Shocker At Anfield

Liverpool 6 Leeds United 0

Another disastrous result for Leeds and the writing is certainly on the wall now that we are serious relegation candidates. Bielsa's side have conceded 56 goals this season, the highest number in the Premier League with 31 coming in the past nine matches. You don't need to be Einstein to figure out our defending is dire but we have used 15 starting centre back partnerships and of course long term injuries to Bamford, Phillips and Cooper certainly haven't helped our cause.

Mo Salah who has 19 Premiership goals to his credit this season opened the scoring on 15 minutes from the spot after Stuart Dallas handled inside the box. On thirty minutes Salah's pass allowed center-back Matip to double the lead with a brilliant finish and five minutes later it was 3-0. Sadio Mane was fouled inside the area by Luke Ayling and Salah scored… Read more

Same Old Story Atrocious Defending

Leeds United 2 Manchester United 4

This was the first Premier League encounter in the Battle Of The Roses since October 2003 and once again the Lancashire giants came out on top Manchester United were in complete control after captain Harry Maguire headed in Luke Shaw's corner on 34 minutes. To add insult to injury five minutes into first half added time Bruno Fernandes did the same from top summer signing Jadon Sancho's cross.

Leeds upped the anti at the start of the second half were level with two goals inside a minute as Rodrigo's 53rd-minute cross drifted in behind keeper David de Gea and then substitute Raphinha sent Elland Road into raptures when he slid home a cross from Daniel James. Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick then made changes and these certainly paid dividends as both substitutes scored. Fred scored on 70 minutes when he drove in at Illan… Read more

Disaster At Goodison

Everton 3 Leeds United 0

New Everton manager Frank Lampard described The Toffees performance as "special" as he claimed his first Premier League win with his new club. In truth Leeds were dire and were overrun from the kick off. Irish International and Everton captain Seamus Coleman scored the opener on ten minutes tapping in a rebound from Donny van de Beek's cross. Thinks got worse for Bielsa's side on twenty three minutes when Michael Keane headed home. Goodison Park was rocking and although Rodrigo hit the crossbar with two long range shots for Leeds they were the only bright spots in an otherwise poor afternoon for The Yorkshire men.

Anthony Gordon added a third on 78 minutes for the home side as the strolled to victory. Worrying times for Leeds and with Manchester United and Spurs up next for them it certainly looks like they are in a major… Read more

Thrills, Spills And A Six Goal Thriller

Aston Villa 3 Leeds United 3

Without doubt the game of the season to date in The Premiership for the fans but a roller coaster one for us passionate Leeds supporters. In a classic game of football played at breakneck speed with two attack-minded sides traded blow after blow one couldn't look away for a minute with the excitement. Leeds got off to a superb start when on nine minutes Daniel James swerved superbly in the box to shoot low into the bottom corner beyond a diving Martinez. He had a chance twenty minutes later to make it 2-0 to the away side but his superb shot from outside the area crashed against the crossbar. This was a costly miss as one minute later Villa were back on level terms.

Villa's new signing Philippe Coutinho came into his own then when scoring one and setting up young Jacob Ramsey for… Read more

Meslier Howler

Leeds United 0 Newcastle United 1

After a superb away result in London vs West Ham , Leeds came crashing back down to earth with a terribly disappointing loss to The Magpies. Once again it showed up how badly we feel the loss of Patrick Bamford as we have no real goal scoring threat up front to convert the numerous opportunities we create. However in this case it was a shocking mistake by goalkeeper Illan Meslier
that cost The Whites at least a well deserved point.

