Nketiah To The Rescue

Preston North End 1 Leeds United 1

It has been patently obvious this season that Leeds need an out and out strike to convert the huge amount of chances we create and what's also blatantly obvious is that Patrick Bamford is not that guy. Granted he puts in spades of work all over the field but his conversion rate from the chances he has are shocking. None more so that his effort from six yards this evening that was put on a plate for him but not surprisingly he missed the target by the proverbial mile.

The crowd were screaming for Eddie Nketiah our Arsenal loane to come off the bench but Bielsa didn't put him on until the 77th minute and in that short space of time he changed the game for Leeds. Nketiah looped a header into the net from a left-wing cross from Jack Harrisson on 87… Read more

Centenary Celebrations Marred By Away Fans

Leeds United 1 Birmingham City 0

Leeds celebrated their centenary at Elland Road with the biggest crowd of the season and more importantly three points with a hard fought victory over Birmingham. After a tight first half were Leeds dominated possession they took the lead on 65 minutes when Kalvin Phillip shot home from just inside the area after being set up by Jack Harrison. This was the goal the home crowd craved for and despite one late scare Bielsa's men held out for victory.

However the centenary game was marred by ugly scenes at full-time as Birmingham fans appeared to clash with stewards and police in the away end.
There was also trouble outside the ground and West Yorkshire Police made 11 arrests. Unfortunately this distracted from what should have been a day of celebration all round for Leeds fans which included a group of Ennislusc members.

More Woe At The Den For Leeds

Millwall 2 Leeds United 1

When Millwall manager Neil Harris resigned on Thursday after four years in charge this game suddenly took on a new lease of life for the home supporters. Leeds have very little joy in recent years on the road to London and new caretaker manager Adam Barrett was always going to have The Lions charged up for the visit of Championship favourites Leeds United. And they did not have to wait long as on 16 minutes took the lead when Jed Wallace converted a penalty after Gaetano Berardi was sent off when he was adjudged to have fouled Tom Bradshaw.

On the stroke of half time Millwall grabbed a second through Bradshaw with a neat back heel from Shane Ferguson's assist. Straight from the kick off Leeds pulled a goal back when Ezgjan Alioski tapped in Jack Harrison's cross. Try as they might Bielsa's side could not… Read more

Back On Top Even For A Day

Leeds United 1 West Bromwich Albion 0

For the first time this season Bielsa's team were dominated in the possession stakes but eked out a fantastic result to go back to the top of The Championship. This game was billed as the top of the table clash with two of the Championship heavyweights locking horns. Thanks to a superb defensive display from Leeds they go back to the top of the Championship even if it's only for a night. Swansea can go back on top if they beat Charlton at The Valley on Wednesday night.

Ezgjan Alioski deflective strike on 38 minutes ended West Brom's unbeaten start to the Championship season and was no more than their first half dominance merited. The left-back rifled into the bottom corner via a deflection from ex Leeds star Kyle Bartley after some neat hold-up play from Jack Harrison. Leeds were roared on by a… Read more

Valley Of Tears For Leeds Fans

Charlton Athletic 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds miserable run in London continued when they missed the chance to go top of the Championship at The Valley. Totally against the run of play Macauley Bonne scored a scrappy goal to condem Bielsa's team to their firstaway defeat of the season. Leeds keeper Kiko Casilla got his hands to Tom Lockyer's volley following a corner only for the ball to hit Bonne and roll agonizingly into the net. Certainly not a candidate for goal of the season but one that gave Charlton's manager great satisfaction against his old team not to mind an invalueable three points.

Leeds once again dominated possession (72 per cent)but hit the target with just four of their 19 attempts. Marcelo Bielsa's were denied a stoppage-time equaliser when Dillon Phillips made a superb save to deny Adam Forshaw from close range and now drop to fourth in the… Read more

Gut Wrenching Loss Of Points

Leeds United 1 Derby County 1

For the third time this season Leeds conceded in the closing stages of a Championship match to drop vital points. Derby had only one shot on target in the entire game and this came in the 91st minute to earn The Rams a point they scarcely deserved.
The home side wasted numerous chances to secure victory at Elland Road and conceded late on once again to drop points for the third time in four home league games. Derby had been outclassed for long periods before substitute Chris Martin rounded off a fine team move with a cool low finish past Kiko Casilla.

