Moving On Up Thank Goodness

Leeds United 2 Nottingham Forest 1

In what was the most important game of the season for Leeds they came out on top after going a goal down to earn a fantastic three points and climb out of the relegation places. In a tense six-pointer at Elland Road, Forest took the lead on 12 minutes through Orel Mangala. Luke Ayling must hold his hand up here as he gave away the penalty at The Emitates on Saturday and once again was at fault here in not closing down quick enough. Backed up by a crowd of 36,740 Leeds roared back into the game eight minutes later much to the relief of ther home supporters. Jack Harrison who has been on fire over the last four games following up to shoot home after ex Real Madrid keeper Keylor Navas could only parry Marc Roca's shot from outside the box.

Gunned Down At The Emirates

Arsenal 4 Leeds United 1

Leeds manager Javi Gracia left what one would call some certain first team members on the bench for the visit to top of the table Arsenal. It was obvious he'd an eye on what surely is a six point home game to Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening next and didn't expect to get a result at The Emirates which it proved.
Leeds had created the better opportunities in the opening half hour of the game with Rasmus Kristensen, Crysencio Summerville and Jack Harrison all testing home keeper Aaron Ramsdale. However on 35 minutes Luke Ayling's mistimed challenge on Gabriel Jesus had referee Darren England pointing to the spot and the Brazilian dusted himself down and gave Meslier no chance.

Two minutes into the second half ex Leeds United loanee Ben White smashed home Gabriel Martinelli's low cross via the underside of the crossbar and the… Read more

Cracking Game And Superb Three Points

Wolverhampton Wanderers 2 Leeds United 4

In what can only be termed as an unbelievable game Leeds climbed out of the bottom three with a superb win at The Molineux Stadium. In an ironic twist of faith the scoreline was the same as last season on the same day the game was played, Leeds had three of the same scorers and Wolves had a man sent off as in the corresponding fixture. Leeds got off to a fantastic start after just six minutes when Jack Harrison side-footed Wilfried Gnonto's cross past Wolves keeper Jose Sa. Leeds doubled their advantage four minutes into the second half when an unmarked Luke Ayling who hasn't scored in The Premiership since the corresponding game last season beat Sa with a low header from two yards.

On 62 minutes Leeds made it 3-0 when substitute Rasmus Kristensen who had only been on the field for twenty… Read more

Lucky Point Keeps Us Afloat

Leeds United 2 Brighton & Hove Albion 2

Spurred on by a raucous home crowd Leeds twice came from behind to earn a valuable point in their quest for Premiership survival. Unfortunately with other results going against them The Whites are now sitting second from bottom but there is only five points separating seven teams above them so all to play for yet. On 33 minutes World Cup winner Alexis McAllister put The Seagulls in fronm after Japan International Kaoru Mitoma nodded Pascal Gross cross back across for him to head home at his ease.

Leeds were back level seven minutes later when Patrick Bamford's shot from 20 yards took a slight deflection off Adam Webster to dip over Jason Steele and in off the underside of the bar. It was against the run of play but certainly lifted the home supporters. Just on the stroke of half time McAllister… Read more

Relegation Is Now A Stark Reality

Chelsea 1 Leeds United 0

With Chelsea in a dismal run of form having only won two of their previous 15 games the Leeds faithful traveled to Stamford Bridge with some optimism. Unfortunately once again they put in a dismal performance and were dominated all over the pitch. The Blues made a superb start and could have been 3-0 up inside the first 30 minutes. German International Kai Havertz was one-on-one with Leeds keeper Illan Meslier, while Joao Felix smashed a shot against the crossbar and left back Ben Chilwell toe poked wide when it looked easier to score.

Once again Patrick Bamford was missing due to injury and record signing Georgino Rutter took his place but to little effect. While our defending may have improved we just can't find the net and one has to accept that relegation is now a stark reality. On 53 minutes Chelsea deservedly took… Read more

The Fight Begins To Stay In The Premiership

Leeds United 1 Southanpton 0

Leeds moved out of the Premier League relegation zone as Junior Firpo's second-half goal gave them a crucial 1-0 victory over bottom club The Saints in Javi Gracia's first game as manager. What a start to his tenure at Elland Road but in fairness it was a lucky result so let's no be kidding ourselves. We have a monumental task ahead of us but now with a new manager in situ we have a chance of survival.

