The Rot Continues

Stoke 3 Leeds United 1

Well we did score at last but unfortunately we have now lost 10 of our last 11 away games.Once again Dennis Wise made changes with Ian Moore & David Healy replacing Tresor Kandol & Jermaine Beckford. As usual Leeds got off to a slow start and were on the backfoot from the kick off as Stoke tried to inflict another humiliateing defeat on their visitors. After all Stoke beat Leeds 4-0 at Elland Road in November and when Mamady Sidibe rose unchallenged to head in a corner after 12mins the writing was on the wall for Wises men.

True Ian Moore converted a header on 41 mins following a fine cross by David Healy. One would imagine that this would give Leeds the spur the needed for the second half but once again Stoke came out with all guns blazing. On 54 mins substitute Patrik Berber ex Liverpool… Read more

Elliott on the way

When the transfer window opens on 1st Jan, Robbie Elliott will be the first player in the door. The ex Sunderland & Newcastle defender who had a week's trial at Elland Road during the summer and failed to secure a contract will now get his wish to join Leeds. Worse still is to hear that Poyet & Wise have not ruled themselves out of making a comeback with Leeds. Now do the really want us to be the laughing stock of The Championship.

Some might say we alreay are but the idea of two 40 year olds togging for Leeds is beyond belief. If this is Wises idea of a joke ,no one is laughing.

No Christmas Cheer

Leeds United 0 Hull City 0

Yet another blank score sheet for Leeds against fellow strugglers Hull City who had ex United man Michael Bridges in their lineup. On a day when there were few pluses for Leeds, teenager Jonny Howson who is still a youth player was named man of the match. The game kicked off at 12 noon to avoid any crowd trouble but they need not have bothered as the fair on offer was well below what one expect from Championship sides.

Suffice to say the only thing of note was the booking of Leeds player Tresor Kandol who entered the referees notebook with 18 minutes remaining. Those in the attendance of 22,578 witnessed two teams who barring a miracle will ply their trade in the 1st Division next season such was the lack of creativity on the pitch.Oh for the days of Clarke,Giles,Lormier and Hunter once again.

Despair Continues

Sunderland 2 Leeds United 0

When will we score again I hear you say. Leeds have now gone four games in a row without scoring and if Dennis Wise continues to make changes for every game then we'll never see a settled side.In came Jermain Beckford for his first start of the season along with Hayden Fox at right back and out went teenager Jonny Howson and Robbie Blake who was injured. One would expect lots of passion with this fixture considering Roy Keane is in charge of Sunderland but barring a David Connolly shot which hit a Leeds post on 22 mins the first 45 mins were a tame affair.

All of the threat from Sunderland came from ex Irish International David Connolly who forced Warner into a fine save seven minutes before half time. However on 65 mins Connolly finally got his reward when escaping the clutches of Matt Heath… Read more

Tractor Boys Roll On

Ipswich Town 1 Leeds United 0

And so the rot continues for Leeds despite Wise welcoming back his captain Kevin Nicholls after a ten weeks absence and making three other changes from last weeks defeat to Derby. In came Ian Westlake, Ian Moore and Frazier Richardson and out went Stephen Crainey, Robbie Blake, David Healy and Ugo Ehiogu. However despite all the changes Leeds did'nt manage one shot on goal in the first 45 mins and fell behind on the stroke of half time to a snap shot from Gavin Williams who turned Hayden Fox rather easily.

Leeds started the second half in determined fashion but still did'nt trouble Price in the Ipswich goal. The nearest Leeds came to a goal was when Price punched a Nicholls free kick and Kandol returned a header which dropped well wide. Disaster then struck when Nicholls was sent off in the 84th minute after Leeds had… Read more

Greene Family Tour to Elland Road

Our colleague Kevin Greene his wife Mary and their son Cathal traveled over to Elland Road for the Southampton game on November the 18th last and here is Kevin's account of their trip.

It was a brilliant weekend with Cathal making his debut at Elland Road while Mary had a ball shopping in Leeds. We had a great time overall except for the result. We stayed in Bewley's and to our surprise Dennis Wise,Gus Poyet and their families were staying there also.Cathal was playing with Wises kids and I have to say that I changed my mind about Wise as he refused nobody and was very nice to everyone that approaced him for autographs or a picture.

