We'll Take The Point

Leeds United 0 Middlesbrough 0

This was a dour game involving the two top sides in the Championship in front of a huge crowd for a Friday night televised game (35,417)and while Leeds dominated in the possession stakes they had no clear chances on goal. Boro on the other hand are a huge physical team who rely on set pieces to create chances and it was here that they caused the home side most problems. Leeds fans will be happy with the point which keeps us on top but the failure to create chances is a worry going forward. Perhaps when Patrick Bamford gets up to speed fitness wise we will be a more potent force but one huge positive is the form of goalkeeper Bailey Bradley-Peackock. He was outstanding tonight and saved a certain goal when his own defender headed towards goal from a Boro corner.

Boro had the best… Read more

Josie Hestor New Ennislusc President

Tonight Liam Jones stepped down as President of Ennislusc and hand over the chain of office to his good friend Josie Hestor. Joe is well know to many people in Clare and beyond from his roll as a teacher in St Flannan's College before his retirement some years ago. A life long Leeds fan, Joe is a regular in Moroney's for the televised games and has been on numerous trip to Elland Road. All his friends at Ennislusc wish him well in his new role and know the club is in great hands going forward.

We would also like to thank Liam for his contribution to Ennislusc being part of the club from the beginning and always promoting the club particularly in East Clare. On the night Liam was the recipient of a surprise birthday cake ( a little bird had told us his birthday was on 1st Sept) presented to… Read more

Champagne Football

Norwich City 0 Leeds United 3

This start to the season continues to get better and better. A stunning performance from Leeds sunk The Canaries at Carrow Road and keeps The Whites top of the Championship. It was also great to see Marcelo Bielsa say in his after match comments "But we have only played about 10 per cent of the season and we have to keep things in perspective."
and keep both the players and fans grounded for the long road ahead.

Mateusz Klich who has been called up to the Poland team squad for their friendly vs Italy gave United the lead on 21 minutes when he was on hand to finish to the net after ex Newcastle United keeper Tim Krul had parried Ezgjan Alioski's header. This was the tonic start Leeds needed after their tough mid week encounter with Swansea and five minutes later Alioski doubled the lead as… Read more

Top Of The Table

Swansea City 2 Leeds United 2

The Liberty Stadium has not proved a happy hunting ground for Leeds in recent years and when captain Liam Cooper got injured in the warm up it looked liked the omens were not good. However this is a different Leeds team under Marcelo Bielsa and they showed some resolve and determination to twice fight back from a goal down to gain a superb point and remain unbeaten in the league. Young Jamie Shackleton came in a right back and had a tremendous full league debut with Ayling deputising for Cooper

Leeds summer target Oli McBurnie, himself a Leeds born youngster put The Swans ahead on 24 minutes with an excellent finish. Despite playing second fiddle to the home side in form Kemar Roofe scored on 40 minutes to bring Leeds back into the game.

However six minutes into the second half McBurnie restored Swansea's lead… Read more

Bielsa Makes History

Leeds United 2 Rotherham United 0

Marcello Bielsa became the fist manager (head coach)in Leeds United's history to win his opening four competitive matches in a debut season. Many of us were wondering why was he appointed despite having an excellent CV but he's being nothing but a breath of fresh air and given us long suffering fans an air of expectancy we haven't had for many a year.

Leeds started brightly but were somewhat fortunate that Jon Taylor's shot came back off the inside of the post with Bradley-Peacock beaten. Despite having the best of the first half Leeds couldn't find the breakthrough but four minutes into the second half that all changed. Luke Ayling put Leeds ahead with his first league goal for the club with a diving header. Goal line technology was required to confirm the goal and Samuel Saiz had a shot cleared off the line as Leeds… Read more

On The Road Again To ER

This years first club trip of the season to Elland Road is the game vs Nottingham Forest on 27th October. As of now the game is on at 3pm on Saturday but if it was to be changed to Sunday for Sky Sports to show live at 12.15pm it would still allow those proposing to go over to see the game which is a great consideration. It is proposed to fly from Shannon to Manchester at 7.10am on 25th October and fly home on 27th at 20.30pm with Ryanair from Manchester. The hotel of preference is The Clayton which we have stayed in regularly and is an excellent spot. It will be decided nearer the time whether to hire a bus or travel by train to Leeds from Manchester.

