Season Over Before St Patrick's Day

Following two disastrous results away to Middlesbrough and home to table toppers Wolves our season ended in a whimper with a draw away to Reading. What started out so brightly last August ended with a change of manager and along with an alarming drop in form which gives us no chance of a play off place with nearly three months remaining in the season.

Already it's plain to see we need a goalkeeper, centre back, left back, two midfielders and a winger. Unfortunately we may not have money in the kitty for such players but without them we are destined for a long stay in the Championship. A respectable finish is all that remains for us now.

Finally A Win

Leeds United 1 Brentford 0

Leeds United ended their 10-match winless run with victory over The Bees in a drab game at Elland Road. Liam Cooper headed home Ezgjan Alioski's free-kick on 31 minutes to bring huge relief to the home supporters. Pierre-Michel Lasogga nearly scored a second when his shot beat goalkeeper Dan Bentley but Ryan Woods cleared off the line.

Bees defender and Kerryman John Egan had forced a fine save from home keeper Felix Wiedwald before Cooper's goal but the visitors rarely threatened thereafter. It was Leeds' first win under Paul Heckingbottom their previous success having come at Burton on Boxing Day under previous head coach Thomas Christiansen.

Heartbreak In Injury Time For Leeds

Derby County 2 Leeds United 2

Kasey Palmer struck in the 92nd minute to deny Leeds United a first win in 2018. It was a huge set back for Leeds as they are now eight points off the play off places. Lasogga headed past Scott Carson on 34 minutes from a Stuart Dallas cross but Andreas Weimann equalised two minutes into injury time following a poorly headed clearance by Liam Cooper

On 79 minutes Ezgjan Alioski finished off a brilliant counter attack to put The Whites ahead and finally a win looked on. Disaster struck in injury time for The Whites but in the 94th minutes Lasogga hit the crossbar with a brilliant header and a point was our lot

Goalkeeping Errors Prove Costly Once Again

Leeds United 2 Bristol City 2

A disastrous start for Leeds new manager Paul Heckingbottom in his first home game put Leeds on the back ft but to their credit they dug out a draw and were unlucky at the end not to get all three points. What is certain for next season is we need a top class goalkeeper as once again Wiedwald was to blame for Bristol's goals. He twice failed to deal with long throw-ins allowing Famara Diedhiou and Bobby Reid to score from close range in the 11th and 16th minutes He was completely at sea for the first goal which one could only describe as a shocking goalkeeping error.

Pierre-Michel Lasogga who seems to have got a new lease of life since his family moved over from Germany made it 2-1 on 72 minutes before Kemar Roofe leveled on 80 minutes. Lasogga nearly snatched it in… Read more

No Joy For New Boss

Sheffield United 2 Leeds United 1

Billy Sharp came back to haunt his former club and give new Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom plenty of food for thought. Leeds wore black armbands as a tribute to former player Liam Miller who died on Friday aged just 36. Sharp's scored a potential goal of the season after just two minutes and it was a fitting way to celebrated his 200th career goal. Indeed he could have had a second minutes later but his header went over the bar. Leeds were under the cosh in the first half but got a tonic start two minutes after half time when Pierre-Michel Lasogga powerfully headed home.

However on 72 minutes Eunan O Kane who was just back from suspension brought down John Fleck in the box and Sharp made no mistake from the spot. Leeds had chances to level through Lasogga 25-yard strike and a… Read more

Heckingbottom Appointed Manager

Well the board acted quickly to appoint Ex Barnsley manager Paull Heckingbottom as the new man to steer Leeds back to the promised land that is The Premiership. He becomes Leeds 7th manager in under four years and has signed a two year contract. He is a young manager(40) and his first job will be to get Leeds back on track for a play off spot and his first game in charge will be against Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United. This will be no easy task and with the game live on Sky Sports the spotlight will be on him big time.

Christiansen Sacked

It has come as no surprise that Leeds acted quickly after the shocking home defeat to Cardiff City and sacked manager Thomas Christiansen. Without a victory in 7 games, 10 defeats in the league and knocked out of the FA Cup by Newport County the writing was on the wall for TC. He was appointed on a two year contract last June after coming from APOEL Nicosia but after a bright start the wheels have come off the wagon. Discipline has been an issue with four red cards in the last five games and confidence is at an all time low with the players. A quick appointment is essential and hopefully someone that has a knowledge of the Championship.

