Happy 50th Birthday To The Legend Slim

Tomorrow night in the Ennis Golf Club our ex Ennislusc President and founder member Cyril Slim Corry will celebrate his 50th birthday. I know many of you will say he looks a lot younger but he's aging like a good wine. While Slim has packed away his playing booths having been an excellent centre half with Cloughleigh Celtic (he still never lets me forget about a penalty I gave against him down in Kilkishen but we still agree to differ :-))and now he has found a new niche with the golf clubs. Presently he sits in second place for golfer of the year award at Ennis and hopefully later on in the year we'll have reason to have another celebratory night for him when he picks up the award. He has extended a invite to all his friends to come and join him for a night of song, dance and… Read more

New Season Kicks Off Away To QPR

It seems like only last week that the season ended with Steven Evans in tears, now he's departed and Gary Monks ex Swansea City manager is in situ. Personally I think he's a great choice provided of course he's given free reign by Cellinio to bring in players and pick the team as he wishes.

Our first game of the season is away to QPR at Loftus Road on 7th August with KO at 12.00 noon. If you go to our guest book Mike Jones our excellent secretary has a list of all the games for the coming season. The stand out fixtures for a proposed trip to ER would be Newcastle United on 19th November or Aston Villa on 3rd December but we'll have to wait and see what Sky plan to show live before deciding on any fixture.

The adrenaline is flowing and expectations for the new season are… Read more

Season Ends In A Whimper

Preston North End 1 Leeds United 1

Two minutes into injury time Preston's Jordan Hugill scored to give ex Leeds manager Simon Grayson a share of the spoils with his counter part Steve Evans who's time at Leeds looks over. His contract expires at end of the month and judging by his reaction in the post match interview he's not too confident of being at Elland Road next season. Indeed he's now quoted at 6/4 to be the new Nottingham Forest manager so that tells it's own story.

Early on Chris Kirkland palmed away a Chris Woods header but that was the best it got in a poor first half. However things livened up in the last ten minutes when Kirkland brought down Luke Murphy and Chris Wood smashed home the resulting penalty on 78 minutes. But there was a sting in the tail for Leeds who would have hoped to sign… Read more

Already Relegated Charlton Sink Whites

Leeds United 1 Charlton Athletic 2

It was a very disappointing end of season game at Elland Road where the already relegated Addicks took all three points and four in toal from Leeds for the season. Johann Berg
Gudmundsson struck the post from 25 yards early on for Charlton before running onto Morgan Fox's pass on 39 minutes to open the scoring.

Charlton doubled their lead four minutes after half time when Ademola Lookman shot past Marco Silvestri. Chris Wood then struck the post with a header for the hoome side before Sol Bamba nodded home on 71 minutes to give the home fans some hope. However Nick Pope in the Charlton insured that all three points were on their way back to London with a super save from Antenucci in injury time.

Dallas To The Rescue

Hull City 2 Leeds United 2

Stuart Dallas's 88 minute equaliser scuppered Hull's hopes of automatic promotion but was was an excellent result for in form Leeds. Chris Wood tapped home Charlie Taylor's cross on 15 minutes but the game turned on three minutes of injury time.

Abel Hernandez scoring from close range one minute into injury time for Hull and ex Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone drilling in from the edge of the area in the third minutes of injury time to make the half time talk for Leeds a lot different to what he anticipated a few minutes earlier. On fifty four minutes Hull keeper Allan McGregor saved Chris Wood's poor penalty after Taylor was fouled.

Leeds stretched their unbeaten run to four games when Dallas latched on to a Jordan Botaka pass and beat McGregor with a low strike for a well deserved point for Steve Evan's boys. It's… Read more

Three In A Row !!!!!!!!

Leeds United 2 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1

If you told me a fortnight ago that Leeds would win three games in a row and unluckily lose to Championship leaders Burnley I would have said you were off your rocker. But low and behold Steve Evans boys have proved us doubters wrong and for a change deserve our praise.

Defender Sol Bamba opened the scoring with a nrilliant 25-yard volley yards after an hour and four minutes later Toumani Diagouraga doubled the lead from 15 yards. George Saville gave the visitors hope on seventy seven minutes with a low effort from the edge of the area but The Whites held on for a deserved win.

Dallas On The Double

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 2

Stuart Dallas earned Leeds United victory with a goal in each half to double his total for the season. He scored from the edge of the box on 11 minutes before doing the same from slightly further out with another low right-foot shot on 53 minutes.