The all important score came on 77 minutes when Junior Firpo the most maligned left back in The Premiership gave The Whites the lead. It was a scruffy goal aided by a deflection but what a valuable three points for Leeds. Leeds a first win in the league since 5th of November and takes them to 22 points, a point and a position above 18th-placed Everton in the… Read more

Gracia New Leeds Manager

Leeds United have appointed former Watford boss Javi Gracia as their new manager. Gracia replaces Jesse Marsch who was sacked on Feb 6th following seven games without a win in the Premier League.
"Leeds United are delighted to announce the club have agreed terms with Javi Gracia to become men's first team head coach, subject to obtaining a work permit," a club statement read. The club also confirmed that the Spaniard has agreed to sign a "flexible contract."

Leeds have since failed to win in three subsequent games under the caretaker charge of Michael Skubala are now 19th in the table ahead of Saturday's game against Southampton. Gracia, 52, has been out of work since leaving Al Sadd last year. He has also managed Malaga, Rubin Kazan and Valencia. During his time at Watford, he led them to the 2019 FA Cup final, which they lost 6-0 to Manchester City.

Shoching Result Puts Us In Relegation Threat

Everton 1 Leeds United 0

The Toffees deservedly collected a significant victory over fellow relegation struggle Leeds United in what was a must win game for both teams.
Everton offered the more potent threat in the first half at Goodison Park and centre-back James Tarkowski's towering header was pushed away by Leeds keeper Meslier. Unfortunately The Whites offered nothing going forward in the final third and this proved to be their undoing.

The defining goal of the game came on 64 minutes when Irish International Seamus Coleman scored the winning goal. Leeds keeper Illian Meslier must hold his hand up as he was expecting a cross when in fact Coleman shot from goal from the most acute angle. Whether he meant it or not it doesn't matter as it nestled in the net and sent the home fans into delirium. It was a shocking performance from Leeds and no surprise… Read more

United's Touch Of Class Wins The Day

Leeds United 0 Manchester United 2

Four days on from their previous meeting the Battle Of The Roses came to Elland Road with Leeds still manager less. Leeds started brightly in a cagey first half but it was the visitors would nearly scored on the stroke of half time. Meslier produced an excellent save with his feet to deny Bruno Fernandes and from the subsequent corner, the ball bounced off Luke Ayling and narrowly wide of the far post with Rashford inches away from converting. There was controversy off the pitch in the first half with derogatory chants from both sets of fans which no doubt the Premier League chiefs will certainly look into. The chants about the Munich Air Disaster and the murders in 2000 of two Leeds fans in Istanbul were traded between the rival fans.

United were fortunate not to concede early in the second half when Crysencio… Read more

Gnonto Lights Up Old Trafford

Manchester United 2 Leeds United 2

After the sacking of Marsch two days previously this was the last game Leeds wanted or needed but it had been rescheduled following the World Cup.
Leeds had not won a league game at Old Trafford since 1981 and prior to kick-off many of our fans were wondering what the margin of defeat would be rather than the possibility of securing a rare result. Coaches Michael Skubala, Paco Gallardo and Chris Armas who was appointed as Marsch's assistant just last week took charge of the team.
After one minute those very Leeds fans who thought they were in for a drubbing suddenly found themselves in dreamland.

Italian teenager Gnonto raced down the wing in the first-minute to the edge of the area before burying his shot in the bottom corner beyond a stranded De Gea. You couldn't write away for a start but all… Read more

Marsch Sacked

Leeds have finally bite the bullet and sacked manager Jesse Marsch after less than a year in charge. No one can't say it hasn't been coming as the results have been disastrous and Sunday's loss to Nottingham Forest was their seventh Premier League game without a win. Leeds are presently 17th in the table, above the relegation zone only on goal difference and last won in the Premier League on 5 November. Wins vs Liverpool and Chelsea only papered over the cracks and kept Marsch in a job.

It was always going to be a hard job following Bielsa but to be in the job less than a year and get the door tells it's own story. A club statement read: "We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future. The process of appointing a new head coach is under… Read more

Disastrous Result Must Signal The End For Marsch

Nottingham Forest 1 Leeds Unite 0

Leeds failed to win for the seventh successive time but against a fellow relegation threatened struggler this is simply a disastrous result especially given we were at home. Forest signed 29 players since the start of last summer but it was former Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas who was only signed in the last week that was the difference between both sides. He is the oldest goalkeeper to make his debut in The Premiership at 36 years of age but for his outstanding display he walked away with the Man Of The Match award.

He made super first-half saves from Wilfried Gnonto, Luke Ayling and Luis Sinisterra while in their only attack Forest scored on 14 minutes. Leeds failed to clear a free kick and the ball was thumped home by Welsh International Brennan Johnson. Once again it was poor defending as no Leeds… Read more

Same Old Story Can't Convert Chances

Leeds United 0 Brentford 0

Leeds United's winless run in the Premier League extended to six games as once again the failed to score despite numerous chances. Brentford goalkeeper David Raya made several good saves as the home side desperately looked to get the three points. Fans are certainly getting frustrated with Jesse Marsch and one suspects that his time at Elland Road is teetering on a tight rope.

