Saints Above We Were Dire Today

Southampton 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds who were missing six senior players including Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha produced their worst performance since Bielsa took charge and deservedly left St Mary's empty handed. The visitors had only two shots on goal in the entire game and this results leaves The Whites just one place above the relegation spots. Early days yet but certainly things would want to improve and fast.

On loan, Chelsea's Albanian International Armando Broja scoring a goal on his first Premier League start after being set up by Nathan Redmond eight minutes after half time and this proved to be the decisive score. It gave the Saints a deserved three points and none of the travelling Leeds supporters could complain with the result. Prior to scoring Broja glanced a header wide and flicking on a second that Mohamed Elyounoussi should have tucked away at the back post.

Happy 40th Birthday today to our great friend and Ennis Leeds United Supporter Club member Marty Brennan. It was on his 37th trip to Elland Road on 2nd October last that Marty finally got to see his beloved Leeds play in The Premiership. Prior to that he had been to 27 Championship and 9 League 1 games so Marty was well entitled to celebrate after the game with a few bevies. Ennislusc At Elland Road For The Hornets

Ennislusc was represented at Elland Road for the first time since Covid 19 restrictions were lifted when Marty Brennan, Mike and Stevie Jones and our esteemed Club President Seamus 0 Doherty were present to see The Whites finally get a win in the Premiership this season. It was also a chance for the lads to view the two stone plaques which the club purchased as part of the Centenary Square. The Centenary Square project celebrates all things Leeds United and pays homage to some of the greatest moments that help to define our wonderful club.

Ennislusc purchased two Premium stone plaques with one dedicated to our club Ennislusc while the other stone plaque is dedicated to all Ennislusc members past and present. This was a brilliant initiative by our Club Secretary Mike Jones and is now a must see for all Ennislusc members to view when they go to Elland… Read more

Finally Leeds Get Their First Win Of The Season

Leeds United 1 Watford 0

Leeds finally picked up their first victory in the Premier League this season when Spanish International Diego Llorente who was returning from injury scored the only goal in a game which the home side completely dominated. However once again we are finding it hard to translate our possession into goals and certainly the much maligned Patrick Bamford had been sadly missed since his ankle injury.

Llorente toe poked home from close range on eighteen minutes after a corner delivery bounced off Watford's Juraj Kucka at the back post.
Watford had a goal ruled out in the second half for a foul in the build-up after goalkeeper Illan Meslier's fumble almost proved costly and in truth we were extremely fortunate to get away with this as there seemed to be little to suggest a foul had taken place. Leeds fans were left biting their nails until the final… Read more

Leeds Not Crinical Enough At St James Park

Newcastle United 1 Leeds United 1

It was Leeds third draw of the season and although it is the first time they have gone five games without a win under Bielsa one has to take great encouragement from an excellent performance. The visitors should have been out of sight before The Magpies scored. Referee Mike Dean waved away a stonewall penalty for a foul on Daniel Janmes and in their match analysis all the Sky Sports TV pundits said they same.

Raphinha opened the scoring on thirteen minutes when his cross from out on the right wing was dummied by Rodrigo and deceived Karl Darlow in the Newcastle goal. The equalizer came a minute before the break when Saint-Maximi weaved his way across the area beating three Leeds defenders who should have done a lot better and gave Meslier no chance. Richie hit the post for Newcastle before the goal but… Read more

No Answers To Liverpool's Class

Leeds United 0 Liverpool 3

These are the games that the Elland Road faithful were looking forward to since returning to The Premiership and Covid restrictions lifted. However the saw their beloved Whites well out played by a very determined Liverpool side who certainly will have a say in this years title destination. The game started brightly for Leeds when after five minutes on the clock Rodrigo missed a glorious chance from 15 yards. Egyptian forward Salah scored his 100th Premiership goal to put Liverpool ahead on 20 minutes when perfectly placed to tap in Trent Alexander-Arnold's brilliant low cross. However Liverpool had a gilt edge chance some minutes later but Mane scooped over the bar from point-blank range.

Leeds held firm until HT but lost influential centre back Diego Llorente through injury just after the half hour mark to be replaced by Patrick
Struijk. On the hour mark things took… Read more

Bamford Caps A Dream Week With Late Equaliser

Burnley 1 Leeds United 1

Patrick Bamford finished off a dream week with a late equaliser at Turf Moor to gain Leeds a valueable away point. It look like ex Leeds striker Chris Wood earned The Clarets all three points when tapping home Matthew Lowton's shot from close range. However with four minutes remaining Bamford, who earned his first England call-up this week just days after signing a new long-term contract, scrambled in Jamie Shackleton's effort much to the delight of the travelling supporters.