Blues top scorer Clayton Donaldson pulled a goal back for City on 56 minutes but that was as good as it got for The Blues. The only sour note for Leeds was when Alex Mowatt saw red on 94 minutes for a needless and reckless challenge. Leeds are now up to 15th and any thought of relegation can now be banished.

Good Display Despite Result

Burnley 1 Leeds United 0

Despite conceding a goal after twenty eight seconds to Championship leaders Burnley at Turf Moor Leeds can be well pleased with their display.
The Clarets took the lead through Scott Arfield left foot strike to the bottom corner of the net. What a horrendous start for The Whites but to their credit they dominated the game from here to the end and will bemoan two gilt edge chances that failed to find the target.

Striker Chris Wood headed two glorious chances wide that normally he would bury but alas he was off form today. It was in the third half of the field that Leeds were let down and when we played two strikers up front with Antenucci coming on things improved immensely. But alas points are what it's all about and today we failed to capitalize on our possession.

Happy Household

Leeds United 1 Queens Park Rangers 1

Well I still got the cup of tea after the game despite me letting a roar out when Chris Wood's netted for Leeds with twenty minutes to go but you couldn't rely on us keeping a clean sheet and so it was. And Marian's beloved R's netted from the spot when once again Bellusci gave away a penalty and a share of the spoils was the outcome at Elland Road. So no bragging rights in the household for either of us !

Tjaronn Chery's penalty on 87 minutes helped Rangers rescue a point at Elland Road and left Leeds without a win in four games. Chris Wood netted his first goal since 29 December on 70 minutes latching on to Luke Murphy's through ball and slotting home from six yards. For the second game in succession Giuseppe Bellusci made a major blunder this time failing… Read more

Yet Another Disaster

Rotherham United 2 Leeds United 1

Greg Halford's late penalty gave Neil Warnock's Rotherham victory over his ex team in a game both teams ended with 10 men. The Millers took the lead on 27 minutes when Lee Frecklington converted Joe Mattock's cross from close range.

On 61 minutes Matt Derbyshire was sent off when he was adjudged to have deliberately elbowed Gaetano Berardi. It left him with a deep gash on the forehead which looked quite nasty. Leeds got a fortuitous equaliser on 79 minutes with.
Luke Murphy's deflected strike. It looked like Leeds would drive on from here for the three points and revenge the defeat t the same opposition at Elland Road earlier in the season but the exact opposite happened.

Leeds keeper Marco Silvestri saw red for bringing down Frecklington on 89 minutes and with all their substitutes used defender Giuseppe Bellusci went into goal. However he… Read more

Disgraceful Display

Huddersfield Town 4 Leeds United 1

Ennislusc club stalwart John Galvin was at Elland Road to see this debacle and all one could do is feel sorry for him to see such a disgraceful display. Beaten and humiliated at home in a Yorkshire Derby is as low as it gets for true White fans. Where to from here I ask you say and the answer has to be Cellino out and a complete clear out in the summer. Will it happen I doubt it very much unfortunately.

WingerStuart Dallas gave the home side the lead on twenty two minutes with a header from Liam Bridcutts cross and then the wheels came off the wagon. And this was after Nahki Wells had seen an 11th-minute penalty for The Terriers saved by keeper Marco Silvestri.Mark Hudson levelled from Jamie Paterson's corner on forty one minutes and Harry Bunn, Karim Matmour and Wells scored in… Read more

32 Years Of Agony Ends

Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds claimed a league double over Cardiff and also recorded their first victory at Cardiff City Stadium (formerly Ninian Park) since 1984. But it took a magnificent performance from Marco Silvestri in the United goal to end the hoodoo. He made at least five world class saves and for a much maligned keeper it was a night to remember for him in what was The Bluebirds first home defeat in 14 games.

It was Leeds who struck first, taking the lead against the run of play. Antenucci who scored twice in the win over Bolton ran clear on a rare counter attack, then squared the ball to Doukara, whose shot deflected off Fabio on its way to the net past a stranded David Marshall on 37 minutes. Leeds could have doubled their lead early in the second half but Antenucci had a shot blocked on the… Read more

Time To Go Massimo

Leeds United 2 Bolton Wanderers 1

Outsise Elland Road before the game a Leeds fans group named "Time To Go Massimo" held a mock funeral complete with a coffin to mark "the death of the club" as a protest towards Cellino. This of course had little if any effect on Massimo but at least the players responded and got the three points for our first league victory since January.

