Ennislusc wish him a sincere and Happy Birthday and remember the secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age. Marching On Together

Marty Is Getting Married

And we all thought our club stalwart Marty Brennan was never going to propose to the love of his life Melissa O Connell but our Marty caught us all on the hop and did it in style. He brought Melissa to New York for her birthday and proposed to her on the top of The Empire State Building.

Now Marty didn't say if he went down on one knee but we'll give him the benefit of the doubt and by all accounts it is some rock of diamonds that he melted Melissa heart with when she said yes. As we all know this is only step one for Marty in walking down the aisle and going on his track record to date it will be some while before that happens. Best Wishes to Marty and Melissa from all your friends at Ennislusc. Definitely Marching On Together is very appropriate for… Read more

Chopped Down By Forest

Leeds United 0 Nottingham Forest 2

Two early goals from Matt Derbyshire earned Nottingham Forest a deserved win at Elland Road in what was another dire display from the home side. It will be interesting to see if Brian McDermott is there in the summer as his tactics here were poor and he changed from a 5-3-2 to a 4-4-4 and finally the orthodox 4-3-3 but all to no avail. With nine of the first team out of contract this summer changes have to be made and quickly.

Get Well Kevin

On Friday last our club member Kevin Greene unfortunately fell and broke his ankle in three places. And this on the day before John Giles came to Sixmilebridge to launch the Bridge United - Leeds United Summer Camp which was the brain child of Kevin's.

However undaunted Kevin went to hospital had surgery on his ankle and was there on Saturday morning for the meet and launch in The Mill Bar. All at Ennislusc wish Kevin a speedy recovery and wish him and all at Bridge United success with their summer school.

More Doom And Gloom For United

Wigan 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds suffered their seventh defeat in eight games as Martyn Waghorn's first-half goal on 33 mins gave Wigan victory at the DW Stadium. This was United 10th game to be shown live on Sky Sports but unfortunately there was nothing much to cheer about for their loyal supporters. Leeds improved in the second half with Wigan goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi saving from Michael Tonge but that was as good as it got for Bran McDermotts men.

Heartbreaking Stuff

Leeds United 0 Charlton Athletic 1

Following another night of woe Leeds who failed to pay their players on Friday have now won just one of their last 10 games. Charlton took all three points when Ghoochannejhad curled home the only goal of the game from the edge of the penalty area on 54 mins. Leeds were handed a chance to equalise in injury-time but Ben Hamer saved Ross McCormack's late penalty.

More Misery At The Road

Leeds United 1 Doncaster Rovers 2

No excuse and Brian McDermott said they same, it was a horrendous performance and defies words. Yes Doncaster are fighting for their lives and our players have to take a deferred part payment of their wages for March but there is no excuse for last of effort or fighting spirit. Don Revie and Billy Bremner must be turning in their graves at the demise of their beloved Whites and those that took their places at Elland Road.

This was United 5th loss in six matches and were two down at half time before Ross McCormack hit his 28th goal of the season but there ended the fight back. With United losing more than £1m a month and Massimo Cellino's bid to buy a majority stake in the club blocked by the Football League it will need some knight in shining armor to sort out the… Read more

Is There Any End To This Nightmare

Bournemouth 4 Leeds United 1

Four down after 51 minutes tells it's own story of yet another dire and inept performance from Leeds. Brian McDermott said in his post match interview "We need the ownership of this club to be sorted in the right and proper way. It does affect what is going on, on the pitch - there is no doubt about that. I have not had this before, a team that concedes four or five goals and we need to sort it out very, very quickly." However it's time he and the players took some responsibility and started to give blood, sweat and tears for the shirt instead of rolling out these constant excuses.

Leeds have now won only two of their last nine league games but what concerns supporters most is the lack of pride the players are showing. One has to exclude Ross McCormack from this assertion as… Read more

A Win But All Not Well At Elland Road

Leeds United 2 Millwall 1

United ended a turbulent week off the pitch with a first win in seven matches in all competitions against The Tigers. While it was a valuable three points those of us from Ennilusc who were on the club's 21st trip were not overly impressed with proceedings. Yes we won but there was an element of luck in gaining the points and one would not be inspired with the performance.

Leeds had shown little threat in the opening until the impressive Connor Wickham (since recalled to Sunderland after a month on loan) launched a long ball into the box and Matt Smith's well-placed header gave him a 10th league goal of the season. Ross McCormack then scored his 25th league goal of the campaign in the 41st min when he cut in from the right wing before slotting an effort between David Forde's legs.

On 72 mins Blackburn loanee… Read more

25th Trip For Ennislusc

This weekend sees our club embark on their 25th trip to Elland Road for the game with Millwall. While gone are the days of the 40+ member trips never the less the hardy band that will depart from Shannon tomorrow will honour the club with their presence at the holy grail. It says a lot about our supporters club that despite the recent humiliating defeats we will still have 12 members at the game. Once a White always a White and we'll be Marching On Together through thick and thin supporting our boys.

The Rot Continues

Burnley 2 Leeds United 1

Leeds dismal run continued with yet another defeat at Turf Moor to high flying Burnley. It started well for United with Ross McCormack hitting a post when one on one with the keeper but he made amends on 27 mins. Ross put Leeds in front with a powerful header from a Connor Wickham throw but the Clarets replied when Jason Pearce diverted Kieran Trippier's cross into his own net on the stroke of half time.

This was a body blow to McDermotts men and it got worse on 67 mins when Scott Arfield clinched the win when he met Ben Mee's cross and fired home at the second attempt.Despite having the lions share of posession Leeds couldn't muster another shoy on goal and we are now down to 14th in the table. The play offs are but a distant dream now and its playing for pride now… Read more

Oh Holy God, What Next !

Leeds United 2 Reading 4

And to think we are making a club trip over for the Millwall game on Saturday week after yet another atrocious performance. Four nil down after 54 mins it was only two quick goals on 63and 64 mins from Smith and Rudy Austin that put a gloss on another dire performance. I am so disgusted that there is little point in me venting my frustration as it will do my blood pressure little good and the players are not worth it.

Beyond Belief

Leeds United 1 Bolton Wanderers 5

Hard to credit but that scoreline reads true and it a terrible indictment on all that is bad at Elland Road presently. We keep saying how could it get worse but that's what's happening. Have the players lost confidence, how can Brian McDermott motivate them with all the uncertainty and for sure the supporters are getting mighty disillusioned.

The was Leeds first game at Elland Road since their 5-1 thrashing of Huddersfield on 1 February but that seems like a lifetime ago. Suffice to say we were totally outplayed, out thought and out classed with our goal from Matt Smith came in injury time. With Reading up next on Tuesday night one can only hold their breath and see what reaction we get from the players. I wouldn't be expecting much, confidence is shattered and when that's gone you are in serious trouble.
