Points Thrown Away Once Again

Leeds United 1 Nottingham Forest 1

Lewis Grabban grabbed a point for Forest when his scrappy effort scraped over the line with their only effort on target. As was the case last season Leeds dominated possession but could not translate that into goals. And on the day a group from Ennislusc were in attendance for the first home game of the season to endure more agony. Once again Patrick Bamford was toothless up front and squandered a number of clear cut chances. Unless he starts firing up front and with Roofe departed it's hard to see us scoring the goals to take us up to The Premiership.

When Pablo Hernandez scored a cracking goal on 59 minutes it looked like Leeds were coasting to their second successive victory but as we all know being 1-0 always gives the other team hope. On 77 minutes Leeds failed to clear a Forest corner… Read more

Superb Start To New Season

Bristol City 1 Leeds United 3

Leeds began their Championship season in fantastic style with a superlative display at Ashton Gate against Bristol City. Always a tricky fixture and with the pressure of being favourites for promotion Leeds needed a good start and that's what they got. New signing Ben White on loan from Brighton was excellent at the back in place of cult hero Pontus Jansson now with Brentford.

Leeds took the lead on 26 mins which came Pablo Hernandez curled in a left foot drive from 20 yards into the top corner. He then created their second on 57 minutes crossing for Patrick Bamford to head home. Bielsa's boys put the result beyond doubt on 72 minute when Leeds winger Jack Harrison added a third from close range. Leeds were playing their trademark Bielsa style with high-pressing and high-intensity combined with some excellent passing movements.

The Dream Begins Again

The Championship kicks off this weekend and Leeds have been installed as one of the favourites for automatic promotion. After our disappointing end to last season where our great run petered out over the last eight games culminating in a disastrous loss to Derby in the play off semi final at Elland Road positivity for the long suffering Leeds fans has returned. Record sales of 4,000 new away shirts in 24 hours shattering all previous record says the fans are digging deep for their team. This being The Centenary year the pressure is heightened on Bielsa and his team to finally get back to The Premiership.

Leeds have signed centre back Ben White from Brighton and have got winger Helder Costa on loan from Wolves which is an exceptional signing. Also the sale of Jack Clarke to Spurs was a terrible disappointment to Leeds fans but tha fact that he's been… Read more

Controversial First Leg Win For Leeds

Derby County 0 Leeds United 1

Leeds United have the advantage in the Championship play-off semi-final after a controversial if well deserved first-leg win over The Rams at Pride Park. Sharp shooter Kemar Roofe's 15th goal of the season was the difference between the teams. The all important goal came on 55 minutes when the forward producing an excellent first-time finish from Jack Harrison's brilliant pass from the left wing. As has been the case all season Leeds dominated possession but they lacked a cutting edge up front.

However the big talking point in the game came on 76 minutes when Derby were incensed when assistant referee Eddie Smart persuaded referee Craig Pawson to overturn his award of a penalty to them after Harrison had been adjudged to have fouled Jayden Bogle. Truthfully it was a very hard one to call as the free could have gone either way and the… Read more

Tractor Boys Add Insult To Injury For Leeds

Ipswich Town 3 Leeds United 2

Leeds United stuttered their way into the play-offs as relegated Ipswich picked up a rare victory at Portman Road Stadium. It was a game that Leeds could not afford to lose if West Bromwich Albion won away to Derby. If this was to happen United would be relegated to fourth place but luckily The Rams did us a big favour beating The Baggies to insure we finished third.

Leeds were a pale shadow of themselves and Collin Quaner grabbed a 90th-minute winner for the Championship's bottom club moments after they had been reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute.
Ipswich had earlier led twice through strikes from Flynn Downes and Andre Dozzell either side of goals from Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas.

Leeds spurned the chance for victory themselves when Kemar Roofe failed to convert a penalty awarded to him by a foul from Luke Chambers… Read more

Astonishing Scenes At Elland Road

Leeds United 1 Aston Villa 1

Leeds United's hopes of automatic promotion to the Premier League this season over after manager Marcelo Bielsa sportingly allowed Aston Villa to score an uncontested goal in a unbelievable game at Elland Road. It was an evenly contested game until the 72nd minute when Mateusz Klich goal caused all the controversy.Leeds initially opted to play on following a challenge by home defender Liam Cooper which left Villa striker Jonathan Kodjia down injured.

Tyler Roberts received the ball and for a split second looked as if he was going to put it out of play but instead passed the ball forward to Klich. Interestingly Klich was in an offside position but played on, cut inside and curl a low right-foot shot just inside the post. Then all hell broke out. Villa's Ahmed El Ghazi was sent off for an alleged elbow on Leeds striker Patrick Bamford,… Read more

Heart Break At Elland Road With Dire Display

Leeds United 1 Wigan Athletic 2

What can only be described as an atrocious performance has seriously jeopardized Leeds's chances of automatic promotion. Marcelo Bielsa said he could offer "no explanation" as 10-man Wigan shocked Leeds at Elland Road in front of a massive crowd. Wigan were down to 10 men after 14 minutes when Cedric Kipre was sent off for handling on the line. Pablo Hernandez stepped up to hit the penalty but his effort came back off the post. However three minutes later Patrick Bamford put United ahead and with a numerical advantage the home crowd thought it was only a matter of how many goals would Wigan concede. How wrong they were though.