Two points from the opening three games may not look very encouraging but considering two of them were against teams with expectations of a top four finish, we'll take the points and move on. Mind you up next is a monumental challenge at Elland Road with Liverpool the visitors. Bring it on !

Fans Rock Elland Road After 532 Days Away

Leeds United 2 Everton 2

Elland Road welcomed a full house to the famed stadium in the club's first home Premier League where fans were allowed to attend following last year's Covid 19 restrictions. And what a thriller the fans witnessed. Raphinha who was recently called up to the Brazilian squad came to Leeds rescue with a wonderful curling strike on 72 minutes. Last season he scored home and away against The Toffees so hopefully a few fans had him backed to score over the 90 minutes although I expect the odds would be very short.

Leeds came from behind twice in a pulsating game. England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave Everton a first-half lead with a penalty awarded via VAR with Liam Cooper adjudged to have pulled him back. If the roles had been reversed and Bamford was tackled in this way the home crowd would be baying for a penalty… Read more

Chastening Day At Old Trafford For Leeds

Manchester United 5 Leeds United 1

For a team whose league record at Old Trafford is desperately poor (Leeds have not won here since 1981)and who conceded six in the corresponding fixture last season this opening fixture of the season was always going to be a huge task for Bielsa and co and so it proved. United played Leeds at their own game and continued with a high tempo high press game which had Leeds on the back foot for the opening half hour. Talk about playing Bielsa at his own game plan !

This was the Bruno Fernandes show as the Portuguese International gave a stunning display in scoring an opening-day hat-trick. He got a helping hand from Paul Pogba who assisted with four goals and went off to a well deserved standing ovation on 75 mins to be replaced by new signing Jadon Sancho. Fernandes opened the scoring on… Read more

Premiership Season Kicks Off At Old Trafford

If you were to write the script for Leeds first game of the season you would dearly love to see one of the top four teams coming to Elland Road especially with the fans back in the stadium after Covid 19 but unfortunately we have to travel to our deadliest rivals across The Pennines. First up is Man United and considering the baptism of fire we received there last season when beaten 6-2 we have a huge debt to owe them and our fans. We did have a goalless draw at Elland Road in the return fixture but this is a seriously difficult game to start our season.

Other than our new left back from Barcelona Junior Firpo we will not have any new squad members available for selection. All summer we are hearing that the club is looking for a central midfield player but to date while been linked… Read more

Fitting End To An Excellent Season

Leeds United 3 West Bromwich Albion

What a season for our beloved Whites. Not in our wildest dreams could we have envisage winning our four remaining games to complete an unbelievable first season back in The Premiership since the 2003/2004 season. This was the first time that Leeds fans could enter Elland Road for a Premiership game due to the lockdown. The lucky 8,000 fans created a superb atmosphere on a day when they said goodbye to two Leeds legends in Pablo Hernandez and Gaetano Beradi. On loan Jack Harrison ( hopefully Leeds will make this movepermanent in the summer )had an early strike ruled out for offside but Leeds did take the lead on 17 minutes. And it came from our most expensive ever signing Rodrigo who headed in Raphinha's corner.

England international Kalvin Phillips doubled the advantage with his first Premier League goal three minutes before half time beating… Read more

Leeds March On Past The Saints

Southampton 0 Leeds United 2

Leeds completed their away fixture programme at St Mary's with a brilliant second half display to guarantee a top ten finish in their first year back in the top division. Biels's side have won 10 or more away games in a single top-flight campaign for the first time since 1973-74 when they won 12 on the way to winning the title. Crowds were back for the first time in 14 months and it seemed to invigorate both sides to have them back. Patrick Bamford's scored his 16th Premier League goal of the season in what has been a truly wonderful season for him and all his team mates.

In a poor first half where Leeds hadn't a shot on goal The Saints could have taken the lead when Theo Walcott rounded Casilla who is replacing Meslier for the last two games of the season but the… Read more

Harrison And Rodrigo On Fire For Leeds

Burnley 0 Leeds United 4

Leeds turned in what was perhaps their best performance of the season despite starting each half sluggishly but their finishing as Burnley manager Sean Dyche said is his post match briefing to the press was clinical. Bamford went close midway through the half but he found ex teammate and Northern Ireland goalkeeper Peacock-Farrell in fine form. Then two minutes before the half time whistle Polish International Mateusz Klich curled in a beautiful effort from outside the box as Leeds hit The Clarets on the break.