On 75 minutes Diego Llorente conceded a needless free twenty yards and to Meslier's left as he looked out from his goal line. Newcastle's talisman Jonjo Shelvey stepped up and sent in a dipping shop that bounced up and over a divining Meslier. Everyone in the ground was shocked to set the net bulge and give Eddie Howe and Newcastle only their second win… Read more

Hat Trick For Jack Harrison

West Ham United 2 Leeds United 3

It was a day in the career of Jack Harrison that he's going to remember for the rest of his days as his hat trick sealed a brilliant victory for Leeds away to The Hammers. A week earlier at the same venue in the FA Cup 4th round David Moyes's side were victorious on a 2-0 scoreline but on this occasion they were undone by a rampant Leeds. Already decimated with injuries Leeds lost midfielder Adam Foreshaw after 22 minutes and a minute late left back Firpo went off with a similar hamstring injury. They were replaced by teenagers Lewis Bates and Leo Hjelde who both went on to have excellent games.

On ten minutes Leeds took the lead when Klich's stinging shot was parried by West Ham keeper Fabianski and Jack Harrison was the beneficiary as he fired Adam Forshaw's knock-back into… Read more

Three Glorious Points

Leeds United 3 Burnley 1

Leeds ended a three loss running streak with a brilliant start to the New Year in what many were terming a six pointer game given how both teams are hovering near the relegation zone. Jack Harrison opened the scoring on 39 minutesa when squeezing an effort inside the near post after Wayne Hennessy saved the winger's initial strike.

Ivory Coast international Maxwel Cornet's brilliant free-kick on 54 minutes levelled for Burnley but the celebrations were soured when Matt Lowton was hit in the face with a bottle thrown from the crowd. Obviously this has serious repercussions for Leeds who must locate the culprit and given him a life time ban. Those days are long behind us.

This score rattled the home side but with thirteen minutes remaining Stuart Dallas found the corner with a well-placed left-footed effort. Two minutes into injury time the Leeds fans could… Read more

Gunned Down By Arteta's Boys

Leeds United 1 Arsenal 4

Injury hit Leeds were over ran by a dominant Arsenal who could have scored thre or four more but for the heroics of goalkeeper Ilian Meslier.
For Leeds, the defeat caps a difficult week that has included a last-gasp defeat at Chelsea and a 7-0 hammering at Manchester City. Leeds crippling injury list which has now robbed boss Marcelo Bielsa of 10 players and had 15 year old Archie Gray on the bench were under the cosh straight from the kick off.

Two goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka's deflected effort made it 3-0 before half-time as The Gunners capitalised on an error-strewn Leeds performance. Raphinha pulled one back from the penalty spot in the second half before Arsenal substitute Emile Smith Rowe wrapped up an emphatic victory for Mikel Arteta's side late on. The scoreline could have been greater but for an impressive… Read more

Shattering Defeat For Bielsa And Co

Manchester City 7 Leeds United 0

Manchester City tore Leeds apart with an attacking masterclass in what was an embarrassing day at The Ethied for Bielsa and his team. In truth City could have had far more than their seven goals such was their total dominance and a make shift Leeds defence. Leeds took four points from The Champions last season but they were never in this game from the kick off.

England International Phil Foden opened the scoring after eight minutes although Stuart Dallas should have done far better with his attempted goal-line clearance. Five minutes later Riyad Mahrez cross from the right wing was headed home by Jack Grealish. On 32 minutes Man Of The Match
Kevin de Bruyne scored with a trade mark shot into the corner of Meslier net. The second half had barely kicked off when Mahrez made it 4-0 with a low shot that… Read more

Jorginho Double Penalties Denies Leeds A Point

Chelsea 3 Leeds United 2

A superb performance from a depleted Leeds team were denied a deserved point when Chelsea were awarded a 94th minute penalty to claim all three points. Without captain Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Rodrigo, Kalvin Phillips,Robin Koch and Patrick Struijk this was always going to be a tough ask for Leeds but in truth they were not found wanting and performed heroically.

Raphinha put Bielsa's side ahead on 28 minutes with the game's first penalty. Thia was awarded for a mistimed tackle by Marcos Alonso's on Daniel James but three minutes before the interval The Blues were level. England International Mason Mount met Alonso's pass with a brilliant first-time finish to beat a static Meslier at his near post.

