Dire Display As Leeds Suffer The Blues

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 0

A humiliating defeat for in form Leeds at St Andrews when Congolese International Jacques Maghoma 83rd minute goal sealed the points for relieved Blues manager Steve Cotterill. The midfielder smashed the ball in from close range after Jota's shot was parried by Felix Wiedwald to give Blues their first victory in eight games.

Leeds best chance came from Pablo Hernandez when his shot was palmed onto the top of the crossbar by excellent Blues keeper David Stockdale. Thomas Christiansen side had won four-straight matches before today's game but they weren't at the races today. Why Christiansen didn't start Saiz only he can answer as when he came on in the second half he was Leeds best player. Now New Year Day game at Elland Road vs Forest takes on a new dimension and there would want to be a hundred percent improvement if we… Read more

Beauty From Hernandez

Burton Albion 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds United earned a fourth consecutive victory as they came from behind to deny Nigel Clough's side a win. The Brewers took the lead against the run of play on 29 minutes when defender Tom Naylor tapped in a Lucas Akins cross from two yards. The equalizer for Leeds was an absolute thing of beauty as Pablo Hernandez free kick from outside the box found the top corner.

This gave Leeds the spur to find a winner and three minutes later Kemar Roofe, who has found a new lease of life as a centre forward put Leeds in front, shooting home from ten yards. From here on Leeds dominated proceedings and deservedly held n fr the away points.

Pontus Gaining Cult Status

Leeds United 1 Norwich City 0

Pontus Jansson's 41st minute header gave Leeds a well deserved home victory over The Canaries.
Leeds biggest threat was from set-pieces and Jansson rose highest to power home Pawel Cibicki corner kick which went in off the post. Norwiche's Alex Pritchard went closest to levelling for Norwich seeing his effort come back off the bar with Wiedwald beaten.

Norwich were denied what looked a stone wall penalty after Nelson Oliveira was fell on the edge of the box but his protestations were waved away. Samuel Saiz who once again had an excellent game in the middle f the field struck the woodwork late on as Leeds held on for a great three points.

Roofe Hat Trick Ko's The R's

Queens Park Rangers 1 Leeds United 3

Ex Oxford United striker Kemar Roofe scored a brilliant hat-trick at Loftus Road and kept up the recent good run by Leeds. Mind you after a poor first half which was dominated by the home side Leeds came out all guns blazing in the second half and deservedly took the lead on 63 minutes. The first goal which was always going to be crucial
came following a great cross from Ezgjan Alioski which Roofe headed home powerfully. His second followed five minutes later when he got on the end of a cross from substitute Pawel Cibicki.

It looked like Leeds were home and hosed until
Leeds keeper Felix Wiedwald made a horrendous error to allow Pawel Wszolek's cross on the strike ff full time to bounce over his head to give the R's a lifeline. Since Robert Green left in the summer the goalkeeping… Read more

Ennislusc Travel To Elland Road For Villa Game

Once again Ennislusc members continued the tradition of traveling over to Elland Road for a fixture prior to Christmas and they were rewarded with a battling performance from The Whites against Steve Bruce's high flying Aston Villa. Being a Friday night televised fixture it was a bit unusual for the crew as that's normally the settling in period for them to sample some Yorkshire brew and get in the mood for a 3 pm kick off on Saturday. Gone are the days where we can fly over and back from Shannon as a group so it's buses to Dublin and trains to Leeds on arrival from Manchester or Birmingham.

Joining the lads at the game was Tadhg Murphy, son of Leeds United fanatic Alan. It seems only yesterday that Alan used be buying out the Leeds Superstore of a gear for his sons and now Tadhg is returning the favour… Read more

Pontus Earns Leeds A Point

Leeds United 1 Aston Villa 1

The Friday night live Sky Sport Championship game at Elland Road proved a cracker and was a great game for the traveling fans from Ennislusc to attend. Leeds were much the better side in the first half with Pontus Jansson heading home on 19 minutes following a Pablo Hernandez corner. This was no more than Leeds deserved but they were dealt a major blow on 42 minutes when play maker Hernandez was forced off with a leg injury.

It was always going to be a hard ask to keep Steve Bruce's Villa at bay and they were a much improved side in the second half. Wiedwald made a great save from Adomah but he'd no chance on 71 minutes when Henri Lansbury shot home from the edge of the area following a driving run from midfield. Neither side was able to create a clear… Read more

The Tykes No Match For Slick Whites

Barnsley 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds got back to winning ways after the Molineux nightmare when they beat Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. Oakwell is never an easy ground to visit but right from the start Leeds set the tone for the game. It was only right that Samuel Saiz but The Whites ahead on 23 minutes as he was the dominant player on the field and was pulling all the strings for Leeds. Four minutes into injury time Ezgjan Alioski made it two nil with his third consecutive league goal curling in a left foot shot from the edge f the area.

