Jorginho Double Penalties Denies Leeds A Point

Chelsea 3 Leeds United 2

A superb performance from a depleted Leeds team were denied a deserved point when Chelsea were awarded a 94th minute penalty to claim all three points. Without captain Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Kalvin Phillips,Robin Koch and Patrick Struijk this was always going to be a tough ask for Leeds but in truth they were not found wanting and performed heroically.

Raphinha put Bielsa's side ahead on 28 minutes with the game's first penalty. Thia was awarded for a mistimed tackle by Marcos Alonso's on Daniel James but three minutes before the interval The Blues were level. England International Mason Mount met Alonso's pass with a brilliant first-time finish to beat a static Meslier at his near post.

Chelsea were awarded their first spot-kick before the hour mark after referee Chris Kavanagh reviewed Raphinha's sliding challenge on Antonio Rudiger. It was a stupid scissors tackle… Read more

Thankfully For Bamford's Late Intervention

Leeds United 2 Brentford 2

After eleven weeks out with injury star forward Patrick Bamford came off the bench in the 68th minute and scored the equalize for the home side in the fifth minute of injury time. Now that's what you call a comeback to send the full house crowd at Elland Road home happy. Welsh International Tyler Roberts put the hosts in front on 27 minutes when steering home Raphinha's cross. The much maligned forward was making his 100th appearance for Leeds and this was the perfect response to the doubters in the crowd.

Full back Luke Ayling who like Bamford was returning to the side after more than two months out almost doubled the lead just after half time. His header from Raphinha's free-kick was destined for the top corner only for Alvaro Fernandez to deny him with an acrobatic save. However two quick fire goals from… Read more

Late Late Drama At Elland Road

Leeds United 1 Crystal Palace 0

Bielsa's side snatched a dramatic late late win over The Eagles thanks to an injury-time penalty from top scorer Raphinha. Leeds were awarded a 91st-minute penalty when Palace defender Marc Guehi was adjudged to have handled the ball following a Raphinha corner which was headed goal wards by captain Liam Cooper. The decision was confirmed after a Video Assistant Referee check and referee Kevin Friend watching the incident on a pitch-side screen. It was a dream finish for the home side in front of a full house as the win takes them up to 15th in the table and 5 points off the bottom three.

Palace should have taken the lead on 81 minutes w but substitute Christian Benteke headed wide from inside the six-yard box with a goal at his mercy.
The luckless Benteke also had another chance late on when he got his… Read more

Daylight Robbery

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds came away with one of the most unlikely but most welcome points at the American Express Community Stadium when they were second best throughout the ninety plus minutes and had Illan Meslier to thank for some tremendous saves. The Seagulls hit the woodwork three times with Illan Meslier tipping Leandro Trossard's shot on to the upright and Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder rifled the ball against the outside of the post. Late on Solly March's effort struck the post and I'm sure
Brighton boss Graham Potter was scratching his head and wonder what they had to do to score.

In a shock move from Bielsa, he took off Kalvin Phillips at half-time for tactical reasons. While it seemed strange to one and all the Whites did secure a most unworthy point so for all intense purposes the tactic worked from The Boss. Leeds… Read more

Remembering Spinky

On Saturday night last the White family made a presentation of a signed Leeds United jersey to Moroney's Bar home to the Ennis Leeds United Supporter Club ( Ennislusc.com) in remembrance of Frankie ( Spinky ) White who was an ex- President of Ennislusc. Spinky as he was known to one and all was a passionate Leeds United supporter who was on numerous club trips to Elland Road and was always the life and soul of the party. He loved all sports especially a flutter on the horses but when it came to Leeds United well he was in his element.

Woe betide any non-Leeds United supporter who vented a smart remark to him while he was watching them play live on Sky Sports in Moroney's as the slagging one would receive in return would have the place in laughter. One of his greatest Leeds United highlights was meeting the Leeds… Read more

Game Of Two Halves

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Leeds United 1

This was a superb first half display from Bielsa's side with Spurs failing to manage a single shot on target in a dire opening half for Conte's side. Leeds opened the scoring on 44 minutes when Welsh International Daniel James tapped in Jack Harrison's superb cross from the left wing. There were boos from the home fans as they left the pitch for the break, but Conte's side were a much improved outfit after the restart.Harry Kane who was anonymous in the first half hit the post with a shot and Song Heung had an effort deflected on to the crossbar.

The equaliser came on 58 minutes when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg curled into the far corner after good work by Lucas Moura. The Spurs turnaround was complete in the 69th minute when Eric Dier's free-kick deflected off the wall and onto the post but left back… Read more

Raphinha On Target Once Again

Leeds United 1 Leicester City 1

Ennislusc were once again represented at Elland Road when John Brooks and his two sons Alan and Gary were in attendance to see The Whites grab a deserved point against the Brendan Rodgers managed Foxes. It was that man again Raphinha who deservedly put the home side in front on twenty six minutes when his free-kick from out near the touchline caught out Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel at his far post. It was the forwards fifth strike of the season which means he has now scored more than 45 per cent of Leeds goals in the league this campaign. A damning statistic on our other forwards contributions and shows how much we miss in the much maligned and injured Patrick Bamford.

