Agony At The Death

Wolverhampton Wanderers 4 Leeds United 3

Substitute Dave Edwards headed home a late winner as Wolves beat Leeds to move into the Championship play-off places and put a damper on a great comeback by Neil Redfearn's boys. It looked like being a great end to the Bank Holiday weekend until Woles hit an 88 minute winner to knock the spirits off a gallant United. Leeds had fought back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3 before Edwards diverted home from Kevin McDonald's cross.

Young Charlie Taylor scored his first senior goal for Leeds but two goals from Nouha Dicko and a strike from Benik Afobe put Kenny Jackett's side in control. An own goal from Danny Batth got Leeds back in it before Alex Mowatt levelled with a scorching effort from 20 yards. We still have major problems at the back and our continued off field antics are not helping the… Read more

Stalemate At The Tangerines

Blackpool 1 Leeds United 1

Leeds came back to draw at bottom-of-the-table Blackpool in a game boycotted by hundreds of home supporters. Gary Madine put the hosts in front with a diving header just on half time after Andrea Orlandi's free-kick hit the woodwork.
However substitute Mirco Antenucci levelled for United on 62 mins with a neat lob but the Seasiders stopped their run of six successive defeats. Truthfully Leeds played way below par and can be well pleased to have gained a point even if the majority of soccer punters would have it down for an away win on the pools.

United Put Cottagers To The Sword

Fulham 0 Leeds United 3

Goals from Sam Byram, Sol Bamba and Mirco Antenucci ensured a Leeds victory at Craven Cottage for the first time in over 30 years.
Sam Byram opened the scoring on 40 minutes against the run of play and Bamba headed in from a corner three minutes after the restart. Fulham then had defender Kostas Stafylidis dismissed for two quick bookings before Antenucci made it three late on.

Ex Leeds forwards Matt Smith and Ross McCormack, both recruited from Leeds last summer for a combined fee of £11.5m each missed good early chances before Byram put Leeds ahead, heading in Gaetano Berardi's cross. United are now up to 12th and if the form we have shown since 1st January was there in the first half of the season we would definitely be in promotion territory.

Best Forgot But A Point Gained

Leeds United 0 Nottingham Forest 0

In front of the biggest home crowd of the season (30,722) a draw was a fair result in a game which defences dominated. In a poor first half Forest keeper Karl Darlow saved at close range from Charlie Taylor and Chris Burke forced a good save out of Marco Silvestri after a Forest counter attack in the second half. Both managers will be happy with a point apiece but I'm sure the fans were well disappointed with the football on show.Still we're moving up the table away from the relegation fight which is all that matters.

Lactics Downed By Alex

Wigan Athletic 0 Leeds United 1

Alex Mowatt struck his second goal in four days on 51 minutes for Leeds to give them a valueable three points. Long time Wigan chairman Dave Whelan's passionate speech on the pitch before kick-off failed to inspire a first home win since August. While United had only 42 percent possession and only 9 shots to Wigan's 19 they eked a tremendous win. Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri had to tip over a late James McClean free-kick to insure a happy journey home for the fans.

Penalty Save Downs The Tractor Boys

Leeds United 2 Ipswich Town 1

Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri was the hero of the night Marco when he atoned for conceding a soft goal by saving a penalty with seven minutes remaining. It was a fantastic win for United who were beaten 4-1 by Mick McCarthys at Portman Road earlier in the season. Alex Mowatt 71st minute free-kick put Leeds in front but Silvestri fumbled a Freddie Sears shot into his own goal three minutes later. Sears had only been on the pitch two minutes and scored with his first touch.

Four minutes later United were back in front with an excellent volley from Billy Sharp. However when Ipswich were awarded a penalty after Sol Bamba handled, Silvestri redeemed himself by pushing Daryl Murphy's kick onto the post. In a text to our esteemed Club Secretary Nuggy after the game I said Leeds really put you through the ringer ever… Read more

Utopia Then Calamity At Elland Road

Leeds United 2 Watford 3

Two goals up after twenty minutes and all the Leeds fans were looking at another home win but then the dream became a nightmare as The Hornets fought back for an unlikely win.Billy Sharp's tap in on seven minutes followed by Rodolph Austin's stunning volley on 19 minutes looked to have given the home side the upper hand. However on 39 minutes Troy Deeney gave Watford a glimmer of hope with an excellent finish fro twelve yards.