I would recommend Bewleys 100% ,rooms brilliant and their food is very good and the platter has to be tried. As for the match itself,it was very disappointing and I as a life long Leeds supporter would be… Read more

Misery Continues

Leeds United 0 Derby County 1

Our member Jim Ryan who along with his friend Rob Vincent traveled over to Elland Road for the game only to endure more disappointment. In fact Jim summed up the game in a text to me as follows"Leeds started well but then gave away a poor goal following a left wing cross to the far post which was badly defended by Crainey.Derby should have had two more by halftime while Leeds improved somewhat in the second half but never looked like scoring.Outlook not great I'm afraid ,Johnny"

As Jim is a die hard Leeds fanlike us all I'm afraid I have to agree with his assessment that dark days are ahead.Wise is expecting recruits in the January window but once again these will all be loan signings. Now I see we could lose three points after one of our few victorys this season away to Burnley… Read more

Derby Draw

Leeds United 2 Barnsley 2

In what was a crunch match for Leeds where 3rd from bottom played 4th from bottom with the spoils being shared in an entertaining game. The Tykes struck after 3mins when Nardeiello was allowed oceans of space to hit a fine strike from just inside the penalty area. However Tresor Kandol who was in for suspended Hayden Fox headed home on 8 mins after the Barnsley defence failed to clear their lines. For 25 mins both sides kept up a frantic pace with opportunities on both sides.Eddie Lewis hit a post after a pull back by Robbie Blake but Barnsley went in front once again on 36 minutes.

It was that man again Nardiello who four weeks ago tormented us when he came on as a second half substitute who unlocked our defence once again. He cut in from the left and gave Stack no chance with an inch perfect finish… Read more

One off,three points lost

Burnley 2 Leeds United 1

Another bad night for Wise and his men when they were beaten at Turf Moor by high flying Burnley.Leeds made one change with loan signing Ego Ehiogu coming in at the back for Matthew Kilgallon who was out with an ankle injury. The game started at a hectic pace and Leeds nearly scored on 5 mins when Eddie Lewis combined with Ian Westlake who's cross was just too far in front of Ian Moore to convert.Burnley also had their chances in the first half with Jones going close with a snap shot from 25 yards.Just on the stroke of half time Phil Dowd booked Ian Westlake for an apparent dive which now puts him on 5 bookings and an automatic suspension.

The second half was only five minutes old when Hayden Fox was booked for a second time for deliberate handball and Leeds were now on the back… Read more

Eddie Puts On A Show

Plymouth 1 Leeds United 2

A goal after 3 minutes from Robbie Blake who converted a cross from Eddie Lewis gave Leeds the tonic start they badly needed. After the drubbing at Elland Road the previous week Leeds came out of the blocks like sprinters and had Plymouth on the back foot for the first twenty minutes.Indeed Ian Westlake who came in for David Healy clipped the bar on 12 minutes. However The Pilgrims got back on level terms on 40 mins when Djordic converted a Tony Capaldi free kick and two minutes later he nearly put Plymouth ahead when his shot from 20 yards was just over the bar.

Leeds continued the second half like the first and were back in front on 61 mins when Eddie Lewis was put through by a defence splitting pass from Shaun Derry and he cooly beat McCormick in the Plymouth goal.On loan signing from Barnet… Read more

Normal Service Resumed

Leeds United 0 Southampton 3

With Dennis Wise looking for his third home win since taking over as manager and after a good win the previous Saturday vs Colchester all hoped for the good results to continue. However it was back to reality for Leeds supporters when another dismal performance was the order of the day.David Healy returned to the starting line up in place of the injured Richard Creswell but even his presence was'nt enought to save The Whites.

Our own member Kevin Greene went over to Elland Road with his family for the game and I expect his son Cathal was disappointed with what he saw on view.He did however get to meet Dennis Wise in Bewleys on Friday night and again on Saturday morning for breakfast as the Leeds squad prepared for yesterdays fixture. The score line tells its own tale and at this stage one can only imagine where we'll… Read more

Club's 11th Trip an Outstanding Success

Leeds United 3 Colchester 0

On Friday 10th November the club embarked on it's 11th trip since our foundation heading to Elland Road for our clash vs Colchester United. The early birds headed for The Alymers Rest for breakfast before meeting at our pick up point of the West County Hotel @ 9.45am. The day was overcast and showery but that did'nt dampen the wit or spirits of our hardy crew. After checking in at Shannon we headed for the Duty Free bar (as usual) and got into the swing of things with a few pints and some crack with a group of 15 ladies from Cork who were on the same flight as us to Liverpool for a hen party. This was our first time in a while traveling to Liverpool's John Lennon Airport as previous to this we had gone via East Midlands. Unfortunately this time the return… Read more

Same Old Story

Barnsley 3 Leeds United 2

In Dennis Wise's first Yorkshire derby his side suffered their second consecutive defeat in five days and continue to leak goals at a depressing rate.As one would expect the opening 10 minutes were frantic and the best chance fell to Leeds when a cross from David Healy should have been converted by Robbie Blake at the back post.Leeds paid for this lapse when a minute later on loan keeper Graham Stack punched a ball he possibly should have caught and when his clearance fell to Martin Devaney he promptly despatched it an empty net.