There was little in the second half with The Tykes not troubling Wiedwald in the Leeds goal. It's a badly needed three points to put Leeds back on track and with Aston Villa visitors to Elland Road next Saturday it couldn't come at a better time.

Pummeled At Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers 4 Leeds United 1

Leeds were though a lesson by a team Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen described as the best team in the division although he did point to the sending off of Vieira on 60 minutes as a contributing factor to the big defeat. Wolves went ahead on 15 minutes when Barry Douglas curled in a superb free kick after Liam Cooper gave away a silly free on the edge of the box.

Top scorer Leo Bonatini twice went close before Cavaleiro doubled Wolves lead on 26 minutes shooting from 12 yards to beat ex Wolves keeper Andy Lonergan. Leeds got a huge break three minutes after half time when Ezgjan Alioski ghosted in to pull one back but the sending off of Ronaldo Vieira for a second booking on sixty minutes effectively killed off any chance of salvaging something from the game.

Diogo Jota ran through a static Leeds… Read more

Leeds Dig Deep For Win

Leeds United 2 Middlesbrough 1

While ex Leeds manager Garry Monk received a great reception on his return to Elland Road that was as good as it got as the home side won for the first time on their home turf since the 23rd September. Mind you it may not have turned out so good for Leeds as they were on the receiving end of a horrendous penalty decision on 77 minutes given by the linesman and it was a battle there to the end including eight minutes of injury time to frey the nerves.

It was Pablo Hernandez who gave Leeds the lead on 24 minutes turned in a Kalvin Phillips flick-on when ghosting in at the back post. On 54 minutes Alioski scored his second goal in two games following a Hernandez cross. It looked like Leeds had only to see the game out for the three points until the… Read more

The Bees Deliver A Stinging Performance

Bradford City 3 Leeds United 1

A dominant Brentford inflict a sixth defeat in seven Championship games on Leeds and this despite missing a penalty on the stroke of half time and crashing two shots against the crossbar. While Leeds might feel hard done by after drawing level the truth is they were well outplayed by a Bradford team who dominated them in all positions. On this display Leeds will be lucky to stay in the top half of the table not to mind dreaming of a top six finish.

Neal Maupay headed the Bees ahead on 22 minutes after Leeds keeper Andy Lonergan made a complete dogs dinner of Yoann Barbet's left-wing cross. Then on 45 minutes, much to the relief of the travelling Leeds supporters Ollie Watkins blazed a penalty over the bar after been taken down by Pontus Jansson. Midway through the second half the Bradford keeper Daniel Bentley… Read more

Rough Justice

Leeds United 1 Derby County 2

Leeds went into the game in poor form having lost four of their previous five games and despite the tonic of an early goal they succumbed to a dreadful refereeing decision not to award Ezgjan Alioski a stone wall penalty and then giving The Rams a penalty on 80 minutes when the offence clearly took place outside the box.

On loan Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga had put The Whites ahead on seven minutes after being put through by Samuel Saiz. Derby had not a single shot on target in the first half but once Winnall scored on 72 minutes it seemed to deflate Leeds and the confidence drained from the team. Then disaster struck when Hadi Sacko was adjudged to have fouled Tom Lawrence in the box and Winnall scored his second goal of the night sending Andy Lonergan the wrong way from the… Read more

Blades Cut Down The Whites

Leeds United 1 Sheffield United 2

Sheffield United went top of the Championship thanks to substitutes David Brooks 81st minute winner in a tense Yorkshire derby. Leeds got off to the worst possible start when ex Leeds favourite Billy Sharp put The Blades in front with a second-minute header. It was catastrophic defending from Leeds and not the start that was wanted. Indeed they looked very nervous and were not up the the pitch of the game from the start.

Despite being out played for much of the first half Leeds got back into it on 34 minutes with a wonder volley from Kalvin Phillips. It looked as if Leeds had withered the storm when on 52 minutes Samuel Saiz hit the post from outside the area but in truth that was as good as it got for the home side.

Superb Display Sees Leeds Up To 4th

Bristol City 0 Leeds United 3

Thomas Christensen dropped a bombshell before kick off dropping inspirational centre back and fan favourite Pontus Jansson and replacing him with Everton loanee Matthew Pennington. Whatever about the pros and cons of that decision it certainly worked the oracle for Leeds as they put and end to Bristol City's 12-match unbeaten run and are now back up to fourth in the table. Ashton Gate is never an easy place to visit and considering the home team had only conceded three league goals at home this season this was a tremendous results for The Whites.