If you are interested in traveling get booking quickly as prices will rise rapidly with Ryanair as numbers on the flight… Read more

Am I Dreaming Or What

Derby County 1 Leeds United 4

With Leeds live on Sky TV for the second consecutive league game they didn't disappoint with a scintillating performance at Pride Park and on this evidence it's no wonder Sky are showing us so often. Now let's not get carried away but this performance even shocked the most ardent Leeds follower as it's virtually the same team that finished last season but they seem to be completely transformed by new manager Marcelo Bielsa . Yes he's got them playing a high tempo game but it's the football that they are playing which is catching the eye. Simply we've seen nothing like it since we were playing in the Champions League back in Dave O Leary's time and that was when there was a never ending supply of cash made on high profile transfers and we all know how that ended. It's early says but boy… Read more

Dream Start To The Season

Leeds United 3 Stoke City 1

Every Leeds fan must have thought thet were dreaming such was the performance of The Whites in dismantling The Potters in the opening game of the Championship. We were late entrants into the transfer window but we seem to have bought wisely and got some excellent loan signings. The fact that top signing Patrick Bamford and Pontus Jonnson didn't play shows that we have some strength in depth now and the loan window is still open until the end of August so expect one or two more coming in. Leeds United’s 3-1 victory over Stoke City is their biggest win on the opening weekend since a 3-0 win over Manchester City in 2002/03.

Marcelo Bielsa ( Leeds eight manager in eight seasons) likes his teams to play at a high tempo and for the six weeks of pre season he had the Leeds squad put… Read more

Wedding Bells For Mick and Caroline

Saturday afternoon next is a momentous day for Ennislusc Club Secretary Mike Jones when he walks down the aisle with the love of his life Caroline Flannery at the picturesque setting of St Joseph's Church in Miltown Malbay at 1.30 pm. Since the foundation of Ennislusc Mike and his Dad Liam have been stalwarts of the club and have been on numerous club trips to Elland Road. Mike in his capacity as secretary set up a What's App group for Ennislusc members and this has been a tremendous success in keeping everyone updated. While Leeds United is close to Mick's heart so is the red and black colours of Whitegate which has been donned by the famous Naoise Jordan, All Star wing back Brendan Bugler and indeed Mick himself has togged with An Geata Ban.

The wedding reception is being held in The Falls Hotel, Ennistymon and for those who can't… Read more

Time To Look Forward After Disappointing Season

Leeds United 2 Queens Park Rangers 0

Leeds United finished their disappointing Championship season with victory against a very youthful QPR side. In what was a nothing game, once again played in front of a 30,000 plus crowd at Elland Road the home side ended the season in 13th place, a long way off last season's 7th place. Expectations were very high at the start of the season but Paul Heckingbottom 4th win in 16 games just shows how poorly we have played. Yes you can point to the change in manger, injuries to key squad members and numerous suspensions due to sending offs but in truth this was a dreadful season which tested all true Leeds supporters who never flinched in their loyalty given the attendances at ER.

Kamir Roofe put Leeds in front on 30 minutes with a spectacular overhead kick after the R's failed to clear a corner. Two… Read more

Thankfully The Season Is All But Over

Norwich City 2 Leeds United 1

Ex Irish International Wes Hoolahan scored a fairy tail goal on his final home appearance for The Canaries as they came from behind to defeat Leeds United. Houlihan who was captain for the day minutes scored with a deflected shot which looped over Leeds keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell. This goal came five minutes after Kalvin Phillips had opened the scoring for Leeds with a super volley from 25 yards.

Leeds could have scored again just moments after scoring their first when Kemar Roofe blasted a shot into the side-netting. On 69 minutes Norwich scored the winner when Houlihan this time proved the assist for Josh Murphy to fire home. Unfortunately this Leeds side seem to lack a cutting edge and confidence is at an all time low given the upheaval at the club re managers and the terrible run since Christmas. The end of the… Read more

Is This Really Happening

Unbelievable Jeff comes to mind when we heard the news that our beloved club is contemplating two friendlies in war torn Myanmar in Burma. One couldn't write the way things are panning out at Elland Road after a season where we sacked our Cypriot manager, recruited a manager that had won one of his previous 17 games, design a club crest that caused a revolution among supporters and sell our best players and now this ridiculous tour.

Trying to justify the tour because our owner has business interest over there and that this would enhance the profile of the club is utter nonsense. The British goverment advises it's citizens nt to travel there and Labour MP Dr Rosena Allina Khan has written to our owner requesting the club to change it's mind. We have been the laughing stock in football circles for years but this is a step too far… Read more

Youngesters Shine At The Back For Leeds

Leeds United 2 Barnsley 1

Leeds manager Paul Heckingbottom inflicted a damaging defeat on his former club as the battle to avoid relegation and gave the home supporters something to shout about at last in this Yorkshire derby. Mind you it's nothing to write home about as it's only Leeds's fourth win since Christmas and three of those came against bottom three teams. On a positive note the attendance at Elland Road was over 30,000 for the 17th time in 22 fixtures which is absolutely extraordinary.

