Woods Gives Birmingham The Blues

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 3

Chris Wood scored twice at former club Birmingham City to bring his tally to 24 goals this season ( 22 in league) as Leeds kept up their impressive run for a play off place. Despite playing second fiddle to an impressive home side it was Woods who opened the scoring on 14th minutes when he chipped The Blues keeper with his first touch following a through ball by right back Luke Ayling.

On 63 minutes Craig Gardner levelled with a super left foot shot from 25-yard but four minutes later Leeds were back in front when Woods scored his second following a Phillips cross. This knocked the stuffing out of Gianfranco Zola side and on 81 minutes Alfonso Pedraza secured the three points for Leeds with his first goal for the club. It was an excellent left foot strike to the keeper right hand corner and… Read more

Superb Green The Hero For Leeds

Leeds United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Ennislusc stalwart Marty Brennan and his lovely wife Melissa were at Elland Road to see this enthralling Yorkshire Derby and they certainly weren't disappointed with the high octane game they witnessed. It had a 35,000 plus crowd, a missed penalty for The Owels and most importantly a superb three points for Garry Monk's team courtesy of Chris Wood's 23rd goal of the season.

The all important goal came on 24 minutes when
Wood poked in from inside the six yard area following a left wing cross from Berardi. Wednesday appealed for offisde but TV replayed showed that their right back Hunt had played him onside. Owls striker Jordan Rhodes had a chance to equalise on 51 minutes after Souleymane Doukara fouled Sam Hutchinson but Robert Green dived brilliantly to his left and pushed his spot-kick onto the post. He may have come in for… Read more

Sluggish Leeds Dig Out A Point

Ipswich Town 1 Leeds United 1

On one of the poorest surfaces in the Championship a sluggish Leeds dug out a hard earned point against a very determined Ipswich side at Portman Road. Mick McCarthy's boys took the lead as early as the 9th minute when Freddie Sears volleyed in Grant Ward's right-sided cross. Ipswich were the better side in the opening half but on 42 minutes Stuart Dallas poked home an equaliser. It was harsh on The Tractor Boys but perfectly timed to give Gary Monk's men a lift going in at half time.

Mid way through the second half Ipswiches's David McGoldrick hit the bar and was also denied by Rob Green as Leeds held on for a hard-fought point. It's getting tight in the top six now with the chasing pack closing fast in particular Norwich and Fulham. Leeds have now 13 league games to play and each must… Read more

Back On Track After Downing The Robins

Leeds United 2 Bristol City 1

Chris Wood scored his 22nd goal of the season to help ease Leeds worries of a top six finish after two successive league defeats. Despite it being Valentine's Day a fine crowd turned up at Elland Road and Leeds went ahead on 27 minutes when Wood turned in Pablo Hernandez's quick free-kick. The visiting Bristol City manager Lee Johnson was fuming as he felt defender Bailey Wright had been fouled in the build-up. TV replays seem to bear this out but happily for Leeds fans the goal stood.

Two minutes after half time Hernandez doubled Leeds advantage when his deflected shot beat Robin's keeper Fabian Giefer. In the sixth minute of injury time Bristol pulled a goal back through Milan Djuric but it was a well earned three points for the home side. Leeds margin of victory may have been even greater if Chris Wood… Read more

The Blubirds Flying High At Elland Road

Leeds United 0 Cardiff City 2

Despite dominating the possession stats and having more shots on goal Leeds succumbed to a disappointing home defeat to a Cardiff side managed by ex Leeds manager Neil Warnock. Sean Morrison headed home from a Kenneth Noone cross on 53 minutes after the Leeds defence were caught napping with a quick free. Things got worse on 71 minutes when Zohore fired in a second following Aron Gunnarsson's break.

Despite having 17 shots on goal Leeds had only 3 on target which speaks for itself. Leeds failed to trouble Scottish keeper Allan McGregor and had Liam Bridcutt sent off for two bookings. It was a wake up call and with other teams in the top six winning Leeds can't afford too many slip ups..

Cruel End Denies Leeds A Point

Huddersfield Town 2 Leeds United 1

In a high intensity match which boiled over at the end it was The Terriers who came away with the bragging rights and leap frogged Leeds up to 4th in the Championship table. Centre half Michael Hefele scored a dramatic 89 minute winner as he prodded home after Aaron Mooy's shot deflected into his path off a Leeds defender. Following the goal Huddersfield manager David Wagner sprinted down the pitch to join his team's celebrations and on his way back to the technical area he bumped into Gary Monk. Both teams were then involved in a confrontation that culminated in both managers being sent off and three players being booked.
In fairness Gary Monk was the totally innocent party and held his council despite this totally unprofessional conduct of Wagner.