This seemed to spur the home side on who started the second half in excellent form and Matej Vydra was thwarted by the outstretched leg of Illan Meslier from what looked a certain equaliser. Then on the hour mark Jack Harrison's flicked home with his back to goal from Ezgjan Alioski's strike. It looked on first showing that the ball… Read more

Back To Their Attacking Best

Leeds United 3 Tottenham Hotspur 1

What a brilliant response from Bielsa's team after their poor performance away to Brighton last week. Leeds became the first side to remain unbeaten at home in the Premier League against each of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham in a season since West Ham in 2015-16, and only the third newly promoted side to do so, after Ipswich Town in 2000-01 and Birmingham City in 2009-10. We couldn't have dreamed at these results at the start of the season but this Leeds team keeps surprising and delighting everyone.

Northern Ireland International Stuart Dallas who has been a revelation this season gave Leeds the lead on 13 minutes with his eighth league goal of the season scoring from close range after Lloris had parried a shot. However twelve minutes later Son Heung-min equalising with a brilliant finish after from a Dele Alli… Read more

Tired Leeds Succumb To The Seagulls Once Again

Brighton & Hove Albion 2 Leeds United 0

Leeds have lost five consecutive away league games against The Seagulls without scoring for the first time in their history. They have now lost their last five visits to Brighton by an aggregate score of 11-0. Leeds looked a tired team and without Kalvin Phillips lacked that drive in midfield while Brighton were in dire need of the points to steer clear of the relegation zone and were well up for the game. It was without doubt The Whites worst performance of the season and The Seagulls have now done the double over Bielsa's men in The Premiership.

Leeds were well off it in attack landing only two shots on target while Patrick Bamford managed just 15 touches before being replaced after an hour.Brighton got off to a great start at the Amex Stadium when on 14 minutes Pascal Gross found the… Read more

Adapting Leeds Stifle The Reds

Leeds United 0 Manchester United 0

This was a game that Leeds fans were looking forward to since the fixtures were released last June but unfortunately due to the ongoing issues with Covid 19 no fans were permitted at Elland Road. One can only imagine what the atmosphere would have been like in a sell out ER with Leeds taking on their fiercest rivals. In the early season fixture at Old Trafford Leeds got off to a terrible start being two down after five minutes and eventually going down 6-2. However on this occasion we saw a different Leeds team which was more focused on man to man marking than on the gung ho type of football they have become know for since Bielsa took charge. Leeds had only six shots in this match, their joint-fewest in a league game at Elland Road under Marcelo Bielsa since July 2020 when… Read more

Leeds Dent Liverpool's Champions League Aspiration

Leeds United 1 Liverpool 1

On a night when Leeds supporters protested outside Elland Road with the news that Liverpool and five other Premiership teams ( Chelsea, Man United, Man City, Spurs and Arsenal ) where in the throws of signing up to a new European Super League it was the Leeds players themselves who performed heroically on the field and showed why The Premiership is the best league in the world with a brilliant performance particularly in the 2nd half. Inside the stadium Leeds players wore T-shirts saying 'Earn it' next to the Champions League logo and 'Football is for the fans'. There was also a banner behind one goal which had the same message and the same T-shirts were left in the Liverpool dressing room much to the annoyance of Jurgen Klopp.

This incident seemed to ignite Liverpool into life and they were much the dominant team in… Read more

A Day Leeds Fans Will Cherish Forever

Manchester City 1 Leeds United 2

This has to go down as one of the most historic wins for any Leeds United team against the star studded and runaway leaders of The Premiership. Throw in the fact that Leeds played with ten men for all the second half which included six minutes of injury time, had two shots on goal with a return of two goals to City's 29 shots then this was truly an epic win. Leeds had played well in the first half and Bamford was unlucky not to convert Tyler Roberts cross which just went behind him as he seemed destined to tap it home. It was in the five minuets before half time that this game took on a different complexion and which was to set up a defy at all odds performance from a brilliant Leeds team.

Northern Ireland International and one of Leeds… Read more

London Hoodoo Is Over

Fulham 1 Leeds United 2

Another milestone for Bielsa was achieved on Friday night as Leeds finally won away in London for the first time in 17 games in all competitions. The previous occasion The Whites won in the capital was a 3-1 win at Queens Park Rangers. Leeds started the game in a whirlwind fashion and had two goals disallowed in the first half. Luke Ayling brilliant header was ruled out by the video assistant referee as Tylor Roberts top part pf his shoulder was deemed offside when crossing the ball into the area and then when Raphinha was rightly called offside before slotting home.

However on the 29 minute Patrick Bamford gave England manager Gareth Southgate something to think about after he left him out of the squad for the first World Cup qualifying games when smashing home from six yards. Fulham were level on 38 minutes when… Read more