Unfortunately the lead lasted mere seconds as from the kick off Leicester scored. Straight from the off Harvey Barnes received the ball on the… Read more

Uninspiring Performance But Great Three Points

Norwich City 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds travelled to Carrow Road knowing that a win was vital to climb away from the bottom three and they can count themselves very lucky to come away with all three points. This was a poor performance from Bielsa's side against The Canaries who are now without a win in ten Premiership games.

After a forgetful first half,it took a piece of individual brilliance from new Brazilian International Raphinha to open the scoring on 56 minutes. He dribbled past three players to fire in the bottom corner after being picked out by Dan James who was providing his first assist since joining from Manchester United. However the lead lasted only two minutes when Norwich defender Andrew Omobamidele headed home from a corner needlessly conceded by keeper Illan Meslier.

Leeds restored their advantage on the hour mark through Rodrigo's long-range effort which bounced in front of keeper… Read more

Farewell Dear Spinky

This afternoon the sad news filtered through that our great friend, colleague and ex-President of Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club Frankie White had gone to his eternal rest. Known to one and all as Spinky he was loved by young and old for his charm and wit. On trips to Elland Road he would take all the young brigade under his wing, guide them on where to go and to always remember they were representing our club while there. He took great pride when elected President of Ennislusc particularly as he followed in the footsteps of his late great friend Mike McNamara. A true football follower he was heavily involved with the great St Michael's team of the late 70's and 80's while also taking up various positions with the Clare Soccer League.

There are many stories one could recall about Spinky but the one that comes to mind is… Read more

Ennislusc Members Witness Dream Finale

On Saturday last seven members of Ennislusc travelled to Elland Road for the Wolves game and boy did they witness some dramatic finish to the Premiership game. The travelling party comprised of Kevin Barry, Richie Lynch, Brian Woods, Paul Harte , David O Grady and the two birthday boys celebrating their 40th Marty Brennan and Paudie Carmody. An equalizing goal in the 94th minute certainly had the stadium rocking and all the lads said that the atmosphere was the best they have ever experienced at ER. As Kevin Barry put it so well " One of the best atmospheres I've ever been at in Elland Road, relentless noise fully behind the team. Stadium shook when the penalty was given and SCORED ".

Even David O Grady who is a Toffee supporter first and foremost but has travelled to Elland Road on numerous occasions with Ennislusc had to conceded that the… Read more

The Late Late Show

Leeds United 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1

Leeds salvaged a very precious point in the 94 minute when most of the home supporters in a crowd of 36,475 must have thought this was yet another home defeat. Rodrigo kept his nerve to send Malheiro de Sa the wrong way from the penalty spot to send the home crowd which included seven members of Ennislusc in raptures. The introduction of 19-year-old Joe Gelhardt just after the hour proved an inspired move by Marcelo Bielsa and it was he that won the penalty with a brilliant run into the area before been taken down by Nelson Semedo.

Prior to this the former Wigan forward brought a superb save out of Jose Sa and he certainly has enhanced his chances of more appearance for the first team on this display. Wolves took the lead on ten minutes when Semedo skipped past Jack Harrison's poor effort at… Read more

Saints Above We Were Dire Today

Southampton 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds who were missing six senior players including Patrick Bamford, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha produced their worst performance since Bielsa took charge and deservedly left St Mary's empty handed. The visitors had only two shots on goal in the entire game and this results leaves The Whites just one place above the relegation spots. Early days yet but certainly things would want to improve and fast.

On loan, Chelsea's Albanian International Armando Broja scoring a goal on his first Premier League start after being set up by Nathan Redmond eight minutes after half time and this proved to be the decisive score. It gave the Saints a deserved three points and none of the travelling Leeds supporters could complain with the result. Prior to scoring Broja glanced a header wide and flicking on a second that Mohamed Elyounoussi should have tucked away at the back post.

Happy 40th Birthday Marty B

Happy 40th Birthday today to our great friend and Ennis Leeds United Supporter Club member Marty Brennan. It was on his 37th trip to Elland Road on 2nd October last that Marty finally got to see his beloved Leeds play in The Premiership. Prior to that he had been to 27 Championship and 9 League 1 games so Marty was well entitled to celebrate after the game with a few bevies. Best Wishes from all your friends at Ennislusc Marty, have a wonderful day.