Absolute Disaster

Leeds United 1 Cardiff City 4

A harrowing day for Leeds at Elland Road where they were humiliated by Neil Warnock's (his 5th straight win against Leeds since he was sacked as their manager) high flying Skybirds. And yet another red card, the fourth in the last five games. It's hard to see Thomas Christiansen last much longer after this dismal performance which was shown live on Sky Sports.

First half goals from Callum Paterson, Junior Hoilett and Sean Morrison along with a deserved a red card for Leeds Gaetano Berardi saw the game over as a contest at half time. Anthony Pilkington added a fourth before ex Leeds defender Sol Bamba put through his own net for a consolation goal. At this stage huge numbers of Leeds fans had left the stadium and who could blame them such was the effort of their side.

Point Not Enough

Hull City 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds United secured a draw at relegation-threatened Hull City to end their three-game losing run in what can only be described as a poor advertisement for the Championship.Much maligned goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald had an excellent game for Leeds making excellent saves from Bowen, Dicko and Jackson Irvine to secure a valuable point.

It was a game that Leeds targeted the three points after a poor run of results but they can be thankful for the pint as Hull were the better team. Pierre-Michel Lasogga and Ezgjan Alioski both had half chances for Leeds and this was as good as it got for Thomas Christianse's side.

Another Sending Off Proves Costly

Leeds United 3 Millwall 4

What can one say about this game where Leeds had a man sent off for the third consecutive game, went 2-0 down, came back to lead 3-2 and then conceded two goals in the last five minutes to lose a thriller. The Lions went 2-0 up through Aiden O'Brien on 18 minutes and Lee Gregory n forty two while Liam Cooper was sent off before the break for a late challenge on George Saville. Some might say it was harsh but on second viewing the referee had little option as it was a terrible tackle. Millwall had also a goal disallowed in the first half and in truth could have been 6-0 at half time with all the chances they squandered.

However a double from Pierre-Michel Lasogga on 46 and 62 minutes either side of Kemar Roofe's finish on 55 minutes had Leeds supporters scratching their heads… Read more

Ennislusc 15th Birthday

Today 15 years ago Ennislusc was founded in Considine's Bar , Parnell Street which at the time was run by Paul Nuggy Nihill. It has been a roller coaster time for Leeds supporters since then with relegation from the Premiership, them the Championship and promotion back up to the championship. However our membership has never wavered and we are an extremely well supported club.

Unfortunately we have lost four of our members since our foundatin who have gone to their eternal rest and we think of Mike McNamara, Jimmy Allard, Gerry Sheridan and John Finn today. Gone but never forgotten by all your friends at Ennislusc. The friendships made through Ennislusc are for life and there is a bond there among members that isn't found in too many clubs. Indiscipline Proves Costly Once Again

Ipswich Town 1 Leeds United 0

The Tractor Boys denied 10-man Leeds the chance to move back into the Championship play-off places thanks to a wonder strike from Bersant Celina. He hit a gal of the season effort over Felix Wiedwald from 30 yards after Kalvin Phillips lost his footing in midfield and Celina benefited.

The turning point of the game came in the 37th minute when Leeds midfielder Eunan O'Kane was shown a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident involving Jonas Knudsen. This gave the visitors an uphill battle but despite being a man short they looked most likely to win the game let alone take a point until Celin's intervention. With ten minutes remaining Liam Cooper fired over from three yards out and thus dropped Leeds out of the top six.

For the want of repeating myself we need a striker in this January window if we hazard any… Read more

Dire Display Ends In Disgrace For Saiz

Newport County 2 Leeds United 1

Leeds made nine changes for the FA Cup tie with
League Two Newport County at Rodney Parade and paid a heavy price being dumped out of the competition. To compound a terrible day for The Whites Saiz was sent off in the 91st minute for spitting and will now get a six game ban. Earlier in the season Leeds beat Newport 5-1 in the Carabao Cup and it looked like being more of the same when Gaetano Beradi put them ahead in the ninth minute but that was as good as it got for the Yorkshire men.

