Returning McClaren Inspires The Rams

Derby County 1 Leeds United 0

Ex England manager Steve McClaren returned to Pride Park for a second coming and got the perfect result for the home fans. Leeds had the better of the possession stats and more shots on goal, hitting the woodwork twice but it was the home side that hit the winner on 56 minutes
Scotland international Johnny Russell came off the bench to score the games only goal despite Rob Green getting a touch to his ferocious shot.

Kyle Bartley headed against the bar for Leeds before the break and Antonsson hit the post in second-half injury time as Garry Monk's side suffered a second successive away defeat. Ex Leeds United star Bradley Johnson had an excellent game for the home side driving them forward time and again from midfield.

Moving On Up The Table

Leeds United 2 Barnsley 1

Leeds won for the fifth time in six games in front of a good home crowd of 27,350 against Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. Kyle Bartley scored on 36 minutes following a corner and he's quickly making himself a fan favourite with his sterling performances. Then on 54 minutes Pablo Hernandez, who's been a revelation in midfield scored from close range to double the lead.

The Tykes pulled one back on 70 minutes whe Charlie Taylor turned Cole Kpekawa's cross into his own net to insure a long twenty minutes for the home side. Leeds are now up to 11th and four points outside the play off places despite having a terrible start to the season. Much to look forward to as Gary Monk gets to put his stamp on the team.

Unhappy Night At Ashton Gate

Bristol City 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds United were condemned to their first defeat in five matches when Marlon Pack scored on 59 minutes following a one two with Lee Tomlin after Hernandes lost the ball in midfield. Leeds had boss Garry Monk sent to the stands late on and had not lost away from home since the opening day of the season.

It was a frustrating evening for The Whites who on chances deserved a point but in the end gave away a silly goal. As Gary Monk says this is a new group who are still learning and it will take time to blend and play to his systems.

Four In A Row For Chris Woods And Leeds

Leeds United 1 Ipswich Town 0

Chris Wood gave a Man Of The Match performance as Leeds extended their run to four games in a row for the first time since season 2009/2010. His seventh goal of the season on 35 minutes from a Charlie Taylor cross was enough to give Leeds all three points and he was also scoring for the fourth successive game. The New Zealand international almost scored again before half-time but was denied by brilliant tackle by Scottish International Christophe Berra.

Mich McCarthy's Ipswich managed just a single shot on target in the entire game and this from a team that has been a bogey side For Leeds in the last few years. Gary Monk seems to have the team playing with confidence and the back four have started to bond and close up shop. Moving on up the table and two points off the play offs… Read more

Whites March On

Cardiff City 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds claimed back to back wins in a week with a great win away to The Bluebirds to ease the pressure on manager Garry Monk. Cardiff hit the post twice in the first half but Leeds struck for the all important goal on on 62 minutes with Chris Wood scoring from the penalty spot following a foul on Pontus Jansson.Ex-Swansea winger Pablo Hernandez sealed victory late on with an excellent strike. Two wins in a week , are we dreaming or are things finally falling into place. Only time will tell but lets keep marching on.

Finally A Home League Win For Monk

Leeds United 2 Blackburn Rovers 1

Kyle Bartley scored his first goal on 86 minutes for Leeds to hand them their first home win since the middle of April. The on-loan Swansea defender headed home a free-kick much to the relief of the home crowd which was 9,000 on Saturday's home game. Substitute Chris Wood had put Leeds ahead on 65 minutes with his fourth goal of the season when he tapped home Hadi Sacko's right-wing cross from close range.

However Blackburn substitute Marvin Emnes equalised on 77 minutes from the edge of the area which insured a nervy end of the home fans.Special mention to much maligned home keeper Rob Green who brought off two world class during the game to deny Rovers a share of the spoils. Finally a home win to savor with Cardiff City up next in our live Sky Sports game on Saturday.

The Terriers Have Too Much Bite For Leeds

Leeds United 0 Huddersfield Town 1

On loan Manchester City midfielder Aaron Mooy's fantastic 25 yard strike on 55 minutes earned unbeaten Championship leaders Huddersfield Town a well deserved win over Yorkshire rivals Leeds at Eland Road. The Terriers dominated possession throughout the game but Gary Monk was extremely angry in his after match comments that Moooy's was still on the field of play when he scored what proved to be the winner.