Sub Izzy Brown had put the Terriers in front on 27 minutes following a Tommy Smith cross… Read more

Not Pretty But Three Points Is All That Matters

Blackburn Rovers 1 Leeds United 2

After the shock exit to non league Sutton United at the weekend Leeds got back on track moved to within a point of third-placed Reading after a hard fought win at Ewood Park. Chris Wood had the best chance of the first half but shot wide while Kemar Roofe headed over from a good position.

With seventeen minutes remaining Stuart Dallas broke the deadlock with a cool strike following a superb pass from Liam Bridcutt. This seemed to spur on United but they were caught out on 83 minutes when Elliott Bennett's shot from 20 yards bobbled over the out stretched arms of Rob Green in the Leeds goal. It looked to have stolen a point for Rovers but on loan Pontus Jansson won it when he headed in Pablo Hernandez's corner on 89 minutes. As Gary Monk said it wasn't a game fr the purist… Read more

Three Goals In Nine Minutes Stuns Leeds

Barnsley 3 Leeds United 2

Barnsley scored three goals in nine minutes to come from behind and beat Leeds United at Oakwell in a game that Gary Monk will want to forget. They never reached the standards of the Derby game and despite taking the lead the fell asleep on the stroke of half time when Tom Bradshaw headed home. With the defence expecting a cross from the free kick, Barnsley played it down into the corner and then crossed in with the Leeds back four at sixes and sevens.

Chris Wood tapped in his 18th goal of the season on 18 minutes and since his arrival at Elland Road Leeds have never lost when he scores first but that bubble was burst this evening.

On 48 minutes winger Ryan Kent turned Coyle and hit a cracking left foot effort into the bottom right hand corner of a diving Rob Green.… Read more

Best Display From A Leeds Team In Years

Leeds United 1 Derby County 0

Chris Wood's brilliant header on the stroke of half time was enough to send Leeds United third in the Championship with an impressive victory over fellow promotion hopefuls Derby County. The margin of victory should well have been even greater but for their inability to turn some gilt edge chances into goals. Liam Bridcutt, Souleymane Doukara and Bartley all missing decent opportunities in the opening half but on the plus side it was the quality of the football Leeds played that was most pleasing to all the supporters at Elland Road on the night and those watching around the world on Sky Sports live. This was as good a performance as we've seen from any Leeds team since we were relegated in 2002 and it has all us supporters on a high.

Excellent 2nd Half Display Seals The Points

Leeds United 3 Rotherham United 0

Leeds United made it six wins from eight games by beating The Millers in the Yorkshire derby at Elland Road. Chris Wood was recalled to the starting line-up by boss Garry Monk following the 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and Kyle Bartley returned after a knee injury to replace Liam Cooper. It was a dire first half for Leeds as they failed to muster a shot on target in a first half while Tom Adeyemi hit a post for the visitors.

However on 47 minutes things changed drastically for Leeds when Kyle Bartley put the home side ahead heading in Pablo Hernandez's corner. Then Chris Woods showed how much he was missed when injured netting twice in 14 minutes to secure another valuable three points. He rifled home on 66 minutes to double the lead before sidefooting his 16th of the season on 79 minutes… Read more

Cooper's Hand Ball Denies Leeds The Win

Aston Villa 1 Leeds United 1

Jonathan Kodjia 86 minute penalty following a hand ball by Leeds centre half preserved Aston Villa home record against in-form Leeds. This will be seen as two points dropped by Leeds manager Gary Monk but when he sits down an analysis the game he will be mightily pleased with his sides performance.

On loan Torina star Pontus Jansson headed Leeds in front on 54 minutes from a Dallas corner and six minutes later hit the crossbar with a volley following another corner. It was all Leeds at this stage until Liam Cooper handled and Kodjia sent Rob Green the wrong way from the spot. There was still time for Leeds winger Hadi Sacko to hit the bar and then Rob Green denied Kodjia a winner with a superb body block.

Leeds are in 5th place in The Championship and playing like a team that has a… Read more

Leeds United visit Villa Park tonight in a fixture that is live on Sky Sports 1 and as always Ennislusc fans will be meeting in Moroney's for the game. After a styttering start to the season and a change of manager Villa are steadily climbing up the table so this will be an extremely tough fixture for Gary Monk's men.

Leeds On Fire At Deepdale

Preston North End 1 Leeds United 4

Leeds United put in an excellent performance to record a third successive Championship win by beating a Preston side who had Jermaine Beckford sent off against his ex-club. Beckford was sent off in the 69th minute after he reacted badly to a strong challenge from Kyle Bartley. This was his first game back after serving a suspension for fighting with his team mate Eoin Doyle so he's set for another period in the stands after this petulant reaction.

