Errors And Madness See Leeds Gunned Down

Arsenal 0 Leeds United 0

In a game that Leeds needed to take at least a point to stay out of the relegation's zone they conjured up an ill-disciplined display starting with a calamitous error by goalkeeper Illian Meslier for Arsenals opener at only five minutes.
Luke Ayling playing in his 500th league game and captain for the day played a back pass to Meslier who dallied on the ball and Eddie Nketiah pounced on the keepers loose touch to open the scoring. Five minutes late The Gunners doubled their advantage when ex Leeds loanee Mketiah side footed home without a defender in sight.

Things when from bad to disasterous on 27 minutes when a ridiculous two footed tackle by Luke Ayling on the end line on Gabriel Martinelli saw him see red following VAR intervention. There was no doubt it deserved a red card all day long and a shocking… Read more

The Sky Blues Outclass The Whites To Go Back Top

Leeds United 0 Manchester City 4

This was always going to be an extremely difficult game for The Whites against one of the top club sides in Europe and so it proved to be. There was no same involved as Leeds gave it their all but sometimes you have to hold your hand up and say we were outclassed as was the case at Elland Road today. City produced the perfect response to Premier League title rivals Liverpool by outclassing Leeds United to go back on top of The Premiership.

Reigning Premier League champions City went ahead in the 13th minute when Rodri glanced home Phil Foden's free-kick and from here on to the finish it was damage limitations for the hone side. Nine minutes after the break City scored from another set-piece when Nathan Ake pouncing from close range when Foden's corner was headed down by Ruben Dias. Foden… Read more

Precious Point At Selhurst Park For Leeds

Crystal Palace 0 Leeds United 0

In a game that most Leeds fans were watching with one eye closed and one open, The Whites held on for a hard earned point against a very determined Eagles side. Leeds United moved five points clear of the Premier League relegation zone following a fiercely contested goalless draw at Crystal Palace. In a game that had a few ill timed tackles one especially from Leeds forward Dan James which was a borderline red card it was Wilfried Zaha who came closest to scoring. However his powerful shot was expertly held by Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier who certainly was The Whites best player on the night.

England midfielder Conor Gallagher who came very close to signing on loan for Leeds in pre season but choose to stay in London from parent club Chelsea fired a half-volley narrowly over the crossbar from the edge of… Read more

Congratulations Captain Eoin

On the 6 December last at Dundalk Golf Club Ennislusc member Eoin Doohan was honored as the new Club Captain for 2022. Eoin is an exceptional golfer who honed his craft on the fairways of Ennis Golf Club and has played in the South Of Ireland Championship at Lahinch on numerous occasions. Last weekend Eoin hosted a golf outing and dinner at Dundalk Golf Club and invited many of his friends which included Ennislusc members Paul Nihill, Enda Howard , Cyril Corry and club President Seamus O'Doherty.

Needless to say they were treated royally by Eoin and had a wonderful time. Thankfully Leeds United managed to gain a valuable point in their quest for Premiership survival as the boys were on the fairways so that insured a shout or two of Marching On Together. All his friends at Ennislusc congratulate Eoin on this prestigious appointment and wish him well in… Read more

We'll Gladly Take A Point

Leeds United 1 Southampton 1

With Liam Cooper coming back after injury to the heart of the Leeds defence there was a lot of optimism at Elland Road as The Saints came marching in. The Whites were bright in the early stages and took the lead on 29 minutes through Jack Harrison who has been brilliant since the turn of the year. Raphinha was the provider when beating the defence before chipping into the box where Harrison was there to turn home at close range.