Conor Shaughnessy's own goal on 76 minutes lifted The Exiles and from there on Leeds were hanging on in the hope of a draw and a replay at Elland Road. However on 89 minutes Newport's Shawn McCoulsky rose highest following a corner and bedlam ensued as the Welsh… Read more

Toothless Up Front

Leeds United 0 Nottingham Forest 0

Leeds were held to a goalless draw by manager less Forest in a game that they dominated but couldn't find the net. Pontus Jansson had a header cleared off the line and Kemar Roofe rattled the crossbar after a brilliant run by Samu Saiz had set him up late in the second half. It's now blatantly obvious that we haven't replace Chris Wood's goals and if we are to have any chance of a play off pace we need t buy in the January transfer window.

Dire Display As Leeds Suffer The Blues

Birmingham City 1 Leeds United 0

A humiliating defeat for in form Leeds at St Andrews when Congolese International Jacques Maghoma 83rd minute goal sealed the points for relieved Blues manager Steve Cotterill. The midfielder smashed the ball in from close range after Jota's shot was parried by Felix Wiedwald to give Blues their first victory in eight games.

Leeds best chance came from Pablo Hernandez when his shot was palmed onto the top of the crossbar by excellent Blues keeper David Stockdale. Thomas Christiansen side had won four-straight matches before today's game but they weren't at the races today. Why Christiansen didn't start Saiz only he can answer as when he came on in the second half he was Leeds best player. Now New Year Day game at Elland Road vs Forest takes on a new dimension and there would want to be a hundred percent improvement if we… Read more

Beauty From Hernandez

Burton Albion 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds United earned a fourth consecutive victory as they came from behind to deny Nigel Clough's side a win. The Brewers took the lead against the run of play on 29 minutes when defender Tom Naylor tapped in a Lucas Akins cross from two yards. The equalizer for Leeds was an absolute thing of beauty as Pablo Hernandez free kick from outside the box found the top corner.

This gave Leeds the spur to find a winner and three minutes later Kemar Roofe, who has found a new lease of life as a centre forward put Leeds in front, shooting home from ten yards. From here on Leeds dominated proceedings and deservedly held n fr the away points.

Pontus Gaining Cult Status

Leeds United 1 Norwich City 0

Pontus Jansson's 41st minute header gave Leeds a well deserved home victory over The Canaries.
Leeds biggest threat was from set-pieces and Jansson rose highest to power home Pawel Cibicki corner kick which went in off the post. Norwiche's Alex Pritchard went closest to levelling for Norwich seeing his effort come back off the bar with Wiedwald beaten.

Norwich were denied what looked a stone wall penalty after Nelson Oliveira was fell on the edge of the box but his protestations were waved away. Samuel Saiz who once again had an excellent game in the middle f the field struck the woodwork late on as Leeds held on for a great three points.

Roofe Hat Trick Ko's The R's

Queens Park Rangers 1 Leeds United 3

Ex Oxford United striker Kemar Roofe scored a brilliant hat-trick at Loftus Road and kept up the recent good run by Leeds. Mind you after a poor first half which was dominated by the home side Leeds came out all guns blazing in the second half and deservedly took the lead on 63 minutes. The first goal which was always going to be crucial
came following a great cross from Ezgjan Alioski which Roofe headed home powerfully. His second followed five minutes later when he got on the end of a cross from substitute Pawel Cibicki.

It looked like Leeds were home and hosed until
Leeds keeper Felix Wiedwald made a horrendous error to allow Pawel Wszolek's cross on the strike ff full time to bounce over his head to give the R's a lifeline. Since Robert Green left in the summer the goalkeeping… Read more

Ennislusc Travel To Elland Road For Villa Game

Once again Ennislusc members continued the tradition of traveling over to Elland Road for a fixture prior to Christmas and they were rewarded with a battling performance from The Whites against Steve Bruce's high flying Aston Villa. Being a Friday night televised fixture it was a bit unusual for the crew as that's normally the settling in period for them to sample some Yorkshire brew and get in the mood for a 3 pm kick off on Saturday. Gone are the days where we can fly over and back from Shannon as a group so it's buses to Dublin and trains to Leeds on arrival from Manchester or Birmingham.

Joining the lads at the game was Tadhg Murphy, son of Leeds United fanatic Alan. It seems only yesterday that Alan used be buying out the Leeds Superstore of a gear for his sons and now Tadhg is returning the favour… Read more
