The Nightmare Continues

Luton Town 5 Leeds United 1

What a miserable week for Leeds and their fans.Another drubbing and no light at the end of the road for their diehard fans.As early as the 11th minute Carlos Edwards charged down a Stephen Crainey clearance and with only Sullivan to beat, made no mistake from 10 yards. However on 17 minutes Hayden Fox,the Australian international who started his first full game for Leeds scored with a powerful header from a Ian Westlake free kick.

It was all square at half time but in the space two minutes everything changed for United. In the 54 minute Feeney broke down the right and crossed for Vines to bundle home with his chest.Disaster followed a minute later when Edwards crossed from the right wing once again and Vines played it into the path of David Bell who scored from 12 yards.

Leeds chased the game now and as a result… Read more

When will it end?

Leeds United 1 Leicester City 2

Another black day at Elland Road, something that's getting all too common for Leeds fans as the crowd of 16,477 will testify to in a ground that has a capacity of over 41,000.Fans are now letting Carver & Bates know that enough is enough and they are not going to pay top prices for the terrible fair on offer.Indeed when we travel over for the Colchester game in November our tickets will set us back £35 which is daylight robbery for the football on show. One would indeed be able to see Premiership football for theses prices at most of the Premiership club grounds.Yet Ken Bates upped the ticket prices last season and in doing so gave the "Harvey Smith" to the ordinary fan.

What can one say about the game? The back four were all at sea and no matter what way John Carver sees things re… Read more

What the hell is wrong?

Leeds United 0 Stoke 4

Is this a bad dream I hear you say or is it for real? Unfortunately it's no dream and Leeds plunged to their worst ever defeat to Stoke City at a less than half full Elland Road.Indeed if they continue to play like this Ken Bates will be begging fans to attend games. After 7 minutes Leeds found themselves a goal down when ex Villa midfielder Lee Hendrie scored from a 25 yard free kick conceded by Matthew Kilgallon.

It was all Stoke from here to the break with a Ian Westlake all Leeds had to offer.Neil Sullivan was back in goal and loan signing Alan Wright started at left back.Richard Cresswell also made a welcome return when replacing the injured Geoff Horsfield on 26 minutes. On 56 minutes Andy Griffin hit a powerful shot from the corner of the box that gave Sully absoloutely no chance.

United sink to 10 man WBA

West Bromich Albion 4 Leeds United 2

It was back to reality for John Carvers men today when Leeds were well beaten by a very determined WBA team. Having dominated the first half hour WBA were reduced to 10 men on 33 minutes when full back Paul McShane was shown a straight red card for a clumsey tackle on ex WBA player Geoff Horsfield.Up stepped David Healy, who was aiming to convert his fourth spot kick of the season but he dragged his shot wide of the upright.

Leeds were made to pay dearly for this miss when on 40 minutes full back Albrechtsen headed home a Jason Koumas corner to put The Baggies ahead. Things got worse for United after half time as Gary Kelly failed to resume through injury and then Kevin Nicholls was stretchered off after a tackle by Darren Carter. And to compound matters Leeds fell further behind… Read more

What a result !

Leeds United 3 Birmingham City 2

In what was their best performance of the season Leeds beat 2nd placed City to win their second home game of the season and their first under new caretaker manager John Carver. They wasted no time in taking the lead when David Healy latched on to an Eddie Lewis free kick in the 6th minute and lashed the ball home from 10 yards. Just before Leeds scored, Gary McSheffrey hit the post for Birmingham and they equalized on 12 minutes when a Martin Taylor shot came back off a post and hit keeper Tony Warner in the back for an og.

However Leeds quickly went back in front when David Healy scored his second from the spot when he converted a penalty after Geoff Horsfield had been felled in the area by Painter. Both sides had chances before half time with Matthew Kilgallon heading over from… Read more

Carver appointed Caretaker Boss

The Leeds Board have appointed John Carver as caretaker manager with immediate effect. John who was assistant manager to Kevin Blackwell joined Leeds from Newcastle United where he was reserve team coach and came to the club with a big reputation. Now he has the chance to prove himself and on Saturday he'll have a big test with a home game to Birmingham City, who are currently 2nd in the Championship.

Obviously the Directors are going to take their time over their next appointment and don't want to rush into any quick decisions. If Carver can get a few results and climb up the table the chances are he'll be kept as manager until the end of the season at least when his position will then be assessed. Maybe he's not the appointment fans wished for but he deserves a chance and the next few league games will decide his faith.

Blackwell is Sacked

Today Leeds released a statement terminating the contract of Kevin Blackwell and thanking him for his efforts over the past three and a half years, two and a half as manager. While it was expected many thought after the victory over Barnet in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night that he would at least survive until Saturday's home game to Birmingham City.

Leeds have lost their last three league games and are routed in 23rd spot in the table so the writing was on the wall for Kevin Blackwell. He took over the club when it was in dire straights and did a great job in getting to the play off final last season but a dismal performance against Watford did'nt help his chances. After a terrible start to the season it was obvious that Ken Bates would soon lose patience and so the he did today.