Teenage Italian International Wilfried Gnonto looks a real prospect for Leeds on the wing and he brings the crowd to life every time he's on the ball. The Bees failed to produce a shot on target and extend their unbeaten record to eight successive games which will certainly please their manager Thomas Frank. It's a point and a clean sheet but we are dropping down the table like a stone in water. Time for change me think !

Daylight Robbery

Aston Villa 2 Leeds United 1

If ever Leeds deserved to win a game it was certainly this one as the pummeled Villa on their home pitch but came away pointless after two breakaway goals from the home side gave Unai Emery's side the points. Leeds boss Jesse Marsch said it was his side's "best performance" in his 11 months in charge but alas no points only plaudits. VAR played it's part with Leeds forward Rodrigo denied a goal following it's intervention while it ruled in Villa's favour when Buendia scored what proved to be the winner on 64 minutes.

After only three minutes play and following a Leeds corner Villa scored on the counter attack in what proved to be their only shot on goal in the opening 45 minutes. A super counter run by Boubacar Kamara following Ashley Young's clearance following a Leeds corner by Harrison saw him cross… Read more

Gnonto Shines But Only A Point

Leeds United 2 West Ham United 2

The Hammers came to Elland Road on a run of five consecutive defeats and on the day that their joint Chairman David Gold had passed away. David Moyes was looking for a big reaction from his team but it was the home side who got off to the better start. Teenage Italian international forward Wilfried Gnonto put The Whites ahead on 27 minutes when he hammered the ball home from 15 yards. Unfortunately a minute into injury time Lucas Paqueta levelled with a well-taken penalty after VAR had intervened following Pascal Struijk's foul on England international Jarrod Bowen.

Jesse Marsch's side hoped for a good start to second have but fell behind after less than a minute when Gianluca Scamacca punished Brenden Aaronson's wayward pass to shoot home from 25 yards. With twenty minutes remaining Rodrigo beat Lukasz Fabianski with a low shot for… Read more

Brilliant Meslier Gains A Super Point For Leeds

Newcastle United 0 Leeds United 0

A superb performance from goalkeeper Illan Meslier gained an invaluable point for The Whites at a packed St James's Park where The Magpies were looking for their seventh win in a row. Manager Eddie Howe bemoaned the chances Newcastle squandered but it was a defiant performance from a much maligned Leeds defence backed up by goalkeeper Meslier that secured a point. Newcastle offered almost all the attacking threat and dominated all the stats without finding the net. One would hope that this will set up Leeds for a home game against West Ham on Wednesday evening when even at this time of the year is a sure six point fixture.

Sean Longstaff blazed over from inside the area in the second half but otherwise Newcastle relied on set pieces from England defender Kieran Tripper for their best chances. Meslier spread himself brilliantly to make… Read more

Blue Moon City Dominate At Elland Road

Leeds United 1 Manchester City

This game was always going to be a big ask to get anything from it against a super City side who came to Elland Road with Earling Haaland spear heading the attack. Erling who was returning to the city of his birth became the fastest player to reach 20 Premier League goals and in all honesty he was unluck not to complete his hat trick. In fairness to him he didn't celebrate the goals both of which came from assists from Jack Grealish who was a constant thorn in the home side.

He could not miss for his first on 51 minutes, set up in front of an open goal by the unselfish Jack Grealish. Thirteen minutes later Grealish was the provider again for Haaland's second which he slotted in from close range. Leeds had looked like weathering an opening 45 minutes where they were… Read more

Marsch Has Questions To Answer

Tottenham Hotspur 4 Leeds United 3

If ever there was a game that Leeds didn't deserve to lose this certainly has to be it. Leeds led three times and then gifting Spurs two late goals to seal an unlikely win. Added to that Spurs first goal should have been disallowed for a blatant foul on Meslier. Then Jesse Marsch took off midfielder Marc Roco who was dominating midfield , left on Tyler Adams who was on a yellow and put on Luke Ayling who's only back from injury and suddenly the pendulum swung Spurs way.

Leeds flew out of traps and on ten minutes Crysencio Summerville opened the scoring with his fourth consecutive Premiership goal. Against the run of play on twenty five minutes Harry Kane rifled in an equaliser from close range after wrong footing Kristensen. As already stated this goal despite going to VAR should have been disallowed… Read more