Four minutes into the second half Kyle Walker-Peters was fouled near the edge of the Leeds box by Luke Ayling. Unfortunately for the home side Southampton have in England midfielder James Ward-Prowse one of the best free kick specialists in The Premiership. He duly stepped up and left Meslier helpless with a cracking effort. Leeds brought on Kalvin Phillips to steady the ship and in… Read more

Back From The Brink

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Leeds United 3

You just couldn't write the script ! Luke Ayling scored an injury-time winner as Jesse Marsch boys came back from two goals down to beat 10-man Wolves in a unbelievable game at Molineux. This was a superb result given how poorly Leeds have being playing recently and this win moves them seven points clear of the relegation zone with eight games remaining. The big turning point came eight minutes into the second half when Raul Jimenez's was red carded ( second bookable offence)for a foul on Leeds keeper Meslier which necessitated him being substituted. In fairness 21 year old Kristoffer Klaesson who was making his Premiership debut went on to have a blinder making three fantastic saves which won the game for The Whites.

Meslier became the fourth Leeds player to be replaced because of injury, joining the the only recently returned Patrick Bamford… Read more

Get The Defibrillator After That Finish

Leeds United 2 Norwich City 1

Ennislusc were well represented at Elland Road today when Paudie Carmody, his son Cathal, Tommy Kelly, John Clayton and Ross Divorty were in attendance for the game that could decide our faith in The Premiership this season. And boy what a game did they witness particularly the last four minutes where it was hearts in the mouth time for the Leeds faithful. The Whites certainly don't make life easy for their die hard supporters and this must win game against The Canaries says it all. Despite dominating proceedings, getting an early goal we were still clinging on as the game entered injury time. In the first minute of injury time Norwich's top scorer Pukki's long diagonal ball into the six-yard box was blazed home by McLean.

Except for the Norwich supporters in the 36,321 attendance who were in delirium with the late equaliser Elland… Read more

Hanging On By A Thread

Leeds United 0 Aston Villa 3

Two games in charge for new Leeds boss Jesse Marsch, two defeats, four goals conceded and no goals scored is grim reading. However the manner of last nights defeat to Villa was shocking as we had only one shot on target and in truth the scoreline could have been a lot worse. Leeds have now lost 15 Premier League games, have the worst defensive record in the division and now bar a miracle look like heading back to The Championship. The Leeds United felt his players looked "chained by the pressure" but to most Leeds supporters they looked clueless and last nights performance whatever way you sugar coat it was abysmal.

Villa opened the scoring on 22 minutes when Coutinho side footed home although the shot did take a deflection of Struijk to leave Meslier stranded. Leeds came out in a determined fashion after… Read more

Ger Kenneally RIP

It was with deep sadness that news filtered through on Wednesday morning last that our great friend and fellow Ennislusc member Gerard ( Ger) Kenneally had gone to his eternal rest. Ger was a passionate Leeds United supporter who was on many trips with the club to Elland Road in the company of his great friends Jim Ryan and Kevin Greene. Although based in Celbridge, Ger never forgot his beloved Banner County and loved talking about the fortunes of the Clare hurlers and footballers. Any time you met Ger at a Clare game be it in Cusack Park, Thurles or Croke Park he was proudly wearing the saffron and blue.

When down in Clare he would call into Moroney's when Leeds featured on Sky Sports and catch up with his many friends including those he played against on the soccer fields of the county. Ger was an excellent full back with… Read more

New Manager Inspires But Fifth Defeat In A Row

Leicester City 1 Leeds United 0

Leeds who sacked Bielsa after the disastrous defeat at home result to Spurs at the weekend ( much it must be said to the disappointment of the majority of Leeds fans who adored the Agrentinian for what he achieved for the club)had new American manager Jesse Marsch in charge but the result was a fifth successive defeat. However this was a game The Whites deserved at least a point and looked a lot more water tight at the back which pleased supporters no end.