Youngester Tom Pearce put Leeds ahead on 17 minutes with his first senior goal when shooting home from 25 yards. It was a spectacular effort and one he'll find hard to beat for the rest of his career. Unfortunately on 44 minutes Limerick's Paudie O Connor who had an excellent game despite his tender years
deflected Zeki Fryers cross into his own net for the… Read more

Another Defeat On The Road

Aston Villa 1 Leeds United 0

Villa secured their place in the Championship play-offs with a dominating display against a poor Leeds United side. Once again The Whites were live on Sky Sports but it was the home side that showed the greater will to win as Leeds were only playing for pride as their season is long over. Once again there is speculation about Leeds changing managers as ex Republic Of Ireland manager Mick McCarthy has become available as he's severed his ties with Ipswich Town. He certainly would be a popular choice with the fans but the club needs a clear out and as Paul Heckingbottom inherited the squad he can't bear the blunt of the blame for our mid table position. At least he's give the young players like Paudie O Connor, Tom Pearce and Bradley Peacock-Farrell a chance and they have acquitted themselves quite well.

Villa… Read more

Two Wins In Ninetheen

Preston North End 3 Leeds United 1

The Lilywhites came from a goal down after 13 minutes to seal a valuable win in their push for a play off place. Kemar Roofe put Leeds ahead on 13 minutes following a Kalvin Phillips cross and it was just what the away supporters craved for after a horrendous few weeks. However that was as good as it got and four minutes after half time Paul Gallagher levelled from the penalty spot after Billy Bodin was fouled in the area by Vurnon Anita.

Three minutes later ex Cork City star Seanie Maguire put Preston in front from following a Gallagher cross. Another ex Cork City player Alan Browne wrapped up the win with a header on 82 minutes from Callum Robinson's cross. Defeat at Deepdale extended Leeds disastrous run to just two wins in 19 games. Ex Limerick City player Paudie O Connor started his second… Read more

Berardi Sent Off Once Again

Leeds United 1 Sunderland 1

Pablo Hernandez curled in a superb equaliser to deny the Black Cats a away win in their effort to avoid relegation. In truth it was tough luck on the Chris Coleman managed team as they dominated proceedings but those are the breaks you get when scrapping at the foot of the table.

Sunderland went ahead on 48 minutes when Paddy McNair scored and both sides hit the woodwork twice before Hernandez levelled it on 72 minutes. Gaetano Berardi was sent off on 90 minutes for a foul on Callum McManaman and this was his third red card of the season. This now rules him out until next season and it remains to be seen if he will still be at Elland Road then.

Another super crowd at ER and one wonders how long they are going to put up with these poor performances.

Super Supporters Deserve Better

Fulham 2 Leeds United 0

There were over 4,500 Leeds fans at Craven Cottage including Ennislusc members Kevin, Nolette and James Barry, Dom O Rourke and John Galvin and family but they came away with that sinking feeling that we are miles off the pace to be contenders and major surgery is needed to the side during the summer. It's all about finishing the season well now and getting some badly needed confidence back into the side. Fulham on the other hand showed why they are the Championship's form side and they well deserved their win.

Kevin McDonald put The Cottagers ahead on 33 minutes when he deflected in Aleksandar Mitrovic's header from a corner which in truth Leeds defended badly. The big turning point in the game came on 63 minutes when Caleb Ekuban failed to put away a one on one with Fulham keeper Bettinelli and 14 seconds… Read more

Stop To The Rot

Leeds United 2 Bolton Wanderers 1

Leeds United ended their run of four games without a win with a hard earned victory over Bolton at Elland Road. Caleb Ekuban sent the home fans into ecstasy after three minutes volleying home his first Championship goal. It was a poor first half but Leeds took a giant step toward the points after the break when on 50 minutes Pablo Hernandez met the rebound from Ezgjan Alioski's shot to score.

However three minutes later Adam Le Fondre pulled one back for the visitors heading Sammy Ameobi's free-kick. Leeds could have extended their lead in added time when substitute Samuel Saiz played Ekuban into a one-on-one with Ben Alnwick but the keeper stood tall. A win but nothing to write home about for the biggest home crowd of the season (35,377) at Elland Road and in The Championship. For sure the supporters deserve more for… Read more

Yet More Misery

Leeds United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 2

Leeds have now taken just six points from Paul Heckingbottom's first eight games in charge and won only one of their last 15 games in all competitions. This season that promised so much is finishing in disaster in early March and all our expectations have evaporated once more. Will we every see The Premiership again I hear you say.

To compound matters Atdhe Nuhiu's scored his second goal of the game in the 91st minute to give The Owels the points after Leeds substitute Jay-Roy Grot looked to have earned the home side a draw when he headed home Pablo Hernandez's cross on 86 minutes. All that's left now is to see out the season and major changes need to take place in the summer if we are to ever challenge for promotion.

Ennislusc Purchase Stone at Bremner Square

The iconic statue at Elland Road of Billy Bremner is getting a make over and thanks to the great work of our secretary Mike Jones, Ennislusc has purchased a single granite stone which will now bear our great clubs name for ever more. The cost of the stone was €570 with the club bearing the majority of the cost and Moroney's Bar contributing €100 which we are eternally grateful.

The inscription on the stone will read Ennis L.U.S.C. Co. Clare, Ireland, Marching On Together. It is hoped to be in place for the start of next season and it will be part of the pilgrimage to Elland Road forever more for Ennislusc members.