Max Lowe's unfortunate own goal on the 20th minute had given Leeds the perfect start but they could never get that elusive second goal to kill the game. They had a wonderful chance on 78 minutes to claim all three points but Mateusz Klich… Read more

Late Show Puts Leeds Top

Barnsley 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds United went top of the Championship thanks to late goals from substitute Eddie Nketiah and Mateusz Klich at Yorkshire rivals Barnsley. As is the usual scenario with Leeds they were dominating possession but not troubling The Tykes goal.
However when Bielsa brough on Arsenal loanee Nketiah with twenty minutes remaining he brough new life to the Leeds forward line. How he's not starting is beyond me but but if there is a fault with Bielsa is that he's reluctant to change his starting eleven.

On 84 minutes Nketiah got on the end of a Kalvin Phillips free-kick to send the away fans into ecstasy. The points were wrapped up on 89 minutes when Polish International Klich scored from the penalty spot with a cheeky effort. Patrick Bamford had two efforts saved by Barnsley's keeper Brad Collins as well as having an effort ruled out… Read more

Daylight Robbery

Leeds United 0 Swansea City 1

This was the first big test for Biels's Leeds this season, a top of the table clash with 35,000 packed into Elland Road. However once again The Whites disappointed as they were caught with a sucker punch on 90 minutes and The Swans went away with all three points. Dominating on the possession stakes, shots and corners stats but unfortunately we were firing blanks up front. This haunted us last season as we are not converting enough of the chances we are creating and things look no better this season.

Wayne Routledge struck in the 90th minute to maintain Swansea's unbeaten start under Steve Cooper and inflict Leeds first defeat of the season. Skipper Liam Cooper headed a corner against the frame of the goal just before half time before putting the rebound over. Leeds had other efforts from Bamford who sliced an effort wide and… Read more

No Tears Shead As Out Of Carabao Cup

Leeds United 2 Stoke City 2 ( Pen 4-5)

Stoke City advanced to the third round of the Carabao Cup with a penalty shootout win at Elland Road to make up for Saturday's loss to the same opposition. Leeds made eight changes from Saturday's starting 11 and were 2-0 down at half time. They got back in the game with goals from Nketiah on 67 minutes and Helder Costa on 81 minutes and with no extra time the game went to penalties.

Jack Harrison missed the decisive penalty for Leeds, his effort hitting the post after England goalkeeper Jack Butland had put the visitors 5-4 up with his spot kick. It's probably a blessing in disguise to be out of the cup as now Bielsa can concentrate fully on the league with promotion the aim.

The Potters Put To The Sword

Stoke City 0 Leeds United 3

Leeds produced a brilliant display at The bet365 Stadium to demolish a poor Stoke side in a one sided game which keeps them on top of the table. The first goal came on 42 minutes when Pablo Hernandez played a superb through ball to the on rushing Stuart Dallas who sided footed home. This was more than Leeds deserved for their dominant possession game and they added a second on 50 minutes when Alioski scored at the back post following a great ball by Patrick Bamford. He then got on the scoresheet on 66 minutes scoring after a shot by Alioski had been parried by Stoke keeper Federici.

In truth only for Federici the scoreline would certainly have been a lot kinder to Leeds for their excellent performance. Another clean sheet for Casilla and on loan Brighton defender Ben White continues to impress at… Read more

Nketiah Puts Leeds Top Of The Table

Leeds United 1 Brentford 0

On loan England U21 International from Arsenal Eddie Nketiah scored on his Championship debut to earn Leeds United a late but deserved win at home to Brentford. This put United back on top of The Championship on goal difference from Swansea. Ex United fan hero Pontus Jansson had an excellent game for The Bees and it looked as if they would hold out for a point until Bielsa's double substitution of Costa and Nketiah paid dividends. Costa raided down the right wing and crossed for Nketiah to tap home to send the home fans into ecs

Wolves loanee Costa was introduced with 25 minutes remaining and on this showing has to earn a starting spot. Leeds now have serious options on the bench something that will be need as the season goes on. Next up for Biels'a men is a trip to the bet365Stadium and a date… Read more

Bamford Finds His Scoring Touch

Wigan Athletic 0 Leeds United 2

Patrick Bamford finally found his mo jo and scored twice to put Leeds top and boast his confidence early in the season. The game changed dramatically on twenty one minutes when Joe Williams was sent off for a second bookable offence following a tackle on Bamford. Leeds took the lead on 34 minutes when Adam Forshaw's header came back off the post and Bamford was on hand to tap home.