On 44 minutes Gavin Massey stunned the hosts with the equaliser after Alioski was caught out of position up the field following a counter attack from The Latics. Worse was to befall Leeds on… Read more

In Our Own Hands Now

Leeds United 1 Sheffield Wednesday 0

Leeds moved three points clear of third-placed Sheffield United in the race for promotion from the Championship with victory over Sheffield Wednesday. However the real story is Millwall's late equaliser at Bramall Lane in the 95th minute which means that now it's in our own hands with four games remaining to gain automatic promotion. It was a frustrating day for Leeds thanks to a superb performance from Irish International goalkeeper Keiran Westwood who seemed like he would stop marbles he was so inspired.

Thankfully Leeds's Jack Harrison side footed home the only goal on 65 minutes to easy the nerves of the home fans. Marcelo Bielsa's side dominated the game in terms of possession and chances against their Yorkshire rivals but as already said Keiren Westwood was having the game of his life for The Owls.

Two home games and two away to go so the… Read more

Bamford On The Double

Preston North End 0 Leeds United 2

Patrick Bamford's second-half double against 10-man Preston helped Leeds United move back up to second in the Championship for at least a few hours until Sheffield United play their game in hand. Bamford hit a wonderful 25-yard strike put Bielsa's boys in front on 62 minutes. Up to this point Leeds dominated in general play but were getting frustrated at not converting any of their opportunities.

However the game changed on 49 minute when Preston's Ben Pearson was sent off for bringing down Bamford as he went through on goal.
Defender Luke Ayling hit the post as Leeds searched for a second which came on 76 minutes. Once again Leeds top signing Bamford headed in a right-wing cross from Polish international Mateusz Klich to clinch the points for The Whites.

Back In The Game

Leeds United 3 Millwall 2

Not for the first time this season has Pablo Hernandez come to Leeds rescue and his double today moved Leeds back into the Championship's automatic promotion spots. They twice came from behind to beat struggling Millwall and thanks to Sheffield United's shock home defeat to Bristol City. The White's are back in second spot with seven cup finals remaining and the prize of a Premiership place for next season.

In a sea saw game Ben Thompson and a Ben Marshall penalty twice put Millwall ahead but they were pegged back by Hernandez's first and a Luke Ayling header. Patrick Bamford's first-half penalty horror miss did not prove costly as Hernandez hit the winner on 83 minutes following some scintillating football from the home side. It was not a game for the faint hearted among the 34,910 in attendance at Elland Road but what a three points.… Read more

Devestating Blow By The Blades

Leeds United 0 Sheffield United 1

This was being billed as the promotion game of the season as a win for either side would give them the advantage with eight games remaining. However unfortunately for Bielsa's side it turned into somewhat of a nightmare. Despite dominating possession they were toothless up front and our back four including the goalkeepers had day's not to remember.

The all important goal came on seventy one minutes when ex Leeds striker Billy Sharp capitalised on a slip by Liam Cooper and played in Chris Basham who slotted home from twenty yards. This was a hammer blow for the home side who did come close when forward Tyler Roberts hit the post with a curling shot from 15 yards. As Leeds continued to search for an equaliser disaster struck. Keeper Kiko Casilla was shown a straight red card in injury time for bringing down Sharp… Read more

Whites Shoot Down The Robin's

Bristol City 0 Leeds United 1

With Liam Cooper became only the 12th man to captain Leeds United for the 100th time it was a relieved Whites team who left Ashton Gate with a huge three points. With Sheffield United having won the lunch time kick off the pressure was on Bielsa's men to produce the goods and on nine minutes Bamford settled the nerves. He scored his fourth goal in as many games when he converted Luke Ayling's knockdown from close range.

Pablo Hernandez and Tyler Roberts both missed chances to make it 2-0 while Famara Diedhiou wasted City's best opportunity on the stroke of half-time. While the performance didn't near match that of the game vs The Baggies the three points see Leeds back in the automatic promotion spot with a tough week to come. On Tuesday night they are away to Reading and then on Saturday evening is the… Read more

Unbelieveable Performance From Leeds

Leeds United 4 West Bromwich Albion 0

The Baggies had won eight of their previous nine away games but came unstuck to a scintillating performance from a superb Leeds. Pablo Hernandez scored after just 16 seconds with a superb strike from 25 yards as The Whites put on the performance of the season. Anyone watching the game live on Sky Sports could not have but been majorily impressed as the blew away their Championship rivals.