It has been an emotional week for Leeds since the departure of Marsch's much-loved predecessor Marcelo Bielsa following a month in which the Yorkshire club conceded 20 goals and picked up only one point from a possible 15. This was an improvement on paper and considering Marsch had only three days training with the players was a huge lift to… Read more

Can It Get Any Worse For Bielsa & Co

Leeds United 0 Tottenham Hotspur 0

What a disaster at ER ! This was a shocking display in front of a full house where Leeds lacked fight and desire. On this showing we are heading for relegation unless miracles are on the horizon. Spurs took the lead on ten minutes when Ryan Sessegnon broke clear down the left and delivered a perfectly cross for Irish International Matt Doherty to sweep home. Five minutes later Dejan Kulusevski scored a second for the visitors and Harry Kane ghosted in behind Llorente to make it 3-0 before thirty minutes were on the clock.

Leeds showed up better in the second half but one suspects Spurs sat back as the points were in the bag after the opening half. On 85 minutes Son Heung-min latched on to Kane through ball and beat Illan Meslier with a smart finish. A dreadful day for Leeds and… Read more

Shocker At Anfield

Liverpool 6 Leeds United 0

Another disastrous result for Leeds and the writing is certainly on the wall now that we are serious relegation candidates. Bielsa's side have conceded 56 goals this season, the highest number in the Premier League with 31 coming in the past nine matches. You don't need to be Einstein to figure out our defending is dire but we have used 15 starting centre back partnerships and of course long term injuries to Bamford, Phillips and Cooper certainly haven't helped our cause.

Mo Salah who has 19 Premiership goals to his credit this season opened the scoring on 15 minutes from the spot after Stuart Dallas handled inside the box. On thirty minutes Salah's pass allowed center-back Matip to double the lead with a brilliant finish and five minutes later it was 3-0. Sadio Mane was fouled inside the area by Luke Ayling and Salah scored… Read more

Same Old Story Atrocious Defending

Leeds United 2 Manchester United 4

This was the first Premier League encounter in the Battle Of The Roses since October 2003 and once again the Lancashire giants came out on top Manchester United were in complete control after captain Harry Maguire headed in Luke Shaw's corner on 34 minutes. To add insult to injury five minutes into first half added time Bruno Fernandes did the same from top summer signing Jadon Sancho's cross.

Leeds upped the anti at the start of the second half were level with two goals inside a minute as Rodrigo's 53rd-minute cross drifted in behind keeper David de Gea and then substitute Raphinha sent Elland Road into raptures when he slid home a cross from Daniel James. Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick then made changes and these certainly paid dividends as both substitutes scored. Fred scored on 70 minutes when he drove in at Illan… Read more

Disaster At Goodison

Everton 3 Leeds United 0

New Everton manager Frank Lampard described The Toffees performance as "special" as he claimed his first Premier League win with his new club. In truth Leeds were dire and were overrun from the kick off. Irish International and Everton captain Seamus Coleman scored the opener on ten minutes tapping in a rebound from Donny van de Beek's cross. Thinks got worse for Bielsa's side on twenty three minutes when Michael Keane headed home. Goodison Park was rocking and although Rodrigo hit the crossbar with two long range shots for Leeds they were the only bright spots in an otherwise poor afternoon for The Yorkshire men.

Anthony Gordon added a third on 78 minutes for the home side as the strolled to victory. Worrying times for Leeds and with Manchester United and Spurs up next for them it certainly looks like they are in a major… Read more

Thrills, Spills And A Six Goal Thriller

Aston Villa 3 Leeds United 3

Without doubt the game of the season to date in The Premiership for the fans but a roller coaster one for us passionate Leeds supporters. In a classic game of football played at breakneck speed with two attack-minded sides traded blow after blow one couldn't look away for a minute with the excitement. Leeds got off to a superb start when on nine minutes Daniel James swerved superbly in the box to shoot low into the bottom corner beyond a diving Martinez. He had a chance twenty minutes later to make it 2-0 to the away side but his superb shot from outside the area crashed against the crossbar. This was a costly miss as one minute later Villa were back on level terms.