Mooys was booked late in the first half for a two footed tackle on Liam Bridcutt that in Monk's opinion was a certain red card which TV replays proved he had a valid case. However in truth this was clutching at straws as Leeds lacked penetration up front and looked very suspect at the back.

Leeds now slip to third from bottom with just one win from their first six league fixtures and Gary Monk needs a victory on Tuesday… Read more

Dismal Run At City Ground Continues

Nottingham Forest 3 Leeds United 1

Goals from Pajtim Kasami and Damien Perquis insured Forest maintained their 100% home record and once again proved a bogey team for Leeds. As manager Gary Monk said in his after match speech we gave away two soft goals with yet again dreadful defending. This has been our achilles heel for the last number of years and despite all the managerial changes we cannot seem to address this issue. Bring back George Graham I say, the football wasn't pretty but a one nil win is better than a drubbing any day.

Kasami put Forest ahead on 16 minutes from a corner and Perquis made it 2-0 with a lovely header on 71 minutes and it looked like lights out for Leeds. They were given a glimmer of hope on 83 minutes with a superb Kalvin Phillips free-kick but Oliver Burke wrapped up victory in stoppage time… Read more

Monk Gets Off The Mark

Sheffield Wednesday 0 Leeds United 2

Garry Monk secured his first win as Leeds United boss and not a moment too soon as the treat of the sack was in the air if one is to believe the newspapers. Swedish striker Marcus Antonsson got the opener on 63 minutes when he headed in Hadi Sacko's cross at the back post. The Owels had the better chances before the break with Forestieri going close on two occasions while Almen Abdi hit the crossbar with a free kick..

Leeds grab a second on 85 minutes as Chris Wood guided Kemar Roofe's low cross in from close range. While we'll take the win, the stats say that Wednesday had 65 per cent possession and I certainly would not be getting carried away with this welcome result.

Woody To The Rescue

Leeds United 1 Fulham 1

Chris Woods 93rd minute injury-time overhead kick secured Leeds United their first point of the season. The Cottagers were the dominant team and a win would have seen them go to the top of The Championship so they will be very disappointed leaving Elland Road.

Tom Cairney put Fulham ahead on thirteen minutes with an excellent effort that gave Rob Green no chance. Ex-Leeds striker Matt Smith and forward Sone Aluko both hit the post for Fulham before Woods came to the rescue. Despite this stunning goal it must be said that Leeds were well outplayed and there is a lot of work to be done plus new signings to be sought.

The Whites Get The Blues

Leeds United 1 Birmingham City

For the second successive year Birmingham beat Leeds at Elland Road leaving Garry Monk's side pointless after the two opening games of the season. Three shots on target over 180 minutes while conceding five at the rear tells it's own story of where we need to strengthen and quickly.

The Blues took the lead against the run of play on 15 minutes when Jacques Maghoma tapped home after calamitous keeper Rob Green and defender Charlie Taylor collided in going for the ball.
United got back on level terms on 27 minutes following another goalkeeping error when Tomasz Kuszczak dived over Hadi Sacko shot.

Blues captain Michael Morrison hit the winner on 56 minutes after Leeds had failed to deal with Jonathan Grounds cross. Certainly the back four and goalkeeper looked like the only met up before the game such is the lack of understanding there. Unless something… Read more

Bottom Of The Championship After Opening Fixture

Queens Park Rangers 3 Leeds United

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink QPR side opened their Championship campaign with a comfortable win against a dismal Leeds. This has to go down as one of the most inept performances from a Leeds side and manager Gary Monk can put any spin on it he likes but this was an atrocious performance. Indeed QPR striker Polter who was a thorn in the Leeds side all day twice hit the upright in the opening 45 minutes as The R's were in complete control.

Rangers led on three minutes when ex QPR keeper Robert Green flapped at a corner and Nedum Onuoha bundled in from a yard out. This was comical defending and Green must shoulder much of the blame on a day when he was all at sea.
Tjaronn Chery's penalty on seventy three minutes made it 2-0 after Ronaldo Vieira fouled Jordan Cousins. Leeds did have a chance… Read more

New Season, New Manager, New Faces, New Dreams

Tomorrow at Loftus Road Leeds kick off the new season at 12 noon away to QPR. Now with a new manager in Gary Monks along with seven new signings the dream of getting back to the Premiership begins once again. Yes we still have the eccentric Massimo Cellino as owner and lost rising star Lewis Cooke to Bournemouth but there is an air of confidence that this year we have an outstanding chance of making at least the play offs.