Samuel Saiz's seventh and eight goal this season in the fourth and fourteenth minute put Leeds in the driving seat and gave the team some much needed confidence early on. His first shot deflecting past Bristol keeper Frank Fielding and his seconded came after a defensive error. On loan Hamburg striker… Read more

Dire Penalty Miss Sums Up The Display

Leeds United 0 Reading 1

Reading goalkeeper Vito Mannone saved an injury-time penalty from Pablo Hernandez to consign Leeds to a first home defeat of the season ans inflict their third League defeat in a row. This was a terribly disappointing performance before the biggest crowd of the season and with five players booked Leeds will also suffer a fine from the FA. To add insult to injury it was an ex Leeds loanee Modou Barrow who won the game for Jaap Stam's team with a cool finish on 85 minutes.

It was only in the last ten minutes that this came to life and before the goal Andy Lonergan who was preferred to Wiedwald in goal made a cracking save from Barrow but could do nothing with the shot that beat him. However Leeds got a get out of jail opportunity when Samu Saiz was taken down in the box… Read more

Yorkshire Derby Nightmare

Sheffield Wednesday 3 Leeds United

Ex Celtic striker Gary Hooper hit two first half goals to help The Owels inflict a third defeat in four league games on a very disappointing Leeds side. This was one of the worst performances from a Leeds side in many a day and certainly brings the fans down to earth after a great start to the season.

Both of Hooper's goals in the 25th and 41st minute were close-range finishes from knockdowns in the box and he could have had a hat-trick but hit the bar in second-half stoppage time. Ex Leeds United loan player Barry Bannan pulled the strings in midfield and Leeds couldn't cope with his incisive runs which set up two of Wednesday's three goals.

Kieran Lee hit a cracker from 30 yards for Wednesday's third and end a humiliating day for Thomas Christiansen and company. Pierre-Michel Lasogga hit the post for… Read more

Reality Check For Leeds

Cardiff City 3 Leeds United 1

The Bluebirds gave a super display to knock Leeds off the top of the table and gave Thomas Christiansen some headaches before next Sunday's televised Yorkshire derby with Sheffield Wednesday. They will also be without captain Liam Cooper who was rightly sent off for a ridiculous second booking just on the stroke of half time at which stage Leeds were already two down.

Cardiff lead at the break thanks to Kenneth Zohore's close-range finish and a thumping 20-yard strike from ex Queens Park Ranger striker Junior Hoilett who won the Man Of The Match Award. It got worse for Leeds as Zohore tapped in Cardiff's third but Roofe's deflected effort was scant consolation for a dreadful performance from The Whites

Leeds Dodge A Bullet Says McCarthy

Leeds United 3 Ipswich Town 2

After a dream start Leeds were left hanging on to gain a valuable win and stay top of the Championship. On loan Hamburg striker Pierre-Michel Lasogga who is quickly becoming a fans favourite put the hosts in front on thirteen minutes with a great finish from just inside the box. It was just the start Leeds wanted in front of a massive home crowd but on thirty minutes David McGoldric headed in unchallenged from six yards. This had Leeds reeling but two minutes later Kalvin Phillips came racing in at the back post to send Ellland Road into raptures.

The three points looked safe on sixty seven minutes when The Tractors Boy's goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski dropped a Pablo Hernandez corner over his own line when he was totally unchallenged. However as we all know Leeds like to keeoer their supporters on tenter hooks and… Read more

Gentleman John Finn

It was with deep sadness that we learned early this morning that our great friend and Ennislusc member John Finn had gone to his eternal rest following a short illness. For many of us the first place we met John was when we entered St Flannan's College and stepped into his Irish class. Now Irish wasn't my strongest subject and I wasn't alone but John made it fun and enjoyable and unlike many other classes this was one you would look forward to. He was an excellent teacher and long after many of us left Flannan's we got to know John, the family man, golfer, drama player and above all Leeds United fan.

He wandered down one evening to Moroney's Bar, home of Ennislusc along with his good friend and ex Flannan's colleague Joe Hestor to watch a live Leeds United game. As he often told me it was in trepidation… Read more

Still Top Despite Defeat

Milwall 1 Leeds United 0

All good things come to an end and at The Den on Saturday Leeds succumbed to their first league defeat of the season against a dominant Milwall team who well deserved their victory. This was The Lions eight win in their previous nine league games at home to Leeds so this victory comes as n surprise. It was a very poor performance from Leeds and to compound the result Pontus Jannson limped off with a hamstring injury on 82 minutes and could not be replaced as all the substitutes had been used.

Aiden O'Brien scored the only goal on 73 minutes from a goalmouth scramble and no one could begrudge Neil Harris's men the victory. Leeds had not ONE shot on goal which tells it's own story. It is how The Whites bounce back from this defeat which will tells us how good this squad… Read more