Chelsea were awarded their first spot-kick before the hour mark after referee Chris Kavanagh reviewed Raphinha's sliding challenge on Antonio Rudiger. It was a stupid scissors tackle… Read more

Thankfully For Bamford's Late Intervention

Leeds United 2 Brentford 2

After eleven weeks out with injury star forward Patrick Bamford came off the bench in the 68th minute and scored the equalize for the home side in the fifth minute of injury time. Now that's what you call a comeback to send the full house crowd at Elland Road home happy. Welsh International Tyler Roberts put the hosts in front on 27 minutes when steering home Raphinha's cross. The much maligned forward was making his 100th appearance for Leeds and this was the perfect response to the doubters in the crowd.

Full back Luke Ayling who like Bamford was returning to the side after more than two months out almost doubled the lead just after half time. His header from Raphinha's free-kick was destined for the top corner only for Alvaro Fernandez to deny him with an acrobatic save. However two quick fire goals from… Read more

Late Late Drama At Elland Road

Leeds United 1 Crystal Palace 0

Bielsa's side snatched a dramatic late late win over The Eagles thanks to an injury-time penalty from top scorer Raphinha. Leeds were awarded a 91st-minute penalty when Palace defender Marc Guehi was adjudged to have handled the ball following a Raphinha corner which was headed goal wards by captain Liam Cooper. The decision was confirmed after a Video Assistant Referee check and referee Kevin Friend watching the incident on a pitch-side screen. It was a dream finish for the home side in front of a full house as the win takes them up to 15th in the table and 5 points off the bottom three.

Palace should have taken the lead on 81 minutes w but substitute Christian Benteke headed wide from inside the six-yard box with a goal at his mercy.
The luckless Benteke also had another chance late on when he got his… Read more

Daylight Robbery

Brighton & Hove Albion 0 Leeds United 0

Leeds came away with one of the most unlikely but most welcome points at the American Express Community Stadium when they were second best throughout the ninety plus minutes and had Illan Meslier to thank for some tremendous saves. The Seagulls hit the woodwork three times with Illan Meslier tipping Leandro Trossard's shot on to the upright and Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder rifled the ball against the outside of the post. Late on Solly March's effort struck the post and I'm sure
Brighton boss Graham Potter was scratching his head and wonder what they had to do to score.

In a shock move from Bielsa, he took off Kalvin Phillips at half-time for tactical reasons. While it seemed strange to one and all the Whites did secure a most unworthy point so for all intense purposes the tactic worked from The Boss. Leeds… Read more

Remembering Spinky

On Saturday night last the White family made a presentation of a signed Leeds United jersey to Moroney's Bar home to the Ennis Leeds United Supporter Club ( Ennislusc.com) in remembrance of Frankie ( Spinky ) White who was an ex- President of Ennislusc. Spinky as he was known to one and all was a passionate Leeds United supporter who was on numerous club trips to Elland Road and was always the life and soul of the party. He loved all sports especially a flutter on the horses but when it came to Leeds United well he was in his element.

Woe betide any non-Leeds United supporter who vented a smart remark to him while he was watching them play live on Sky Sports in Moroney's as the slagging one would receive in return would have the place in laughter. One of his greatest Leeds United highlights was meeting the Leeds… Read more

Game Of Two Halves

Tottenham Hotspur 2 Leeds United 1

This was a superb first half display from Bielsa's side with Spurs failing to manage a single shot on target in a dire opening half for Conte's side. Leeds opened the scoring on 44 minutes when Welsh International Daniel James tapped in Jack Harrison's superb cross from the left wing. There were boos from the home fans as they left the pitch for the break, but Conte's side were a much improved outfit after the restart.Harry Kane who was anonymous in the first half hit the post with a shot and Song Heung had an effort deflected on to the crossbar.