Happy Birthday Paudie

Today our great Lissycasey Gael Paudie Carmody celebrates his 40th birthday and all his friends at Ennislusc would like to wish him a day full of laughter and happiness and a year that brings you much success. Paudie is a big fan of the maroon strip that Leeds donned last season for some away days as it's also the strip of his home club who he's still know to tog out for when the call comes. Ennislusc At Elland Road For The Hornets

Ennislusc was represented at Elland Road for the first time since Covid 19 restrictions were lifted when Marty Brennan, Mike and Stevie Jones and our esteemed Club President Seamus 0 Doherty were present to see The Whites finally get a win in the Premiership this season. It was also a chance for the lads to view the two stone plaques which the club purchased as part of the Centenary Square. The Centenary Square project celebrates all things Leeds United and pays homage to some of the greatest moments that help to define our wonderful club.

Ennislusc purchased two Premium stone plaques with one dedicated to our club Ennislusc while the other stone plaque is dedicated to all Ennislusc members past and present. This was a brilliant initiative by our Club Secretary Mike Jones and is now a must see for all Ennislusc members to view when they go to Elland… Read more

Finally Leeds Get Their First Win Of The Season

Leeds United 1 Watford 0

Leeds finally picked up their first victory in the Premier League this season when Spanish International Diego Llorente who was returning from injury scored the only goal in a game which the home side completely dominated. However once again we are finding it hard to translate our possession into goals and certainly the much maligned Patrick Bamford had been sadly missed since his ankle injury.

Llorente toe poked home from close range on eighteen minutes after a corner delivery bounced off Watford's Juraj Kucka at the back post.
Watford had a goal ruled out in the second half for a foul in the build-up after goalkeeper Illan Meslier's fumble almost proved costly and in truth we were extremely fortunate to get away with this as there seemed to be little to suggest a foul had taken place. Leeds fans were left biting their nails until the final… Read more

Leeds Not Crinical Enough At St James Park

Newcastle United 1 Leeds United 1

It was Leeds third draw of the season and although it is the first time they have gone five games without a win under Bielsa one has to take great encouragement from an excellent performance. The visitors should have been out of sight before The Magpies scored. Referee Mike Dean waved away a stonewall penalty for a foul on Daniel Janmes and in their match analysis all the Sky Sports TV pundits said they same.

Raphinha opened the scoring on thirteen minutes when his cross from out on the right wing was dummied by Rodrigo and deceived Karl Darlow in the Newcastle goal. The equalizer came a minute before the break when Saint-Maximi weaved his way across the area beating three Leeds defenders who should have done a lot better and gave Meslier no chance. Richie hit the post for Newcastle before the goal but… Read more

No Answers To Liverpool's Class

Leeds United 0 Liverpool 3

These are the games that the Elland Road faithful were looking forward to since returning to The Premiership and Covid restrictions lifted. However the saw their beloved Whites well out played by a very determined Liverpool side who certainly will have a say in this years title destination. The game started brightly for Leeds when after five minutes on the clock Rodrigo missed a glorious chance from 15 yards. Egyptian forward Salah scored his 100th Premiership goal to put Liverpool ahead on 20 minutes when perfectly placed to tap in Trent Alexander-Arnold's brilliant low cross. However Liverpool had a gilt edge chance some minutes later but Mane scooped over the bar from point-blank range.

Leeds held firm until HT but lost influential centre back Diego Llorente through injury just after the half hour mark to be replaced by Patrick
Struijk. On the hour mark things took… Read more

Bamford Caps A Dream Week With Late Equaliser

Burnley 1 Leeds United 1

Patrick Bamford finished off a dream week with a late equaliser at Turf Moor to gain Leeds a valueable away point. It look like ex Leeds striker Chris Wood earned The Clarets all three points when tapping home Matthew Lowton's shot from close range. However with four minutes remaining Bamford, who earned his first England call-up this week just days after signing a new long-term contract, scrambled in Jamie Shackleton's effort much to the delight of the travelling supporters.

Two points from the opening three games may not look very encouraging but considering two of them were against teams with expectations of a top four finish, we'll take the points and move on. Mind you up next is a monumental challenge at Elland Road with Liverpool the visitors. Bring it on !

Fans Rock Elland Road After 532 Days Away

Leeds United 2 Everton 2

Elland Road welcomed a full house to the famed stadium in the club's first home Premier League where fans were allowed to attend following last year's Covid 19 restrictions. And what a thriller the fans witnessed. Raphinha who was recently called up to the Brazilian squad came to Leeds rescue with a wonderful curling strike on 72 minutes. Last season he scored home and away against The Toffees so hopefully a few fans had him backed to score over the 90 minutes although I expect the odds would be very short.

Leeds came from behind twice in a pulsating game. England striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave Everton a first-half lead with a penalty awarded via VAR with Liam Cooper adjudged to have pulled him back. If the roles had been reversed and Bamford was tackled in this way the home crowd would be baying for a penalty… Read more
