Lot Of Optimism Shattered With This Showing

Leeds United 0 Preston North End 0

Leeds were frustrated by ten man Preston after Ben Pearson was dismissed for his second yellow card on 60 minutes. With a massive home crowd of 32,880 in attendance for the first home game of the season it was a terribly disappointing result and one that could have been a lot worse as Preston hit the woodwork on 90 minutes with keeper Felix Wiedwald getting a touch to Harrop's shoot and tipping it n to the crossbar.

Leeds striker Chris Wood had a number of chances including a one on one with Preston keeper Maxwell that he failed to convert. It was the first time Leeds had failed to score since 17 April, having scored seven goals in their opening two games this season. Fulham are next up for United at Elland Road on Tuesday night and a better performance will be demanded and… Read more

Super Start But Back Line Needs Strengthening

Bolton Wanderers 2 Leeds United 3

New Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen got off to a fantastic start but had to endure a shaky last twenty minutes before securing the three points. Academy product Kalvin Phillips gave The Whites the dream start scoring on seven minutes from a training ground corner routine. Hernandez took the corner to the edge of the area and Kalvin curled a beauty into the top corner.

Things got better for Leeds on thirty minutes when last season's top scorer Chris Wood headed home from a header back into the box from new signing Alioski. This was dream land for the 5,000 traveling Leeds fans but Bolton pulled one back on 39 minutes through a Gary Madine header. New keeper Wiedwald failed to come from the cross and while he's good with the ball on the deck he's like all foreign keepers when it comes to crosses.… Read more

Great Expectations For New Season

On Sunday evening at 16.30 Leeds will kick off their Championship season live on Sky Sports away to Bolton Wanderers and after a frantic summer in the transfer window where six new players were sign ( Alioski, Saiz, Anita, Ekuban, Klich, Wiedwald ) along with on loan Ronaldo Vieira and Pontus Jansson given full contracts. In fairness to new owner Andrea Radrizzani he has been a breath of fresh air and has fulfilled all his promises to date including buying back Elland Road from the local Council.

He took a big gamble in appointing Thomas Christiansen as manager from Cypriot club Apoel but to date one has to be extremely happy with his outgoing personality and his signings. The owner expects a top six finish while the fans expectations are of automatic promotion. It's been a long time since there has been such positivity around Leeds United and isn't it… Read more

The Dream Is Over For This Year

Leeds United 3 Norwich City 3

Well the dream of the play offs was all but over after 45 minutes with Leeds 0-3 down and although Chris Woods grabbed a goal back in first half injury time, a miracle was needed if they were to turn the game around. Their brave effort just came up short and with Fulham only drawing at home to Bradford, Leeds needed a win to bring the dream of a play off place to the last game of the season. A shell shocking first half did all the damage to Gary Monk's dreams of a shot at returning to the The Premiership but hopefully and more importantly the club will reward him with a long term contract for his tremendous efforts this season.

After losing our opening fixture 3-0 to QPR little did we think that we would be challenging for a top six position so… Read more

Play Off Dream Out Of Our Hands

Burton 2 Leeds United 1

In a game that had huge repercussions to both clubs depending on the result it was Burton Albion who won the laurels and secured Championship football for a second season. Unfortunately for Leeds with both Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday winning it now means Leeds are three points off the play offs with two games remaining. While Gary Monk said it was very hard on his team considering they dominated possession and were undone by a goal against the run of play, the truth is Leeds were toothless up front.

On 75 minutes Marvin Sordell scored for The Brewers and it was like the wind was taken out of the Leeds players. Then two minutes later the day just became a disaster as Michael Kightly scored a second.Leeds hit back within three minutes through Kyle Bartley following a flick on from Chris Woods but despite constant… Read more

Out Of Play Off Places

Leeds United 0 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1

Leeds United dropped out of the Championship play-off places as Wolves clinched a unexpected win at Elland Road. Gary Monk said it was the first 45 minutes were the worst of the season for his team and they paid the price for a lethargic performance on 38 minutes.

Nouha Dicko ran onto Ben Marshall's through-ball and beat Rob Green from 12 yards to give The Wanderers a deserved lead. Leeds did have a chance in the second half but Pontus Jansson could not hit the target with a free header. Lonergan then saved from Souleymane Doukara and Kortney Hause cleared off the line. With Fulham winning away to Villa it means Leeds have dropped out of the top six with three games remaining.