Mirco Antenucci put Leeds in front on 39 minutes when he latched on to Mustapha Carayols corner and shot past keeper Paul Rachubka. Then on 62 minutes Mirco got his second when he curled into the far corner after his initial cross was blocked. Kaiyne Woolery gave Bolton hope on 74 minutes when hit the net from a Dean Moxey's cross but The Whites held on for a much needed win.

Beyond Belief

Brighton & Hove Albion 4 Leeds United 0

Four goals down after thirty eight minutes, the Chairman leaves at half time (who could blame him )and manager Steve Evans was not allowed to speak to the media after the game. Just another disastrous day in the life of LUFC. Assistant Manager Paul Raynor who met the media after the game summing it up as follows: "The first-half performance was shambolic. Our defending was atrocious and the manager is going to dissect it with the players. For the 1,522 Leeds supporters at the game, many who had a round trip of 520 miles it was soul destroying but true to form they sang their hearts out for the ninety minutes.

There is no need to dissect the game as it was probably the worst forty five minutes ever by a Leeds team and it beggars belief where we go from here. Sacking… Read more

Stung By Wootton's OG

FA CUP Fifth Round
Watford 1 Leeds United 0

After dominating the first forty five minutes despite not having a shot on goal Leeds looked comfortable against their Premiership opposition and everything augured well for the second half. However that all changed on fifty three minutes when ex Man United youngster Scott Wootton knocked an innocuous cross from The Hornets Man Of The Match Ben Watson inexplicably into his own net when under no pressure. Yes he was plaything out of position at right back but their ended Leeds dream of making the last eight for the first time since 2003.

The heads dropped for a while after this set back and indeed Leeds had only one shot on goal in the next forty minutes. Leeds have now only kept one clean sheet in their last 14 FA Cup games and failed to score in four of their last six FA… Read more

Encouraging And Gutsy Display From Leeds

Leeds United 0 Middlesbrough 0

Before kick-off Leeds fans projected images on to one of the stands urging chairman Massimo Cellino to quit. One read Billy wouldn't accept this, why should we-Sell the club. This was in reference to Massimo Cellino 75 per cent stake in the club that he told the the Leeds Fans United supporters group he would sell to them in October but reneged a week later.

It was a game of few chances with Leeds best effort coming from a Souleymane Doukara header that was superbly saved by Boro keeper Konstantopoulos. Indeed Steve Evans called it the save of the season in his after match interview and Peter Begrie the Sky Sports commentator agree with his verdict. Jordan Rhodes, Boro's nine million pound signing from Blackburn missed a gold chance when clean through but shot straight at Silvestri.

On of the highlights on the night was the performance of… Read more

Chopped Down

Leeds United 0 Nottingham Forest 1

Despite having sixty two percent possession it counted for nothing in the end as Forest walked away with the deserved three points. Ennislusc members Kevin Greene and John Galvin travelled over to the game and must have left Elland Road disappointed with the fare on offer.

Nelson Oliveiras eight goal of the season on sixty minutes ended Leeds six game unbeaten run although Souleymane Doukara came close to giving the home side an early lead when he headed Stuart Dallas's cross wide. Forest midfielder Gary Gardner hit the crossbar midway through the second half and in truth it was another inept performance from Steve Evans men.

Certainly there will be a big clear out in the summer and this was hinted at by Evans in his after match comments to LUFC TV.

Late Sting In The Tail For The Bees

Brentford 1 Leeds United 1

Substitute Mustapha Carayol came to Leeds rescue with an 84 minute goal to earned a good point after an much improved second-half display against a gallant Brentford side. With aircraft landing every minute at nearby Heathrow Airport one wonders how one play football with constant noise in the skies over head Griffin Park.

It was a brilliant individual goal from midfielder Sam Saunders on twenty seven minutes that gave The Bees a well deserved interval lead. He ran direct from midfield and with defenders falling back he hit a scorching daisy cutter from twenty yards that gave Silvestri no chance. However Carayol's 18-yard effort got Leeds out of jail and a point they hardly deserved.

Souleymane Shoots Down The Robins

Leeds United 1 Bristol City 0

A drab dour game with few incidents of note went the home sides way thanks to
Souleymane Doukara goal on fifty nine minutes. Leeds stretched their unbeaten home run to six matches with this victory over struggling Bristol City. The French striker struck his third goal in four games when Stuart Dallas's cross hit off fellow striker Chris Woods and fell perfectly for Doukara to fire home.