After the break Matej Vydra equalised on 56 mins scoring from a Deeney cross. The Czech then scored a dramatic winner as he latched on to another Deen pass and fired the ball home after his initial shot was saved by Marco Silvestri. So not a good day for the loyal Leeds fans with all the old failings returning to haunt the defence.

Seagulls Shoot Down The Whites

Brighton 2 Leeds United 0

It was back to earth for United after a great run of four wins in five games but Brighton remain a bogey team as we lost for the seventh time in eight games to The Seagulls. Thanks to goals from Sam Baldock and Inigo Calderon Brighton moved six points clear of the relegation zone. Baldock scored his fourth goal of the season when he scored from six yards after Calderon's cross on 26 minutes and was no more than they deserved.

Calderon made it 2-0 after the break when Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri parried Beram Kayal's shot and Calderon shot home the rebound on 63 minutes. It was game over then for Leeds who manager Neil Redfearn said they had played below par, looked tired and Brighton deserved their win.

Resilient United Get Their Rewards

Middlesborough 0 Leeds United 1

What a difference a month makes ! Who would have believed we would be winning our fifth game in six and that at the home of The Championship leaders. United produced a fantastic display of defending to stifle Boro and inflict their first home defeat since August. It was Alex Mowatts deflected shot from the edge of the area on three minutes which set United on the road to an unlikely victory. Alex was scoring the winner for the second consecutive Saturday as he hit the winner at Elland Road vs Millwall seven days previously.

However the hero of the day for Leeds was goalkeeper Marco Silvestri who produced a string of superb saves and certainly showed why Neil Redfearn has shown such faith in him despite some early season blunders.New captain Sol Bamba was superb in defence and has been an inspirational loan signing.Hopefully he can… Read more

The Lion is Put To Sleep Tonight

Leeds United 1 Millwall 0

Midfielder Alex Mowatt's brilliant free-kick gave Leeds victory over the Ian Holloway managed Lions. The Whites eased their own relegation worries and moved eight points clear of the drop zone. Steve Morison who has been praised by Neil Redfearn for his tremendous workrate could have added a second but lost out in a one-on-one.
In the dying minutes Millwall could have grabbed an equaliser but Martyn Woolford fired over.

United Topple The Royals

Reading 0 Leeds United 2

Second-half goals from Luke Murphy and Sam Byram gave Leeds a third win in four matches in their fight to avoid relegation and a rare win at The Madejski Stadium. Luke's 35 yard shot deceived Reading goalkeeper Adam Federic on 63 minutes to give Leeds a fortuitous lead. United were grateful when keeper Marco Silvestri made an terrific save from Danny Williams block buster to prevent an equaliser.

With seven minutes of injury time signaled and the Leeds fans nerves frayed up stepped young Sam Byram to seal the win in the last minute when nodding in unmarked at the far post from a Steve Morison cross. We have endured many Tuesday night blues but this was a sweet victory which hopefully will kick start the drive out of the dreaded relegation zone for Neil Redfearn's boys. Marching On Together

Redfearn Fury At Non Penalty Awards

Leeds United 0 Brentford 1

United will feel aggrieved they did not get at least a point with referee Graham Salisbury waving away three penalty claims which irked the home crowd who loudly booed him off the pitch. The first penalty appeal came just before the break, when Rudy Austin stumbled in the area after a shove from Moses Odubajo. Then just after the interval Austin again fell in the area to no avail while on the hour Billy Sharp went to ground but once again the appeals were in vain.

To really pour salt in the wounds The Bees took the lead on 65 minutes when Alex Pritchard arrived at the far post to turn the ball home. They now move up to 4th in the table something that would not have been predicted at the start of the season while Leeds languish in 20th place. It says it all about our season.