Late Late Show From Woods Earn Super Point

Newcastle United 1 Leeds United 1

Chris Wood scored a 95th minute equaliser to earn a valuable point for Leeds in their quest for a play off place. Leeds were completely outplayed by the The Magpies at a sold-out St James's Park where the stats said Newcastle had 19 corners to none for Leeds tells it's own story. However but for the magnificence of Rob Green Newcastle would have been out of sight and it says a lot about this Leeds side that they hung in there right to the end

Jamaal Lascelles put Newcastle ahead on 67 minutes as his header crept over the line despite a valiant effort from Rob Green who clawed it back but it was over the line. However despite living on scraps it was Chris Woods with his 25th Championship goal of the season that saved the day for Leeds.

The Push For The Play Offs Is Back On Track

Leeds United 3 Preston North End 0

Leeds finally ended their poor run of form with an excellent win over The Lilywhites and in the process thanks to other results are still favourites to make the play offs. Winger Kemar Roofe gave Leeds the tonic start on 18 minutes to chip Preston keeper Chris Maxwell. Top scorer Chris Woods had a goal rightly chalked off for an offside infringement before Pablo Hernandez made it 2-0 on the stroke of half time.

Midway through the second half Preston hit the woodwork before Alex Baptiste saw red on 86 minutes for a kick on Hernandez off the ball.
Leeds substitute Souleymane Doukara completed the scoring on 93 minutes to give Leeds a moral boasting win with Newcastle United to come on Good Friday.

Leeds Stung By The Bees

Brentford 2 Leeds United

Only for the heroics of Rob Green the game would have been all over at half time in what was surely the worst display from Leeds all season. It did not make good viewing on live TV as United were never at the races.Romaine Sawyers fired the Bees ahead on 18 minutes tapping in after Robert Green had parried a Sergi Canos effort.

Things got worse for Leeds on 34 minutes as Canos shot was saved and fell kindly for Lasse Vibe to slot home. Pontus Jansson had a header cleared off the line while Modou Barrow and Kemar Roofe forced near post saves from Daniel Bentley. This was Leeds second away defeat in four days and most worrying is the level of these performances.

Woods Downs The Seagulls

Leeds United 2 Brighton & Hove Albion 0

On a magical night at Elland Rooad Chris Wood hit his 23rd and 24th goal of the season over fellow promotion hopefuls Brighton. With Fulham losing at home to Wolves the win put eight points between Leeds and 7th place in the Championship and the dream of the play offs is becoming a reality. After a poor first half Leeds took the lead on 63 minutes when Chris Wood headed home from Charlie Taylor's brilliant left wing cross

Keeper Rob Green who won an extension of a year to his contract after playing in every league game for Leeds this season made two great saves to thwart Anthony Knockaert and Glenn Murray for The Seagulls. The points were made safe for Leeds on 85 minutes when Woods smashed a penalty down the middle after Souleymane Doukara was tripped in the area.

Off Par Leeds Gain A Point

Leeds United 0 Queens Park Rangers 0

A below par performance from Leeds earned them a point while Reading and Sheffield Wednesday dropped points but Gary Monk will take it along with a clean sheet. With 11 games remaining and Fulham gaining momentum there will be a few more twists and turns before the play off places are decided. Despite dominating possession it was QPR who had the better chances and ex Leeds striker Matt Smith who received a great reception from the home crowd caused endless problems for the Leeds back four.

Home keeper Rob Green who was making his 600th league appearance against his former cub had an excellent game and made a fine first-half save
to denied Conor Washington when he was one on one with him. Alfonso Pedraza then tested Alex Smithien's in the QPR goal but that was the sum total of Leeds efforts on… Read more

Late Late Disappointment For Leeds

Fulham 1 Leeds United 1

Ex Leeds United youth player (1998-2007) Tom Cairney came back to haunt his is old club scoring in the fifth minute of injury time to gain a point for The Cottagers It was heart break for Leeds and their massive travelling supporters. Leeds took the lead in bizarre fashion on five minutes as Tim Ream sliced an attempted clearance under pressure from Doukara past goalkeeper David Button.

Then there was a controversial moment mid way through the first half when Neeskens Kebano seemed to have made it 1-1 with a shot that bounced down off the crossbar but a goal was not given as the ball was not deemed to have crossed the line. Alfonso Pedraza had two chances to double Leeds advantage seeing one saved by Button and one come back off a post.

Woods Gives Birmingham The Blues

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 3

Chris Wood scored twice at former club Birmingham City to bring his tally to 24 goals this season ( 22 in league) as Leeds kept up their impressive run for a play off place. Despite playing second fiddle to an impressive home side it was Woods who opened the scoring on 14th minutes when he chipped The Blues keeper with his first touch following a through ball by right back Luke Ayling.