However that doesn't take away from a superb Leeds performance at Deepdale. Kemar Roofe who is now beginning to show the form we expect of this summer signing opened the scoring on 17 minutes turning in Pontus Jansson's goal-bound header. Things got better for Leeds on 23 minutes when Hadi Sacko scored coming in from the wing and shooting home from twelve yards. Gary Monk couldn't… Read more

Kyle To The Rescue

Leeds United 1 Brentford 0

Kyle Bartley's 89 minute headed goal from a Stuart Dallas corner gave Leeds a precious three points as the continue to keep a place in the top six. The Bees striker Scott Hogan rightly had a goal ruled out for offside and despite not playing well Gary Monk will be thrilled with the result but conscious that he needs cover for injured striker Chris Woods if Leeds are to challenge for a play off place.

Luke Ayling shot over the bar from a Stuart Dallas corner before Souleymane Doukara also shot wide from a good position. The game looked all over a draw until centre half Bartley headed powerfully to the net to lift the gloom from Elland Road and send the fans home happy.

Excellent Win But Woody Injured

Leeds United 2 Reading 0

Leeds moved back into the Championship play-off places with a goal in each half at Elland Road but goal score Chris Woods had to be substituted on 33 minutes with a hamstring injury. In his after match interview Gary Monk said that it was a tightness in his hamstring but hopefully when it's assessed it won't be too bad as Woods is an integral part of the side and top scorer.

Woody scored his 11th league goal of the season ( his 14th in all competitions ) on 19 minutes following a Hadi Sacko cross. Reading who were 3rd in the table before kick off had the majority of possession but rarely threatened Rob Greens goal. Leeds wrapped up the points in the 91 st minute when Souleymane Doukara made no mistake from the spot after Chris Gunter was adjudged to have pushed Charlie Taylor… Read more

Leeds Pay The Penalty

Brighton & Hove Albion 2 Leeds United 0

Leeds were on TV for the third time in eight days but reserved one of their poorest performance of the season against the high flying Seagulls who went to the top of the table as a result of this comprehensive victory.

Ex Crystal Palace striker Glenn Murray put the Seagulls in front from the penalty spot on 23 minutes after Kalvin Phillips was sent off for handling on the line. Rob Green must once again hold up his hand as his attempt to punch the corner was nothing short of shocking. It was a straight forward call for the referee and this effectively finished the game off despite over three quarters of the game to go.

Brighton dominated proceedings but only wrapped up victory on 82 minutes when Kyle Bartley was adjudged to have pulled back Lewis Dunk and with Tomer Hemed sent Rob… Read more

Kemar Finally Off The Mark

Leeds United 2 Aston Villa 0

The hardy band of Ennislusc members who travelled to Elland Road on Saturday certainly saw an excellent performance which now sees The Whites up to 4th in the Championship table.
Kemar Roofe scored his first goal for Leeds ending a 22 game goalless streak since his €3M move from Oxford and this certainly put a smile on manager Gary Monk's face. He has never lost faith with the striker and hopefully this goal will kick start his season. The defeat condemned Aston Villa to their first loss in eight games under Steve Bruce.

On 68 minutes Roofe headed in Souleymane Doukara excellent cross from the left wing and it was no more than he deserved after being Leeds liveliest forward up to then.Albert Adomah and Ashley Westwood missing good chances for Villa before Chris Wood slid in from close range in the fourth minute of… Read more

Back At Anfield and Live On Sky Sports Tonight

Tonight Leeds head to Anfield for the quarter final of the EFL Cup ( League Cup of old) with no pressure on them as they are rank outsiders against a very much in form Liverpool. Indeed The Pool are the top scorers in the competition to date so a busy evening can be expected for the Leeds defence. Some 24 of Liverpools past 28 games against Leeds have taken place in the Premier League where the Reds 14 wins is the most inflicted on the Yorkshire side in competition history. This just gives some idea of the task that Gary Monk's men face this evening.

The game is on live on Sky Sports 1 with KO at 7.45.

Wastefulness Could Have Proved Costly

Rotherham United 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds United moved up to fifth in the Championship with a deserved but narrow win over bottom side Rotherham. Despite dominating the possession stats to the tune of 74 percent they rode their luck at the death when The Millers nearly nicked an equaliser which would have left manager Gary Monk furious.

Leeds went ahead on fourteen minutes when striker Chris Wood side foted Charlie Taylor's cross home. Things took a dramatic turn on 29 minutes when Peter Odemwingie was sent off for violent conduct having elbowed Liam Cooper. It was an easy decision for the referee and Leeds increased their lead on in the seventh minute of injury time ( due to injury to Cooper)when Souleymane Doukara scored from ten yards.

Leeds dominated the second half as one would expect but were nearly left to rue their wastefulness after Richard Wood pulled a goal back… Read more