Better Late Than Never

Huddersfield Town 1 Leeds United 2

Billy Sharp was the hero of the hour for The Whites in this televised Yorkshire derby against The Terriers. His 90th minute header following a Antenucc cross secured a derby victory and eased the relegation concerns of Neal Redfearn's side.
Sam Byram had put Leeds in front with a one-on-one finish on seven minutes before Harry Bunn headed in a corner on 26 minutes to level.
United are now five points above the Championship drop zone but there is a long way to go yet in the season.

I Didn't See That Coming

Leeds United 1 Bournemouth 0

What a week for Luke Murphy, two brilliant goals that gave a valuable four points to Leeds and move us away from the relegation zone. The Cherries must be sick of seeing us as they have wone only one of our previous 13 meetings and have now won home and away against the league leaders. Perhaps we rode our luck with Bournemouth having a goal disallowed and them missing a penalty with 4 minutes remaining but it's no more than we deserved considering how well we played in the first half.

Leeds United ended their eight game winless run thanks to Luke Murphy magnificent left-footed strike on 36 minutes. Bournemouth were awarded a penalty late on but Yann Kermorgant hit the bar. Giuseppe Bellusci was sent off for fouling Callum Wilson in the lead up to penalty which on replays looked to have taken place outside the area… Read more

Leeds United 1 Birmingham City 1

Luke Murphy struck with five minutes remaining to gain a valuable but well deserved point as Leeds stay just above the relegation zone.Paul Caddis fifth minute penalty looked to have given the visitors a third consecutive away league win after Liam Cooper brought down Clayton Donaldson inside the penalty area. Midfielder Murphy rifled home after Birmingham had failed to clear Sam Byram's cross and gave Neil Redfearn a much need boost.

Nearing The Relegation Zone For The Whites

Bolton Wanderers 1 Leeds United 1

Eidur Gudjohnsen's first goal since returning to Bolton (14 years after he left them for Chelsea) gave Neil Lennon's side a hard earned point but leaves United perilously close to the relegation zone. Leeds made a dream start when Rodolph Austin slotted home a third-minute penalty after Sam Byram was fouled by keeper Andy Lonergan.

Just three minutes after the interval disaster struck Leeds when Luke Murphy fouled Darren Pratley in the area and Gudjohnson convert the spot kick with aplomb.Bolton dominated the possession stats but Leeds had more shots on target (5 to Wanderers 3) in a game that a draw was probably a fair result.

It Could Have Been Seven

Derby County 2 Leeds United 0

After this defeat Neil Redfearn will be looking over his shoulder and wonder how long more before the ax falls as his honeymoon period is long over and Cellinio's patience must be on the wain. It was an inept display from Leeds allied to atrocious defending which has been our achilles heal all season.

Derby dominated possession but it took until the 41st minute to break the deadlock as midfielder Will Hughes drove into the box before cutting the ball back into the path Alex Mowatt who steered it home for an own goal. And it could have been 3-0 at HT only for United's keeper Silvistri to save a Keogh header and an Ibe's shot. Two minutes after the break The Rams doubled their lead with defender Buxton powerfully heading home to end the match as a contest.

We are now 5th from the bottom just… Read more

Christmas And New Year's Greetings To All

All at Ennislusc wish each and every member and their families a Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year. We also think of those members who have lost loved ones during the year and we pray they are looking down on us from on high.

As for our beloved Leeds United one can only say the goings on at Elland Road are far beyond soap opera proportions and one can only hope the way is up in 2015. However something tells me there are a lot more twists on this road to redemption and The Premiership !

Gods Smile On Leeds

Nottingham Forest 1 Leeds United 1

Matty Fryatt was left cursing his luck as he scored one goal but was denied two more as Forest were held by a dogged Leeds at the City Grounds.
The striker put the home side ahead in injury time first half when he poked the ball in from close range. However he had two goals chalked off for offside with replays showing that the forward was onside on both occasions something which was not lost on Forest manager Stuart Pearce in his after match interview.

Leeds with only one win in five games equalised on 54 minutes when ex Forest forward Billy Sharp converted from the spot after Danny Fox had brought down Sam Byram. Forest will be disappointed not to have taken all three points but Leeds can have some consolation with the point and in particular the performance of 17 year old Lewis… Read more