United made the points safe on 66 mins with Bamford getting his second while Forshaw and Pablo Hernandez had chances to increase the winning margin. This was some compensation for Leeds who were beaten by Wigan at home last season after going a goal up and Wigan down to ten men. This was the day the wheels came off the wagon for Leeds and they lost the chance of gaining automatic promotion. Good start to… Read more

Thankfully No Banana Skin Moment For Leeds

Salford City 0 Leeds United 3

The sold out signs were up at the Peninsula Stadium for the visit of Leeds United for this first round televise clash in the Carabao Cup ( League Cup to those of us of an older vintage). The reason for this of course is that Saldord City FC is co-owned by six ex Manchester United players Phil Neville, Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham and businessman Perter Lim. Even Sir Alex Ferguson was in attendance to lend his support to his ex players.

However there was no fairy tail end for Salford despite a very bright start. On loan Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah scored just on half time on his Leeds United debut and looked a very good addition to the Leeds forward division. Swiss Internationale Gaetano Berardi doubled Leeds advantage with a deft flick from Helder Costa's corner 50… Read more

Points Thrown Away Once Again

Leeds United 1 Nottingham Forest 1

Lewis Grabban grabbed a point for Forest when his scrappy effort scraped over the line with their only effort on target. As was the case last season Leeds dominated possession but could not translate that into goals. And on the day a group from Ennislusc were in attendance for the first home game of the season to endure more agony. Once again Patrick Bamford was toothless up front and squandered a number of clear cut chances. Unless he starts firing up front and with Roofe departed it's hard to see us scoring the goals to take us up to The Premiership.

When Pablo Hernandez scored a cracking goal on 59 minutes it looked like Leeds were coasting to their second successive victory but as we all know being 1-0 always gives the other team hope. On 77 minutes Leeds failed to clear a Forest corner… Read more

Superb Start To New Season

Bristol City 1 Leeds United 3

Leeds began their Championship season in fantastic style with a superlative display at Ashton Gate against Bristol City. Always a tricky fixture and with the pressure of being favourites for promotion Leeds needed a good start and that's what they got. New signing Ben White on loan from Brighton was excellent at the back in place of cult hero Pontus Jansson now with Brentford.

Leeds took the lead on 26 mins which came Pablo Hernandez curled in a left foot drive from 20 yards into the top corner. He then created their second on 57 minutes crossing for Patrick Bamford to head home. Bielsa's boys put the result beyond doubt on 72 minute when Leeds winger Jack Harrison added a third from close range. Leeds were playing their trademark Bielsa style with high-pressing and high-intensity combined with some excellent passing movements.

The Robins pulled a goal… Read more

The Dream Begins Again

The Championship kicks off this weekend and Leeds have been installed as one of the favourites for automatic promotion. After our disappointing end to last season where our great run petered out over the last eight games culminating in a disastrous loss to Derby in the play off semi final at Elland Road positivity for the long suffering Leeds fans has returned. Record sales of 4,000 new away shirts in 24 hours shattering all previous record says the fans are digging deep for their team. This being The Centenary year the pressure is heightened on Bielsa and his team to finally get back to The Premiership.

Leeds have signed centre back Ben White from Brighton and have got winger Helder Costa on loan from Wolves which is an exceptional signing. Also the sale of Jack Clarke to Spurs was a terrible disappointment to Leeds fans but tha fact that he's been… Read more

Controversial First Leg Win For Leeds

Derby County 0 Leeds United 1

Leeds United have the advantage in the Championship play-off semi-final after a controversial if well deserved first-leg win over The Rams at Pride Park. Sharp shooter Kemar Roofe's 15th goal of the season was the difference between the teams. The all important goal came on 55 minutes when the forward producing an excellent first-time finish from Jack Harrison's brilliant pass from the left wing. As has been the case all season Leeds dominated possession but they lacked a cutting edge up front.

However the big talking point in the game came on 76 minutes when Derby were incensed when assistant referee Eddie Smart persuaded referee Craig Pawson to overturn his award of a penalty to them after Harrison had been adjudged to have fouled Jayden Bogle. Truthfully it was a very hard one to call as the free could have gone either way and the… Read more

Tractor Boys Add Insult To Injury For Leeds

Ipswich Town 3 Leeds United 2

Leeds United stuttered their way into the play-offs as relegated Ipswich picked up a rare victory at Portman Road Stadium. It was a game that Leeds could not afford to lose if West Bromwich Albion won away to Derby. If this was to happen United would be relegated to fourth place but luckily The Rams did us a big favour beating The Baggies to insure we finished third.

Leeds were a pale shadow of themselves and Collin Quaner grabbed a 90th-minute winner for the Championship's bottom club moments after they had been reduced to 10 men in the 79th minute.
Ipswich had earlier led twice through strikes from Flynn Downes and Andre Dozzell either side of goals from Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas.

Leeds spurned the chance for victory themselves when Kemar Roofe failed to convert a penalty awarded to him by a foul from Luke Chambers… Read more