The question now is who will take… Read more

Leeds win at last

Carling Cup

Leeds United 3 Barnet 1

We have finally scored a goal at Elland Road.It took Robbie Blake 7 minutes to open his account and Ian Moore added two second half strikes to see Leeds comfortably into the next round. While one cannot get carried away with the result it should do a lot for the teams confidence as they look to take on Birmingham at home on Saturday.

When is it going to end?

Coventry 1 Leeds United 0

Things just get worse from Kevin Blackwell and his Leeds boys.Three defeats in a row and only one goal scored in the last four games and that was from the penalty spot.If I was Kevin Blackwell I'd be looking over my shoulder because Ken Bates will not put up with these type of results and performances much longer.

Leeds now are in 23rd spot in the table ,their worst position in the league in 40 years. It looks like the players have lost confidence in the manager and with the crowds staying away from Elland Road things are looking very bad indeed.A Stern John strike on 25 minutes gave Coventry the points although Dave Healy hit the crossbar on 18 minutes but that's as near as Leeds came to scoring.

You'd need the patience of Jobe to follow Leeds now and I don't think Ken Bates has that.… Read more

Nightmare at Elland Road

Leeds United 0 Sunderland 3

Am I dreaming or what? Keano comes to Elland Road and stuffs Leeds, some things never change. If things could'nt get worse Liam Millar who was on loan with us last season from Man United scored the first. This was a disasterous result and Leeds failed to score from play for the third game running.Let there be no mistake but Leeds are in dire straights.

Blackwell is running out of excuses and the sooner he's gone the better.Alan Curbishley is the man.He want's to get back into football and where better to kick start his career again but at Leeds.I'd hate to see Dennis Wise or Glen Hoddle at Elland Road as their pedigree in management is nil but as they are both ex Chelsea men they must be in with a shout considering Ken Bates knows them well.

Time will tell but the time for excuses is over and… Read more

Disaster at death once again

Leeds United 0 Wolves 1

When will Leeds ever learn that the game is 90 minutes plus stoppage time. For the third time this season they have conceded a late goal that has proved very costly.Against QPR,Crystal Palace and now Wolves goals have been conceded in the 90 minute.

It has to be said that Leeds were awful today and deserved what the got, nothing. That said it was a wonder strike on 92 minutes by Bothroyd from 25 yards that gave Mick McCarthy's men the points.Leeds seem to be clueless in front of goal and too often David Healy was on the wing crossing in balls to where he should have been.

The pressure is now on Blackwell but considering that he did'nt see fit to bring on Robbie Blake only time will tell how long more Ken Bates will put up with his excuses. The bookies could be right as they made Blackwell favourite… Read more

Transfer News

Now that the 31st August deadline has passes all the comings and goings have come to a end until 1st January next.Long time favourite Eirik Bakke has left Leeds for Norwegian side Brann Bergen with Ian Morris joining Scunthorpe. We had the opportunity to see Ian in action in Leeds friendly with Limerick at Rathbane in July and on the night he looked a lively player.

Joininig the club is Tony Warner the goalkeeper who was on loan until 31st August from Fulham but that has now been extended until 1st January. Also in is Irish International Jonathan Douglas who signed a 3 year deal having played with us last season while on loan from Blackburn Rovers.

With Shaun Derry (groin),Steve Stone (groin) and new signing Kevin Nicholls( knee), Richard Cresswell (hip) and Gylfi Einarsson (hip) all on the treatment table it was surprising that Kevin Blackwell did'nt bring in more attacking options.Only time… Read more

Victory at Last

Sheffiels Wednesday 0 Leeds United 1

Yesterday at Hillsborough Leeds got back to winning ways courtesy of a David Healy penalty. In a tough dour match Leeds just about deserved victory on chances created. As this live game also doubled as the clubs AGM a good turnout of supporters gathered in Moroney's for what also amounted to the unveiling of the new club flag which can be seen in the picture gallery.

Update on AGM and Club Trip

The AGM which took place yesterday agreed to nominate all the outgoing officers for another year and also decided to take in the Colchester game as our first trip of the season. Details relating to the trip are on the message board under the heading anything Leeds related.
The club is in a good financial state and has a very solid and loyal membership. Now all we need is promotion!

Disaster once again

Leeds United 0 Cardiff 1

For the second year running Cardiff have beaten Leeds at Elland Road with a goal on 83 minutes from ex Man City player Wilo Flood.Since being relegated, Leeds have failed to beat Cardiff home or away.Indeed when Cardiff beat Leeds last season it was their first victory at Elland Road since 1921.
Leeds failed to make a single goal scoring opportunity for the whole game and where caught on the break when Kilgallon lost possession in Cardiff's half and was made to pay for his error.
Four points from four games played makes grim reading and Blackwell has now been told that there is no more money available to buy players.Looks like being a rough season ahead for The Whites.