On 63 minutes Craig Gardner levelled with a super left foot shot from 25-yard but four minutes later Leeds were back in front when Woods scored his second following a Phillips cross. This knocked the stuffing out of Gianfranco Zola side and on 81 minutes Alfonso Pedraza secured the three points for Leeds with his first goal for the club. Superb Green The Hero For Leeds

Leeds United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Ennislusc stalwart Marty Brennan and his lovely wife Melissa were at Elland Road to see this enthralling Yorkshire Derby and they certainly weren't disappointed with the high octane game they witnessed. It had a 35,000 plus crowd, a missed penalty for The Owels and most importantly a superb three points for Garry Monk's team courtesy of Chris Wood's 23rd goal of the season.

The all important goal came on 24 minutes when
Wood poked in from inside the six yard area following a left wing cross from Berardi. Wednesday appealed for offisde but TV replayed showed that their right back Hunt had played him onside. Owls striker Jordan Rhodes had a chance to equalise on 51 minutes after Souleymane Doukara fouled Sam Hutchinson but Robert Green dived brilliantly to his left and pushed his spot-kick onto the post. He may have come in for… Read more

Sluggish Leeds Dig Out A Point

Ipswich Town 1 Leeds United 1

On one of the poorest surfaces in the Championship a sluggish Leeds dug out a hard earned point against a very determined Ipswich side at Portman Road. Mick McCarthy's boys took the lead as early as the 9th minute when Freddie Sears volleyed in Grant Ward's right-sided cross. Ipswich were the better side in the opening half but on 42 minutes Stuart Dallas poked home an equaliser. It was harsh on The Tractor Boys but perfectly timed to give Gary Monk's men a lift going in at half time.

Mid way through the second half Ipswiches's David McGoldrick hit the bar and was also denied by Rob Green as Leeds held on for a hard-fought point. It's getting tight in the top six now with the chasing pack closing fast in particular Norwich and Fulham. Leeds have now 13 league games to play and each must… Read more

Back On Track After Downing The Robins

Leeds United 2 Bristol City 1

Chris Wood scored his 22nd goal of the season to help ease Leeds worries of a top six finish after two successive league defeats. Despite it being Valentine's Day a fine crowd turned up at Elland Road and Leeds went ahead on 27 minutes when Wood turned in Pablo Hernandez's quick free-kick. The visiting Bristol City manager Lee Johnson was fuming as he felt defender Bailey Wright had been fouled in the build-up. TV replays seem to bear this out but happily for Leeds fans the goal stood.

Two minutes after half time Hernandez doubled Leeds advantage when his deflected shot beat Robin's keeper Fabian Giefer. In the sixth minute of injury time Bristol pulled a goal back through Milan Djuric but it was a well earned three points for the home side. Leeds margin of victory may have been even greater if Chris Wood… Read more

The Blubirds Flying High At Elland Road

Leeds United 0 Cardiff City 2

Despite dominating the possession stats and having more shots on goal Leeds succumbed to a disappointing home defeat to a Cardiff side managed by ex Leeds manager Neil Warnock. Sean Morrison headed home from a Kenneth Noone cross on 53 minutes after the Leeds defence were caught napping with a quick free. Things got worse on 71 minutes when Zohore fired in a second following Aron Gunnarsson's break.

Despite having 17 shots on goal Leeds had only 3 on target which speaks for itself. Leeds failed to trouble Scottish keeper Allan McGregor and had Liam Bridcutt sent off for two bookings. It was a wake up call and with other teams in the top six winning Leeds can't afford too many slip ups..

Cruel End Denies Leeds A Point

Huddersfield Town 2 Leeds United 1

In a high intensity match which boiled over at the end it was The Terriers who came away with the bragging rights and leap frogged Leeds up to 4th in the Championship table. Centre half Michael Hefele scored a dramatic 89 minute winner as he prodded home after Aaron Mooy's shot deflected into his path off a Leeds defender. Following the goal Huddersfield manager David Wagner sprinted down the pitch to join his team's celebrations and on his way back to the technical area he bumped into Gary Monk. Both teams were then involved in a confrontation that culminated in both managers being sent off and three players being booked.
In fairness Gary Monk was the totally innocent party and held his council despite this totally unprofessional conduct of Wagner.

Sub Izzy Brown had put the Terriers in front on 27 minutes following a Tommy Smith cross… Read more