Of course there have been many false dawns since we were relegated in the 2003/2004 season after 14 years in The Premiership and each year brings with it many twists and turns as any true White will tell you. However now we have an excellent young manager who did an outstanding job with Swansea in his first season and the new signing of Marcus Antonsson (Kalmar FF), Kyle Bartley(Swansea Cit-Loan)
Robert Green (QPR)… Read more

Happy 50th Birthday To The Legend Slim

Tomorrow night in the Ennis Golf Club our ex Ennislusc President and founder member Cyril Slim Corry will celebrate his 50th birthday. I know many of you will say he looks a lot younger but he's aging like a good wine. While Slim has packed away his playing booths having been an excellent centre half with Cloughleigh Celtic (he still never lets me forget about a penalty I gave against him down in Kilkishen but we still agree to differ :-))and now he has found a new niche with the golf clubs. Presently he sits in second place for golfer of the year award at Ennis and hopefully later on in the year we'll have reason to have another celebratory night for him when he picks up the award. He has extended a invite to all his friends to come and join him for a night of song, dance and… Read more

New Season Kicks Off Away To QPR

It seems like only last week that the season ended with Steven Evans in tears, now he's departed and Gary Monks ex Swansea City manager is in situ. Personally I think he's a great choice provided of course he's given free reign by Cellinio to bring in players and pick the team as he wishes.

Our first game of the season is away to QPR at Loftus Road on 7th August with KO at 12.00 noon. If you go to our guest book Mike Jones our excellent secretary has a list of all the games for the coming season. The stand out fixtures for a proposed trip to ER would be Newcastle United on 19th November or Aston Villa on 3rd December but we'll have to wait and see what Sky plan to show live before deciding on any fixture.

The adrenaline is flowing and expectations for the new season are… Read more

Season Ends In A Whimper

Preston North End 1 Leeds United 1

Two minutes into injury time Preston's Jordan Hugill scored to give ex Leeds manager Simon Grayson a share of the spoils with his counter part Steve Evans who's time at Leeds looks over. His contract expires at end of the month and judging by his reaction in the post match interview he's not too confident of being at Elland Road next season. Indeed he's now quoted at 6/4 to be the new Nottingham Forest manager so that tells it's own story.

Early on Chris Kirkland palmed away a Chris Woods header but that was the best it got in a poor first half. However things livened up in the last ten minutes when Kirkland brought down Luke Murphy and Chris Wood smashed home the resulting penalty on 78 minutes. But there was a sting in the tail for Leeds who would have hoped to sign… Read more

Already Relegated Charlton Sink Whites

Leeds United 1 Charlton Athletic 2

It was a very disappointing end of season game at Elland Road where the already relegated Addicks took all three points and four in toal from Leeds for the season. Johann Berg
Gudmundsson struck the post from 25 yards early on for Charlton before running onto Morgan Fox's pass on 39 minutes to open the scoring.

Charlton doubled their lead four minutes after half time when Ademola Lookman shot past Marco Silvestri. Chris Wood then struck the post with a header for the hoome side before Sol Bamba nodded home on 71 minutes to give the home fans some hope. However Nick Pope in the Charlton insured that all three points were on their way back to London with a super save from Antenucci in injury time.

Dallas To The Rescue

Hull City 2 Leeds United 2

Stuart Dallas's 88 minute equaliser scuppered Hull's hopes of automatic promotion but was was an excellent result for in form Leeds. Chris Wood tapped home Charlie Taylor's cross on 15 minutes but the game turned on three minutes of injury time.

Abel Hernandez scoring from close range one minute into injury time for Hull and ex Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone drilling in from the edge of the area in the third minutes of injury time to make the half time talk for Leeds a lot different to what he anticipated a few minutes earlier. On fifty four minutes Hull keeper Allan McGregor saved Chris Wood's poor penalty after Taylor was fouled.

Leeds stretched their unbeaten run to four games when Dallas latched on to a Jordan Botaka pass and beat McGregor with a low strike for a well deserved point for Steve Evan's boys. It's… Read more