The equaliser came on 58 minutes when Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg curled into the far corner after good work by Lucas Moura. The Spurs turnaround was complete in the 69th minute when Eric Dier's free-kick deflected off the wall and onto the post but left back… Read more

Raphinha On Target Once Again

Leeds United 1 Leicester City 1

Ennislusc were once again represented at Elland Road when John Brooks and his two sons Alan and Gary were in attendance to see The Whites grab a deserved point against the Brendan Rodgers managed Foxes. It was that man again Raphinha who deservedly put the home side in front on twenty six minutes when his free-kick from out near the touchline caught out Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel at his far post. It was the forwards fifth strike of the season which means he has now scored more than 45 per cent of Leeds goals in the league this campaign. A damning statistic on our other forwards contributions and shows how much we miss in the much maligned and injured Patrick Bamford.

Unfortunately the lead lasted mere seconds as from the kick off Leicester scored. Straight from the off Harvey Barnes received the ball on the… Read more

Uninspiring Performance But Great Three Points

Norwich City 1 Leeds United 2

Leeds travelled to Carrow Road knowing that a win was vital to climb away from the bottom three and they can count themselves very lucky to come away with all three points. This was a poor performance from Bielsa's side against The Canaries who are now without a win in ten Premiership games.

After a forgetful first half,it took a piece of individual brilliance from new Brazilian International Raphinha to open the scoring on 56 minutes. He dribbled past three players to fire in the bottom corner after being picked out by Dan James who was providing his first assist since joining from Manchester United. However the lead lasted only two minutes when Norwich defender Andrew Omobamidele headed home from a corner needlessly conceded by keeper Illan Meslier.

Leeds restored their advantage on the hour mark through Rodrigo's long-range effort which bounced in front of keeper… Read more

Farewell Dear Spinky

This afternoon the sad news filtered through that our great friend, colleague and ex-President of Ennis Leeds United Supporters Club Frankie White had gone to his eternal rest. Known to one and all as Spinky he was loved by young and old for his charm and wit. On trips to Elland Road he would take all the young brigade under his wing, guide them on where to go and to always remember they were representing our club while there. He took great pride when elected President of Ennislusc particularly as he followed in the footsteps of his late great friend Mike McNamara. A true football follower he was heavily involved with the great St Michael's team of the late 70's and 80's while also taking up various positions with the Clare Soccer League.

There are many stories one could recall about Spinky but the one that comes to mind is… Read more

Ennislusc Members Witness Dream Finale

On Saturday last seven members of Ennislusc travelled to Elland Road for the Wolves game and boy did they witness some dramatic finish to the Premiership game. The travelling party comprised of Kevin Barry, Richie Lynch, Brian Woods, Paul Harte , David O Grady and the two birthday boys celebrating their 40th Marty Brennan and Paudie Carmody. An equalizing goal in the 94th minute certainly had the stadium rocking and all the lads said that the atmosphere was the best they have ever experienced at ER. As Kevin Barry put it so well " One of the best atmospheres I've ever been at in Elland Road, relentless noise fully behind the team. Stadium shook when the penalty was given and SCORED ".

Even David O Grady who is a Toffee supporter first and foremost but has travelled to Elland Road on numerous occasions with Ennislusc had to conceded that the… Read more

The Late Late Show

Leeds United 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers 1

Leeds salvaged a very precious point in the 94 minute when most of the home supporters in a crowd of 36,475 must have thought this was yet another home defeat. Rodrigo kept his nerve to send Malheiro de Sa the wrong way from the penalty spot to send the home crowd which included seven members of Ennislusc in raptures. The introduction of 19-year-old Joe Gelhardt just after the hour proved an inspired move by Marcelo Bielsa and it was he that won the penalty with a brilliant run into the area before been taken down by Nelson Semedo.

Prior to this the former Wigan forward brought a superb save out of Jose Sa and he certainly has enhanced his chances of more appearance for the first team on this display. Wolves took the lead on ten minutes when Semedo skipped past Jack Harrison's poor effort at… Read more