On 28 minutes Leeds doubled their lead when Patrick Bamford showed brilliant skill to slot past Sam Johnstone following a through ball from ex Albion forward Tyler Roberts. Bamford was on the score sheet again on 63 minutes when his effort was deflected home off an Albion defender. The icing on the cake came in injury time when Ezgjan Alioski tapped home following an excellent cross from young Jamie Shackleton. Marcelo Bielsa's side move a point… Read more

Knocked Out By The R's

Queens Park Rangers 1 Leeds United 0

Once again Leeds went to Loftus Road and came away empty handed. On the 6th of January The Whites were knocked out of the FA Cup by the R's and 6 weeks later they stooped Leeds going back to the top of The Championship courtesy of Luke Freeman.
QPR ended a run of seven straight league defeats with Freeman hitting the winner on 49 minutes with a neat finish from close range.

Patrick Bamford and Stuart Dallas both brought excellent saves from R's goalkeeper Joe Lumley but as always despite oceans of possession Leeds couldn't find a way passed an excellent Rangers defence. London has not been a happy hunting ground for Leeds in the last few years and perhaps tonight they slightly underestimated the opposition given their recent poor run.

Not Pretty But Three Points

Leeds United 2 Bolton Wanderers 1

Leeds got off to a tonic start when Patrick Bamford put Bielsa's side in front from the spot on 16 minutes after Tyler Roberts was fouled in the box by Pawel Olkowski. However six minutes later The Trotters equalised when Mark Beevers forced a loose ball home after David Wheater's header from a corner was cleared off the line.

Leeds got the luck break the deserved on 68 minutes when Bolton keeper Remi Matthews misjudged Ezgjan Alioski's cross which flew over his head and into the net off the off the crossbar. To add insult to injury for Bolton their boss Phil Parkinson was sent to the stands after a incident on the touchline. In the end Leeds's eked out a result which is all that's required at this stage of the season.

Birthday Boy Pontus Put Leeds Back On Top

Leeds United 2 Swansea City

Leeds United's Swedish defender Pontus Jansson celebrated his 28th birthday with the opening goal at Elland Road and eased the early nerves at Elland Road. When Ezgjan Alioski's 12th minute shot was blocked he was on hand to fire into the bottom corner from 12 yards. Left back Alioski who started the season as a winger but has made this position his own recently was also the provider for Leeds second goal. His shot was parried by Swansea keeper Erwin Mulder on 34 minutes and Jack Harrison was on handed to head the rebound home.

It was a totally dominant showing from Biels's men with Swansea relying on David James who nearly joined Leeds in the January transfer window for an outlet up front. While he was very busy and has a fine turn of pace Leeds fans may not regret signing him on last… Read more

Late Late Show Earns Precious Point

Middlesbrough 1 Leeds United 1

A goal in the 11th minute of injury time gave Leeds a valueable point in their chase for promotion at The Riverside. When Jack Clarke took ill on the sideline the game was held up until he received medical attention and was then taken to hospital for tests. With the two sides drawing 0-0 at Elland Road last August it looked like a similar outcome was going to happen here after a dreadful first half. However two minutes after the break Wing showed excellent skill to place the ball past Kiko Casilla in the Leeds goal.

Kemar Roofe was twice denied by Boro's Irish International goalkeeper Randolph before Jansson glancing header hit the upright and former Boro striker Patrick Bamford skewed the rebound off target. Having totally dominated the possession stakes as has been the way for Leeds all season it looked like once again… Read more

Blown Away By The Canaries

Leeds United 1 Norwich City 3

Once again we have seen that oodles of possession and shots on goal count for nothing if you don't take your chances. Leeds are crying out for an out and out centre forward and with no in comings in the January transfer window we are going to struggle for an automatic place. Norwich City defended brilliantly , hit on the counter attack and produced a superb away performance to beat Leeds United at a packed Elland Road and go back top on goal difference. This was Leed's fourth defeat in their last six league games, all which they dominated on the possession stats but just can't convert the chances given to them. Oh boy we are really crying out for a Chris Woods up front.

Klich On The Double

Rotherham United 1 Leeds United 2

Polish International Mateusz Klich scored twice as Leeds came from behind to beat The Millers. Rotherham took the lead on 28 minutes with a stunning goal from Semi Ajayi. His rocket like shot from outside the box gave ex Real Madrid keeper Kiko Casilla no chance on his debut. Six minutes after the interval Leeds got back level when Klich stabbed home from close range following a mix up in the home defence.

With time running out Leeds got the vital break through on 86 minutes when Klich slotted in Jack Harrison's cross from 12 yards. When news from Carrow Road filtered through that Norwich had drawn with Sheffield United the Leeds fans in the away section of The New York Stadium went into full voice.