Villa's new signing Philippe Coutinho came into his own then when scoring one and setting up young Jacob Ramsey for… Read more

Meslier Howler

Leeds United 0 Newcastle United 1

After a superb away result in London vs West Ham , Leeds came crashing back down to earth with a terribly disappointing loss to The Magpies. Once again it showed up how badly we feel the loss of Patrick Bamford as we have no real goal scoring threat up front to convert the numerous opportunities we create. However in this case it was a shocking mistake by goalkeeper Illan Meslier
that cost The Whites at least a well deserved point.

On 75 minutes Diego Llorente conceded a needless free twenty yards and to Meslier's left as he looked out from his goal line. Newcastle's talisman Jonjo Shelvey stepped up and sent in a dipping shop that bounced up and over a divining Meslier. Everyone in the ground was shocked to set the net bulge and give Eddie Howe and Newcastle only their second win… Read more

Hat Trick For Jack Harrison

West Ham United 2 Leeds United 3

It was a day in the career of Jack Harrison that he's going to remember for the rest of his days as his hat trick sealed a brilliant victory for Leeds away to The Hammers. A week earlier at the same venue in the FA Cup 4th round David Moyes's side were victorious on a 2-0 scoreline but on this occasion they were undone by a rampant Leeds. Already decimated with injuries Leeds lost midfielder Adam Foreshaw after 22 minutes and a minute late left back Firpo went off with a similar hamstring injury. They were replaced by teenagers Lewis Bates and Leo Hjelde who both went on to have excellent games.

On ten minutes Leeds took the lead when Klich's stinging shot was parried by West Ham keeper Fabianski and Jack Harrison was the beneficiary as he fired Adam Forshaw's knock-back into… Read more

Three Glorious Points

Leeds United 3 Burnley 1

Leeds ended a three loss running streak with a brilliant start to the New Year in what many were terming a six pointer game given how both teams are hovering near the relegation zone. Jack Harrison opened the scoring on 39 minutesa when squeezing an effort inside the near post after Wayne Hennessy saved the winger's initial strike.

Ivory Coast international Maxwel Cornet's brilliant free-kick on 54 minutes levelled for Burnley but the celebrations were soured when Matt Lowton was hit in the face with a bottle thrown from the crowd. Obviously this has serious repercussions for Leeds who must locate the culprit and given him a life time ban. Those days are long behind us.

This score rattled the home side but with thirteen minutes remaining Stuart Dallas found the corner with a well-placed left-footed effort. Two minutes into injury time the Leeds fans could… Read more

Gunned Down By Arteta's Boys

Leeds United 1 Arsenal 4

Injury hit Leeds were over ran by a dominant Arsenal who could have scored thre or four more but for the heroics of goalkeeper Ilian Meslier.
For Leeds, the defeat caps a difficult week that has included a last-gasp defeat at Chelsea and a 7-0 hammering at Manchester City. Leeds crippling injury list which has now robbed boss Marcelo Bielsa of 10 players and had 15 year old Archie Gray on the bench were under the cosh straight from the kick off.

Two goals from Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka's deflected effort made it 3-0 before half-time as The Gunners capitalised on an error-strewn Leeds performance. Raphinha pulled one back from the penalty spot in the second half before Arsenal substitute Emile Smith Rowe wrapped up an emphatic victory for Mikel Arteta's side late on. The scoreline could have been greater but for an impressive… Read more

Shattering Defeat For Bielsa And Co

Manchester City 7 Leeds United 0

Manchester City tore Leeds apart with an attacking masterclass in what was an embarrassing day at The Ethied for Bielsa and his team. In truth City could have had far more than their seven goals such was their total dominance and a make shift Leeds defence. Leeds took four points from The Champions last season but they were never in this game from the kick off.

England International Phil Foden opened the scoring after eight minutes although Stuart Dallas should have done far better with his attempted goal-line clearance. Five minutes later Riyad Mahrez cross from the right wing was headed home by Jack Grealish. On 32 minutes Man Of The Match
Kevin de Bruyne scored with a trade mark shot into the corner of Meslier net. The second half had barely kicked off when Mahrez made it 4-0 with a low shot that… Read more