Urged on by their traveling support Leeds got back on level terms when on 43 mins Shaun Derry headed home a Douglas cross.Within a minute Barnsley had the chance to go back in front but Marc Richards somehow managed to volley over from 2 yards. This proved very costly for Barnsley, when straight… Read more

First trip to Elland Road this season

On Friday next the club will set out from the West County Hotel at 9.30am heading for Shannon and a trip to watch Leeds play Colchester on Saturday.Twenty five members will depart Shannon @ 12.40pm and hope to be in Leeds at approx 15.30pm.(flying into Liverpool and bus down to Leeds). This may not have looked like an attractive fixture at the start of the season but as we are second from bottom and Colchester beat top of the table Cardiff yesterday it now has gained in importance. Also the fact that this will be Dennis Wise's 4th game in charge we will see first hand what the true Leeds fans think of his appointment.

On the Saturday night there is a Leeds United Supporters Dinner Dance in the Queens Hotel (where we stay)with Jack Charlton as guest of honour. Also they will be presenting the Player of The Year Award for last season… Read more

Back to earth with a bang for Wise

Preston North End 4 Leeds United 1

As the saying goes "one swallow does'nt make a summer" just as one win does'nt turn around a season as Dennis Wise found out this evening.Back at Deepdale since the play off semi final in May Leeds were destroyed by an inform David Nugent and company.Wise made one change from the team that beat Southend on Saturday with Ian Westlake replacing the suspended Jonathan Douglas in midfield.

It was all Preston early on and they duly took the lead on 19 minutes when Danny Dichio headed home a Nugent cross. With constant pressure Leeds fell further behind on 40 minutes when Nugent again crossed for ex Leeds player Danny Pugh to score from seven yards.Whatever Wise said at half time fell on deaf ears as on 47 minutes Nugent scored at the back post from a Simon Whaley cross.

This certainly was depressing stuff for the… Read more

Win at Last

Leeds United 2 Southend 0

The new Dennis Wise era got off to a winning start thanks to goals from Ian Moore and a wonderful free kick from substitute Robbie Blake.Having been knocked out of the Carling Cup on Tuesday night by the same opposition Wise made three changes bring in Graham Stack in goal,Eddie Lewis moved to left back and Ian Moore came on in midfield.

Leeds started brightly and attacked at every opportunity but they had to wait until the 40th minute to take the lead when Lewis played a 40 yard pass to Moore who chipped the ball over a desparing Flahaven in the Southend goal.Early in the second half Southend nearly scored when a deflected shot from Steve Hammell hit a post with Stack stranded.Just before this Stack had made a point blank saved at the expense of a corner but otherwise was not troubled all afternoon.

Bates gets his Wise man!

As expected Dennis Wise has been appointed manager of Leeds along with Gus Poyet as his assistant. After his second training session on Thursday he appointed Kevin Nicholls as the new captain replacing Paul Butler and Shaun Derry, last seasons Player of the Year was appointed vice captain. As Kevin is presently out injured with a knee injury that will keep him sidelined for some weeks yet Derry will lead out the team on Saturday for their second game in five days vs Southend.

It was Wises intention to appoint a younger man as his captain and he told the players at their training session that he was astounded at their 23rd place in the League considering the talent that was at Leeds. There are no quick fixes for Wise and as he says his main priority presently is to get Leeds back up the table to safety.Lets hope he instills some of his fighting… Read more

Wise the new manager?

With the departure of caretaker manager John Carver who was in charge for five games, four of which we lost it now looks likely that Dennis Wise present manager of Swindown Town will shortly be named as the new Leeds manager. The clubs have agreed a compensation package as Wise is tied to Swindon until July '09.His assistant manager at present, ex Chelsea team mate Gus Poyet will also be joining him at Elland Road if terms are agreed.

It has been said since Ken Bates came to the club that he wanted Dennis Wise as his manager and it looks like he will shortly get his wish.First team coach David Geddis will take charge of the team for their Carling Cup tie tonight and as they meet The Shrimpers again on Saturday once again at Elland Road in the league it's possible that Wise will be on the bench. We'll keep you… Read more
